Mia Mottley Prosecutes Government on CORRUPTION in Her Reply to 2015 Budget

Those  Democratic Labour Party (DLP) members in parliament advocated the need for Barbados to enact Integrity and Freedom of Information legislation prior to being elected in 2008. There was an expectation Barbadians would have seen movement on this issue within 100 days of the DLP government […] taking office. It is an indictment on civil society we have not been able to pressure government to treat this issue as a priority.  In fact, the DLP was re-elected in 2013 and transparency legislation did not feature as a key platform issue.

It is ironic Mia Mottley’s contribution in the 2015 Budget Debate  has positioned the issue of graft and corruption in government squarely in the public’s domain. If we are to evaluate the fervour which some members of parliament on Mottley’s side supported her on the issue there is a lot to be said about the political class closing ranks.

Here is the Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley’s reply to the 2015 Budget (first hour clipped).

  1. @WARU 4:22 a.m
There has been quite a lot said on BU about cryptocurrencies.
The warning to be cautious is sprinkled throughout BU posts.
Let’s hope Bajan’s exercise sense and caution in their business deals, and
    make good use of google.

A good tip is to google the name of the company and add the word scam in the google search.

  2. “Commissiong you are a real prick” couldn’t have put it better myself.

Another one is Comey of the utterly corrupt and discredited FBI. I love the oxymoron of an ‘investigation into a “fact”’!!!!

  3. WARU

What do you mean that there is no recourse for the people against the robbery of public funds?

If your child starts to engage in destructive behaviour, and you as the parent fail to address such behaviour who is at fault or who will held culpable?

So therefore, If we as the people have real evidence that those whom we elected to represent our interest are engaging in illegality, and we refuse to take an active stand against such moral turpitude, then our acquiescence booster this filthy lucre.

  4. What a laugh. ..Comissiong says he wrote a letter to the Haitian govt which gives insight to rules and regulations which governs Caricom Nationals
Wuh dam Commissiong and Mia were the ones that gave the Haitians a perception that all are welcomed
The Haitian govt ought to send a message to Commisiong telling him to a.ss their black a ss
Commisiong and his ideas about black unity formed out of Pan africanism that the countries borders are for whom ever will shall crossed are idealogies that are unrealistic in an era where crime and violence and high rate of poverty in small nations is epedemic and can increased when carte blanche approval immigration policies are let loose

  5. really Lexicon…have you ever READ ANYTHING ON BU….don’t answer that..

“A good tip is to google the name of the company and add the word scam in the google search.”

    lol

  6. I’ve stated above and I shall reiterate against: ” the FBI has launched a counterintelligence investigation against President Trump, based on the fact that during the campaign Mr Trump implored the Russians to hack into Hilary Clinton’s emails.”

Now as has been reported, a counterintelligence investigation is somewhat different than the ordinary investigations the FBI usually conduct… this investigation is to determine whether or not Mr. Trump in anyway, shape or form undermined American national security interest in his association with the Russians, and if in fact he fired FBI director Comey to concealed his illegal dealings with the Russians.

  7. Theo…the very first stupid move Mia made was endorsing the Bitt Inc scam…even more stupid than the original mistake of changing the constitution to enable Rawdone…so she can endorse the Bitt inc scam…she only opened doors for more scam artists to claim that the government endorsed their activities.

    Piece…where are ya mah man…what a thing..and it’s live and direct….lol

  8. @Mariposa,

What is this, a temporary civil servant writing to the Haitian government explaining CARICOM policy. If this is true it is madness. Protocol dictates that ministers communicate with ministers, governments with governments. Not a lowly jumped up ambassador writing to government. Where is the foreign minister? Where is the prime minister? Are they going to allow Commissiong to behave in this uncontrollable way?

@Colt45, I agree with you…what a corrupt FBI…a director holding secret files on a President, key public figures of the day and managing his agents so as to influence major investigations ànd despite all that perfidy having the main FBI building named after him. Disturbing.

But that was decades ago! Do you expect to convince thinking folks that a man who pushed backed strongly as deputy AG against a Republican action to subvert the law of the land and who as FBI director countermanned a Democratic AG who he also felt was acting to subvert the law then crowned those high moments by corrupting his office and discrediting the rule of law simply because YOU and a slew of Trump fanatics want to invert reality with such a narrative!

    No can do.

History will set the record straight but like you allude to above re same old, same old : a lifelong straight arrow personality doesn’t get bent and corrupted unless the circumstances are forged in death fire and conversely a crooked arrow personality doesn’t straighten his ways unless he too is facing a blazing inferno….no such fires here.

