We give credit to Barbados Today for highlighting this grave injustice meted out to Kobia Jamal Robinson by Director of Public Prosecutions Charles Leacock. The idea that a person charged with a crime in Barbados has to wait for three years to have their case heard is embarrassing and wrong.  The fact others have had to be on remand for longer than three years confirms what BU has been commenting for several years – see Tales from the Courts.

We have two issues the authorities must resolve with dispatch:

  • A heavy backlog of cases in the Barbados Courts
  • A Director of Public Prosecutions who is unable to ready cases for trial in a timely manner despite the backlog of cases

A reminder to Leacock – JUSTICE delayed is JUSTICE denied!

He is not lazy, per se

If you knew this man you’ll know that he just doesn’t care.

This is standard for all lawyers

    They are trained not to.

That too Pacha. I came in too close contact with Leacock once years ago, made my skin crawl.

I was once at a conference at a hotel where David Simmons, who was still chief justice was one of the featured speaker, again I came in too close contact with him and felt slimy and crawly for the balance of the conference, had to go take a shower.

There is something nasty, slimy and crawly about all of them once they are given the pretentious titles and are funded monthly by taxpayers.

  3. @ Well Well

What is important to him now is getting a knighthood

Being appointed a Supreme Court/ Appellant Judge after retirement in a few years.

You really think a ‘small’ matter involving Kobia Robinson is of any importance, in comparison.

It sounds like you have a crush on DPP? I know from little life experience that any woman who professes to dislike a man actually likes him, and on the other hand, a woman who professes openly to like a man usually ends up friend zoning him.

I did not say I disliked anyone, I said both DPP Leacock and David Simmons made my skin feel crawly, I have sensitive skin, the problem lies with them, not me.

Is the Deputy Director of Prosecution a good man or a bad man? Is he showing preferential treatment towards certain cases, and flexing his power in others or what? I would think that since there is a backlog of court cases across every court in Barbados that the office of the DPP must be carefully examine to determine what is wrong before we throw the sickle in the crutch of Mr. Charles Leacock. I really do not see why the man’s nationality has to be an issue if he is doing shite or doing what is right. If the evidence shows clearly that he is made of the same stuff that makes most politicians in Barbados think they are above the law then it is time to cut down his grass and pull to shite up his roots. Other than that stop talking about the bloody mans nationality. Half of you on here, including me, migrated for a better life and enjoying it. Why the shite should he be subjected to the Guyanese shite talk all the time. If he is shite doer then you know he is firmly established because nothing happens to the high to do shite doers in Barbados. Stuuuuuuuuuupse.

Can you explain for us the difference between a {Bajan] “best and better school” and an [American]] “gifted school” and why [the Bajan] one is folly and the other [American] is not?

  13. @Prodigal Son October 19, 2016 at 11:11 PM “I saw him in the BRA office this morning around 10.30 when he should at his desk.”

A Simple Response: Since BRA’s offices are only open during regular opening hours (approximately 7:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and since taxes cannot be paid except during regular working hours when they is the DPP supposed to pay his taxes. Your concern should be why in 2016 should ANYBODY have to stand in line to pay their taxes. Why can’t we ALL pay online.

@Prodigal Son October 19, 2016 at 11:11 PM “Obviously a man in his position does not join a long line so he was ushered inside to do his business.”

A Simple Response: If he was ushered inside in order to be served quickly so that he could get back to his important job you complain. If he is made to wait in line then you complain that he should be at his desk.

The poor man is damned if he does, and damned if he does not.

Since you Prodigal is an influential BLPite can you tell us what are the BLP’s plans for improving the efficiency of the Barbados Revenue Authority?

Because we are all tired of standing in BRA’s long slow lines.

  14. @Well Well & Consequences October 20, 2016 at 7:12 AM “Dompey…you cannot compare the humongous justice system and population size between NYC and Barbados, NYSTATE has 20 million people.”

The correct comparison would be how many prosecutors does New York have per 100,000 people; and how many prosecutors does Barbados have per 100,000 people.

it may well be that Barbados’ DPP’s office is understaffed.

In maybe that our DPP’s office is much more careful than prosecutors’ offices in New York…so that we do not get the egregious miscarriages of justice such as that cited by Dompey, where a 16 year old was unjustly detained for 3 years, not accused of murder, but accused of stealing a $20 haversack (and who as a result of that TORTURE, including a prolonged of solitary confinement) subsequently committed suicide.

