“In short, his wits being quite gone, he hit upon the strangest notion that every madman in this world hit upon, and that was that he fancied it was right and requisite, as well for the support of his own honour as for the service of his country, that he should make a knight-errant of himself, roaming the world over in full armour and on horseback in quest of adventures, and putting in practice himself all that he had read of as being the usual practices of knights-errant; righting every kind of wrong, and exposing himself to peril and danger from which, in the issue, he was to reap eternal renown and fame. Already the poor man saw himself crowned by the might of his arm Emperor of Trebizond at least; and so, led away by the intense enjoyment he found in these pleasant fancies, he set himself forthwith to put his scheme into execution…” –Don QuixoteMiguel de Cervantes

As many others, including apparently the majority of the voters in the United States, I do not care much for the politics of the current president of the United States, Mr Donald Trump. Having myself survived exposure to the nightmare scenario of his Electoral College triumph last November, nothing he has done since persuades me that he is not the narcissistic, temperamental misogynist that he projected himself to be during the campaign to citizens of the United States who, albeit, by fortuitous electoral distribution and for their various personal reasons, did not care enough about these flaws and so elected him to the high office of POTUS, as it is so charmingly referred to.

Most of my readers will be familiar with the epithet “quixotic”. It describes, according to one source, behaviour that is foolishly impractical especially in the pursuit of ideals and marked by rash, lofty, romantic ideas. The word derives from the character created in 1605 by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in his novel, “The History of the valorous and wittie (sic) Knight Errant Don Quixote of La Mancha”, to give its full title. There has been a number of musical and film adaptations since, including the 1992 “Man of La Mancha”, featuring the popular hit, “To dream the impossible dream”.

Constraints of space do not permit a fuller discussion today of the adventures of the title character, but the epigraph above offers some information as to the anatomy of his pursuits.

The connection that I seek to make between Don Quixote and Mr Trump lies in the erratic, nay, quixotic nature of the behaviour of each of these individuals. For instance, perhaps the best known escapade of Don Quixote is tilting at windmills, an expression that has found its way into the lexicon as a metaphor for inutility and one that is ideally likened to Mr Trump’s attempts to exclude Mexicans and some Muslims so that America will be “great” again, whatever that coded expression might mean.

“At this point they came in sight of thirty or forty windmills that there are on a plain, and as soon as Don Quixote saw them he said to his squire, “Fortune is arranging matters for us better than we could have shaped our desires ourselves, for look there, friend Sancho Panza, where thirty or more monstrous giants present themselves, all of whom I mean to engage in battle and slay, and with whose spoils we shall begin to make our fortunes; for this is righteous warfare, and it is God’s good service to sweep so evil a breed from off the face of the earth.”

“What giants?” said Sancho Panza.

“Those thou seest there,” answered his master, “with the long arms, and some have them nearly two leagues long.”

“Look, your worship,” said Sancho; “what we see there are not giants but windmills, and what seem to be their arms are the sails that turned by the wind make the millstone go.”

“It is easy to see,” replied Don Quixote, “that thou art not used to this business of adventures; those are giants; and if thou art afraid, away with thee out of this and betake thyself to prayer while I engage them in fierce and unequal combat.”

The analogy is satisfied even further whether we consider Sancho Panza to be Mr Mike Pence, the Vice-President, Ms Kellyanne Conway with her “alternative facts”, or Mr Steve Bannon with his antediluvian views on difference and press freedom; and Mr Trump’s choice weapons of war not to be the lance and shield but his penchant for executive orders and late-night-to-early-morning tweets.

None of this is to ignore the fact that for some unarticulated reasons perhaps best known to them, there are those who support Mr Trump. I will not hazard a guess as to their reasons, although I am prepared to concede that they are certainly entitled to their opinions.

Nonetheless, his obsession with being perceived as the smartest and the most popular incumbent ever, as well as his seemingly facile ignorance of the basic principles of US constitutionalism that he swore to uphold less than a month ago, together with his propensity to speak in superlatives all mark him out as nothing less than…quixotic.

Indeed, Mr Trump’s relationship with matters legal so far has been less than auspicious. First, he chose to dismiss, as was his prerogative, the substantive Attorney General for demurring to a patently discriminatory embargo on certain individuals, even as his proposed replacement awaits Senate confirmation, thus leaving a gap in the governance architecture that would be constitutionally repugnant in most other jurisdictions. Second, he nominates a predictable replacement for Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court; one who, unsurprisingly, comes mouthing the same tired conservative claptrap about the Constitution having a settled meaning, as if time has stood still since the time of Jefferson and the others in the 18th century.

