trumpWe’ve spent considerable time trying to understand the meanings for the election of Donald Trump. And while he has been talking loud but saying little, we refused to relocate our primary foci as trained on the ‘deep state’ forces surrounding him.

Yes, anyone calling himself POTUS must have some influence. But we’ve had presidents before who made all kinds of grandiose claims while foreign and domestic policy continues, on autopilot. Continued as if guided by an imperceptible, invisible force of nature. The adage of an invisible hand, you may say?

Trump’s own domestic policy, casted in broad strokes, has not gotten off to a very auspicious start. On both domestic and foreign policy Trump’s mouthings have a number of commonalities with the establishment agenda. It may be a matter of who is really boss. Trump or the ‘deep state’ forces. Is he capable of recognized the differentials in relative power.

There are no higher levels of analysis than the readings of what is to happen within the ‘deep state’ apparati. Trump maybe no more worthless or fails to work less than any of his predecessors but this old man river keeps rolling on. His grandiosity however, may leave a larger gap of failure as misplaced expectations quickly deflate, as with a busted hot air balloon.

This last week has shown us that Trump is largely a figurehead. It was a week where his National Security Adviser (NSA), Mike Flynn, was forced out under heavy fire from ‘deep state’ agents controlling the media – the ‘presstitutes’. The presstitutes in the mainstream cannot take any of these concerted actions unless supported by their bosses and these bosses have ‘deep state’ infrastructures throughout networks – CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, etc. So when we see the mainstream behaving this way we must see the hand of the ‘deep state’.

On occasions when the ‘deep state’ does not support the leaking of information you should expect them, the media, to focus on the leakers or whistle-blowers, not the contents of the leaks.

And based on our reading of the intent of the continuing invisible government, other Trump acolytes will be forcibly removed in the coming weeks. These will include Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway. What we are witnessing are essentially military manoeuvres. Chess pieces are being carefully re-positioned. They have little to do with Trump or Flynn or Bannon or Conway, per se. These are movements for war. War with Russia and Iran, but eventually China aimed at the stupendous prize – Asia.

And ‘deep state’ forces are re-asserting the battle field, at home and abroad, for foreign military confrontation. Enforcing the militaristic discourses in media. Demonizing Russia and other alleged foes. Replacing would-be ‘doves’ with genuinely reliable ‘hawks’. Replacing the impending secondary role for America in global affairs with an expansion of dominance, hegemony, empire.

And should Trump, himself, fail to continue to make the required concessions or properly recognize ‘the powers that-be’ he too will be impeached within a few years and may even end up in prison, or worse. The forces to which we refer have never been afraid of the presidency. Unlike Trump’s dreams, they see it as a figurehead standing in for the real power.

Another example of ‘deep state’ operations would be the role of Victoria Nulands as former assistant secretary of state under Hillary Clinton. Both she and her husband are original neocons of PNAC fame. Yet, there are joined at the hip with democrats to advance a war agenda. The neo-cons transcend party tribalism. Obedience to the ‘deep state’ is primary. And the ‘deep state’ wants endless war for resources.

Nulands is now a Ukrainian citizen and a senior member of the Ukrainian government. As an American citizen Nulands engaged in a conspiracy to bring down one Ukrainian government as preparation for the advance of NATO to Russia’s border and a wider hot war where nuclear weapons could be used.

All these are ‘deep state’ preparations for war on Russia but within the context of the larger objective – Asia. In collusion with George Soros, billions were expended in this massive conspiracy against Russia. These are the transcendent operations of the ‘deep state’. And Trump thinks that any president of the USA could stop this through a personal ‘friendship’ with Putin and Russia! What a pipe-dream!

The deep state and its military-industrial-security-intelligence-complex will not risk the possibility of a peace dividend. It will never risk the curtailment of its trillion-dollar budgets. It will not risk the end of US dollar supremacy. It will not risk the possibility of playing second fiddle to China and the massive New Silk Road projects planned. Not even the spectre of nuclear war will temper western greed for Asia’s resources.

This struggle for ‘eternal’ global supremacy is complex. So much so that ‘allies’ like the United Kingdom seem willing to forego their historical alliances for the promise to be ‘banker to the Chinese’. They’ll need trillions for their world-altering physical expansion in Central Asia. Successive British conservative governments have been convinced that the Chinese ‘horse’ is the right bet.

