TPP1With the stroke of a pen, newly inaugurated United States president, Donald J. Trump, today made good on one of his least controversial campaign promises; withdrawing his country from the 12-country Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement via an executive order. The Agreement, which was signed by the US and eleven other Pacific-rim participants in […]

Lawson….Venezuelans will not go to the US in droves, they would prefer wait for their country to stabilize.

Argentina had 1 or 2 massive crashes and their people stayed and rebuilt, Greece is still struggling and their people are finding alternative ways to survive, none of these populations ran off to North America, why should Venezuelans or Caribbean people, stay home make your country great and Trump look like the ass he is…..yall like too much slave labor, too lazy, do ya own damn work…lol

  7. “Those voters did not see what millions of others felt instinctively and that explains the shocked reaction and immediate resistance to his election: Trump’s INCESSANT BRAGGING, his LACK of EMPATHY or REMORSE, his PATHOLOGICAL LYING and even his BIZARRE APPEARANCE have been SIGNS of an UNSTABLE PERSONALITY. It was obvious to many of us that something was not right.”

    @ WW&C

A very interesting article you posted.

I was one of the “Many individuals among the public (who) undoubtedly assumed that Trump’s persona at the rallies was somewhat of a salesman’s act, that he was playing the role of demagogue to rile up the crowd.”

After listening to him during the presidential campaign, I did not “assume that behind closed doors he was a smart and able businessman, making tough decisions on the fly, handling many issues at once.” Trump came over to me as behaving and talking like an idiot, even against the background of those who tried pushing the argument that he is a successful business man.

A similar argument could be advanced for Leroy “Green Verbs” Parris. We all know Parris is a millionaire, but after listening to him speak, we often form a different opinion of him.

  15. By the way Chad, I have indeed been to Mexico. Do you hear yourself? You write (say): “…people who might plausibly claim ancestral rights in territory belonging to the United States…”.
The United States have no ancestral lands. It belongs (ed) to the Cherokee, the Sioux, the Seminoles, the Mohicans, and many many other tribes.Who lived there hundreds of years before the white man landed.
He talks about Border security; obviously thinking only of the Mexicans, but all the other borders where Europeans get into the U.S. including Canada, are so located that he cannot build any wall. They tried to invade Canada at one time, and lost. One thing I discovered when I visited Cuba, some years ago. I travelled by COPA airlines, from Trinidad via Panama. When the plane landed in Panama, many many Cubans boarded. I discovered that they had been shopping in Panama, and later found out that the purchases they had made; based on the amount of luggage they had, the consumer goods normally found in Florida, they were able to obtain the goods they were being unable to buy in Florida,; because of the U.S. embargo on trade, were easily obtained in Panama.
Trump will discover that there is a world out there that can fulfil the needs of people who don’t want to trade with the u.S., and anything the u.S. can supply can also be supplied by others. Chad, the MEXICANS DON’T HAVE TO DEPEND ON THE U.S. FOR ANYTHING. N.A.F.T.A. WAS BORN OUT OF THE DESIRE BY AMERICAN INVESTORS TO MAKE USE OF “CHEAP” LABOUR. they expected, and have used this arrangement to increase their profits. Trump will find out what I SAID before. No one is afraid of the u.S. any longer, and what the rednecks want and expect; to make America great again, is just a myth spread by a con man. Lem days got fuhevah.

  16. Sorry simon i was going through navy gardens

  17. Navy Gardens does nor represent Barbados, just as Trump Tower does not represent the United States, and the United States does not represent the world.

  20. @lawson January 26, 2017 at 7:23 AM “What amazes me is every other house in barbados has a wall around it some with broken glass or wire at the top… good fences make good neighbors”

Explain to this simpleton what is so good about a fence with wire or broken glass? And why such fences are good? and how such fences improve neighbourliness?

Maybe the people in Navy Gardens, like the people who voted for Trump are just scared…perhaps of their own shadows.

I’ve lived in Barbados for more that 50 years and never felt the need for a broken glass/razor wire fence. Still don’t.

The wicked flee [or fence themselves in] when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

  22. When one makes rules on the fly they are inviting disaster. Trump had a “hate-on” for Mexicans from the time he descended the elevator at his golden edifice and announced that he is running for President while describing Mexicans as rapists and criminals, and the country would be much better off without them. He continued his tirade against Mexicans throughout the campaign. As fate would have it an American judge of Mexican heritage ruled against him in a civil case and he went ballistic intimating that because of the juror’s background he would be biased against him (one can say with equanimity that because of Trump’s German heritage he is a Nazi) but I digress. The case that was “without merit” was settled by Trump for 25 million

Having promised to “build a wall” to keep Mexicans out of the country he had no choice but to try to keep his desperate group of supporters in his corner by signing an Executive Order authorizing the building of a wall. When his Republican Congress balked at the idea that the cost would be coming out of American’s pocket Trump at his most bellicose announced that Mexico would pay for it. When the Mexicans demurred as is their right he announced a punitive 20% tax on all imports from Mexico to punish the Mexicans.

Upon further review before one can say hola! thinking people were saying how does that hurt Mexico? it will hurt the American consumers who buy the imported goods and the US companies who in the main own the businesses in Mexico that export goods to the US. In this global economy as companies want to increase their earnings they out- source some of their manufacturing to lower costs and make bigger profits, it is part of the Capitalism model that has been around for years and no one knows this better than Trump whose branded clothing is outside the USA.

The captains of Industry in the US, those tasked with making healthy profits for their shareholders and whose remuneration depends on those profits will start to be resist when their bottom line gets smaller as a result of his policies and one or two may be brave enough to speak out at which time the floodgates will open.

Act in haste, repent at leisure.

The KAKISTOCRACY is in full effect.

Trump is mentally and psychologically unstable and delusional. That is an alternative fact ……or not. lol

If only the Native Americans, the real citizens of the US and Native Canadians, the real citizens of Canada, had thought of gopd fences and high walls a few hundred years ago, when the stragglers from UK, Germany, Ireland, Scotland etc had washed up on their shores….they would still be happy on their lands and not made to feel like strangers, by the strangers who stole it from them.

Let’s not forget the Aborigines in Australia and New Zealand….right Lawson.

That can still be rectified decades into the future, it’s not too late, it’s never too late to right wrongs..

  25. Hal,
Advise Chad to go to the library and BORROW (he has to take it back) a copy of Capitalism and Slavery, by Eric Williams. Maybe he would begin to understand why we are where we are.

  26. Eric Williams promoted the familiar idea that, by the early 19th century, capitalism was more profitable than slavery, and so it was convenient for the UK to abolish slavery for economic reasons, even though many UK historians have pretended that the main reasons for abolition were humanitarian.

This thesis has been challenged by some US economic historians who have produced numbers to show that, at least in North America, slavery remained highly profitable in the 19th century.

Eric Williams also appeared to believe, on the basis of flimsy evidence, that the Caribbean and the Indian Empire played a key role in financing the UK’s Industrial Revolution. But the evidence shows that is not true.

  27. Well Well,
It has been hundreds of years and it has not been rectified for the Native Indians. As a matter of fact, despite the protestations, protests, and demonstrations made by the native indians, Trump has just APPROVED THE Dakota pipeline construction, and the Keystone Pipeline deal.Riding roughshod over the concerns; legitimate, of these Native Indians. These people just had another election foisted on them, without their participation, opinions or any discussion on their rights. Has any Native Indian, or representatives of their tribes been interviewed on ANY media outlet?

    Lawson, Chad, Simple:
Trump’s father was a Brothel keeper. No wonder Donald has so little respect for women.