Let she who is without sin cast the first stone.

I do not know the DPP, I’ve never met the man.

  15. Agree with you Simple. Nothing wrong with giving the DPP preferential treatment. Ordinary Bajans on a daily basis receive said preferential service because they are related to BRA employees.

  16. Well Well

Trust me I understand the feminine and masculine polarity quite well, and probably could teach you a thing or two regarding your nature and a thing of which most females are in denial of.

  17. @ The Honourable Blogmaster

One of the things that surfaced conclusively from the IDB Webinar on Crime in the Region is the paucity of data.

I was wondering about the title of this article since i felt that the DPP had been found Guilty like the Minister of Edykashun WeJonesing was found guilty of driving without a license recently. (see IMGUR Image below)

I mean, WITH ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ACCESS TO THE RECORDS OF CASES THAT ARE LANGUISHING IN OUR COURT SYSTEM, surely someone can provide you with “a dump of all of the files” sorry, maybe a file could drop off a truck showing all the files, that are say 10 years old which have not been actioned in our courts.

That would at least be a “begin point” to highlight the status of the cases and of those which cases our DPP has or has not handled expeditiously, “irregardless” (credit Jeff Cumberbatch) of his Nationality.

And befo wunna loose de xenophobia dogs pun de ole man, i wants wunna to know dat i is partial to de dugulas ladies dem so watch wunna step please!!!

  18. Simple Simon

I’ve often heard the agrument that you can compare Barbados to America in anywhere because of the share size of the American population and that of Barbados. But is that argument plausible when examine under the barometer of statistics? quite recently Jamaica considered the most violent society in terms of its murder rate in the western hemisphere, yet Jamaica has a population of 2.8 million people, and America has a population of some 300 million people. is even more shocking with your analysis is the fact that Barbados with a population of some 284,644 people it’s often compared to Jamaica 2.8 billion people.

  19. Well Well & Consequences Avatar
    Well Well & Consequences

Dompey…next you will be telling me what deodorant I wear, without having ever seen me…lol

Simple…the correct comparision would be to compare the rates of homicides per day or per year and the turn over time to understand why 1 DPP with an office staffed by people on a 2×4 island with 275,000 people, am sure there will be more than 10 people in his office, on an island where the homicide rate is more like 2 deaths a month, give or take, cannot prepare and oresent a file in 3 years to start a case.

I never took a bribe in mu life…so I can throw stones all frigging day..lol

There is no comparison to a city with 10 million people on any given day and a homicide rate of …view the map rate and statistics..

    http://ow.ly/LM5z305ntww

Only a nut job would want to compare Barbados to this.

They do no work for their money…the bullshit titles got them steeped in sloth.

  27. @ David

  28. Errol Barrow had a long memory. He did not forget and his famous dictate…the lord gives and the lord takes away….uttered in later years, was actuated in the early 60’s just after the election of ’61.Stoby of the high court and Lopez of the airport apparently did not find comfort in the result of that election.Stuart is no Barrow,so Leacock will continue to approve the arrest and detention and lay false charges against citizens like Philip Nicholls and get away with it.Stuart is no Adams,so don’t expect any action whatsoever in dealing with the disaster that is the DPP office.Stuart is no Bree St John,so Leacock can sleep at night while justice is beyond the reach of the average man in the street.Barbados gone to the dogs under Stuart.
It was so sad to hear the plight of a citizen today on Brasstacks complaining to Dennis Johnson that her cataract surgery has been postponed 3 times without so much as an explanation. If what she said is true it’s another indictment of the folly of spending $7million to feed the fatted calf brigade while citizens are going blind for lack of attention at the QEH.

  29. Gabriel
My younger brother there in Barbados told me that during the recent storm/hurricane Prime Minister Staurt was overseas attending business, but he said those words as though he was missing his father the protector.

And this got me thinking about the Barbadian populace who thinks that government is and should be the solution to all of they problems, but if democracy is to run its course as intended the oversight of government should be at it minimum.

Nevertheless, the attitude of the people of Barbados puts me in the mind of a woman who claims deep down that she cherish her independence and her right to conscience as for as a man is concerned, but what she really and won’t care to admit it the fact that she wants a strong confidence man to lead her, no matter have much she claims she like the nice guy image. Who by the way she view as weak and a big killer of attraction.