This was a week where talk about the normalization of relations with Russia took a back seat. Trump himself sent a twit suggesting that Russia should return Crimea to Ukraine. This represents a significant reversal to his previous position, and in short order, even within the context of his quixotic, chaotic behaviours, policy prescriptions, as mouthed. Writings would be a disadvantage to his fickle nature.

If there was any doubt that the ‘deep state’ forces were re-asserting themselves after the election, it was immediate removed as efforts were made to impose Robert Harward as Flynn’s replacement. Harward being a traditional pair of national security hands. Hands unlikely to depart from the well-developed thinking of the foreign policy establishment in Washington.

To reinforce this shift in perceived power, Harward demanded that, should he take the job, he would have had to be given control over those comprising the membership of the National Security Council (NSC). An obvious attempt at removing Bannon, a Trump acolyte, establishing a direct line to the President and re-empowering the traditional foreign policy establishment types, of which Harward himself derives.

While Trump was sent to the kiddie’s table – in Florida – to stroke his damaged ego, his Vice President Pence was jetted to Europe to reinforce traditional American warring alliances with a still expanded NATO. Nobody remembers anymore the promises made to Russia by Bush, number one, and endorsed by Clinton.

NATO’s main projects currently is to threaten Russia’s western perimeter. Promote the notion that Russia is aggressive in the Baltic states. Engage the Russians in the Black Sea. Limit its access to the Bosphorus Straits. Deny Russia use of its warm water ports in Syria; possibly Libya, Egypt and Lebanon as medium term objectives. This is a policy of total war!

The frightful Trump ‘revolution’ is being aborted by ‘deep state’ forces. Those forces are making it clear that war with Russia is their tactical and immediate objective, not the leap of ‘faith’ Trump represented to some. Trump seems to have forgotten the USA was built on war. And a target of such war cannot be befriended by the POTUS.

‘Deep state’ forces are saying the ‘pivot to Asia’ is their strategic objective, not better relations with Russia. These forces seem to believe that a ‘limited’ war with Russia will defang her; open-up China for a war to decide the future or the fortunes of Asia. Kissinger’s edit has long been ‘whoever controls Asia (Central Asia) will dominate the next century’. That still guides the ‘deep state’.

When Donald Trump burst onto the political scene we discussed all kinds of ideas in attempting to explain this perceived deviation from the mean. Those included the possibility of a fascist American regime. The truth is that the ‘deep state’ will not now sanction such a re-orientation. We are more likely to see an extension of neo-liberalism even as capitalism continues to fail, miserably. There will be no fixes supported by the ‘deep state’. Stealing other peoples’ resources was always the way the West escaped capitalism’s failures.

Less than 30 days into this Trump presidency we have arrived at firm determinations. There will be no departure from the recent governing traditions even if some unsavoury attempts are made to further pressurize populations, at home and abroad. Grand Chessboard priorities will continue to determine our destiny.

The signs have finally started to emerge that Trump is no more than a loud mouth dud. This impotence will leave us in the same relative position that we have always been, may be worse. More wars and rumours of wars. More resource wars at home and abroad. Social disruptions created by Trump will interfere with the world only on the margins but ‘deep state’ forces will continue to be as in control as they have long been.

Colonel…it’s obvious many Bajans like other Caribbean people would be detained under new more expeditable procedures. ..to date on another forum it’s reported over 1400 Trinis have been detained, they all await processing…

..ICE is not bound by law to tell the Barbados Consulate anything until the processing starts, not just yet, they have to figure out which detainees are willing to go through a 2 year hold, maybe parole, maybe a final deportation order, maybe expedited deportation. …and then the Consulate will be contacted.

I wont listen to either idiot airhead McClean or Fruendel…if ya know how the system works and obviously neither of them do….that’s how it will play out…the families of the detainees are the best ones to get info from…if they have family in the US.

A New York Times article claims the United States is worried about
having Trinidad and Tobago, “ a breeding ground for extremists”, so close to it.
It says the Donald Trump-led administration fears Trinidadian ISIS fighters might return from the Middle East and “attack American diplomatic and oil installations in Trinidad, or even take a three-and-a-half-hour flight to Miami”.

