Blue Horizon Hotel

The average Barbadian is blissfully unaware about what goes on in the Barbados business underworld. Deals are made in smoke-filled rooms and the ordinary Barbadian is left to emit sounds of fury on the talk shows and on social media. How was Vision Development incorporated in the nick of time to land a deal to develop the Hyatt hotel? How come government was 100% receptive to Mark Maloney when he decided to import cement to force prices down in Barbados and he was able to secure the contentious site on Port Authority lands? Is it a coincidence this matter has been mired in legal rigmarole? How much foreign exchange is being spent anyway to import Rock Hard cement? How come Mark Maloney was able to secure a sweet heart deal with the government to plant the houses at Coverley? If BU is correct there was a plan to develop an area in Bushy Park similar to Coverley.

The latest question BU is asking.
Has the Blue Horizon hotel, the GEMS property been sold to Bjorn Bjerkham and Mark Maloney for 5 million dollars?
By our calculations this computes to less than $5,000 per room. The last valuation bandied about in public was 17 million dollars. The enduring legacy of the Stuart government will be the shroud of secrecy and more than a hint of corruption attached to transactions.
Will somebody SHOUT GROTTO and the use of the Housing Industrial Fund to pay Maloney?

  1. I am reliably informed that the Land Tax Valuation for Blue Horizon is $17 million.

  2. WW,
None of those mentioned are trained Hoteliers academically and by experience with major chains the way that GS is. U are correct his local brand is easily at the top.

  3. BH was bought years ago for $16mn if memory serves correctly. How good are the buildings now? But $5mn is ridiculously low. Govt being involved God knows what maintenance has been like.

MoneyB…I never met the owner but his hotel brand is up there with the best, sorry he did not get the hotel, it’s criminal he did not get it, seeing how successful and financially viable his existing brand is fir the island….

……something is wrong with that arrangement between government and Bjerkham et al, it’s toxic to Barbados and the people.

Why are they now so desperate to jump into hotel ownership, with no experience and with so many shuttered hotels on the island……particularly since Comissiong had shut down their Hyatt scam for the time being..

If ya buy a hotel for 16 million…ya spruce it up and try to get back a profit, 2 or 3 million. ..not give the damn hotel away, for less than a quarter what taxpayers had to pay for it.

    Something is very, very wrong.

  6. THE FAILURE OF the Licensing Authority to explain why it has apparently granted permits to fake and stolen vehicles has annoyed the manager of an insurance company.

Could it be that this is the alternative location for the Hyatt??????

Could be MoneyB, makes better sense for sure..better location than Bay Street, but the corruption involved is tasteless.

Prodigal…they cant touch this because they know, we know, that corruption caused that firesale, it was not clean…so this is the blowback to the government,.

If they moving the Hyatt scam to that location, cant pay full price for the property, needed a firesale to get the property…where are they getting money from to build Hyatt, a 15 story building…surely not from Barbados taxpayers and pensioners money..

that is why I say this government has to go, they are too corrupt and involved with minority thieves and criminals.

  11. Note the Hyatt project is a private sector owned, government’s involvement is via TCP permissions etc. What onlookers are concerned about is if the property will be funded from local funds given high liquidity in the banking system or…

  12. If this story is true , then it is a good sign that local business persons are investing in our hotel sector.

They are Patriots for the cause.

I wonder when Prodigirl & Miller would follow suit and stop crying down the country and show some PATRIOTISM ?

  13. David
These notions about high liquidity in the banking sector are meaningless.

What we have here is a battle for resources. Whose children will be fed and whose will go to bed hungry

So please, keep your eye on the ball for at the end of the day no number of these projects will make any difference, once the same white people mouths are fed.

  14. @Pacha

Are you knocking the fact that a few maids, housekeepers, gardeners, activities personnel, cooks, chefs, waiters, maintenance persons etc will be able to secure jobs?

  15. David

Not all all, but we would prefer the waiters and so on be the owners of the establishment.

There is nothing these half breeds can do that we can’t do for ourselves , especially when government assistance is involved..

