Extracted from the Facebook timeline of Andrew Simpson. With all the ‘noise’ in our society citizens like Andrew who day in and day out do their part to make Barbados a better place are often not noticed. Here is one project he is working to help a family in dire need. Good job Andrew!

David -Barbados Underground

helpfamilyFacebook and word of mouth appeals for donations toward improving the living conditions of the Selman/Hackett family have been kindly answered by Foster & Ince, workmates at Aqua-loc Corporation, members of The Living Room Church, Envirotech Inc (proceeds from sale of Miracle Mix), family, friends and neighbours. They have been temporarily relocated to more adequate premises and all funds collected to date have been utilized to pay rent and carry out renovations. Furniture, appliances, bedding, etc. donated by a host of caring citizens has been transported by Unique Aluminum and Canvas Awnings Ltd at concessionary prices. Chickmont Foods has issued vouchers for chicken and eggs.

Repairs, including an additional three bedrooms and bathroom are underway. Most materials needed for foundations, timber structure (including partitions) and roofing have been donated by Carter’s General Stores, Ready Block, Superior Lumber, Marshall Trading, Ace H & B, Barbados Lumber Company, Tuleja Lumber, BRC, Builder’s Value Mart and Barbados Steelworks.

Response has been encouraging over the last four weeks, with adequate flow of materials and money, but the project is now at the stage where roofing is being completed and flooring, siding and ceilings are required. “Damaged’ materials have been identified at discounted prices but cash is needed to purchase and install. Then for doors, windows, electrical, plumbing and painting.

Please call 437-8188, e-mail care@caribsurf.com or Facebook Andrew Simpson with any offers of assistance. We need to get the family back in their home by next month.

Thank you Lord for provision, through your saints. Amen.

  1. Good when a society can extend a helping hand without solely relying on govt help.As a country we should follow the golden rule of doing all that is good unto others in the same manner we want the good done to yourself.Hoping that most would answer to the good cause of helping a family in need

That’s what caring people do, not spend the whole day on social media trying to mislead the whole island in yardfowl fashion, spreading inaccurate information, constantly making nuisances of themselves…do something kind to uplift someone, extend a hand…make a difference.

Second WW&C comment. Good to see examples of Bajans looking out for each other.

  4. Now if we would all strenuously commit ourselves to an economic growth agenda, and that would mean welcoming all large tourist hotel projects on offer, there would be less need for charity.

Try not to provide the fuel for those who will quickly seek to highjack the topic and make this about BDLP

The fact is that this initiative for the needy and the Meals on Wheels Pinelands PCW program which fueled the Feed my Sheep confabulation, like many other philanthropic initiatives, are run by genuine charitable and community minded Bajan men and women.

THE MARIA HOLDER organization is another community oriented agency which works tirelessly against all odds to support a sometimes thankless community

Aliko Dagote, Africa s richest black man, struggles to maintain feeding his fraction of the 2 million Africans who will die this year because of hunger.

How is this practicuum of “am I my brother’s keeper” sustained in Barbados ?

And if that hurdle of economic sustainability is maintained how is it fostered and duplicated?

Look how long the Maria Holder buses for the disabled have been detained in the port because of a policy which in the face of obvious charity towards the less fortunate has persisted to punish the Samaritan spirits.

He might not have the credentials of a UNDP but he, and his group, and Pinelands and Dancing Africa are to be commended for doing what they do each day for nothing other that the fact that they feel that it is the right thing to do.

    Commendations to Simpson

  6. more philanthropy should be encouraged in barbados i am amazed at how well planned groups used the media outlet to have telethons to help the less fortunate in larger countries In a small country like barbados the same can be achieved wherby the TV media along with private advertisers give of self in a positive way to generate and be activist in deriving many benefit financially and otherwise for the less fortunate including govt run entities like the QEH by allocating some period of their time once a year to sponsoring telethons which can be streamed via internet to a world wide audience
the Jerry lewis labour day telethon comes to mind which started with a small audience but became a part of every american household annually
why is it not a possibility even on a smaller scale where private and govt and all of society come together once a year for a good cause for a need that might be of concern to a nation

  7. I have never seen the way some people have to live in Barbados it could not happen in Ottawa unless by choice . The govt must not turn a blind eye to the poor or weak.

