A City of Bridgetown member expresses disgust!

I’m informing you to the fact that I take offense to your ad on health and nutrition in Barbados Today page 4. This ad features photos of blueberries and strawberries. These fruits are extra-regional while we have local fruits such as Avocado, Soursop, Bajan Cherry etc which are just as if not more nutritious than any fruit from outside the region. Why couldn’t these form part of the promotion? This is but one of the reasons why we cannot get our people to eat locally produced food and why our food import bill is sky high (in excess of $600 million). You need to be more responsible in the future.

They should try importing only necessities for the next 10 years, put a ban on luxury items, it’s a waste of forex.

“Tired people, and old tired people make mistakes which result in the deaths of others. I haven’t killed anybody. Yet.
I meant $600 million as quoted by somebody else. I did not verify the numbers.
Because it is a blog. It is not a university classroom
    Or a newspaper of record.
    Stupseee!!!”

Simon do you now see why Shallow Hal is treated like the pedantic jackass he displays himself to be?

Every minor matter is treated by this irritatingly arrogant supercilious prick as an opportunity demonstrate his competence in shooting off his mouth from where his ass ought to be.

If he were to look into his own frail human mirror and tabulate the literary errors and omissions he constantly makes, then he would be a bit more ‘tolerant’ of the innocent foibles of other BU contributors.

“ Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story..”

Hal Austin we are listening to you, loud and clear!

  3. @Hal Austin October 20, 2017 at 10:25 AM “I asked the question, you still have not corrected it.”

Dear Hal: Unlike you I have not spent my life working with numbers. We pay our bankers, central bankers, Ministry of Finance officials, financial journalists very well.

I suggest that you check with some of them for the answer to your question.

Because when it comes to numbers I don’t go much beyond 1+1=2

In spite of that I have been amazingly effective in my professional life and in my home life.

  4. You can’t fire me.

You can’t refuse to hire me.

You can’t give me an “F”

You have NO power over me.

Even without your permission I am happy and healthy.

  6. Simple Simon,
You published a figure, I asked if it was correct and you explode. This is an almost unique cultural phenomenon. All that was required was the correction. I asked because I was interested. Is that offence?
I have no desire to hire you, fire you, deny your happiness or your good health.
Jethro Miller PGCE (FE) is simply trying to pick a fight. He is angry with himself. Ignore him.

  7. @Hal Austin October 20, 2017 at 12:19 PM ‘you explode.”

I haven’t exploded. I just checked my blood pressure and it is 115/72.

    i good.

  8. Simple Simon,
Keep it there. I am jealous.

  9. @Hal Austin October 20, 2017 at 12:19 PM. “I asked because I was interested. Is that offence?”

    It isn’t an offense.

    But aren’t you being disingenuous?

Since because of your profession we know that you are more than capable of finding out the answer for yourself.

If the pretentious jackass was that bright and on top of his intellectual game, as he likes to claim, he would have easily realized the figure quoted for the annual food import bill was a ‘simple’ typing error and could never be in the stratospheric region of “$6000,000 million”.

The figure for the annual food import bill in the region of $600 to 700 million has been bandied about too many times on BU and in the traditional press quoting ‘official’ sources for Hal the stalker to have missed the trick.

Not even Barbados’s GDP ($4.579 billion in 2016) or even its total ‘imports’ bill could be in such an astronomically high region.

And this is the finance guru (to boot, a ‘brilliantly’ outstanding investigative journalist in the same esoteric field) who would wish to be ‘charged’ with the responsibility of managing the same country’s Lilliputian foreign reserves of less than $600 million (or in Hal’s wide-opened eyes “$6000,000 million”).

    @Simon,
No. It was because it looked a bit on the large side that I queried it. I was not sure if you were making an unconventional argument.
I cannot assume what you mean, thus the reason for seeking clarification..
