Grenville Phillips II, Leader of Solutions Barbados

A third newsprint paper has been launched in Barbados called The Solution.  It is designed to offer a fair analysis of Barbadian issues, and is currently available from most Rubis service stations and some independent newspaper sellers.  It is currently scheduled to be a twice-monthly publication.

A link to an interim on-line version follows.

  1. @Grenville

The suggestion was made to create a Facebook page to support the effort. That way you can promote the paper in a cost effective manner.

    Leave Grenville to himself.

He is a hardheaded rock who cannot be guided.

The Hardcopy WILL FAIL BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE SUSTAINED FOR THE DURATION.

Very few people read hardcopy and it will be used to clean the grease covered screens of vehicles

He is a slow learner and in retrospect it is a blessing that he is not Prime Minister.

For him and his type they need to have something in their hand to feel like if they are doing something

This is why Jong-like initiatives will beat him and the DLP every single time

Leave him to his spendthrift devices, “a fool and his money are soon parted”, he MAY LEARN, before it is too late, but i seriously doubt it.

    Steupseee

  3. I give it two issues. Buy it now, for it will become a collectors’ item in no time.

  4. @45govt

Do you have constructive feedback for Grenville? He is the only one in Barbados trying something to attack the establishment.

  5. Not the only one David Mr Blogmaster but certainly the most visible and vocal one!

It rakes all types @Pieces…Phillips is no fool, yes stubborn and in simple Bajan voice: ownwayish. However, those basic elements also drives personalities like yourself or the Blogmaster who are successful in their endeavours

…This one does hope Phillips masters this political and national PR learning curve sooner rather than later and his energy and solid commitment is more effectively deployed.

The alternative is for him to be chewed up and spat out from frustration …that’s not ideal.

  6. Too early it seems…corrections TAKES not rakes (maybe Freud is telling me something) and THUS not this!

  7. David
Stop coddling GP. He is wrong and strong, yet persists. He is talking about the same issues that failed miserably at the last elections, even though he was promoting them as solutions 3 years prior. The GP/Solutions’ brand is not attractive to the Barbadian electorate as currently constituted. And this is not a newspaper; this is the GP/Solutions party’s pamphlet, with a repetition of the same tired stories like the one “Fake News”. What “fair analysis” what. 🤣🤣🤣
Has Kaymar stopped his BT article?

  8. Tongue in cheek I note he is pushing for certain buildings to be rehabilitated to suit his professional pocket as his first order of business.Scare tactics?Self interest?

  9. What the hell is wrong with you knuckle heads and down right RH Bajans phuck ups. Stop getting at this gentleman, for Christ sake! Lend a hand, offer suggestions. We in Barbados are starved of anyone stepping out there and putting their shit on the line. Especially you RH black bajan men who only seem to want to spend your life sniffing some woman’s pooch looking for pokey. Do something constructive or shut to phuck up.

  10. David – “Do you have constructive feedback for Grenville? ” Sadly not, though I wish him all the luck in the world, BUT, I KNOW Bajans. He is on a hiding to nothing.

  11. May be you missed one bit of feedback, that we s, to let a Facebook page be his friend.

I hope it has comics and a section called “mekkin’ sport”. Political satire is wearisome !!

  13. Enuff & David BU

I agree with Enuff that this newspaper is nothing more than a newsletter or a news pamphlet……containing the same tired solutions that were overwhelmingly rejected by the electorate.

The issue of his alternative economic solutions immediately comes to mind.

Phillips II is insistent these policies were available over the past three years……to the public, BES, ICAB and other special interest groups for “rigorous scrutiny.”

However, over the duration of this period he can present only ONE “fellow” of ICAB as having said these policies are workable……..

…………but GP2 has either been UNABLE, UNWILLING or “blatantly” REFUSED to present the “fellow’s” analysis for rigorous scrutiny also.

And it is upon this basis GP2 wants to convince the electorate his policies are the best alternative? This is not only ridiculous, but ludicrous as well.

What GP2 should have done was to appoint a “shadow cabinet” to “shadow” each ministry….where each “shadow minister” would comment on issues, policies etc arising from their “ministry”……….

…………and where necessary….. present DETAILED alternative solutions.

  14. @Artax

Why are we beating Grenville only, what about his team? They are obviously agreeable to the approach?

