Submitted by DAVID A. COMISSIONG, Citizen of Barbados

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 13)

WHETHER  THE  ADVICE to “take the money” comes from the Democratic Labour Party’s Freundel Stuart or from the Barbados Labour Party’s Arthur Holder it is WRONG — ethically, morally, politically and legally WRONG !

It would seem that the BLP’s Arthur Holder just couldn’t help himself. In spite of the national tongue lashing that Prime Minister Stuart received when he urged Barbadians to “take the money” offered by would-be vote buyers, Arthur Holder – the BLP candidate for St Michael Central — similarly discredited himself by following in Stuart’s footsteps and advising residents of the working class district of Bush Hall to accept any money offered to them by persons attempting to buy votes during the upcoming Election.

I would like to appeal to all Barbadians who possess a sense of patriotic concern for their country to adopt an attitude of zero tolerance to any notion that our people should in any way accommodate vote buying and selling, and to vehemently denounce any person who advances such a notion.

In light of Arthur Holder’s recent foray into political and ethical backwardness, I can only repeat the advice that I tried to give to my fellow citizens a few weeks ago when no less a personage than the Prime Minister of Barbados urged the entire country to “take the money”.

I said then and I say again — “don’t take the money” — because if you take the money you will be devaluing yourself as a human being !

Please recall that back in the 19th and 18th centuries rich white people were actually buying and selling our ancestors as if they were mere animals or things. Why then would we want to allow anyone to convince us to reduce ourselves to so low a moral level that — once again — people with money are made to feel that we are for sale?

I also said then and I say again –“don’t take the money” — because it is against the Law !

Surely, just like Freundel Stuart, Arthur Holder  must know that the citizens of Barbados CANNOT “take the money” without breaking the Law of the land as set out in Section 6 of the Elections Offences And Controversies Act as follows :-

(1) A person is guilty of a corrupt practice who is guilty of bribery.

  (2) A person is guilty of bribery who, directly or indirectly, by himself or by any other person on his behalf

       (a) gives any money…..to any elector or to …any other person on behalf of any elector…in order to induce any elector to                vote or refrain from voting ;

   (5) Any elector is guilty of bribery who, before or during an election, directly or indirectly by himself or by any other person on       his behalf, receives, agrees to receive, or contracts for any money, gift, loan, or valuable consideration…for voting or agreeing     to vote or for refraining or agreeing to refrain from voting.

So, according to the Election Offences And Controversies Act both the buyer of the vote and the seller of the vote are guilty of having committed an illegal “corrupt practice”, and are liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period of six months.

And finally, as I said a month ago, I now  maintain :–“Don’t take the money” — because if you do take the money you will be helping to destroy your own country!

The insidious and growing practice of “vote buying” has already resulted in thousands of young (and not so young) Barbadians forming the impression that many, if not most, politicians –including some men and women who get elected to Parliament and some of those who hold ministerial office — are no more than tawdry hustlers and con-men.

In other words, the people of our country are already rapidly losing respect for the men and women who are supposed to be their national leaders. And when a critical mass of a population lose respect for the men, women, and institutions that are supposed to provide national leadership, the nation is lost !

Furthermore, the vile practice of “vote buying” is gradually and sedulously stripping many of our youth of their idealism and moral values, and is also threatening to subvert the integrity of our electoral system, and by extension, our entire system of governance.

My fellow Barbadians, do not permit ANYONE to persuade you to become an accomplice in the destruction of your own native land. Always, set out to  do the right and moral thing!

So was Barrow and Tom wrong also? Stuart will celebrate victory on his birthday on Friday 27th. He will be 67. Cadres is off when I compared sample size using Chi Sq. Relax and enjoy the sand, sea and sun. Barbados is not on the list to study Quantum mechanics. It is an island in the sun – Period.

  3. Instead of condemning vote buying, your Master Fruendel Stuart said that you should take the money. Your people will take it. Instead of leading the people, your Master Fruendel Stuart has not called the election. Your people will blindly accept all that is handed to them. Your Master Freundel Stuart pardoned his servant Michael Carrington the sinner. Your people are being led astray. God has warned your people and there is no coming back for little Barbados.

  4. Anyone who would advise you to “take the money” in exchange for your vote would be inclined (in my opinion) to “take the money” when awarding government contracts if in a position to do so, either in the past or the future. Just sayin’.

  5. They are all corrupt crooks, the electorate should ignore them all and vote with instinct, they will indeed take your money and give the rest away to others as they have been doing for over 50 years, they are all dishonest.

  6. While we agree that vote buying/selling in and of itself should not be such an integral part of the system, to lay responsibility for the current state of affairs at the doorstep of ordinary Bajans almost in a hopeless attempt to have those who have no power whatsoever to save a decaying system is no less than a veiled attempt to keep the status quo in place.

