The BAPE reacts to leader of the Opposition suggestion to use membrane bioreactor technology to tackle the South Coast Sewage problem –“… these complex infrastructural decisions must not be taken in the heat of political rhetoric, but after careful, deliberate, methodological and professional consideration that is led by our best experts …”

The Barbados Association of Professional Engineers (BAPE) has responded to the BU blogmaster questioning if that association should be the one to inform on the recent suggestion by the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to use membrane bioreactor technology to solve the South Coast sewage problem.

BU Blogmaster

Sir, you asked for BAPE’S comment on the matter raised about membrane bio reactor (MBR) technology as an option for use on the South Coast.

The Barbados Association of Professional Engineers is not a functional engineering consultancy. It is the national body that represents the interest of such consultant groups; of individual engineers; and of the engineering profession itself. It is therefore not within BAPE’S remit to engage in the technical specifics of any particular engineering solution – such as the use of membrane bio reactor technology or even options such as secondary or tertiary level sewerage treatment. There are multiple viable and valid options that are available for such solutions.

Our concern is that, in the national interest, these complex infrastructural decisions must not be taken in the heat of political rhetoric, but after careful, deliberate, methodological and professional consideration that is led by our best experts – who truly understand the ramifications of the decisions made.

The original final design choice was a poor compromise that was taken largely on short term political and economic considerations. The lack of an emergency back-up outfall, and the pairing of different pipe systems in a common duct clearly point to this fact.

Now that the inevitable crisis has come, millions of dollars are being assigned to deep injection wells, bypass systems and other expensive fixes, while the environment and economy suffers the bad decisions taken by non experts over 20 years ago.

Recent suggestions, that whole new philosophical approaches such as MBR technology should now be introduced is exactly the kind of thinking that gave us the flawed level one plant in the first place. Clearly these political decisions are well intentioned and genuinely conceived, however we continue to reiterate that the technological world of the 21st century is far too complex and sophisticated for such decisions to be made without full involvement of the experts and even the public, in the various pros and cons, and the justifications for the final choices made.

Unless we establish a new regime for decision-making with respect to national infrastructural projects such as the SCSP, our road and transport network, the water works system and other critical assets, we will only encounter even worse failures. It simply is not possible to successfully conceptualise and manage such complex, large-scale, projects in the absence of professional, dedicated, and transparent management – empowered with full control of the resources needed to follow prescribed construction standards and maintenance schedules.

William….to be honest…none of that history of political pimping or pandering in the last 50 years is interesting, or stimulating or educational…it’s useless.

Bajans been clinging on to the sentimental Barrow/Adams crap for over 50 years and it has gotten them nowhere…and will never get them anywhere. ..

.. if they were smart they would start viewing politicians as sensible people are now viewing them worldwide…..as maggots and parasites living off the existence of populations…because that is all they are…corrupt parasites, none is different to the other.

I personally cannot stand any of them.

“In 2018, the $60 million site COULD be used for a $500 million hotel / villa project.”

And what would become of your Hyatt erection? You mean you would let it turn out to be just another flaccid scam leaving taxpayers’ to pick up the pieces again and as usual?

So how can little Barbados have two gigantic competing hotels within less than a 5 minutes drive? Which one would be ‘better ‘able’ attract the discerningly ‘limited’ hoity-toity of white skin visitors looking for an up-market welcome break of pure heavenly peace and excitement in the tanning sun?

Now Hants, where would you invest your Can $200 million to make a killing from the hotel industry in shit-smelling Barbados?

Would you be placing your money in Maloney’s high-rise casino on Bay Street only to fall flat on your broken face or would you be keen playing Bajan roulette in the Jada private members club only for jaded investors?

As part of the BLP campaign to try to extract political benefit from the problems with the south coast sewage treatment, they arranged a group of visitors who would be rightly concerned like all Barbadians about getting the situation resolved and then in typical NATION BLP NEWSPAPER form turned it into a pure partisan one sided journalistic hit job on the PM.

What do you expect from a newspaper that has been used for the last 10 years as a mouthpiece for the BLP?
Answer this question when last have you seen anybody in the Nation newspaper write anything critical of Mia Mottley.
ANSWER : THEY CANNOT . That is the unwritten policy which is enforced by the editorial staff. Its a political paper they are running.

