The Police force will have a problem recruiting young Barbadian men because a lot of them cannot pass the medical test which involved Marijuana use.

A private sector executive is predicting that it will not be too long before the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) begins to suffer from the very cash flow problems that the Freundel Stuart administration is experiencing.
Therefore, President of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA) Charles Herbert is not bullish about the NIS’ long-term financial stability unless there a some drastic changes to its mode of operation.
Herbert this morning told a public forum organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados that the social security programme would definitely have a cash flow problem in the foreseeable future.
As a result, he said, Barbadians should expect either fewer benefits or they would be asked to make even higher contributions.”

I love Barbados; here is my Story… A Rich Heritage of Barbadian and Arab Ancestry… A Story that needs to be Re-told least we Forget?
From Slavery and Oppression To Freedom…
I speak as half Barbadian and half Arab “sand negro”. I can relate in both instances, of a great heritage my husband John I share.
I was Born in Barbados in the parish of St. John, and lived in Messiah street as a child. My mother was a Reid of Barbadian Irish Ancestry who married Isaac Abraham from Syria. It turns out that that John and I are 3rd cousins through our Father’s lineage. I could not be more passionate about the things I believe to be true because the spirit of Tyranny oppressed both sides of my Ancestry.
One side fleeing an oppressive regime leaving the middle East, while the other side travelled on Slave Ships bound for Barbados. I speak of the difference between Freedom and Tyranny because I understand and know the difference. Fortunately for me I was converted to Christ at age 18 and have studied, pondered and prayed to understand many topics including having read the Scriptures many time always seeking discernment. I have awakened to the understanding of Liberty and Freedom Versus Tyranny & Oppression. Our families fled Syria as Christians many years ago under similar circumstance as to what we are witnessing now.
In the late 1800’s the Ottoman Empire ruled by Muslims, controlled the Region, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, were not separate as they are now. Our fore fathers land and valuables were stolen and they were made Serfs because they were Christians.
When the Ottoman Empire started to break down, many fled to The Americas in hopes of Freedom and a better way of life. My Father and my husband’s family were the latter generation who were left of this mass migration which started back then. They worked very hard and overcame many barriers while adapting to their new environment, often in rural and inhabited territories. They were never given a free pass or entitlements as we are seeing now under the Past Administration. So they must be an ulterior motive don’t you think?
Christians were greatly persecuted as they are now from what we are witnessing in the Middle East! Except they are not the ones flooding Europe and the West, they remain at the mercy of Tyranny. They were not welcomed in the US, ever wonder why?
We have to recognize the Culprit and Rise above the Tide including those who uphold his ideology of Divisiveness! …The Adversary was a liar from the Beginning of time, and this is Evils Game, Always was and Still Is. Racism is one of his most deceptive tools. Do Not Allow the Race Game to reign on your parade; you are far too valuable to fall pray of its Snares… Just the thoughts from a lady who’s Ancestors were Slaves on Both sides of her lineage.
I so related to the Forgotten Story of of my Ancestors who were the first Slaves on the Island 200 years before the Africans Arrived, because of my Barbadian Ancestry through my Mother’s lineage.
It is Good to Remember that All Barbadians born on this beautiful gemstone, of Barbadian heritage have Ancestors who were Slaves Originally; the chisel of oppression carves us all of the same stone. It is well to remember that Slavery in any shape form or colour whether from Ireland, Scotland and England or Africa is Anti-Christ, for where the Spirit of the lord is there is Liberty m 2 Corinthians 3: 17 and the opposite is Tyranny, Bondage and Slavery.
What most do not realize is that Serfdom still exist today in the guise of Socialism and prospers worldwide and we that are on the Isles of the sea are not exempt. I am Appreciative of my Heritage and for the things I have Learned, Loved and Experienced here among my Bajan Brothers and Sisters and for the Courage and Fortitude of the Ancestors that runs through All our Veins!

Angela glad you enjoyed my Artwork, Our Heavenly Truly has Blessed and Prospered me and through has Generous Benevolence and I have been able to develop many gifts and talents in the Arts on many levels. Prosperity does not necessarily equate to Monetary gain as last year my family and I became homeless and it is through the Charitable Compassion of others that we have a roof over our heads. We are still hoping for a favorable outcome through the Court of Justice. What we have had to endure would have destroyed most but we have been sustained in our trials.
It is a Tragedy when you have given the strongest years of your life to building a Company that is partly yours and because of Greed and Envy, the majority Shareholder cuts you off at the heals to acquire the Company for he and his, having Returned Evil for Good. That was my husband’s only source of income and he was 54 years of age. As Fredrick Douglas says “You take away the Pillars that support my house, you take away my life”. Nothing wrong with socialism. If i had a choice between living in a socially progressive Europe or a capitalist enclave such as the USA then i would always select Europe over The States. The last time i went to The States i visited Boston. The centre of Boston was stunning. However once you breached the outskirts of the city it was apparent that the infrastructure of the city was shot to pieces.
June, you need to define what you mean by socialism. We in Europe live in what is loosely termed a mixed economy. Whereby, our governments provide a reasonable high level of public services and a first class infrastructure to her people. Private companies have piggy-banked on the back of this first class service provided by the state. Who provided the transport infrastructure which enables private sector workers to be shuttled to their place of work? Who provides the training and the facilities for those same private sector workers who may fall ill. Should i were to fall ill then i would be treated by the state.
Currently, things may be extremely bad in Barbados but can you imagine how much worse it would be if we were to adopt your narrow and twisted politics and to allow our country to be governed by those individuals who share your lunatic, capitalistic fruitcake views?

Sound observations. I too often marvel at the anglo-american neo liberal approach to society. Americans often scoff at ‘socialist’ Europe, especially the Nordics but the general quality and standard of life is very high and even the run-of-the-mill blue collar worker can afford to live in a decent house, have good health care, etc.
If one were to compare the standard of living between say the lower quartile of income earners in the US and one of the northern European countries, the US earners would fail miserably by comparison.

An Economics Professor at a university made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

Capitalism is not one system. It is many systems since there are many different types of capitalism.
However, there can be no doubt that some forms of capitalism enrich a few families and keep many other hard working families deprived of even the bare necessities of life.
Consider companies like Walmart and Amazon in the United States.All of the members of the Walton family, including women who never raised a finger to help the company, are fabulously rich. As is Jeff Bezos. But most of the employees of Walmart and Amazon are paid very low wages and receive few health benefits. Many of these workers literally cannot afford to get sick. That is a shame.

That’s not true.
The death penalty does not work by “hanging 2 of them” as Trinidad discovered when they got up one morning and hanged 9 men, and then refused or did not have the stomach to hang all of the others. The death penalty only works if it is applied consistently, that is if Barbados is willing to execute on a consistent basis, that is to briskly execute every convicted murderer and to continue to do this for all murders, even when the murderer is our son/godson/school mate, church brother etc.
The principal question is: Are we willing to do this? All the time? And for ever?

Marijuana only shows up in tests for about 90 days since the last use. So anybody who applies to the police force and does not have the discipline or common sense to hold offa de evil weed for 9 days before applying is a real, real ill disciplined fellow, or completely lacking in common sense.
And ill disciplined or foolish people have no business being in the police force.
In other words if you smoked herb from aged 14 to 24 and applies to join force at age 26 the herb will NOT show up in the test 2 years after the last use.