The story, titled “Trying to Stanch Trinidad’s Flow of Young Recruits to ISIS”, was written by journalist Francis Robles, with contribution from former Trinidad Guardian news editor Prior Beharry.

The article said the issue of terrorism and foreign fighters was one of the topics Trump discussed with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley when he called him on Sunday.

“Law enforcement officials in Trinidad and Tobago, a small Caribbean island nation off the coast of Venezuela, are scrambling to close a pipeline that has sent a steady stream of young Muslims to Syria where they have taken up arms for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL,” it stated.

“In contrast to the laws of many countries, it is not illegal in Trinidad to join the so-called caliphate, though the Government wants to change that,” the story noted.”

Mexico fears Trump will build deportation camps on border
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 12:34 PM

    JAN. 25, 2017 PHOTO
“In this Jan. 25, 2017 photo, a truck drives near the Mexico-US border fence, on the Mexican side, separating the towns of Anapra, Mexico and Sunland Park, New Mexico. (CHRISTIAN TORRES/AP)
MEXICO CITY — Mexicans fear deportee and refugee camps could be popping up along their northern border under the Trump administration’s plan to start deporting to Mexico all Latin Americans and others who entered the U.S. illegally through this country.

Previous U.S. policy called for only Mexican citizens to be sent to Mexico. Migrants known as “OTMs” – Other Than Mexicans – got flown back to their homelands.

Now, under a sweeping rewrite of enforcement policies announced Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, migrants might be dumped over the border into a violence-plagued land where they have no ties while their asylum claims or deportation proceedings are heard in the United States. U.S. officials didn’t say what Mexico would be expected to do with them.

The only consensus so far in Mexico about the new policies of President Donald Trump is that the country isn’t remotely prepared.

“Not in any way, shape or form,” said the Rev. Patrick Murphy, a priest who runs the Casa del Migrante shelter in the border city of Tijuana, which currently houses about 55 Haitian immigrants. They were part of wave of thousands who swarmed to the border in the closing months of the Obama administration in hopes of getting asylum in the U.S.

Tijuana was overwhelmed, and while the government did little, a string of private Christian groups pitched in to open shelters with improvised bedding, tents and sanitary facilities. Donated food kept the Haitians going.

Mexicans quake at the thought of handling not thousands, but hundreds of thousands of foreigners in a border region already struggling with drug gangs and violence.

“Just look at the case of the Haitians in Tijuana, what were they, seven or eight thousand? And the situation was just out of control,” said Alejandro Hope, a Mexico City-based security analyst. “Now imagine a situation 10 or 15 times that size. There aren’t enough resources to maintain them.”

It’s unclear whether the United States has the authority to force Mexico to accept third-country nationals. The DHS memo calls for the department to provide an account of U.S. aid to Mexico, a possible signal that Trump plans to use that funding to get Mexico to accept the foreigners.”

Officers surround main Standing Rock camp, preparing for evacuations

They have the camps surrounded – dozens of North Dakota police and now a small army of National Park Service rangers who are counting down the hours to clear the network of camps behind the Dakota Access Pipeline battle.

By 2 p.m. Wednesday, all roads leading into the main Oceti Sakowin camp, named for the Seven Council Fires (or tribes) making up the Great Sioux Nation, will be closed and the last 200 or so people remaining on the historic treaty lands will be ordered to leave.

Melaine Stoneman, a Sicangu Lakota woman from Rosebud, South Dakota, is helping organize the exodus of women and as many as 25 children younger than 10 from the camps. Area churches have been secured as shelters.

“We kind of felt that the casino wasn’t really a safe place,” Stoneman said, referring to the tribally owned Prairie Knights Casino and Resort, which is swarming with federal rangers.”

  9. NorthernObserver Avatar

    Please…..

“But for the community at the heart of the movement, the Standing Rock tribe, there is no call to keep the protesters in place. They made their position clear in a resolution attached to a flier released Monday by the state of North Dakota: “ALL THE INDIVIDUALS AT ALL CAMPS IN AND AROUND CANNON BALL NEED TO LEAVE THE DISTRICT.”

