David Estwick, minister responsible for the BWA/water

Has the time come for the authorities to divert traffic from driving through sewage water on the South Coast of Barbados?

Does commonsense require citizens to avoid the use of the road?

Should eating establishments be closed in the area of the sewage leak?

What about the two bus stops located in the area adjacent to Lanterns Mall and Tapas/KFC where school children and adults like are spotted daily waiting for public transport?

What are we waiting for?

Since you know so much about that incident … perhaps you will be kind enough to explain to Bushie HOW a prison manages to be burnt down ….AFTER armed police, prison guards, soldiers, along with Tom, Dick, and Harry had already ‘occupied’ the place?

Unless Bushie has acceptable evidence to the contrary, I support your conclusion. That was a crisis, however caused, that was competently managed.

Are you sure you want to continue to refer to Pres. Obama in those vituperatively insulting downlow(e) terms?

Pres. Obama might not be your type of “God” even if black unlike the one you call Jesus.

If Pres. Obama is the “BULLER” you are trying your best to make him out to be how then would you describe a man you love so dearly who had the strange habit of sleeping with ‘ghetto’ men in a garden called Gethsemane?

Was your pure and innocent sweet Jesus friend married and should have gone home to his wife or wives after spending many hours in the day with ‘ men’ of suspect character and leanings?

Pres. Obama has a wife and family. What about your fictitious white Jesus aka Yeshua or the Jewish playwrights’ reincarnated warrior named Joshua?

Do we have a breakdown of the property and other assets owned by the Anglican and Methodist churches?
    Cheers
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There is a book on “Historic Churches of Barbados” by Barbara Hill which explains the building program for churches after emancipation.

Nice simple matrix of year by year construction.

The first Bishop was Coleridge, 1824-1842 followed by Parry, 1842 – ?

These are the men who were responsible for the building program of Churches and Schools.

… hence Coleridge and Parry School.

Wherever you see an area referred to “Parish Land” or the Glebe, those lands were probably gifts to the Churches to accommodate the freed slaves at small rents.

There is also a Diocesan History also available, I have not read it, just extracts.

For example out of that you will find the location of St. Joseph’s Church was a gift from the Vaughn family to the Anglican Church to relocate the old St. Joseph’s Church in Frizer’s Valley which and been removed by a landslip around the time of the 1831 hurricane.

Pretty sure I have read somewhere that Providence was a gift to the Methodist Church from the Reece family.

Mount Tabor was a gift from the Haynes family to the Moravian Church.

You will probably also find that the gifts came with free labour to build the churches out of crop

  12. I think the IADB should send an independent team to inspect the sewage system on the south coast with a view to finding out why in such a short time there has been such a catastrophic failure.

They cannot be happy to see their money causing such a disaster that impacts the economy of Barbados and its ability to repay its loans.

I have some difficulty in comprehending the relevance of your first paragraph to the issue of competent crisis management. Surely management of the crisis did not begin and end at Glendairy. That is why I emphasized acceptable evidence to the contrary.

    Wunna too nasty!

“One of this country’s few remaining ecological attractions is apparently now under threat from the worsening sewage spill on the south coast.

Some business owners and residents impacted by the spills have taken matters into their own hands and are resorting to dumping the vile smelling effluence, which has pooled in their backyards for months, into the Graeme Hall swamp.”

The CDB is telling the government exactly how they feel…..which makes the likelihood of them being reelected to parliament…0 for 0…lol……

….even countries impacted by hurricanes last year are likely to do better than Barbados economically, yet none of that concerns the government, talk about misplaced priorities.

“Barbados is in danger of having the region’s worst performing economy this year.

    Growth of 1.7 ‘not enough’
Predicting that the Barbados economy would grow by no more than 0.7 per cent in 2018, Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) director of economics Dr Justin Ram yesterday advised Government to take urgent action to reverse the slide.

He gave the island a five-point to-do list that included reducing debt and cutting spending. Ram also thinks current road and sewage problems suggested Government needed to reform how infrastructure was built and managed in Barbados.