Lawson…of course the pimps ACs would like nothing better than the population go begging everyone else while the yardfowls, ministers and business bribers freeload from government coffers.., read, the people’s money, people whom they all feel should just be beggers and whom they feel have no entitlement to what is theirs.

Even the IMF is on to the decades of concessions to business people in exchange for bribes to the government ministers scam that is wrecking the country, which leaves the local people and taxpayers completely out of any benefits.

When both governments are elevated to touching distance of tge treasury and pension fund, they believe that ends any responsibility they have to the people or keep any preelection promises they made.

Someone ought to tell the retarded ACs that philanthropy does nio end governments responsibility to the taxpayers re providing adequate housing for the vulnerable voters who elected them.

Right now that is exactly what government is doing “turning a blind eye to the poor and weak”……only facilitating who can pay government ministers bribes, ignoring their duties to provide for the nation and making it extremely difficult for anyone who tries to fill that void of helping the neglected.

  9. This is what love is all about. The early Christian church was a caring church. We need to get back to this kind of love. There are those who have so much yet are unwilling to give. William James said..THOSE WHO LIVE ONLY FOR THEMSELVES EVENTUALLY BECOME OBNOXIOUS TO THEMSELVES. Something our politicians should take note of.

  10. The pecularity and the dire straits of the socio economic environment of this country does not go unnoticed especially when some in society have no qualms on spending lavishly on entertainment items around the crop over period but then expect govt to supply all the necessities that is crtical for the good performance and development of a country progess… in so much as when asked by govt to be benevolent in their contributions in a way that would enhanced the lives of the less fortunate. These lovers of self only contribution is a hue and cry “not me”
Life is not fair but it is incumbent in as much as a duty to be kind and helpful to those among us who cannot help themselves.

Then wouldn’t it be prudent and practocal for government NOT to waste 7 emillion dollars of taxpayer’s money on a whole year of independence, what independence??………. celebrations…….that money could have gone to help the homeless and most vulnerable in the society….instead of being pissed away on the myth of independence.

Yall lying hypocrites and frauds BEG people to spend for cropover…liar.

  12. These situations would occur less frequently if the government was not so corrupt. We are prepared to help the poor who will always be among us but the government is increasing the numbers beyond our capacity to help. As soon as we fix one family there will be two more joining the list.

  13. ministers with yachts

  14. Let’s try again # ministers with yachts raising prices

  15. Well Well & Consequences Avatar
    Well Well & Consequences

These liars would like us to believe that the poor and helpless is the problem or are the ones creating their own problems….it’s the government creating the environment for the homeless problem and the large population of poor in the society, it’s the government corruption causing the problems , it’s the corrupt practices of government ministers causing the problems……it’s the corruption practiced by all involved causing the problems.

That is what corruption breeds…poverty, homelessness, crime.

Neither government can blame the present deteriorating situation on anyone but themselves….decades of their corrupt practices have brought them to this place.

The ministers, politicians and their partners in crime will not be getting off easily.

  16. In most develop countries there are those who prides themselves on givers to the overall development of the country. Most of the time these small and home grown philanthropist start out by giving what little they can afford out of an urgency to give back to a society and not looking towards govt for any form of favour
Along the way the benevolence forms an propels and convict others to do likewise.
This country among many of the Carribbean has pride itself as a Christain country and a Country that has been blessed by God.Therefore on that premise giving back should not be seen as a fovour to govt but an action of helping others to be bless

  17. @AC…..other than long talk and lip service what are you contributing dawling?

  18. Lady i do my part in giving back unlike many here who cherish the memory of taking along with heaping loads of criticism but when ask what can “you” do for country and society. The silence is deafeaning
Once i reached a stage in life were i could give back i gave back with a duty to do so

  21. You’re wellcome David.

AC…u circumvented the question hence the ONLY conclusion is that you are contributing nothing despite ur admonitions of others.”Hoping that most would answer to the good cause of helping a family in need.” Just remember God does see in de dark too ya know.

  22. And to you i say if the cap fits you can wear it ,,Yes God does see all and thank God you are not a GoD
