It’s about time! Deadbeat mothers that takes the men child support and still the child does not gain. I would like to see more parents going to jail for child neglect. It’s a subject that is NOT taken seriously in this country.

A dead beat mother is the same as a dead beat father…the father raises the child, has full custody and the mother does not support the child, or share in the responsibilities of raising the child….despite the father playing his part…..it is rare in Barbados and the Caribbean….but it happens.
It’s rare because it is always the fathers running away from their responsibilities to the child….in most instances….in the Caribbean.
Based on the video accompanying the submission the headline is incorrect, there is an allegation by the father that the mother is restricting access to their daughter. The father is further alleging that the mother has taken this action despite a Court Order which granted him reasonable access to the child. If the mother is flouting a Court Order aren’t there penalties for these kinds of violation?
Dead beat Mom or a irate and vindictive Mom who has harbour long term bad attitudes against this Father.
The court needs to order parent counseling for both parents as an intervention to get to the heart of what seems to be a personnel war between mother and father

Court orders are flouted every day and if your finacial circumstance is dire it is a challenge to enter the court system to challenge.

About 3600 children are born in Barbados everyday, so at any given time we have 3600 x 18 years =64,800 minors at any given moment.
Clearly we can’t afford to assign a Child Care Board Officer to every child.
So yes. Since the Board does not live in our houses that have to wait for reports to come to them.
It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF MOTHERS AND FATHERS TO BE GOOD RESPONSIBILITY PARENTS. The Child Care Board does not have the capacity to hold your hand every moment of every day.

I looked at the Facebook post and two things stood out for me.
ONE: A father who thinks that it is ok to turn up at 10 o’clock at night to bring street food for a three year old? The mother told you the child was sleeping. Good mum. A 3 year old should always be sleeping at 10 o’clock at night. And next morning I certainly would not feed my 3 year old with warmed over street food. Straight into the garbage it would go. Ugh!!!
TWO: The father has said that he is 50 and his mother is 75, and that the child is 3. Unequally yoked here.
Unless the mother is also 50 or so.
I would suggest that both parents go to counselling.
I would also suggest that the father get himself a nice post menopausal 50 something year old woman to be his companion in his old age. He will NEED such a nice companion.
And next time please don’t call out the mother of your child on Facebook.

The process for dealing with maintenance for delinquent fathers is a complete farce. If the child that is in need of financial support came from parents who were divorced or from a couple who were living together for five or more years, the matter is dealt with by the High Court. Maintenance for other children is deal with in the magistrates’ courts.
Only mothers can apply for maintenance in the magistrates’ courts. These magistrates only have the power to order maintenance and even though some of them feel for the men and tell the mothers to allow access to the fathers, those courts have no power to enforce such an order against the mothers.
The Maintenance Act was designed to deal with children who were considered bastards under the law, and even though the 1980 Status of Children Reform Act eliminated bastards and declared all children to be equal under the law, this nonsense of bastards for the magistrates’ courts still remain in practice.
Oh, by the way, the magistrates can make an order to garnish the father’s salary. The problem comes when the man is unemployed. Also, you should note that men are not sent to jail for non payment of child support. They are jailed for contempt of court because they did not obey the court order to pay. How can it be contempt of court in cases where the man had no means to pay. He goes to jail for 42 days and when he comes out, the money is still owed.
In 2017 our laws and court system should not be functioning as though we are still in the 19th century. When men go to jail, their children are still hungry. Instead, they should be assigned work and part of the wages should be paid to support the children.

And I would say to the father, don’t go playing “macho man” and pay more than the court has ordered.
Pay what the court has ordered. No more.
Take the difference and put it into a education savings plan for the child. You have said that she is a bright girl and I believe you. However by the time she is ready to complete her master’s degree or doctoral degree you will be retired and or a fixed income, then she will really need that money which you have saved for her to assist with her educational expenses.
There is no point putting that money into the mother’s hand at this time.
Save it for the child.

If deaths are included then that population may have had as many births in a year as we do today.
A sobering thought when compared to today, 3,600 babies born in a year.
It looks as though approximately 50 % of the slave population was 20 or younger in 1817.
Today it looks as if it is about 25%.
Wonder how the populations compare at the other end of the age range percentage wise?
I was assuming the population was 300K, the census data says 250K
So instead of 1/4 or 25% I should have said 1/3 or ~33%

The oldest slave in 1817 was 114, a super centenarian.

Listen Kammie all those stories might be related to people having mental issues. No sane individual carry those traits of negative behavior that affects on a child well being.
Unfortunately family members caught in these situation spend more waking hours trying to treat the symptoms rather than the root cause of the problem.

Do you think that is because the male dominated DPL/BLP parties and male dominated Parliaments like um so, because they want the opportunities for themselves and their friends and colleagues to treat their outside children as of significantly less value than wife’s children? That they want to deprive these outside children of adequate support, adequate housing, adequate educational opportunities, and equal inheeritance rights?
I put it to you that if the mostly male Parliamentarians wanted to fix this this they would have done so. And that they have not touched this for more than 36 years because they like it so.
So if the men of Barbados want justice, then they must demand justice from the male Parliamentarians.
This injustice in ENTIRELY men’s fault.
@Simple, my point is that the CCB who most times are familiar with cases act upon these said cases too late. They sit back and waits for a “purly” of the neighborhood to call them or when a matter becomes public. They are supposed to be in the field.
One of the problems is that too many officers become too friendly with they charges.

No Kammie. I am not taking it as a joke. i am taking it as a person who has successfully raised or helped to raise several children to adulthood. A few of them are older that you are.

Another piece of advice. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER attempt to visit your pre-school child during darkness. Even if you mean well, and I DO BELIEVE that you mean well, it looks funny. If you show up at 10 at night it might look as though you are trying to find out if the mother has a boyfriend visiting, and whether or not she has, it just looks “funny”. Take it from a grandmother figure. Do NOT do it again. After dark a preschooler should be fast asleep, or preparing to go to sleep. Organize yourself so that you have time to visit your preschool and elementary school aged child ALWAYS in the DAYTIME.

If they would allow all new mothers to put the names of the fathers of their children on their birth certificates, without the fathers volunteering to and being present at the Registry….and sort out all the other details later…there would be no such problems on the island, it would be compling with the Children Reform Act….but again, everything is done assbackwards in Barbados, particularly with idiot men leading the charge.

@Angela Skeete, the act that deals with these issues need overhauling as counselling should be mandatory.
I am reminded of a 12 year old boy who walked from St Lucy all the way to Eagle Hall, While he was walking for the 72 hours he was reported missing. When he was located after his trek to Eagle Hall he said he wanted to see his father but his mother would not allow him.

Women need locking up for denying men their children it’s been happening forever time for jail now. The men get jailed for the slightest thing pertaining to the child and so should the women.