Patti Kelly, an older resident of Cannon Ball, led the districtwide resolution for all nonresidents to leave the reservation. She called the campers “a bunch of white rainbow people” during the January tribal council meeting, where her resolution received unanimous approval.

So….”Stealing from the Native tribes and uprooting them again.”???

Since hundreds of native communities in the USA have deals with the multiple groups who traverse over their lands, you can guess that at least part of the truth here, is the Sioux and the pipeline could not reach agreement, so the pipeline opted to re-route the pipeline AROUND native land boundaries. READ….there is no revenue to the Sioux. Native Americans like money just as much as non-native Americans.

Yes! The tea leaves seem to be pointing towards Trump surviving the Russian conniption.

What is very interesting to me (but is par for the political stakes) is that the Democrats and the Repubs attended the same security briefings by Comey (no less!) but are each taking away a totally diametrically different understanding and vision of the import of the briefings.

    Politicians! Pshaw!!

Reminds me of our local situation.

All the economists prattle about the dire state we are in where appears possible that the Government might be unable to pay salaries, wages and pensions in the immediate future in addition to other defaults.

The BLP people are in agreement and MAM calls for a march to take place over 2 weeks from now as the situation seemingly deteriorates.

Outside of noises by Donville and Estwick the DLP people see no problem in the situation.

The PM sees no need to even be briefed on the situation by the MoF, far less to insert himself into it. OK! We know he is a politician and has almost as prolific a relationship with untruths as hasTrump so we should take much of what he says with a pinch of salt.

@WW&C….The Canadian annexation will occur once the flow of people from the southern border strangle our liberal (small l) majority. Once we begin to provide services for the ‘undocumented’ we cannot provide for the documented, shit will hit the fan. We are currently annexing the urban from the rural, and have already annexed the ‘have not’ provinces from the ‘have’. Only a matter of time. If DJT raises our ‘financial’ protectionist measures as part of trade, that will accelerate things.

Statement from Reporters Committee on press freedom in the first month of the new administration
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Contact media@rcfp.org or (202) 795-9304
On Wednesday, in reviewing the first month of the new presidential administration, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press made the following statements.

Statement from David Boardman, chair of the steering committee of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press:

“In the first month of the new administration, we’ve seen unrelenting verbal attacks on the media and journalists. Referring to members of the American press as ‘the enemy of the people’ is incendiary, and should not be taken lightly.

“Our country was founded on the belief that a free press is essential to democracy, and the Reporters Committee is deeply committed to ensuring that journalists are able to do their jobs.”?

Statement from Bruce Brown, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press:

“Intimidating journalists is in direct contradiction to core American values. Threats to press freedom are not trivial, and as always, we’ll be working directly with journalists and news outlets to protect their rights under the law and the interests of the public in robust reporting on all facets of the new administration.

“In addition, the Reporters Committee and our allies will be launching an effort to more comprehensively track and document subpoenas and arrests, border stops and searches, and other instances here in the United States that undermine journalists’ ability to gather and report the news.

“We want to remind journalists everywhere — whether you report for a major outlet, a small nonprofit news startup, or as a freelancer — the Reporters Committee has the pro bono legal support, tools and information you need to protect yourself and your work. Our legal defense hotline is manned by Reporters Committee attorneys 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our website is full of free resources and guides on topics ranging from state and federal open government laws, access to electronic records, shield laws, and more. An undocumented woman suffering from a brain tumor was reportedly removed from a Texas hospital against her will and taken to a detention center, one of her lawyers said Wednesday.

Sara Beltran-Hernandez migrated from El Salvador without proper documentation and has been trying to obtain asylum for the past 13 months, paralegal Melissa Zuniga said. After complaining about severe headaches, the 26-year-old woman collapsed at a detention center in Arlington earlier this month and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Beltran-Hernandez’ condition was not immediately known, but Zuniga told The Hill that her client was forcibly removed from the Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth on Wednesday evening.

“She told us they tied her hands and ankles in her condition,” Zuniga told the news site. “She’s complaining of a lot of pain.”

Doctors determined on Saturday that Beltran-Hernandez needed surgery, Zuniga said. It was not immediately clear whether she had underwent surgery before her removal.”