This jurisprudential perception is indeed instructive in the current context, for the original Constitutional text in the US regarded certain individuals, definable by a common characteristic, as being less than whole human beings. Too besides, it is at least passing strange that this so–called “right” meaning seems always to accord with conservative points of view, while those opinions that endorse such progressive values as the autonomy of women and others to guard their privacy are considered matters of regrettable and unconstitutional judicial activism.

The following piece is apposite:

Almost immediately after, Don Quixote runs into some merchants whom he challenges to admit that his lady, Dulcinea, is the most beautiful damsel in the world. Not sure where the situation is leading, they address him as “Sir Knight” but anger him by some facetious comments regarding Dulcinea’s beauty. On hearing these remarks, Don Quixote charges but unfortunately Rocinante slips and our knight ends up beaten by a muleteer. What might be construed as a setback for Don Quixote is easily explained: it was Rocinante’s fault.  But equally important (to him) is the fact that the merchants addressed Don Quixote in chivalric terms.

  1. If you look at the current example of a slave raid in the Sudan where women and children are taken into slavery, Christian organisations raise money to purchase their freedom you will see that men are killed because they are dangerous.

    Children and women are submissive.

The slave raiders of today in the Sudan do not waste time castrating males, they simply kill them. They are useless to them and potentially dangerous as combatants.

It is in the New World that African males were considered useful and valuable in an agricultural economy.

Those taken across the Sahara Desert into slavery in the lands of the Arabs where agriculture was unimportant, were used in some case to guard the harems of the Sultans and castration ensured none of his concubines, some of them Africans, could be impregnated by any man other than the Sultan himself.

There may be something to what you claim about the size of the members of African men because you will see if you google the topic that castration in the Arab lands involved removal of all external genitalia, testicles included ….. except of course that male slaves from Europe also suffered the same fate.

US appeals court refuses to reinstate Donald Trump’s travel ban

The ruling is the latest legal blow to one of the president’s biggest campaign promises

A federal appeals court on Thursday denied to enforce President Trump’s refugee and travel ban affecting people from seven Muslim-majority countries. The unanimous decision is the latest and most striking legal blow to one of the president’s biggest campaign promises.

“We hold that the Government has not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its appeal, nor has it shown that failure to enter a stay would cause irreparable injury, and we therefore deny its emergency motion for a stay,” the panel wrote in its decision.

Federal appeals court upholds halt on Trump’s travel ban
    BY ADAM EDELMAN

The ruling by the San Francisco-based 9th Circuit Court of Appeals marks a defeat for the Trump White House. (WIN MCNAMEE / GETTY IMAGES / POOL/EPA)
In a stinging rebuke to President Trump, a federal appeals court on Thursday ruled to let stand the halt on the White House’s travel ban.

The San Francisco-based 9th Circuit Court of Appeals handed down a huge victory for opponents of Trump’s order, ruling against the Justice Department’s request for a stay on a Seattle judge’s earlier order to halt the travel ban until it could undergo a more comprehensive review.

In its ruling, which shelves the controversial measure indefinitely, the court held “that the Government has not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its appeal, nor has it shown that failure to enter a stay would cause irreparable injury.”

“We therefore deny its emergency motion for a stay,” the court wrote.

In the ruling, the court explained that, “to rule on the Government’s motion, we must consider several factors, including whether the Government has shown that it is likely to succeed on the merits of its appeal, the degree of hardship caused by a stay or its denial, and the public interest in granting or denying a stay.”

“We assess those factors in light of the limited evidence put forward by both parties at this very preliminary stage and are mindful that our analysis of the hardships and public interest in this case involves particularly sensitive and weighty concerns on both sides,” the court added.

Moments after the ruling was handed down, Trump took to Twitter to express his displeasure.

“SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE,” he tweeted.

Trump had promised to pursue the case through the Supreme Court if the halt on the ban were upheld.”

  7. The decision was unanimous

  8. Pacha, WW&C

Your celebrations are premature. The politician-judges of the Ninth Circuit Court, with their San Francisco values, ruled today against the president on the procedural issue of whether the travel ban should be lifted pending a future decision on the merits of the ban.

But the president is still free to argue for the ban on its merits. There is no question that as the head of the executive branch of the federal government he has the authority to exclude any class of aliens from the United States on national security grounds. But his political enemies are twisting the law and disregarding the plain language of a federal statute, as well as departing from historical precedents, to make foolish decisions from the bench that historians will denounce hundreds of years from now.

