ahf-curriculum-building-working-group-2-300x169Last night, The African Heritage Foundation (AHF) working group tasked with developing a curriculum acceptable to the Ministry of Education had its first meeting. One of the attendees who runs a small school, Sister Nailah, presented the group with a curriculum guide for Class 3 (for 9-10 year olds). This curriculum guide should be appropriate for the younger child, Isartesibre Sirine, of the Lashley family charged for not registering and sending their children to school. Sister Nailah will work on the curriculum guide for the older child, Ijuijah Sifahne, who is 12, and should have this ready for review by the working group by Tuesday next week. The working group will develop templates for all age groups that will be made available to all who wish to home school their children in the future.

“Although we are now starting on the journey, the impending victory of the Rastafari family against what is unanimously agreed to be a failing education system has triggered a call to action, not only to address this particular situation or even to highlight publically the failing of the existing system, but also to create a system to replace it.”

Tge education system is sick and weak, it’s evident in the behaviors of the many who lack the necessary critical thinking skills to effect positive revolutionary changes. There are enough intelligent people in this movement to get the ball rolling.

  3. THE TEA YOU DRINK

As you take your sip of tea
Whether it be Liptons or Tetley
    Have you ever wonder
    The origin of its flavor
You may not be so alarmed
    ‘cause it came from Assam
Or shocked at this shameful horrible story
Of the Teas of P G Tips, Twinings or Tetley
Grown chiefly near the banks of the Brahmaputra
It’s the largest tea producing plantations of India
In an ideal of 96.8 º (F) temperature
Giving it its malty taste and bright colour

Often sold as sometimes Irish Breakfast Tea
Or Black, or White or Green tea variety
These teas, as shocking as was Slavery
Has oodles of baggages of chicanery

Your tea time may be your bliss
And you may reject tea after this
    From whence it came
    They showed no shame
    If its from India behold
    Its a horrible story untold
If its from the Assam estates of Assam
Where the living condition is a sham
The Giant Assam supply tea to the company
Of PG Tips, Liptons, Twinings and Tetley
The manager described conditions as a No No
And so did Lady Sarah Roberts the big CEO

She said workers conditions as not acceptable
But did nothing which is damn deplorable
What they meant was that the estate
    Of 740 homes couldn’t accommodate
Workers to relieve themselves in 464 toilets
After filling millions of back breaking baskets
Many families when they get the rushes
Just defecate amongst the tea bushes

Sanitation amidst toilets blocked and broken
With over flowing cesspits more than a token

And on some estates even child labour are used.
For managements’ behaviour left workers obtused
So next time when its tea time around four pm
Remember the pickers and the plight of them
Think of where and why it tastes so refreshing
Write to those who are doing your legislating
It isn’t from the fresh air of Assam of the greedy plantation owners
But maybe its from the excreta from the abused wretched workers.
For using child labour being used on someIndian tea plantations

Chad..who copied it from African royalties and families who were also African European royalties, before Albinos took over…dont you know anything, that must be very painful.

  9. It is unfortunate this topic has not attracted good comment given the proactive manner this community has responded to a challenge. This is the value of constructive discussion. To those who complain about the popularity of blogs dealing with US politics here is another opportunity to comment on a local issue.

That can be attributed to fear of change, it’s not easy to attack this thread without a blowback.

I am uncomfortable with faith based schools of any nature.

I have not asked on fb for the curriculum,as I feel it should be posted with this submission for all to view and comment on.

  12. Vincent are they not putting the curriculum together for submission to the ministry? Does the constitution not recognize the right of all Barbadians to align with a religion of choice?

  13. David October 16, 2016 at 9:24 AM #

I am equally entitled by virtue of freedom of expression in our constitution,to express my discomfort.

They said one was completed for 9-10 year olds.

Vincent…be as uncomfortable as you want…the slave system of misinformation and miseducation of young black people will be dismantled in Barbados and throughout the Caribbean this century in your lifetime…embrace it.

  15. Completed but was it accepted by the MOE?

These curricula are targeted for the children of the Raserfari so why should you be discomfited by it?

  16. David October 16, 2016 at 9:32 AM #

I am uncomfortable with all faith based educational systems……is that clear enough.

I see no reason why it cannot be shown, just because the MOE has not decided on it as yet.

  17. If the curricula presented proves the content is adequate to support Rastafari children can constructively function in society what is the problem?

My kids went to faith based private schools in the Barvados and North America, the Ursuline schools are faith based been in Barbados fpr at least 125 years..but…they have to follow ministry of education guidelines and approved curricla.

I attended faith based schools etc.., what I and my children will tell ya.., the religion is shit and shoukd be banned, but the individual attention given to each child is unparalleled. ..smaller class sizes, a better more dysciplined program…all city or ministry approved.

BU checked, the document has to be presented to the Court and approve by the MOE as advised. Only then will it become a public document.

No wonder Barbados is in such dire straits…. this is the backward, useless excuse for a prime minister, a backward leader with a cabinet filled with backward ministers just waiting by their phones for whitevsome crook to call them with the latest scam to rob taxpayer’s and old age pensioners.

None of them are capable of innovative, progressive thinking to enrich the lives of their own people, only what they were taught as slaves they are capable if regurgitating, no forward movement, only stagnation and laziness from lazy leaders.

Fruendel Stuart et al are so backward they don’t know that the more parents who can afford to homeschool their children, have the time to do it the proper way with the ministry smoothing the transition with paper work instead of making it a nerve wracking production for parents because of spite, ignorance and backwardness…..be responsible for adequate socialization of their children…..it lessens the burden on the ministry on the government to provide total funding for education, the responsibilty will lie with the parents…it lessens the burden on taxpayers, it lessens the burden on the treasury…

……why ya think homeschooling has become so popular in North America, online and Europe.