When Comissiong made his first appeal we disagreed with him then and we, here and now, disagree again.

””””””’I said then and I say again — “don’t take the money” — because if you take the money you will be devaluing yourself as a human being!””””

The above is a nonsense! People take and give money everyday in all kinds of nefarious circumstances. Why are people who are perceived to have a ‘good’ for just once in 5 years not to seek the best market conditions for that perceived good.

The real case Comissiong should be making is that conditions should be created were a vote can be used on a daily basis. In those circumstances the market for vote buying disappears immediately and real power is maintained in the hands of those he now seeks to hoodwinks with his trite appeals.

””””I also said then and I say again –“don’t take the money” — because it is against the Law !””””

A lot of things are against your laws. It is certainly against the law for lawyers to thief clients funds. That being so it does not stop many of your colleagues from routinely stealing people’s monies. Where has been your denunciation of them?

Though we must confess that that particular activity could never be associated with you, Comissiong.

”””So, according to the Election Offences And Controversies Act both the buyer of the vote and the seller of the vote are guilty of having committed an illegal “corrupt practice”, and are liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period of six months.””’

We have been reliably informed by somebody here on BU, we sorry for failing to recall who it was, that the million dollars Sagicor routinely gives, or has given, to each major political party is not covered by your laws. For us, that is a problem. Why are your hifalutin laws only to control the behavious of the masses. Any such laws are rightly ignored.

In any case we have never seen, with all the vote buying that is said to go on, anybody brought before the courts and successfully prosecuted. Not one case!

Is the legal system, which you are a leading member of, not in cahoots with the political elites to not enforce certain laws?

”’And finally, as I said a month ago, I now maintain :–“Don’t take the money” — because if you do take the money you will be helping to destroy your own country!”’

We live in a country which has been located into a developmental cul-de-sac by its history and 50 years governance by a misleadership class, the political-managerial class, of which you were or are a part thereof, and instead of dealing with the central forces which have delivered us here you seek to blame the victims for the present and coming malaise.

””’In other words, the people of our country are already rapidly losing respect for the men and women who are supposed to be their national leaders. And when a critical mass of a population lose respect for the men, women, and institutions that are supposed to provide national leadership, the nation is lost !”””

Seems to us that you trust the ‘leaders’ more than you trust the people. A critical mass of the population has long lost ‘respect for the men, women. and institutions that are supposed to provide national leadership’. This writer certainly has no respect for them. 50% of Bajans refuse to vote. Barbados has already been lost, for your information. And will be more lost, just now.

”””””Furthermore, the vile practice of “vote buying” is gradually and sedulously stripping many of our youth of their idealism and moral values, and is also threatening to subvert the integrity of our electoral system, and by extension, our entire system of governance.”””””

In an attempt to support those who may not have as much political largesse as the others, you have given ‘vote buying’ far too much causative value. If in a political duopoly, where there are no differences between the parties, that acts of vote sale/buying occurring once every five years could cause all of the social disorder we see today, only a sermon like yours, rooted in falsehoods and irrationalities could appear to possess a modicum of logic.

””’My fellow Barbadians, do not permit ANYONE to persuade you to become an accomplice in the destruction of your own native land. Always, set out to do the right and moral thing!”””’

Bajan have long been accomplices in the destruction of which you speak. For Bajans have never been more than mere window-dressing for the objectives of elite interests. Those are the interests which you here are really protecting. If not you would have gone to the centre for causation, not on the periphery, like you have been.

You have hit the nail on the head there is widespread epidemic corruption in Barbados.

Led by Politicians mostly Lawyers, Barbados Police officers, Customs and Immigration officers who fleece the Public.

Whilst I am not condoning Vote Buying it is one of the MANY spokes in the wheel of corruption.

Commissong also needs to speak out against these other corrupt acts which gain the benefactors millions individually which is why you see the constant faces as Politicians only out for own self interests and back pockets.

The idiots who take the small sums and gifts are merely pawns on the chessboard of wealth accumalation of the Political benefactors.

  10. Barbados is a failed state. Soon most African countries will overtake Bim, leaving Bim behind next to Haiti.

52 years of independence and education did not work out for Barbadians. Nothing changed since the old days of the plantation.

  18. BARBADOS (Naked Departure) — BARBADOS DEFENCE FORCE TROUBLE — Naked, I write to you the Barbados public in disgust and vexation. I am a senior officer in the BDF, a force that I work in and love with all my life. We have a very big problem in the BDF for a number of years, it’s at the top. You see when we have politics and politicians trying to control the force they sometimes get it very wrong, like in that this case that I will put to you and the public.