“The 15 professors, who specialise in legal ethics, cite several incidents, including a television interview in which Conway made the “false statement that President Barack Obama had ‘banned’ Iraqi refugees from coming into the United States for six months following the ‘Bowling Green Massacre,’ ” and the use of her position to endorse Ivanka Trump products.

“We do not file this complaint lightly,” the professors said in their filing. “We believe that, at one time, Ms. Conway, understood her ethical responsibilities as a lawyer and abided by them. But she is currently acting in a way that brings shame upon the legal profession.”

The professors teach at law schools such as Georgetown University Law Center, Yale Law School, Fordham University and Duke University.”

Texas man claims he was fired after KKK hood harassment

A Texas fracking company is being sued for allegedly firing a black employee after he complained about white coworkers donning a Ku Klux Klan hood to “intimidate, ridicule and insult him,” prosecutors said.

The U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission is filing the federal suit against Houston-based Downhole Technology on behalf of ex-employee Kenneth Echols.

Echols, who started working at Downhole in 2014, claims the KKK-inspired incident occurred on April 15, 2015. He reported the apparent racism to a supervisor, and claims he was subsequently threatened by one of the men involved.

He reported that threat as well, but received little attention.

Then, on April 21, 2015, an HR director at the company supposedly requested that Echols agree that he had not been harassed against because of race. When Echols refused, management apparently booted him……..”

“WASHINGTON, United States, Thursday February 23, 2017 – United States officials are reportedly concerned that Trinidad and Tobago nationals who have joined ISIS could return and pose a threat to US interests.

Following President Donald Trump’s call to Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley over the weekend, the New York Times carried a report in which it outlined the US concern about the twin-island republic, a country described as “a breeding ground for extremists”.

The article, entitled ‘Trying to Stanch Trinidad’s Flow of Young Recruits to ISIS’, quoted a White House spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, as saying that in that weekend telephone conversation, they spoke about terrorism and other security challenges, including foreign fighters.

Government list of Trump travel ban detainees leaves out names

The government’s list of 746 travelers detained under President Trump’s travel ban is missing at least 10 names, raising troubling questions Friday about its accuracy.

“We don’t think the list is complete,” said Muneer Ahmad, a lawyer with Jerome N. Frank Legal Services, at a Brooklyn hearing on the ban. “We think there are inaccuracies the government should clarify.”

The government — under court order — released only the first and last names of those affected, minus any information about their country of origin, whether they were admitted to the U.S. and what their current status was.

All of the 746 people stopped during the 27 hours before a federal judge put a freeze on Trump’s executive order were visa holders — and the “vast majority” held green cards, according to their lawyers.

Activists attach ‘Refugees Welcome’ banner to Statue of Liberty
“The ultimate goal is for everyone barred under the Muslim ban who wants to come back to be able to come back,” said Ahmad.

Among the 10 people not identified on the government’s list was Sara Yarjani, a 36-year-old Iranian citizen stopped at Los Angeles International Airport.

She was returning to seek her master’s degree at a California college.

“This is a very small slice of the unconstitutional and discriminatory effects that the Muslim ban is having,” said Becca Heller of the International Refugee Assistance Project.

The curious absence of Donald Trump in ISIS propaganda
“So what we’re working with is a 26-hour slice of a much larger problem which begs the question of what the government is hiding and why they’re hiding it.”

It was also revealed Friday that the government, in a reversal of administration policy, worked with lawyers for to return at least two booted passengers back to the U.S.”

The illiterate is out of control, detaining Ali’s son is crossing the line, he is a US citizen.

“Muhammad Ali’s son detained at Fort Lauderdale airport: report
    BY EVAN GROSSMAN
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Friday, February 24, 2017, 4:50 PM

You can call this the Fail and the ‘Dale!

Muhammad Ali’s son was reportedly detained at a Fort Lauderdale airport earlier this month as part of President Trump’s controversial “extreme vetting” policy on Muslims entering the country.

“This is an outrage,” Chris Mancini, a former federal prosecutor and the family’s lawyer, told the Miami New Times. “I don’t know what is going on with Mr. Trump’s claim that his ban is not religion-based. We do not discriminate in this country based on religion.”

Muhammad Ali Jr., the 44-year old Muslim son of the world-famous boxer who died last year, was held for several hours at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Feb. 7 when he and his family returned home from a trip to Jamaica.