  16. @Pacha

You are aware the half breeds as you have described do a better job at networking- local and internationally- to mobilize capital and important search out opportunity.

  17. The dynamic suggested always existed. And we are still in a bad place, stop digging
    David

  18. Very well Pacha!

  19. David
    Yes. Of course.

But we are able to do too.

  20. Patriotic Barbadians including my self does whats in the best interest of barbados ,Mud slingers like the regular BLP yardfowls and all the poison pen articles to boot is what is wrong with barbados,
A barbadian invest in his country and all hell breaks loose , But Charles Herbert states his intention to create chaos and havoc on Barbados street and the blp yardfowls applaud
What a bunch of self hating vindictive loose cannon balls
Not one BLP yardfowl has asked for an investigation of Charles Herbert intentions NO! however asking to investigate patriotic barbadian actions for investing in their country

  21. The issue is the government selling a property for 5 million dollars to a group of people (Bjerkham, Tempro, Maloney) who are being given the opportunity to buy up and develop Barbados a la Stanford without public tender and for less than others were prepared to offer. Is your brain large enough to compute why conscientious Bajans should be concerned? With every comment you continue to demonstrate a level of hignorance hitherto unknown to humankind.

  22. Some very convoluted reasoning going on here with two arch foes MB&WW&C agreeing that…….Seale should be allowed to buy but not Tempro or Maloney…..all three have the same skintone……so what am I missing in this?

Yardfowls should be shot on sight.

    Yardfowls are useless.

That is a holdover from the Charlottesville riots, pictures of all the white racist terrorists have been taken and blasted across the US and the world, to expose them in their work places, their universities and everywhere else, calls are being made for countries to ban them and deny them entry because they are terrorists…they are very toxic.

    Just like yardfowls.

Vincent…..ya missing the part where corruption is involved.

If a property is worth 17 million.

Seale who i just found out is a seasoned and very successful hotelier offers 11 million

But a corrupt government refuses his offer and instead sells it to Bjerkham, Tempro, Maloney for 5 million dollars , despite Seale being the successful hotelier with the most money to purchase and the other 3 being known fly by nite crooks, parasites, mangoste and have no experience owning any hotels….not even Hyatt.

And you dont see something wrong with the taxpayers losing because the hotel was sold for less than a 1/4 of its value.

  25. WW&C……but I thought according to your thinking, you did not want any of them owning it no matter the circumstance.

Ya getting tied up and confused as usual, I have no problems with successful business people..I have big problems with corporate welfare rats, thieves and parasites living off the backs, treasury and pension fund of the people while bribing weak stupid slave minded politicians to survive….like what the Bizzy, Bjerkam clan and gang do,

How many times have myself and others said that on here, there are business people in Barbados, white business people who are not in the government’s corrupt inner circle of bribers and survive very well…

…Obviously Seale is not one or the corrupt government would have accepted his 11 million dollars for the hotel to help with their financial crisis they created…

    Ya slow.

I am very precise about what and whom I cannot tolerate.

This explains why the government was in a hurry to unveil the Hyatt scam…it was for election purposes only….had nothing to do with reviving the econom or impacting fireign reservesy…it would have made no damn difference.

    A lying corrupt government.

    “Central Bank Governor
CHRISTINA SMITH CREATED : 11 AUGUST 2017 BARBADOS NEWS Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, Cleviston Haynes, during this afternoon’s press briefing.

The first half of 2017 saw the foreign reserves dip well below the standard 12 weeks of imports and the outlook for the rest of year does not indicate that any improvement is on the cards.

This was disclosed by the Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Cleviston Haynes during a press conference on Friday, after making a presentation on the half-year performance of the Barbados economy to a meeting of the full Social Partnership at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

During his presentation to the Social Partners in the morning session, Haynes said at the end of June reserves stood at $635 million, equivalent to 9.7 weeks of imports.

Haynes gave a negative outlook for where the reserve levels are expected to be by the end of the fiscal year.

