poppyRemembrance Day

Remembrance Day is to remember those fallen or injured as a result of War.   It is held on the day Armistice was signed the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 o’clock. Yet  no Calendar in Barbados shows this day although the Parade is held on the following Sunday.  Very few poppies were seen prior to the parade except those on the Military so why is this not supported or is it just another fund raiser?  I would be interested to know how much money was raised?   The parade is spectacular yet this year there was hardly any room for anyone off the street to watch and I would guess more people in the parade than those watching. As an ex serviceman who came to pay respect to the fallen and injured there was no room for me, the boardwalk is restricted even when it is not being worked on. I was moved on from everywhere I tried to stand including by Chefette and told not to stand on Broad Street. Yes we need security but who is going to attack anyone in Barbados? This wont happen but I suggest the War Memorial is moved somewhere where the parade can be watched by those who wish to participate.  After all the Independence Day Parade is either at the Garrison or the Port. Perhaps the War Memorial could  be moved to the BDF Barracks where security can be managed at the gate and plenty of room for spectators and the parade. Shame on those not buying a poppy.

Memo to Minister Michael Lashley

Potholes Bajan style
Potholes Bajan style

Recently Japan suffered a bit of a pothole measuring 30 metres across and 15 metres deep taking with it utilities like power, water and drainage. All put back to normal in a week. This follows from March when 150 metres of 2 lane road was damaged by a  Tsunami leaving cracks deeper than a  man and it was all back to normal in a week. How long does it take MTW to fill a pothole 30 centimetres wide and 15 centimetres deep?

$240M for GAIA

Interesting that Government can find all this money for GAIA so the question is where is it coming from?   Yet another loan that interest has to be paid on?  Interesting that Mr Sealy says it will provide jobs next year when it starts but who for?  How many Bajans? Interesting also that cost estimates have not been finalised says Mr Sealy and I hope he has learnt a lesson from the Auditor General’s exposure about how so very poorly the whole business of contracts, estimates and unaccounted for costs for Valerie and The Grotto were handled and who was fired as a result.  By the way whatever happened to penalty clauses which should be included in contracts of this nature.

  1. Brain, those who haven’t served haven’t the slightest idea of the sacrifies of those who have and are continuing to serve.

  2. That’s right shame on those not buying poppies to support fat, parasitic, lazy-arse queen elizardbeth as if she doesn’t collect enough blood money from the opium trade nor taxes from her little minions. How about moving Remembrance Day Parade to Brian and Dompey’s Living Room next year? Now wouldn’t that be spectacular with pyrotechnics and all?

  3. There are some comments that best be left unanswered. I personally do not attend Remembrance Parades, as they have become a fashion show and a show parade for politicians and the like. I would find it very hard as a veteran, or as a serving serviceman, to offer up a salute to some of the plebs we see milling around the cenotaph like peacocks.
On Remembrance Day , Veterans are supposed to be the ones who take precedence on the parade, not twats who have never served a single day in the military.

You ought to be shame of yourself for making such an insensitive statement regarding the Remembrance Day Parade. Do you really understand the historical significance of the sacrifies these men and women have made, so that you can get on BU and run yah rasshole mout? Listen! Johnie, freedom isn’t free but some may tend to disagree, but while your were sleeping some man or woman is putting his/her life on the line to ensure you good rest. So every time you attempt to level your criticism of those who have or are serving, remember these young men and women are ensure your good sleep by the sacrifies they’re making by chosing to serve.

And you ought not employ the pseudonym Hopi because the people of this Native American Tribe are brave warriors, and not as cowardice as you are.

  6. @David:

Look what those dogs in the DLP did to my “Emmerton” or allowed to happen.

  7. @ David,
My White Hill, sung to the tune of Gabby’s Emmerton

  8. @Whitehill

It is a sad commentary, very sad. Is this the same road Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner was seen on YouTube pomposetting?

  9. More than likely its the same road that schmuck Irene was pomposetting about, there goes my vote for Adriel in my area…not that I was gonna vote for those fools again.
Didn’t vote for them last time anyway.
I used to work with some Haitians many years ago; listening and hearing of the mess in Haiti I felt smug that I had a Barbados to come back to.
Now, returning to Barbados…I have no White Hill. Wretched DLP bastards!

What is your anticipation/expectation of a human government though? You’re obviously lost in the backwash of disillusionment if you think for one moment that those we elected to govern our affairs are going alway do the right thing in the eyes of the masses? Listen! You weren’t born yesterday, so therefore, it ought, must and should be your expection to hope for the best in terms of human government, but at all times expect the worse. Only a fool trust in a promise as the saying goes, and as the electorate we somehow believe that those who we elected to govern our affairs will all do the right thing in the eyes of the masses. Not so, so stop crying over spilled milk and try to work on those things which will encourage the masses to hold the elected officials answerable for those promises made.

Have seen the way in which Donald Trump was able to rally the collective conscience of the masses? Before Donald Trump, accomplished this immeasurable task, I argued here on BU when Clarke tried to do the same thing that it will take one special individual to aroused the collective-conscience of the nation and rally it into action. Didn’t I not argued this here on BU before Donald Trump accomplished it?

  12. @Dompey…..Who sacrificed their lives so that I can sleep at night? The ‘GODS’ that watch over me ain’t got nothing to do with war and veterans. Why should we celebrate bloodshed to make those bloodsucking bastards in Buckingham palace live kingly? Why can’t they earn their keeps like everyone else? U clearly demonstrate that u haven’t got a clue about history, the hows and they whys of wars. When you can delineate sound knowledge and overstanding about the origins and beneficiaries of war, then you can tell me which pseudonym to use. And try and construct sentences in a language that I can understand without having to re-read.

What is the video above about, that refuses to show?

  14. An issue of concern is the advertising of Black Friday sales in Barbados. What does it say about our level of national pride red patriotism?

Oh Canada. Why did you do this to Barbados ?

  17. Barbadians are very patriotic……………….to the United States of America.
    We madly celebrate Halloween .
In recent weeks, the US presidential election took precedence over all the ills and woes and ineptitude plaguing Barbados.
The Prime Minister’s Dinner and Ball was advertised quoting US Dollars.

Black Friday was bound to follow. Someday we may even adopt Thanksgiving.

The Devil can’t do anything without the consent of God, so what’s your point? And it isn’t any doubt that you’re ignorant of the Hebrew Scripture because throughout the Bible it is clearly documented where God gave the Israelites victory over they enemies in battle.