  15. What Barbados needs is not another newspaper, but good journalism.

  16. David BU

Remember, members of Grenville’s team were not satisfied with his leadership style and resigned from the party as a result.

The remaining members may be a bit more timid and may not want to “upset the status quo.”

  17. This is the worst decision for any green horn to start up a print version of a newspaper in this era. First of all, you have to either do your own printing or source one of the established printers or newspapers to do your printing. Regardless what you plan…..that cost money. Are you going to use 11 x 17 folded to 8 1/2 x 11. What is your advertising cost? How many papers you are expecting to print? How many papers at $1.00 will you be able to sell? Have you make provisions for payment of even one staff? Have you considered the percentage you will have to pay to vendors? Have you realised that the two established newspapers are having serious dips in circulation and now getting in to online printing.
Advertising lineage gives you the ability to pay your creditor. What will be your cost for a whole page advertisement since no advertiser will purchase any ad in your newspaper/newsletter the same way as a magazine ad I agree with “45govt” that you will not get pass two editions before coming to an abrupt financial halt. Take David’s advice, go the online route. Your solution is the Solution for disaster.

  18. If you read the paper you would have seen it is being printed by COT Printery.

  19. @ Tell me Why August 10, 2018 9:58 AM

Maybe Solution Barbados has a wealthy sponsor? As they say when u see a man fishing in a dry pond …..

GP2 may know more about what he is trying to accomplish than u think. Let GP2 alone let the man do his thing.

  20. If you go the Face Book route you are somewhat tried to a platform that you have absolutely no control over. Tomorrow if the powers that be(local or otherwise) either well intentioned or other wise see it fit to “censor or disrupt BU” what can David do but bow his head and admit defeat. BU has no real control of the distribution of its media/content/opinions.

Let GP2 alone if its money he has to waste it will help someone in the economy. Mind up SB is a political organisation its not about selling newspapers its about winning elections and forming a new administration to govern bdos.

    Totally agree.
Barbados can barely support two printed dailies. I buy both because one has excellent columnists ,editorial pages and international news; the other is more up to date with local news, even though a bit sensational.

  22. @Bernards

Is this a case of Grenville and Solutions Barbados working to control their message and build a brand rather than being about the quality of journalism?

You may, like others beleive that people are getting down on Grenville II but this is not the case.

In fact I would like the Honourable Blogmaster to resurrect some of the various items of advice that we gave Grenville II.

I even recall that mention was made of a strategy that said that his organization DOES NOT HAVE THE CURRENCY nor the RESOURCES to maintain a blog AS WAS EVIDENCED with his recent foray and that he whould spend time using facebook to cultivate a following AND THEN MIGRATE TO A BLOG.

The poppet has gone one step further now and launched a newspaper which, IN THIS DIGITAL MILLIEU is an expense that he can ill afford.

But that is the nature of the man, headstrong & advised by people who know nothing of digital marketing and the virtual warfare of Politicking

Today the Democratic Labour Party launched its party’s new newspaper. The Dems called it a masterstroke. The Barbados Labour Party said it was a waste of time and paper……
Tomorrow the Barbados Labour Party will launch its party’s new newspaper. The Bees are calling it a masterstroke. The Democratic Labour Party is already calling it a waste of time and paper………….
Yesterday the Solutions Barbados actually launched the party’s new newspaper called Solutions; it will be published bi-weekly and already is available at some gas stations at the cost of $1.00 The Bees and Dems are calling it a waste of time and paper.

Press on Grenville, never mind the useless firecrackers and little starlights. Good luck with your efforts.

For want of another spot to make this comment, here it is…nothing to do with Phillips directly.

For the Blogmaster and astute thinkers like @BernardC I wonder what are the reactions to the news out of Turkey with a run on their currency as citizens lose confidence in the economic actions…and then more so the absolutely economic warfare further attack on the Turkish economy by the POTUS with additional tariffs on one of Turkey’s key exports.

This is a serious matter on the country to country level and definitely far more serious that the Canada vrs Saudi Arabia fracas.

It’s surely an indicator of the economic power that can be waged from Washington or indeed Riyadh …the latter will be a hiccup for Canada but the other could have major repercussions for the Kurds, NATO-Turkey-Russia relations, Europe and by dangerous extension, mid term the world.