And what a thing…so YOU caused Stokes demise then from severe whiplash…well, well, well!

  10. @dpD – nope not I Sir. The Captain of the tugboat Ferguson had more to do with that, but the poor fellow had a stiff neck before it was stretched.
“No such fires here”?? You are too trusting by far. The political systems are as broken in the US, EUSSR and UK as in Bim. When you have the Left owning the media, what can you hope for other than popular uprisings as we are now seeing in the election of Trump and the rejection of the globalist Soros programme in Europe and Brexit in the UK, where the whole political scum class have pitted themselves against their people.
Comey honest? Pull the other one!!

  11. Hal yes..it all laid out in one of the local newspaper

  12. dpd,

Argument is futile. A whiteboard would be good here to show all the connections the Trump campaign had with Russia. There is too much to detail in prose. I just watch and wait. What is happening is so surreal that you almost can’t believe it! Who would think to do these things and why did they think they could get away with it? Maybe they thought they could brazen it out as they had obviously been getting away with criminal activity in plain sight for a very long time. Still the mind boggles

But let’s bring it back home now before somebody complains!

  13. de pedantic Dribbler Avatar
    de pedantic Dribbler

Bring it back home, you say @Donna…never left! Squeeze together these two remarks: The Captain of the tugboat Ferguson had more to do with that, but the poor fellow had a stiff neck before it was stretched AND Maybe they thought they could brazen it out as they had obviously been getting away with criminal activity in plain sight for a very long time. Still the mind boggles

We din never left the shores of BIM too far now did we!

As I said prior, let we stand dey if we realistically believe that any meaningful corruption will be forged in BIM…you said it: they had obviously been getting away…in plain sight for a very long time…Edutech, VECO, Brittons Hill cave in, tax refund requests …list is loong and stretches back 50+ years.

..I admittedly love to gawk at US and other international infelicities for a very simple reason: I can be as sanctimonious as I choose because I did NOT go to school wid any of those crooks, I never had long lived family connections wid NONE…and not a FELLA is a contemporary or to this day someone I can label as a friend.

Alas, it becomes terribly painful to opine and look inward on my own however…so I will still talk bout FBI and this poor, pathetic billionaire fella in WH…bear with me!

Thus @Colt45, if you consider Comey corrupt that’s your call. But also consider this…on an incremental scale of 1-10, if you place Comey at 4 then the POTUS comparable to HIM is -5 (off the scale). For ANY non fanatic partisan (Dem or Rep) POTUS is the polar opposite to Comey on any lifetime integrity metric… if Comey is an alleged liar because of being allegedly caught out in some instances of less than 100% accuracy then POTUS is a habitually, pathological liar because he has been proven (not allegedly) to deliberately speak falsehoods.

So try to impugn Comey as much as you want your man is still doubly ‘more worser’!

  14. Hal here is the statement issued to the Haitian govt by Commisiong

Comissiong has shared a document with this newspaper, which has been sent to the Haitian government, informing the people of that nation that they are not entitled to work in Barbados, and also outlining the terms on which they may visit the island.

The press advisory, dated August 15, written in French, Creole and English, explained that it is important that there be a general understanding, not only in Haiti but all across the Caribbean that while no CARICOM national needs a visa to travel to Barbados, that it is necessary when visiting Barbados that the traveller be in possession of sufficient financial resources to adequately maintain himself or herself without becoming a charge on public funds

  15. Commisiong an unrepentant Communist has been wishing and hoping for years to tamper with Barbados immugration policies his way of using these small island nations to endorse communist idealogies
The fact that he was so persuasive in helping to implement an immigration policy which has lead to an open door policy of all Haitians speaks volumes to his sinster character and his determination to uproot past govt immigration policies that are rooted and formulated towards homeland security
This man carries a heavy axe across his shoulders against USA policies those good or bad that he belives are intereference in small nations goverence and policies which he belives should be netured or thrown overboard

  16. Mariposa, you are on the money with the vile Commissiong creature, but I hope you don’t upset our esteemed blogmaster, since he gives that piece of shit a platform from time to time to insult our intelligence.

  17. Mariposa

Even though I don’t fully agree with Mr. Commisiong ideological stance! I can’t help but support his position on the Haitian immigration issue, because if we claim to be an African people with common history, then the onus probandi is upon us to assist our brothers and sisters if we are in better position to do so.