Over a year ago we had a great chief retired with an upcoming senior major tip to take over, well that did not happen. Like me and lots of other members of the force, we agree that he would have and still is the best man for one of those positions. Because he does not socialize and mix up in the LODGE like the rest, that was an issue for them. This man has the army at heart and this we know.

We have a government who are just putting people that they think for the government in positions and oh how so wrong they are. As everybody knows we got a new chief and a deputy chief which the government put there. These two think that they were or are the best for the system. The new chief should not have been in the position based on something he did before, but he there and you would think he would seize the opportunity to do right. We have Aquinas Clarke who should not have been in this position at all. After all if you can take the BDF vehicles and tents to the drug lord in St Philip and set up for a party, why should people be surprised that the big investigation going on with him is hush hush from the public?

You have a retired Deputy Chief Cdr David Dowridge heading the investigation team with a policeman and Reverend on it as well. In case people forget the investigation is into the junior rank he threaten, after all he was sleeping with the boy woman too and she works in insurance and for him as well. Mind you Cdr Dowridge is in the LODGE so this will go one way for the Deputy; assistance to be cleared. Then they got Col A Branch another retired Deputy Chief on the other investigation going on at the same time where Clarke used the Military Intelligence Unit (who he got half in his pocket to assist with his drug deals) and the same woman to try to set up the junior rank so he won’t look credible and Clarke be cleared, oh and she in LODGE too so you can imagine how that will go as well. Plus Clarke is like a son to her.

Clarke sleeping with his two clerks in there and got one pregnant all now, his wife even if she knows don’t care once the drug money comes in. I wonder who they will have to lead the investigation into the vehicles that Clarke went and purchase and cut a deal for worth $2.2 million and get signed off on but poor Col G Granuun say he didn’t know. How you is the Chief and don’t know what going on in your own house? Got the PS of Defence and Security and all the ministry running for cover cause it never went before cabinet. SG chambers had sense and didn’t signed no contract after deal was done made. The drawback was good for he. Poor Mr Simpson (Simpson Motors) didn’t even know about the vehicles lol Mercedes to the end.

I love my Army but we need the right people at the top to fix it before it crumbles. After all you know what it’s like to $120, 000.0 for a clearance pass for the Coast Guard to look away, well ask Clarke. It so funny that the unit based at District A police station that is the eyes of the nations coast and deals with security is still be head by a retired Deputy of the Force Cdr Dowridge. Anonymous

BARBADOS (Naked Departure) — DRUG MAN’S FETE THAT POLICE ATTENDED GOT RAIDED BY POLICE — Naked, remember in the local newspaper they said 14 policemen were being investigated? Well, let me give you the DRUG scoop!

These royal police ain’t loyal! They all went to drug man, Shaquille Barnett’s, fete held at Saltram Lodge Guest House and Bar in Easy Hall, St. Joseph. Naked, bare illegal drugs, drinks and WEAPONS were flowing and these policemen, who would lockup a man for a spliff, stealing a salt bread, or picking up empty bottles to sell, were there partying and partaking! Not one of them sounded the alarm for the use of ‘illegal’ drugs in their presence!

Naked, here are the names of the policemen:

    1600 – Bushell
    1601 – Wellington-Small
    1696 – Blades
    1697 – Murray
    2156 – Yearwood
    2178 – Scantlebury
    2168 – Padmore
    2065 – Ifill
    2097 – Blackett
    2130 – Corbin
    2120 – Mapp
    2182 – Scantlebury
    2108 – Shaquille Barnett

These two were supposed to be providing security, but still allowed the warrant to be served — some security they are:

    1441 – Rock
    2016 – Lewis

So Barbadians, the next time any of these officers talk shit to you about your drugs, tell them carr them rh!!!

  21. Well the BLP strategy team for General Elections 2018 have clearly shown to all Barbadians where their ” HEAD ” is at !

    Here we have it :

    • Mia ” MANJACK ” Mottley – Opposition Leader!

    • Jerome ” DICK HEAD ” Walcott – BLP Campaign manager !

    • Peter ” LOVE ❤️ a POLE ” Wickham – BLP Political Advisor !

So same – sex marriages will be ON the statute books

And buggery will be OFF the statute books

Should the above TRIUMVIATE prevail with their ” backdoor ” proposals !!!

    Barbados deserves better !!

    Dems now …..Dems again !!!!

  22. Just imagine that scoundrel Mia Mottley chiding PM Stuart for calling general elections on May 24, 2018 !

Mia says that date is smack into the CXC / CAPE examination period .

    Compare the facts:

    • May 28 , 1986 General Elections called by the Bees !!

    • May 21, 2003 General Elections called by the Bees !

For the latter date Mia was Deputy prime minister !!

This MAM is just a corrupt scoundrel !!!!

  23. The COP declares that the police force has received training to detect vote buying on May 24, 2018. The implication is that they were not equipped for the previous elections?