  11. @chad999999

What is the rationale for selecting the 7 countries. How will the judges determine ‘harm’ if he (Trump) advances the appeal?

  12. @chad459 at 8:36 PM # The facts of history does not support your views.

The President has continued to make baseless claims that the security of the nation is at risk with this denial of the President’s order.

If that is true then he needs to immediately redo the order so that he can avoid the issues of this denial and protect the homeland from the imminent threat.

That would be the actions of a real commander who actually believes that national security is a concern rather than one playing stupid ego games to fulfill a campaign promise.

Based on courts stopping other Presidents on national security mandates for example disputes re Guantanamo for both Obama and Bush (different scenarios) there is limited rationale that history will look askance at this decision…even if they are overturned at the Supremes (and the case sent back to the original court).

Trump has shown to the entire world to be the quick shooting, careless cowboy we all thought him to be.

@Are-We : He can be stopped…this is one small (perhaps temporary) example; And check that KellyAnn Conway stupidity as well. When the avalanche starts to roll it will be devastating! LOLL.

  13. David, the rationale was as you know the ‘blame Obama dictum’. However he is off kite-surfing and has nothing to do with this folly.

There has yet to be any rational explanation of why these seven countries were banned.

The argument that the Obama admin had selected them makes absolutely no sense to support the security risk- unless there was a new threat received.

There was already serious and purposeful vetting in place.

Trump has been called on his poorly prepared order.

Wasn’t it Congress under the former administration?

  15. are-we-there-yet Avatar
    are-we-there-yet

    David;

I think the rationale was that these seven countries had indeed been identified by Obama and supported by Congress for the institution of “extreme vetting” since the Obama administration felt that adequate documentation for vetting prospective applicants for visas from these countries was difficult to get because of chaotic conditions in those countries. Hence Obama instituted special vetting sometimes extending over many years to ensure that there was negligible risk of potential terrorists getting into America. The Obama administration did not institute a total ban of applicants from those countries. It merely took different actions to achieve the same result. Note that the Congress was involved in Obamas action on these identified countries. Trump’s ban was merely a quick fix that was not even discussed with important agencies prior to it being proclaimed and certainly not with congress.

    dpD;

    So noted!

Will await Trump’s further reaction to see if I should modify my views on the stage of his takeover of all relevant Governmental institutions in the USA and the likelihood of existential damage to that country arising from his short imperial rule so far. Hopefully, he will do as you indicated and withdraw the original order and replace it with a well thought out one asap. But there’s many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. For America and the World’s sake lets hope that he uncharacteristically admits defeat and correct that misstep.

  19. @ Are We There Yet.

@ 9.51 pm the first part of your post summarizes what the issues concerning being “Vetted for for a visa” entails.

But I will try to shed some light on what is a serious problem and why it is ten times worse in the ME in territories where lying is like breathing

We are going to use the GoB’s immigration Department and the US process as an example to detail what ICE is dealing with.

I am going to use the names of 4 imaginary people solely to personalize the experience.

Any likeness to any characters living or dead is purely coincidental

And I will ONLY focus on the Passport/Travel Document portion of the cycle since all of the rest of the cycle is internal to ICE

Step 1. Who am I? The first step of the passport process requires that a Baptism and Birth Certificates is secured.

This process is open to being compromised by the Records sections of the hospital and other agencies and, in countries where these procedures per registration of a birth are not adhered to, well you dun know what we are talking bout….

All documents are presented with pictures, signed by a Justice of the Peace or other reputable party, the the Reverend Doctor N. Miwatch (the N is for Notunder)

A Reverend, Justice of the Peace can be bought and pictures provided can be for anyone behind the niqab

In very populous countries, “ground-truthing” an ID of an individual is pretty much impossible. You are really trusting these foreign functionaries

    Step 2. Securing the Passport.

Passports are usually issued post getting the Police Certificates of Character.

With archaic Record Keeping, any record can be made to disappear at the Commissioner of Police Level, whu after all, dem High Power Rifles disappear for in the CoP office and not a soul ent know where they are up to today.
    .
Step 3. Finally all this paperwork makes it way to Humpty Dumpty.

Now, even though Barbados does not officially have a Citizenship byInvestment Programme, Humpty Dumpty has be administering one of these for years.

AND, depending on the going rate, Humpty Dumpty will allow applicants to “benefit” from this long standing CIP, proceeds of which do not feed into the Treasury. Directly.