Contrast the treatment of this opposition leader in the press to David Thompson pre 2008 by the Nation newspaper.
I can name two writers in the Nation pre 2008 who were putting licks in Thompson every week with differing intensity : Albert Brandford every Sunday and Ezra Alleyne every Friday.

Fast Forward NOW : You cannot find one writer in the Nation BLP newspaper who can even dare to criticize Mottley openly. That is not coincidence, the Nation newspaper is part of the BLP campaign. The Nation newspaper should be ashamed to try to speak about cosy relationships between politicians and business people and yet cannot say a word about the FACT that the Nation newspaper is the journalistic prostitute of the BLP with weekly pimps like Fances Chandler, Harry Russell , Pat Hoyas , Clude Mascoll of of course Petra Wickham being paid by the Nation newspaper to beg Bajans to vote for the BLP. If that isn’t corruption in a media house.what is?

Let me compliment the Barbados Advocate for trying to be balanced. In today’s Advocate The Advocate has devoted two full pages(Pages 6 and 7) to reporting on a recently held BLP meeting on Sunday night. This is noteworthy because when I scanned both papers on a daily basis, I have not seen any BLP ads placed in the Advocate promoting their meetings and yet the Advocate still ensured that its readers were informed, not by a columnist lambasting or criticizing the BLP speakers but just by reporting the facts.
You will never see this balance in the Nation BLP newspaper because the Nation newspaper is more interested in taking sides and pushing their political pupetteer than giving readers the facts.
Despots usually like to control the press. The Nation is under BLP control and by extension Starcom, whichever party controls the government will control CBC.
Could we be looking at a government in a few weeks that controls all the major and heavily circulated news outlets? We already know that the National loudmouth David Commisiong has been compromised by Mottley and is singing for his supper.
A perfect storm for BLP animal farm to play out.

Why should Sir Anthony put more eggs in the DLP electoral basket which is now full of addled ones?

He has already recovered his investments made in 2008 and 2013 and is about to dump you guys the same way Mother Nature would soon be sending him to visit permanently his friend in the St. John Parish Church yard.

You have served your purpose to Sir A B, now be gone, both of you!

BTW, NationBLPnewspaper, have you checked to see if Mia produced her LEC to the Registrar before being issued with a licence to practise law for the period 1st February 2018 to 31st January 2019?
Or is it a simply convenient case of why waste money when she soon will be unable to do such in the capacity of Primus Inter Pares, LEC or no LEC?

Whenever facts and countless examples are brought to this blog to show how the Nation newspaper is shamelessly and blatantly campaigning and being used as the Public Relations arm of the BLP with an editorial policy of “NO CRITICISM OF MIA MOTTLEY”, the partisans on the blog resort to two basic statements:

Number one – Look at CBC and the Advocate

    Number 2- Attack the messenger

They cannot refute my claims because the facts confirm my assertions. The Nation newspaper is paying columnists to campaign for the BLP and it is no coincidence that not one of those columnists can criticize Mottley. That is the BLP strategy being played out in Fontabelle. The truth is the truth.

In today’s Nation BLP newspaper, the Nation BLP newspaper has a section entitled Dos and Donts for the election season.

I nearly fell out of my sofa when I read them:
    – Don’t stage political events to attract media attention.
(Now does anyone remember when the BLP propaganda machine would go around canvassing under the pretence of a “Rubbing Shoulders” programme and every single time it was covered and published by the Nation BLP newspaper).

This second one takes the cake:
Don’t be experts / analysts offering opinions and insights into events to benefit a special interest.
( Enter Peter Wickham , political advisor to Mia Mottley and Nation newspaper columnist who can NEVER EVER find anything wrong with anything Mottley does, Enter Ryan Straughn who was given a column by the Nation BLP newspaper in their Business Authority to boost his profile while he was planning to be a BLP candidate, Enter Colin Jordan who was given several guests columns in the Nation BLP newspaper to talk tourism and criticize the current party, of course we have Frances Chandler who is now every week in the Nation shamelessly begging for votes for the BLP, I could go on and on – including Mascoll who during the last election showed me something I had never seen in local media – a man appearing in pictures on a political platform and being covered on one page while writing a newspaper column on the next.