I did not want anyone to say I was insulting the education system as I said, I am not familiar with the public system lower than the 6th form level, only heard some family members before they left in the 80s complain about the cracks that were appearing then in the primary, high and highers school which am told has deteriorated to extreme levels today…they do need to vet and more properly train some of the teachers, some are gems but there are too many riffraff just looking for a monthly salary.

Then there is the jackass prime minister Fruendel with his slave mold acting as though school is a prison, school is supposed to be enjoyable, no regimental dictatorship should be involved outside of discipline, which should be a well thought out form and program., not via the slave whip.

Who wants to take it as an insult, based on a few degrading high schools, who some believe are exceptional, that is their problem, the eduation system is backward and need a drastic and radical uprade as we been saying on here for years before I came along…maybe now it’s been exposed for the world to see, the backward government and ministry officials will believe they have been for decades and still are stagnating generations of their children.

Again dump, upgrade or modify the stupid common entrance exam, in 10 years it will be even more useless.

“So you have a segregated system by assigning the students who have higher test scores to the better performing schools.

“It is an assignment mechanism that maintains inequality, and maintains that performance gap that is observed at the entrance in the [secondary] system,” Alfonso argued.

She said while the Ministry of Education was currently seeking grants and other assistance for the 12 underperforming schools, “there is a lot of work to be done here”.

The IDB official went on to show that the problem was not only one of poor education, but also a lack of preparation for entry into the workforce.

“We’re seeing that students are not necessarily well prepared to support an economy that is based on knowledge and innovation, because most of the [CXC] passes are not done on, for example in science and technology. There is still a large share of students who are doing, for example, electronic document preparation, office administration,” she said.

Alfonso, who has a PhD in Education, also said, based on a 2012 survey, Barbadian employers shared the same complaint as their Latin American counterparts that school leavers lacked necessary soft skills – “the ability to work with other people, the ability to lead, to think critically, to respect authority, to be punctual to work, to be on time for a meeting”.

By the time yall try to play catchup with technology, the world would have moved on to something newer more innovative, leaving you slow learners 50 years behind.

That is what happens when low intellect leaders view every citizen as a vote instead of a potential resource to bring proactive progress to the country.

Your people are your best resource.

  30. This matter of “Education” (and the commensurate test of its Application) has always been an emotive topic.

It has consistently elicited commentary particularly with regard to “education reform” and the non pertinence of our curriculum.

Many rightfully posit that “Nothing has been done to the curriculum since we inherited it from the British in massa’ day” barring of course, the US $236 Million wasted on Edutech, if you can call antiquated computers that enriched Illuminat, “curriculum reform”.

Let us step back for a while with this emotive bullshy##e and logically think through this obvious discrimination against our Rastafarian citizens.

1.What has been the incidence of home teaching in Barbados for the last 25 years?

2.Who have been the beneficiaries of such largesse of the Ministry of Edykashun?

3.What was the curriculum that was used by these people, and would obviously have been approved by the MoE?

4.What were the respective ages of those home taught pupils AND the concomitant certification of those doing siad home teaching?

5.What were the ethnicities, AND the financial standings, of those home instructors who were approved by the MoE for those exercises?

6.What were the results achieved by the persons who were thusly taught?

Please, in answering these questions, commentators are asked to bear in mind that we have the staff of IMart AND Tammy Edwards, the “One Eyebrow Employee”, soon to be journalist at the Nation, to compare and contrast the home taught parties against.

Without baseline data de ole man is afraid dat wunna blowing emotional cold air (is that possible – personification of the inanimus air?) up our collective pooches and that action may be construed as a prelude to kinky sex (of a heterosexual or homosexual nature), intellectually speaking

Let us dispense with the feeling talk and deal with the facts.

“I like the colourful sashes, copied of course from European royal families and militaries.”

    Well spotted, Chad!

But aren’t you being a tad hard on this ‘sect’ of people who fancy themselves as the real “McCoys” when it comes to being the chosen people of Yahweh or Jah?

These people are stricter adherents to the teachings of the Old Testament than even than the false Jew-loving GP or Zoe.

These copycats are doing no more than what Europeans have been doing through the ages.

Where do you think those “European” royal military insignia and protocol come from? The caves of the France or the Black Forest area of Prussia?

Just check out the solar-inscribed medals of the same ‘European’ militaries and royal houses and question their origins. Just as you should question the insignia and dress code of the ‘white’ Masons. Go study some Egyptology at some European museum of stolen artifacts and then get back to us.

But we doubt you would be so intellectually flexible since you are of the unshakeable view that the Nazi symbol of military and cultural dominance, the Swastika, is really “Germanic” in origin.

Piece…the ministry of education should have the homeschooling data you are requesting and it should be PUBLIC knowledge.

Miller.., forgive Chad’s lack of knowledge, eons ago African people controlled Europe, including Germany, they are still finding African bones there from thousands of years ago.

Lack of knowledge is a blight and curse.

    Knowledge will always be power.

Piece….I was told yesterday that you as a parent has to know and be friends with someone in the ministry of education to be fast tracked for any homeschooling application you request, the same incestous, small minded nastiness they refuse to let go..this process of homeschooling children should not devolve into anything incestous, it’s a normal process that just needs the requisite due diligence…..

…….it’s not rocket science and there should be no bribing process.

It appears that there is no hope in trying to upgrade these low mentalities. …50 years and no progress made.