“My current estimate is that we will still be below. I believe that where we want to be at the end of the fiscal year, with the proceeds from the BNTCL and from the Hilton, that we will still be around the levels that we were at at the end of March this year.”

He explained the court-delayed construction of the Hyatt Hotel, as a private sector project, does not directly affect the level of foreign reserves so there is no real rush to see it come to fruition.”

Seale does not necessarily have to say anything. Tempro went to nationnews and confirmed those parasites got the hotel for a marked down price of less than a quarter of the hostel’s market value….from government.

Has government said anything yet to the PEOPLE who owned the hotel…they are the ones who should explain to the people why they gave away their hotel and why to that particular group of known parasites on the island. …and why they did not seek and accept a better offer to help out the financial mess of their own creation.

They were not even trying to replace the over 7 million dollars they spent on the stupid independence celelbration….or recoup the millions in loss they incur when they very often pick and spend throwing fetes for tourists…

.they definitely have to go, they do not have the best interest of the lives and welfare of people who elected them, as a priority.

  40. All good comments…but I don’t see any looking for the truth hiding in plain sight: sinc no private-sector big$ for elections are forthcoming this time around…and things real dread, something of value has to be handed over on the platter of expediency. Desperate men will do desperate things. Our plight …is someone’s opportunity!!

Sparrow hit the nail: when things really, really, dread…”you cyan have them all for nuttin”.

The hotel transaction itself is a smoke screen….you need to find the deal brokers and the commissions. The few dollars in the public coffers are meaningless. But you do not pay that little, without paying somebody else for the privilege of getting that price.

  43. Good chance the payment will be made offshore, unless there is a snitch…

  44. All these things can be traced….
    EASILY …. ask Jack Warner.

When will the BLP commit to uncovering these wicked and traitorous scams and to bringing the full force of the Law to bear on the perps?

The SILENCE of the opposition on these matters is the clearest sign yet, that we are between a rock and a hard place.

If the BLP GENUINELY intended to bring clean change, this would be the FOUNDATION of any promises they make to Barbados….

Not even Grenville seems prepared to make such a commitment….

…and yet wunna continue to doubt Bushie’s prognosis of deep shit in Barbados’s future.

Bushman…you know the ministers are all cowards and would never stand up on principle for what is morally right for their people, if it is not padding their bank accounts….selling out their people is within their comfort zone…nothing else makes sense to those mentally enslaved judases.

    None of them would say….enough.

None of them would say, it’s a black majority country, there should be more black owned medium and large sized businesses on the island to give the majority population a fighting chance at controlling their own economy….at controlling jobs and growth within their communities.

All of them, from both parties would sell out their people, give away their wealth, land and properties to a few greedy minorities in a heartbeat…they been doing it for dedades on the island, both DBLP..

Ah still waiting for George Payne to show us how that orange blob trump will help the Caribbea when he is getting his own people killed using race hatred in the US…as Payne so excitedly pronounced after the blob’s election, a man who would get a neo nazi to chop him in half with glee…just showing the stupid slave mentality of your politicians and ministers.

…..that is the plight of the new nigger in parliament…they always looking for a fraudulent white savior and bring themselves down doing so…and their own people right along with them. .,they are their own curse and blight.

  46. We should also ask about property transfer tax, stamp duty, outstanding land tax, legal fees utility charges etc. When Silver Rock (Gems) was sold, Owen Arthur personally waived the property transfer tax.

Grenville is only interested in bringing his extremist, right epeing, religious crap and shoving it down people’s throats, one or two of the newer parties are the same….

…..they got this dictatorial religious god mentality and dont realize the people care nothing about that, most are living a reality of disenfranchisement and need real leaders who will manage the economy without corruption and return the wealth to the hands of the majority…, to whom it belongs…

The incoming government should know the only satisfaction fir the people is to lock up these corrupt demons in parliament and their continuous stealing from the people to put in the hands of the few.

That is simple…it is not asking for a lot…just for the elected to do the jobs they are being paid by taxpayers to do….most of them, particularly the religious nutjobs are trying to turn it into something else.