By the way, in the other 7 countries, every single one of those steps is manned by a person who can and will do a ting which loosely means that people who are dead or are absolute fabrications of a multi tiered system of trickery are processed as Abu Bakir bin Sheik

The following are th US ICE internal steps, (i) Visitor Visa Application with its tricky questions. (ii) the Visitor Visa Application Fee (where they ask the Bank Manager for verifications of your account information, frequency of use, levels of funds, persistency etc. (iii) Visitor Visa Interview Appointment where you are cross examined for irregularities and where your passport is interrogated for *** and of course the controversial (iv) Visitor Visa Fingerprinting at the Country of Embarkation before your donkey leaves and when de ole man say before he mean dat when you get fingerprint in Barbados? you rcords dun get sent to de US for processing and (vi) the Entry Process and the Port of Disembarkation and a repeat of the Visitor Visa Interview Process just in case wunna fooping the US Consular Officer at de Embassy and piece uh poonani from the Honey Trap got he entrapped.

250 million visitors to the USA per year is not two cents in people so you really have to get it right.

    Trunk did this wrong.

He could have achieved the objective desired BUT he and his henchmen are not braniacs but de ole man ent here to advise nobody about dese tings dem or not Humpty Dumpty would loss he pick

  20. Trump did nothing wrong with this executive order.

The Ninth Circuit has objected to the Order because it fails to provide due process protections to green card holders, non-immigrant visa holders, refugees and undocumented aliens (if the latter are already in the US). But it also says it could consider other objections to the Order, on the grounds that it disfavors Muslims and may have been intended as a Muslim ban in violation of the Establishment Clause and the Equal Protection provisions of the Constitution.

The due process rationale should not apply to alien nonrefugees who have never visited the United States.

To see how ridiculous the Muslim ban/equal protection argument is, consider that the US has an annual visa lottery that favors some nationality groups over others, and nobody ever said the lottery is unconstitutional.

The appeals court also claims that the president has not shown evidence of harm to national security if the Order is enjoined. But the president is not obliged to share closely held state secrets with these judges.

Trump should stage a security incident to blow up this decision.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

… and still, to many others 9/11 has another significance.

On 11th September 1683 the Polish Army and its allies arrived on the hills around Vienna to relieve the siege by the Ottoman Turks.

The following day, 12th September, the Ottoman Turks were defeated and fled.

This marked a turning point in the struggle between Islam and Christendom.

Like the arrival of Blucher and the Prussians at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 the intervention was last minute and turned the tide.

Was the anniversary of the defeat of the Ottoman Turks chosen with this in mind?

Very clear violations of the Constitution by the illiterate one…….either suspend the constitution….or bring it on.

“In their decision, the panel also ruled that Mr Trump’s talk of a “Muslim ban” on the campaign trail can be used as evidence for discrimination. “The States argue that the Executive Order violates the Establishment and Equal Protection Clauses because it was intended to disfavor Muslims,” reads the decision.

“In support of this argument, the States have offered evidence of numerous statements by the President about his intent to implement a ‘Muslim ban’ as well as evidence they claim suggests that the Executive Order was intended to be that ban, including sections 5(b) and 5(e) of the Order. It is well established that evidence of purpose beyond the face of the challenged law may be considered in evaluating Establishment and Equal Protection Clause claims.

Omar Jadwat, the director of the ACLU’s Immigrant Rights Project, agreed with the panel’s decision.

“The appeals court’s refusal to reinstate the Muslim ban is correct,” he said in a statement to The Independent. “The government’s erratic and chaotic attempts to enforce this unconstitutional ban have taken a tremendous toll on innocent individuals, our country’s values, and our standing in the world. We will keep fighting this un-American executive order until it is permanently dismantled.”

Meanwhile, Nihad Awad, co-founder and executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, reminded supporters that the legal fight against the Trump administration is far from over.

“We applaud this ruling as a reaffirmation of the strength and independence of our system of justice. This decision adds to the long list of federal judges—both Republican and Democratic appointees—who found reason to block this discriminatory order,” he said in a statement.

“While this decision is critical, it is not the end of the legal process. Other courts across the country will be passing judgment on this order, and the US Supreme Court will likely weigh in at some point. This victory should not lead to complacency,” he continued. “This and other Trump administration orders and policies still pose a threat to communities of color, religious minorities, women, and others.”

  31. Let us really hear and read some of the facts regarding Trumps travel ban, and what Obama DID in a similiar regard, and NO one said a word against Obama!!

‘Stealth Invasion’ author: Here’s why left’s ‘frothing at mouth’ over Trump order
Hohmann: Anti-Christian, U.N. agendas both in play in immigration protests
    anti-trump_immigration_protest

Protests erupted across America last weekend after President Trump signed an executive order temporarily barring immigrants from seven terror-producing nations as well as all refugees.