And to concluded: the people of Barbados must take the initiative to do more for themselves instead of bitchin and moaning about every little miscalculation on the part of government.

  30. Gabriel what are you doing rather than flapping your gums regarding the incompetency of the ruling government?

Do you not think that there is something you can do rather then running off your grill about the failure of government to address the very important issues which affects the average Barbadian?

Can you at least hold up a sign in Bridgetown to demonstrate your protest against the alleged incompetency, the improprieties and irregularities of the ruling government rather than articulate your protest through the medium of social media? which by the way has fallen on death ears because little has change from the nation’s perspective to demonstrate the dissatifaction with government in terms of collective social protest.

Because let’s face it, one can argue with much confidence that social media has proven to be an ineffective tool to rally the collective conscience of the nation, against some off the alleged Injustices of the ruling Administration because Caswell Franklyn and others continue to bitch on social media weekly, and their efforts have proven ineffective in rallying the collective conscience of the nation against the alleged corruption of the ruling government.

YOU WILL APPRECIATE THIS RARE CASE

EARLIER THIS YEAR A MEDICAL ILLITERATE ON BU OUGHT TO CHALLENGE ME WHEN I POSITED AN OPINION ABOUT TWO CASES OF WOMEN HAVING TO HAVE CAESAREAN SECTIONS AT THE QEH

THERE WAS ANOTHER FEMALE JACKAS THAT JOINED HIM, WHO HAS SINCE DEPARTED WITH HER TAIL BETWEEN HER LEGS

HERE IS AN INTERESTING CASE FROM 4O YEAR AGO CONDUCTED BY ONE OF THE UWI STALWART WHO ESTABLISHED THE UWI OBSTETRICS PROGRAM AT QEH AS REPORTED BY A CLASSMATE ON THE DEATH OF THE DEAR DR/TEACHER

If memory serves me well, it was with XXXXXX that we did a C.section on a young nurse in active but obstructed labour (strong uterine contractions, cervix 3 to 4 cm dilated, but unengaged head) only to find a full term abdominal pregnancy. This was a pre-ultrasound era.Think of it!
A full term ectopic pregnancy in labour. Baby and mom did well….without antiobiotics or methotrexate or any other treatments for the placenta that was left in situ. It was quite the sight: an amnjotic sac in the abdomen with an healthy moving baby. The uterus was a postpartum size (at the umbilicus) and it was actvely contracting with nothing in it and the baby was happily floating around in the amniotic sac above the uterus. Incredible!

Are you a general practitioner or may I ask: in what area of medicine are you specialize? Is this the same case where the court foubn Beacon Insurance to be dishonest. None of these insurance companies have any scruples about lying to the court, lying on the claimants, just lying so as nit to pay compensation.

If there was proper regulation or any regulation of these insurance compsnies in Barbados, they could never create these ongoing delays that results in backlog in the court system, why is a case that was already in court going back there.

The insurance companies never seem to want the cases to end, wasting time and money instead of bringing closure, just like the DPP Leacock and his lazy office, refuse to update and close cases.

    https://nakeddeparture.com/2016/10/19/roger-hill-of-nassco-limited/

Does anyone remember the days about three years ago when I expressed concern about how lawyers in Barbados were treating their clients, how insurance companies were using people on the island to enrich themselves, especially CGI Insurance…without paying out any money to the injured, not even their own policyholders. ..their customers.

I was labelled as hating lawyers, all of them, but it was very clear that there was something fundamentally wrong when the owner of CGI refuses to pay injured people compensation, despite proof of injury, despite liability shown without a doubt.

The destruction of equity in the Transport Board, owned by the state, funded by taxpayers, should have been a huge red flag for the corrupt greedy government ministers and politicians to take the taxpayer cpntract from CGI and Peter Harris, well they will pay the price for their greed and uncaring bighted attitudes toward the majority.

There are 2 blogs now going exposing everything on the island, lawyers are being held up to ridicule by those who employ them, whom they respect and admire, who they disadvantage their own people for, the corruption, thefts, destruction of people’s lives perpetrated by criminals pretending to be business people protected by the government….all exposed and being shared to everyone on the island.

The 2 blogs have been going for days, a cuss out of massive proportions. , it’s all coming straight out of the horses mouth.

Of course you’re trained much better in the British medical system? And that is the primary reason why people from Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and elsewhere in the world, whom are dying off cancer and many life threatening illnesses, come to the sub-standard American Healthcare System for care?