Now maybe I am too much of a utopian ideologue, but I do believe and still hold the position that the Caribbean should have developed into a menagerie of people, and cultures transversing the archipelago unrestricted …

  18. regarding immigration and the BLP- i remember in the late 70s when i was still in Bim Tom Adams saying he wants Barbados to look cosmopolitan so he started to make it easy for different nationalities to migrate to Bim.

the last BLP govt allowed in a whole set of Guyanese against immigration policies at the time with Arthur admitting that Guyanese illegally in Bim worked on his house.

Now this new BLP govt doing the same but with Haitians.

whilst i have no issues with people migrating to Bim, the CSME treaty or whatever immigration rules in places should be followed and no immigrant or citizen for that matter should be allowed to squat as a matter of course.

the other factor we are not looking at, is that the BLP whilst touting regional integration, is using immigration to suppress labour cost. they know immigrants will work for less than bajans and will use that to keep the cost of labour low and profits high. but elections have consequences

  19. The Idiot Brigade is busy.

  20. 45 govt

Not too worried about upsetting the blog master
However from my vantage point i am of the opinion that the blog master under the administration of David BU is no more since i sense a wholehearted attempt on BU to commit itself to the governing policies of this govt
A govt who is persuasive in its intent to cause pain and suffering on the people and a govt who does not seem to care less about the disadvantage situations which poor people from other nations when allowed to cross our borders will do to our fragile and weakened social enviroment
I am also of the opinion that BU might have been sold to a high ranking BLP official in order to control the flow of govt statements effectively and in a positive manner
Hence for the past six months only mild mannered articles about govt with no stinging or last longing effect are posted on BU
The masterstroke behind all this new BU might be Jong Long

  21. 🙂 Good morning 🙂
    Very good.
There is nothing I like more than a good laugh and that cracked me up.

  22. “Piece of shit”??????

  23. When reality and idealogies clash. Common sense dictates that Reality leads the way
It make no sense having an open border policy to welcomed a nation of poor people when you cant feed your own
Commisiong ideaolgies are clashing with the realities on the ground
Realities which are evident within a nation whose economic policies are hurting many barbadian households and slowly but driving many into poverty
Nothing wrong with being your brother keepers but with a direction that does not make your brother an economic and social burden on the state as in the case of the Hatains who for lack of funding is solely depending on charitable organisations and barbadians for support

  24. Have all or any one noticed the flow of articles posted on BU all mild mannered and some what tempered only enough to take a pot shot or two at govt.
    What about White Oaks
What about the continuing water situation that concern the people in water stricken areas
What about the Issue of the PSV
If memory serves (right )those articles seem to be of no inteterest to the new BU as had been over the past ten years when the intensity drive and zeal for all to know was at fever pitch
Yes i sense a New BU has being restructed and rebuilt nowt by what is being posted in its articles but by what is NOT BEING POSTED with an intent to hid govetnment flaws

  25. Have mercy..

  26. One thing is guaranteed…mutually assured DESTRUCTION.

  27. PAY ATTENTION….or not.

“She stated: “We are not sprinting for show, we are running because we understand that many of our decisions will cause and are causing some pain and suffering. And so, we …have to complete the job early so that the recovery can come early and we can get people back into jobs early.”

Noting that Barbados’ agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) enabled the Ministry to quickly secure supplementary agreements with other multilateral development banks, Minister Caddle pointed out: “With their help and changing confidence in the private sector, our reserves rose from $400 million in May to, as of this morning, $1,060 million. We saved the dollar.”

    https://barbadostoday.bb/2019/01/12/government-on-fast-track-to-economic-recovery/

  28. @ Hants

In May our foreign reserves were Bds$400m, by the end of December they were Bds$1000m ie an increase of over $85m a month. During that time all that BERT has done is borrow money and sack public sector staff.
Plse people, ask searching questions. How did the Mottley-led BLP government achieve this? Don’t accept this Jong-inspired PR.

  29. Yet Mia got the nerve to believe anyone will trust her or anyone in her cabinet, she thinks everyone is as brain dead as them..the stakes have been raised higher by all of them…..look at it and OWN IT.

    “Turney Ashton
    June 6, 2018
Ashton Gutterperk Politics want answers Mubarak Nakhuda Anthony Marshall.

Can anyone please tell me why George Payne chose not to speak in the Parliamentary debate on the matter of the ongoing Barrack Fiasco (the matter of the settling of the payment of the legal fees in the Barrack case). And how come Dale Marshall opted to stay far away from the circumstances surrounding the award of the same Barrack Contract?