Veteran WND reporter and news editor Leo Hohmann said the word “meltdown” doesn’t even begin to describe the reaction of Trump critics.

“I have never seen the left so enraged and aroused and just out there causing chaos and havoc in any way they can,” Hohmann told host Susan Knowles in a an interview on “Stand for Truth Radio.” “They’re just frothing at the mouth about these new executive orders coming out of the White House.”

But Hohmann, author of the new book “Stealth Invasion: Muslim Conquest Through Immigration and the Resettlement Jihad,” pointed out that what Trump did is very similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he froze the processing of Iraqi refugees for six months because of terrorism fears.

Likewise, President George W. Bush paused the resettlement of refugees from several countries in the aftermath of 9/11.

In fact, each of the last five presidents at some point exercised their right to suspend the entry of certain individual aliens or classes of aliens, according to a recent report from the Congressional Research Service.

“There is nothing – nothing – radical about what President Trump has done, and yet you see the left just seething with hatred and just foaming at the mouth, just coming unglued,” Hohmann said.

He said the left’s determination to label Trump’s action a “Muslim ban” shows no respect for the facts: Citizens from the majority of the world’s Muslim countries, including places like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Indonesia, are still allowed to enter the United States. What’s more, a recent Rasmussen poll found most American voters support Trump’s temporary ban on individuals from terrorist-producing countries.

Knowles warned her audience not to fall for left-wing propaganda.

“When you see something on TV or on Periscope in regard to these protests that are going on, just know in reality this is a very small number as compared to everybody in the United States,” she cautioned. “We have to stop falling for those traps, and those Saul Alinsky traps, Leo, like the #MuslimBan. Those are hashtags that Saul Alinsky would be proud of because it just keeps the propaganda going.”

America is headed down a suicidal path – but it’s a subtle invasion, and not many Americans understand the full extent of the problem. Get all the details in Leo Hohmann’s brand new book “Stealth Invasion: Muslim Conquest Through Immigration and Resettlement Jihad,” available now in hard copy or e-book at the WND Superstore.

Hohmann noted Obama engaged in something close to a Syrian Christian ban during his presidency, as less than 1 percent of Syrian refugees admitted were Christian despite the fact that Christians face persecution in Syria. But the left never protested the relative lack of Christian refugees; they saved all their vitriol for Trump’s so-called “Muslim ban.”

Hohmann isn’t even willing to say all the protesters have good intentions.

“I don’t even know if I can write them off as gullible and stupid,” he said. “I believe a lot of them are part of this agenda, this America-hating, Christian-hating, Jewish-hating agenda. So they may not be Islamic themselves, but they share a lot of the same values that come straight out of the Quran, which [include] anti-Semitism and anti-Christianity.”

He conceded there are many “useful idiots” among the anti-Trump protesters, but they serve the agenda nonetheless.

“The people who are organizing the useful idiots, in my opinion, know darn well what they’re doing, and they’re using Islam as a battering ram against Western civilization and Christianity, which they have always hated and always wanted to destroy,” he said.

However, the contempt for Trump is not just evidence of a pro-Islam agenda. Hohmann also believes leftist and globalist elites, such as George Soros, are getting nervous because Trump is refusing to play by their rules.

“For the first time in 30-something years we’ve got a president who wants to run the country and run Washington like an actual American instead of a member of the United Nations,” Hohmann said.

He pointed out the U.N. 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development essentially affirms the right of any impoverished person in a Third World country to migrate to a wealthier country and receive a warm welcome, complete with “affordable” benefits. In fact, the U.N. has made international migration a key part of its 2030 agenda.

“What the U.N. is really after is a massive global redistribution of wealth plan, and they accomplish this basically through two methods,” Hohmann said. “And these are the exact same methods that Trump has hit upon: it’s trade and immigration.”

He said the U.N. plans to redistribute wealth from the First World to the Third World partly through secretive trade deals that globalist presidents like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama willingly signed onto. These deals have the effect of outsourcing jobs from the U.S. to various Third World countries.

“And then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, the jobs that are left in this country have more competition suddenly involved in getting those jobs because we’re going to invite the world, the Third World, into our country to compete for the crumbs that are left after we complete the unfair trade deals!” Hohmann said.

  38. Nine o,
The word Oklahoma, should remind people like you that country has nothing to do with terrorism. That bomber was home born, home grown, and entirely American. He was not a Muslim, and just hated the government. Trump’s attempt to isolate the U.S. will not prevent home grown terrorists.
