One of the enduring and unflattering memories of the Stuart led government so far is the matter of the case of Speaker of the House Michael Carrington vs Johns Griffiths [BU High Court 2015]. Carrington was ordered by the Supreme Court of Barbados Justice Cornelius J to pay $200,000 to a former client, seventy year old John Griffiths. These were monies owed to Carrington’s client the proceeds of an estate settlement. In summary: the High Court of Barbados had to issue an order for the Speaker of the House to pay his client.

Eighteen months later the knowledge that Carrington was not disciplined by Prime Minister Stuart  remains a blotch on the type of democracy we practice. Bear in mind in the build up to the 2013 general election Stuart won the matchup against Owen Arthur on the integrity question.

It is the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) leadership who first trumpeted that is committed to building a society. What kind of society can be built if key stakeholders in the DLP by their actions are not committed to the key value of integrity?

In the build up to the 2008 general election another promise was made by the DLP that a code of behaviour guideline for ministers would be implemented. As far as we are aware this is another promise outstanding designed to hold members of the DLP team accountable on the issue of integrity.

Leaders must lead!

The news that Sweden’s youngest ever government minister, Aida Hadzialic, has resigned after being caught driving over the alcoholic limit is interesting. She faces a possible term of up to six months in prison after police detected a blood-alcohol level of 0.2 grams per litre. To put it in perspective the minister admitted to drinking two glasses of wine. It is unfathomable that any minister or public official in Barbados would resign under similar circumstances. BU is aware the legislative framework does not exist in Barbados to scientifically test and prosecute DUI cases.

Hadzialic’s resignation is important to send a message to the electorate that elected officials are prepared to hold themselves accountable. Accountability is not defined only in law Mr. Prime Minister Stuart. Your advice to Carrington to hire a lawyer sent the wrong signal to a society crying out for leadership at this time. There is right and wrong. It was wrong for Carrington to have withheld clients money from seventy year old Griffiths. You missed the opportunity any leader worth his salt would have used to exercise leadership.

Prime Minister Stuart how are you able to stomach Carrington sitting on the Speaker’s Chair in the Lower House after what he did to that old man?

Mia Mottley how are you and your team able to address the Speaker given his indiscretion?

What credibility does Stuart or his ministers have to lecture Barbadians on matters of morality?

    All you have to do to find the crooks in Barbados is to study the land registry , Archives, NHC and UDC , follow the money find ever crook Minster and lawyer in Bim , these 2 crooks are not a lone in what they do and do not,
    Freedom of information and a free press will show all, This is why we dont have these two freedoms in Barbados,

    Another indication that this administration has lost any integrity in governing Barbados.Evrybody know that Akanni is President of the NUPW and Maloney is a has been.How come Byer-Suckoo offers Maloney a place on the Severance Payments Tribunal and the NUPW put forward the current President McDowell’s name.B-S says it’s a clerical error.Maloney claims innocence.Maloney refuse to step down,knowing it’s not his call.
    Reminds me of a cleric awarded an honour that was intended for another.

    In other countries you march for 3 years into jail when you wreck a public project as a minister in charge of the public-private company (which is configured as a private LLC).

    In other countries the DPP brings the president to the criminal court for having received 800 USD for a festivity.

    In Bim you get a medal for that.

    However, what should we expect from ministers with such poor social background and a PM who played around 10 years at university?

    Without transparency and a AG and DPP unwilling to unforce any laws there won´t be any progress in Bim.

    A similar call should also be made for Denis Lowe to resign. Stuart admitted there were procedural mis-steps in the NCC’s retrenchment process, whereby the “last in, first out” protocol was not adhered to, while recently hired individuals from Lowe’s constituency remained employed.

    Against the back-ground of the ERT subsequently ruling in favour of the retrenched former employees, Lowe remains minister and Neblett the general manager of the NCC.

    Another startling situation occurred at the Child Care Board where the admission of negligence on their part, was basically responsible for the death of two children. Under these circumstances, elsewhere the director and board would have resigned, but that is not the case with this administration. Steve Blackett should have done the honourable thing and resigned as well.

    Recently, Denis Kellman admitted he oversaw the recruitment of his nephew’s wife as HR manager of NHC, ahead of the lady who was acting in the position for over a year, after denying nepotism and the newly appointed lady did not have any connections to him. He explained the ERT gave guidelines to such employment when he knew this was not the case. Kellman remains minister of housing.

    Yes, Gabriel is serious………. Walter Maloney was appointed to the Severance Payments Tribunal and was sworn in last Wednesday by GG Belgrave.

    Apparently, the government did not accept the NUPW’s recommendation to appoint Akanni McDowall.

    “Instead, McDowall’s immediate predecessor, Walter Maloney, has been appointed to the panel, in what has been described as an unusual occurrence. Attempts by the union executive to get Maloney to resign have failed so far, and the NUPW has written to the Ministry of Labour asking that the decision to appoint him be rescinded.” [Nation News, August 14, 2016]

    I said it before and I’ll say it again. Thanks to BU for their effort in letting intelligent Bajans know about the fraudsters, dishonest lawyers business men and downright thieves in what used to be our distinguished Parliament that is in dire need of cleansing and filling Dodds. But the Police and the DPP will not take any action to go that course. Hang there BU.