The economist gave the advice yesterday as he forecast that after growing by one per cent last year, Barbados’ predicted marginal growth this year would be the worst of the CDB’s 19 borrowing member countries. This included countries affected by hurricanes last year.”

So why do you think Lord Fumble is delaying the elections until June when the he can go no further unless declaring a state of national emergency?

The voters on the South coast are not easily bribed with i-pads and phones like the hand-to-mouth garrison constituencies in St. Michael and will be kicking JB to the shitty kerb if the elections are called before the sewerage problem is fixed.

Hockey would make sure of that.

  19. @David

“assistance is being sought from the IADB”

IADB is a financial lending facility of last resort for FAILING or FAILED countries because other institutions will not give them loans. IADB has only limited technical knowledge about the projects they make loans for, they are primarily interested in the specifics of the loan, interest rate, dispersments, time tables, repayments and some limited understanding what, why, where and when.

Using IADB as a rational that it’s technical blessing for a project means its a good project, is idiocy.

    ………………………….

Miller, if I had a business or lived on the South Coast and was severely affected by this issue, you really feel I will keep talking about shite all the time and not do nothing? Legal Action or some recourse it will be. If everyone affected pack their belongings and make up bed by Illaro Court would you not think that a faster approach will come? Neither the Prime Minister or any of his Ministers lives on the South Coast – who feels it, knows it!

We need more Comisiongs in Barbados.

  22. Should the south coast area affected by sewage be isolated until there is a solution? An emphatic “Yes”! Why do I say so? In addition to the many health hazards faced by everyone residing in the area, let’s add this one – a family of four live outside of the feces saturated area BUT they have to traverse the Worthing/Hastings area every morning on their way to drop the two children off to school and again on the way home in the evening. As the vehicle drives through the disease laden water, the entire back and sides of the vehicle is covered with disease laden water. Arriving at school, the children alight from the vehicle, close the doors (with unprotected hands), go to the back of the vehicle and open the tailgate or boot of the vehicle (again with unprotected hands) as they come into direct contact with the dried hazardous residue. These same actions are repeated by both parents as they too exit the vehicle on their way to work. This action will be duplicate in the evening. Multiply this by the number of families that have the same experience each day and you now have an idea of the enormity of the health challenge we face. God must surely be a Barbadian or this country would be experiencing catastrophic health outbreaks unprecedented anywhere else in the Caribbean.

Obviously too much oxygen going to the brain has had a negative impact on the thinking of the silent one.

Go to a bank, any bank, and ask it for a mortgage to say build a house.

It has no technical in house capability so it hires (you pay) someone who has the capability to oversee the construction.

The last thing it wants is a lemon because if it has to foreclose, it wants to know it has a saleable asset.

  25. @John February 8, 2018 at 5:31 PM #

“It has no technical in house capability so it hires (you pay) someone” ONLY IN BARBADOS WOULD AN IDOT PAY TO PROTECT SOMEONE ELSE’S MONEY. If bank wants to protect THEIR MONEY let them pay. This does not mean the someone has any knowledge or creditability for what their hired to do. This requirement on the borrower is no more than another layer of graft, corruption and incompetence.

If you trust a bank to arrange construction oversight your probably gauranteed of a LEMON.

IADB loan approval is by no means a guarantee of a successful project. In fact past reviews of IADB loans shows an abnormally high failure level when compared to loans from other than LAST RESORT FINANCIAL instututions.

“……. said Government had given the go ahead to fast track the, medium term strategy of, digging of several injection wells in which to divert the waste.

“As soon those projects are close to completion I would get back to the public. Right now I am a little unsure of the time, because as you are digging wells you don’t know what you are going to find, but I can say that we would be looking at the next three to six months for the completion of those solutions,” Estwick said during press conference at his ministry’s headquarters in Graeme Hall, Christ Church, which was also attended by top personnel of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) including General Manager Keithroy Halliday.”