The Nation BLP newspaper is what it is – a political public relations propaganda machine trying to fool people that they are independent. ONE BIG STUPSE.

“Answer this question when last have you seen anybody in the Nation newspaper write anything critical of Mia Mottley.”

Weren’t there many articles questioning Mia Mottley’s entitlement to practise law without an LEC?

So where have those concerns disappeared to? Under the electoral carpet since the AG has failed to respond to the Resolution passed at your party’s “last” annual conference?

Why was Ms Mottley issued with a licence to practice law during 2018 and still not in possession of an LEC?

Is that the reason the same GS- now trying to ascend the steps of the HoA as the only ‘Opposing’ member in the next session of the Parliament- has gone ‘squeaky’ silent on this burning issue?

Don’t you think these serious matters of integrity- going to the heart of governance in Barbados- ought to be highlighted in the media both at your BLP Nation newspaper and in the Advocate which will soon be publishing in full colour Dr. Inniss’s report about the causes of failure of the sewerage system on the South coast?

Now blame the Nation BLP for that abject failure in maintenance à la your incompetent deceitful lying party!

Read and weep to find out about the game of Russian roulette your destructive administration has been playing for the past 5 years with the public health and economic well-being of the people.

    @Miller
You are really grasping at straws, bobbing and weaving all over the place and cannot explain why the Nation newspaper is paying 7 columnists to campaign for the BLP under the guise of “independent commentators”.

Even Barbados Today has called out Mottley on occasion for not even putting forward a credible economic alternative but no not the Nation BLP Newspaper, they cannot say anything negative about her.
Wake UP Miller and try to be objective, if that is possible. The Nation is using the Fox News approach. You report what the other side says (eg: Absence of a LEC ) but then you use the patd commentators to push public opinion in the direction you want it.
It is not coincidence that the Nation columnists take Mottley’s defence on every issue. Check Frances Chandler , you even had Harry Russell a few Mondays ago begging Mr. Arthur to give Mottley a chance.
To take and change a line from Bill Clinton’s 1992 Presidential campaign: “Its the columnists Stupid”.
Those are the BLP attack dogs employed by the Nation BLP Newspaper to do the party’s propaganda.

    Grasping at straws? Really?

Ok, let us say the miller is the drowning man about to go under with poor Mia Mottley floating on a branch from a coconut tree.

We are both dead in the water.

Now can you focus on what the former Guv of the Central Bank Dr. Deliar is warning your administration about? Are the foreign reserves about to dry up completely pushing the Bajan Mickey Mouse dollar under extremely choppy waters?

Are you going to read his ‘balanced comments’ in both rag sheets you like to read to satiate your hunger for intellectual filth?

After all, he is/was one of confidants in the sanctum sanctorum of your party’s administration and knows your endemic weaknesses when it comes to the management of the country’s financial and economic affairs.

Is the make-believe wise man who doctored many of the cooked books of economic misinformation in his time at the bank of economic propaganda a ‘born-again’ liar or is he repenting for his sins and speaking the Truth about Barbados’s dismal outlook for its capacity to earn forex and defend its 2:1 peg?

Is your arrogant pig-headed incompetent boss going to listen to the loose-lip doctor of voodoo economics and jump ship before the foreign reserves tank flounders and sinks by calling elections within the next 30 days or is he going down like a true loyal captain of vacillation at the helm with his ship of state?

@Miller – Your inability to defend what is going on at the Nation BLP Newspaper and the prostituting of this newspaper to do the BLP’s propaganda bidding is reflected in your non answers that never address the questions I pose. Your responses are as predictable as Pat Hoyos , Albert Brandford and Peter Wickham Sunday column.
Your “responses” usually fall into one of these categories:

Number one – Look at CBC and the Advocate

    Number 2- Attack the messenger

    Number 3 – Raise a different issue.

No objective person can argue that the Nation newspaper is not using a strategy of BLP leaning or outright BLP operatives in the case of Mascoll and a few others to push a particular narrative. The evidence is overwhelming.