Oneupmanship and impulsive behavior is a dangerous thing at the geopolitical level. Very dangerous!

  28. There is something about being considered an ally of the USA or a friend the irks DJT. Perhaps he doesn’t like being friendly or having those type of friends? Turkey beware your goose may be entering the hot water?

  29. @Dee Word

It shows how vulnerable/fragile world economies are to the actions of the superpowers. SIDS moreso to use words familiar to Bernard C, exogenous shocks. The fact our dollar is pegged to the greenback you ask? Heavenly Father hear our prayers.

  30. I warn you when you first came out, remember your words to Me and now look at you trying to get on the same page,If you had listened then maybe Mia in would not be in office today! Again you are late AGAIN,, you need more pain to get up to speed we all shall be watching your words

  31. Hi David:

I took your suggestion and carefully grew a Facebook following from under 100 to currently 951 carefully screened persons, most of whom are living in Barbados. The screening was to restrict ‘Bots’.

If those posting here would read the Fake News article, then they would understand why having our own print version (which can be run profitably) is necessary. The ads more than pay for the printing costs, and limiting our distribution to service stations is very efficient for us.

As previously noted, the media gravely underestimated our resolve. Now the classified pie will be cut even smaller. That is good for us since we started out with no slices. However, it is bad for them because they chose the path of the yardfowl.

  32. Hal Austin would no doubt harp back upon those golden days when Barbados had an array of ‘journalists’ at the Observer, the Beacon, the Torch, the Advocate, the Daily News,Truth and the Democrat. The golden days of information when schoolboys as part of their curriculum read and discussed in class the editorial content of some of these newspapers, the best of which in my opinion, was Jimmy Cozier’s.

  33. Thanks Grenville, no one here can accuse of not being able to read the numbers. Now is the time to push hard, there is a vacuum and the blogmaster has some doubt whether the DLP will be able to make credible noise any time soon. Formulate policies that will resonate easily with a couple of segments in the demographic to make your base then build and build. Others on the team need to step up.

    #goodluck

  34. @Whitehill

Where is your advice and suggestion for Mr. Phillips II? Instead all you do is cuss and carry on. steuipse….

  35. @bajans, do you think for one minute you are the first person to go on about my cussing? Hell No! Look here bajan pooch sniffer, I’ve seen your lot, bunch of laid back RH just waiting for another black bajan to step up then you lot go after him. How about this for cussing, until you lot stop the shit, then you, writing under the name ”bajans” and others can go kiss my ass.

  36. Gabriel,

Yes. You are right. In 1957 Barbados had seven newspapers (good ones mainly), including an evening paper. Whatever happened?

  37. @Grenville

you said and I quote “…looks like it has not been updated since the general election in May…”

The problem that IT specialists have is that it is very hard to tell you guys stupidness and you swallow it lock stock and barrel.

Time stamps and other inviolable information is relied on voraciously so when enthusiastic people come and tell you that you are not giving any advice and suggestions you can turn to a document and say without anyone being able to deny it, the proposer is telling lies

And this is precisely what Grenville is doing now when he is talking about a vetted group of x persons on his facebook page

He wants to control (i) who joins his pages ii) what he permits to be posted etc AND THAT IS INCONSISTENT WITH HOW ANY THIRD PARTY IS GOING TO BE EXAMINED.

But he is a hardharded person and like i said and will continue to say, HE NEEDS TO BE LEFT ALONE to fall on his own sword.

If we are in August and his site has not been commented on since May well that is reason enough to start a newspaper.

It makes sound sense to me what about you?

  40. Grenville, the Advocate, Nation and electronic media have stayed away from the substance of the Cable & Wireless matter – perhaps The Solution could fully look into Cable & Wireless’ actions to take full control of the Barbados operation.

  41. Please note that many Facebook accounts appear to be fake. Identifying the fake ones is very easy. We are not vetting persons to see whether they agree with us. Instead, the accounts are vetted to see if they are real person accounts. How can Piece have misread that?

We have not been maintaining the site properly. That is a fair and accurate observation. We will assign someone to that task.

  42. Apparently everybody has a blind spot depending on the matter at hand. In Barbados, the solution depends on the situation. All in all it’s just another …