Ali Jr. is a United States citizen and was carrying a U.S. passport upon his return. He was travelling with his mother, Khalilha, Muhammad Ali’s first wife. She was allowed to enter without incident because, according to the report, she showed agents a picture of her with the three-time champ.

Ali Jr. was reportedly held for hours and questioned about his religion before he was allowed to enter the country.”

The majority of Americans support a Congress investigation into claims that Donald Trump’s administration had close ties with Russia during his presidential campaign, a new poll has found.

Just over half (53 per cent) of US citizens want the alleged communications investigated, while 54 per cent want a Congress investigation into general Russian interference in the election, the survey for NBC News and The Wall Street Journal found.

The findings also revealed 38 per cent of Americans think Mr Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is too friendly, while 29 per cent believe the relationship is not too friendly.”

“Trump’s phone call to PM Rowley may have cost Trinidadians over TT$3 million

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — With Caribbean leaders counting on a direct connection to US President Donald Trump to boost their domestic and regional political image, very few of them are willing to fork out the exorbitant price tags that many of the big shot lobbying firms in Washington DC are charging to set up a call.

But when it became known that Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley had received a call from Trump last Sunday, observers’ eyebrows were raised as they tried to analyze the real reason behind the call.

And even though for most of them the answers were somewhat evasive, the Guyana Guardian’s correspondent bureau in Maryland was able to ascertain that the call was organized by a paid political lobbyist firm that also handles lobbying work in Washington DC for Russia, Iraq, and Nigeria among others.

According to the Guyana Guardian’s findings, Trinidad and Tobago has been pressing for a Trump phone call since January 24 this year, and had approached two major lobbying firms in Washington, including a mid-size agency that is closely tied to the Republican Party.

However, even though the exact price tag for arranging the call was not provided to the Guyana Guardian, the publication was reliably informed that the retainer fee is a standard US$28,000 plus additional charges for the prescribed service.

And based upon existing standard figures from the same firm, organizing a phone call with President Trump will cost from US$450,000 (TT$3,043,000) upwards to about US$2 million depending on several other factors.

These fees are not paid to the president or endorsed by the president in any way. They are basically sums charged by an agency with connections, who will generally press the president’s inner circle to encourage him to make the call for one reason or the other.

While using lobbyists to advance interests in Washington, and to communicate with the US president is nothing new, or technically wrong, citizens in most small island nations such as Trinidad and Tobago are often wary of the cost that is often placed on taxpayers to hire lobbyists.

Trinidad and Tobago remains the first and only Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to receive a call from the US president himself.

The call is believed to have lasted for about two and a half minutes.

On the other hand, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness received a call from US Vice President Mike Pence, which is also suspected to be organized by a hired lobbyist.

Donald Trump’s proposals to deport millions of illegal immigrants from the US could cost up to half-a-trillion dollars, according to an estimate from American Action Forum (AAF), a centre-right public policy institute.

Policing, legal battles, administration, detention and transportation were all factored into the costs and the AAF estimated the process could take around 20 years

Mr Trump has repeatedly expressed his determination to remove undocumented immigrants from the country but with an estimated 11 million living in the US with no leave to remain, the true cost of mass deportation is coming under scrutiny. “

  42. Trump Relinquishes Control of Foreign Policy

    By Mike Whitney
February 24, 2017 “Information Clearing House” – “Counterpunch” – The war party is back in power and the odds of normal relations with Russia have dropped to zero.

The appointment of Army Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster to the position of national security adviser indicates that Trump has done an about-face on his most critical foreign policy issue, normalizing relations with Russia. General Michael Flynn– who recently stepped down from the post following allegations of lying to Vice President Mike Pence –was the main proponent of easing tensions with Moscow which is a position that had been enthusiastically embraced by President Donald Trump. But McMaster does not support normalizing relations with Russia, in fact, McMaster sees Russia as a “hostile revisionist power” that “annex(es) territory, intimidates our allies, develops nuclear weapons, and uses proxies under the cover of modernized conventional militaries.” So, what’s going on? Why has Trump put a Moscow-hating hawk like McMaster in a position where he’ll be able to intensify the pressure on Russia, increase the provocations and, very likely, trigger a conflagration between the two nuclear-armed superpowers?