    This nonsense comes to an end when Barbadians wake up and decide that we’ve had enough.The blatant practice of nepotism we just saw at NHC is nothing new, and the fact that it will die a natural death is also nothing new. Did you hear the voices that called brass tacks to register disdain for Dean Del Mastro? These are the same people who had no problem with government doing business with Jonathan Danos, who by the way has more serious convictions. That at every turn now one can hear a minister on the radio when since 2013 they treated Barbadians so contemptuously tells me that they do what they do because they can. WE LIKE IT SO!

    “Explaining her decision to quit, the Social Democrat told reporters: “I choose to do this because I believe what I have done is that serious.”

    You have to be raised with a certain level of morals, maturity and an acute understanding of right from wrong to acknowledge your mistakes. You have to be trained in and practice certain levels of ethics and integrity to rise above the level to which government ministers and politicians in Barbados wallow.

    None of them are morally or ethically capable of doing better.

    You seem to be correct that we Bajans “like is so” but my question to you is this, what else other than vote them all out, can we do?

    The only real option that we, the people, have is to contest it in a court of law, like David Come Sing a Song I.e. to bring a case against the government (and hope that you get a date during your lifetime) vote them out, FOR ANOTHER LOT OF DISHONEST CROOKS, or talk/write bout in on the call in shows or on Barbados Underground.

    What else other than civil dissent?

    The fact however is that they are on TV and radio every day is evidence of three things.

    Elections are near.

    They are in beggar mode “please vote me back in”

    And we the people are going to vote every one of their asses out.

    EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!

    Normal people DO NOT STAND STILL WHILE BEING BULLED….

    Brass bowls, however have adopted the ability to ‘take it -“like a man”….” and await a safe time to clean up…..
    Brass bowls ask ‘What can we do…except wait until they come…?”

    @ piece… What I would like is to see the trade union movement in Barbados come together and bring this administration to it’s knees.There is enough evidence to support the fact that these heifers do not keep their word and should no longer be trusted.The luxury of a tranquil work environment should no longer be extended.They should be forced to go to the polls.

    There are two considerations per that suggestion.

    The trade unions, barring Caswell Franklyn s Unity Workers Union, are completely compromised since their respective leadership are in bed with the same corrupt administrations.

    For you to understand unity and what mass suffering does to the psyche of a people you must understand The Montgomery Boycott.

    Over one year of walking and communal taxis, the precedent of Uber, without the internet.

    That is unity.

    But the thing about this Hamilton is that we as a people are both internally, within our nigger race, and externally, within our national psyche and sense of national unity, divided.

    I guess the thing that best describes this is the phenomenon that is the church in Barbados.

    Every Sunday they meet and sing lustily and, like David Durant, Apostle of …, go back on Monday to prostitute himself for the following six days, then do the cycle once more until we have become Pavlovs dog, conditioned to this norm

    This action in appointing Maloney over McDowell speaks volumes indeed. Even if you believe Akanni is an idiot he is the idiot that the union members chose. How does that make him any different to the idiots the general electorate chose? What makes him any less fit to serve in that forum than that female idiot rejected by the electorate but chosen by the elected idiots?

    Nobody trusts anybody these days. Unity will therefore be difficult to accomplish. I have been saying for a while that I don’t see Barbados getting any better until it gets soooo bad that we have no choice but to act. Once the majority can survive there will be no uprising. This is going to be a long process.

    This has NOTHING to do with unity. It has to do with INTEGRITY. …personal integrity.
    There is no need to have thousands of others at your side in order to STAND UP FOR RIGHT.
    In Sodom and Gomorrah, just 10 righteous persons would have made a difference, but no doubt the ‘Piece’ of that city was awaiting some show of ‘unity…’

    Assurances from public officials are a comfort for a fool. These people are mostly selfish and greedy and what’s more damaging- so shortsighted that they are likely to forget that their own children may visit an area where a problem may occur. They may simply think – ” We don’t live there so it can’t affect us”. Meanwhile little Johnny sneaks out and visits his girlfriend in the area every night and partakes of the poisoned offerings.

    Barbados Water Authority is advertising for a General Manager,Directors of Finance,Projects and Engineering and a Manager of Internal Audit.Shall we look forward to improved water supply and management of this precious commodity and should the long suffering people of St Joseph,St Andrew and parts of St Lucy,St Thomas and St James dare hope for a better flow to their homes?

    Freundel Stuart will not only go down in history as the worst PM Barbados ever had but that he presided over the most corrupt cabinet ever. He sleeps while they do as they like, he wakes up to hear from his security that there is another scandal………. he rolls back over and goes right back to sleep. He could not care less once he is PM.

    Who would think that a person of no less stature than a PM could advise a man who has been exposed as a crook to get a lawyer………………..a man who is the Speaker of the House………a place held in high esteem…………. Who would believe that he advised him not to resign but to get a lawyer. The man brought the House into disgrace. Shameful.

    How much longer can we endure these scandals and just carry on as if we are a banana republic?

    Last week, it was the canadian criminals and the blatant nepotism by the clown from St Lucy. He not only is involved in nepotism but lies.

    Now we have the poster girl involved in lies. She is so incompetent that she did not even understand the gravity of what she did. It is no administration error that Walter Maloney was appointed to a board to which he has no business being on. He is so arrogant and so much wants to stick it to Akani that he deliberately went in a hurry to Government House and got sworn in.

    The dems chickens will come home to roost one day!

    Froon was presumably voted in again not because of what he can do but rather who he cannot control and who can run the show from the side lines unimpeded. Take a look at Lowe, Chrissey, Kelly, Mikey from the east just to name a few. He is not capable of doing the right thing and pulling them back further more stopping them and let’s not forget who his busom buddies are.