It was a very significant debate that was worthy of a meaningful contribution from the opposition, after all, they were the ones who led the way with BDS$150,000,000.00 in wastage on this one erection at the hands of George Payne and Dale Marshall, at a time when he was Minister of Housing and Public Works.

Barrack was awarded a contract to build this building against the best advice of the team employed to advise them on who was most capable and best suited and able to perform this task, and yet still they selected Barrack with the knowledge that his company was not listed among those with the capacity or the ability to undertake this major construction project.

They were chastised by Edmund Hinkson who inferred in his speech that the BLP is to be blamed. Of note, Dale Marshall did not mention the hazy circumstances surrounding the award of the contract to Barrack. The question must also be asked to Dale Marshall and George Payne. By the way, can either of them tell us which law firm represented Barrack??”

  30. A very, very UGLY…conflict of interest.

Not to mention the very scam itself engineered by all involved.

  31. Hal everybody knows it is a scam and Fake news propagated and encouraged by the media
Notice tge New BU silence on this “breaking news” just awaiting for the rumbling of noise to calm down to be replaced with a song of Look how Govt fix the economy

  32. Mariposa,

Being our brother’s keeper does not necessarily mean that government ought and should be the solution to the Haitian predicament … how about calling upon those Bajan household with financial wherewithal to extend their humanitarian spirit to the suffering Haitians for a change?

  33. If the govt of barbados invited the Haitian people with open arms
It is the sole responsibilty of the govt of barbados to find a solution.
    Not the people of barbados
However it is up to any one individual or group if they want to contribute
Thinking or as you suggest that those with finances should be open with their generosity would be a noble gesture on those who want to contribute
However expecting generosity from those withbthe where withal to do so is more than a bit presumptuous on your part
People finances are theres to do as they please and not be told by any one in what form or manner they should disperse

  34. Yesterday police responded to a shooting incident around 2:50 p.m. at Fox Club Gap, The Garden, St James.

  36. So when is BU going to post articles on The Water shortage and govt negligence in providing adequate water supply for the water stricken areas
It is not good enough for BU to ran and hide behind soft ball articles as a pretense that BU is providing sufficient articles that criticize govt policies
How about the PSV strike and its impact on public transport bevause of govt harsh policing method of expecting a private company to adhere to govt rules
How about the ongoing compaints of retrenched workers who have been put on the breadline without have the necessary financial pay out which by law they are entitled

  38. Another wtf moment !

” The 84 year-old matriarch is convinced that several squatters, including non-nationals, who now occupy the 27 acres of prime beach front land, a portion of the wider 240 acres Six Men’s Plantation, were given permission to settle there by politicians. ”

    http://www.nationnews.com/nationnews/news/231889/battling-court-21

  39. Are there any squatters on land owned by WHITE bajans ?

  40. Are there any squatters on ANY land regardless of ethnic ownership who have been given permission to do so by WHITE politicians?
    Really Hants1, grow up.

  41. Black politicians and ministers are a THREAT to black people AND the island….they always have been, that is all they know..

  42. WARU

Once we address the moral landscape of the country, then the anticipatory change should flow freely, but skin colour has little bear on whether or not one does or does not do the right thing … And as Dr. King stated eloquently so long ago …it is the content of that individual that determines who he or she really is…

  43. Character sorry

  44. too early for shite…but..

will this ALSO APPLY to the thieves for lawyers, government ministers in and out of the Mia government…AND the business thieves ….that are EQUALLY blighting the environment and landscape with their thefts..

“The Mia Mottley Administration is seeking to strengthen the powers of the Auditor General by enabling that officer to report any suspicious transactions directly to the police, and for fines and/or imprisonment for those who ignore summons to attend their investigative hearings.”

  45. Talk is CHEAP..we want to see this actually happening and the known criminals arrested….YESTERDAY..

  46. WARU

A dysfunctional conscience is at play for those who seek to undermined the collective-will of the people, in an effort to enriched themselves.

  47. WARU

Then you have an immeasurable task before you … because for true change to realized … you have to rally the collective-conscience of the nation in an effort to effectuate change in the political sphere…

  48. WARU

Frederick Douglass did it; Marcus Garvey did it; Doctor Martin Luther King did it; Louis Farrakhan did it; Barack Obama did it; Elizabeth Cady Stanton did it … all of these individuals rally the collective-conscience of the nation and at a critical of the nation’s history…
