rihannaOne has to admire Rihanna’s Tenacity to Work hard to reach her level of achievement demonstrating to all that just a kid from St. Michael willing to use her Talents and Abilities can achieve what she has put their mind to. Rihanna through her Drive and Determination is in a position where she can give a hand up, ‘not a hand out’ to assist others through her scholarship fund and other benevolent causes from her own pocket, not someone else’s. Her Motto is Work, Work, and Work. Another local example of a Work, Work, and Work entrepreneur is Mark Maloney who lately is getting some stick. Do not glorify one and disparage other local entrepreneurs like Bjerkham, Bizzy & COW Williams. They are many others not singled out but a select few?

The Government in Barbados is grossly oversized employing 20% of the workforce. That is a tremendous burden on the taxpayer. I would prefer to see more people in Barbados work less for the Government. I want them to have the rewards of their own industry. This is the chief meaning of freedom. “A man’s right to work as he will, to spend what he earns, to own his own property, to have the state as servant and not as master, they are the essence of a free economy, and on that freedom all our freedoms depend”. Margaret Thatcher.

Russian born novelist’s, Ayn Rand’s, intellectual assault against the Marxists of her day who diminish the worth of Individual Freedom, she argues in character: “But you say that [wealth] is made by the strong at the expense of the weak? What strength do you mean? It is not the strength of guns or muscles. Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think. Then is [wealth] made by the man who invents a motor at the expense of those who did not invent it? Is [wealth] made by the intelligent at the expense of the fools? By the able at the expense of the incompetent? By the ambitious at the expense of the lazy? [Wealth] is made — before it can be looted or mooched — by the effort of every honest man, each to the extent of his ability. An honest man is one who knows that he can’t consume more than he has produced” (See: Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand, 1957.) “In other words, wealth comes at nobody’s expense but the inventor, the free thinker, the one actually taking the risk and making the sacrifice. It never costs anything to anybody else. There is no expense incurred to those who sit by the sidelines. Therefore, it cannot ever be considered ‘theft” from others who were never involved nor invested in the very process. It costs others nothing!”

How is Free Enterprise “Capitalism” better than Socialism?

The essential nature of Free Enterprise Capitalism is social harmony through the pursuit of self-interest. Under Capitalism, the individual’s pursuit of his own economic self-interest simultaneously benefits the economic self-interests of all others. In allowing each individual to act unhampered by government regulations, Capitalism causes wealth to be created in the most efficient manner possible which ultimately raises the standard of living, increases the economic opportunities, and makes available an ever growing supply of products for everyone. The free-market operates in such a way so that as one man creates more wealth for himself, he simultaneously creates more wealth and opportunities for everyone else, which means that as the rich become richer, the poor become richer. It must be understood that Capitalism serves the economic self-interests of all, including the Non-Capitalists. “And even if we were all magically made equal in wealth tonight, we’d be unequal in the morning because some of us would spend it and some of us would save it”. Lawrence Reed.

clip_image004

Contrary to widely held beliefs, capitalism is not a system which exploits a large portion of society for the sake of a small minority of wealthy capitalists. Ironically, it is actually socialism that causes the systematic exploitation of labor. Since the socialist state holds a universal monopoly on labor and production, no economic incentive exists for the socialist state to provide anything more than minimum physical subsistence for the workers except to perhaps prevent riots or revolutions. Exploitation is inherent to the nature of socialism because individuals cannot live for their own sake, rather, they exist merely as means to whatever ends the socialist rulers—the self-proclaimed spokesman of “society,” may have in mind.”

Bringing this reality of full Blown Socialism close to home are our neighbors in Venezuela and the ills they are suffering with corruption on every level by their elected officials. The Government controls the largest known oil reserves in the world, yet the Country is Broke. They also control through compulsory means the food distribution system, yet there is little food and people scavenge to survive. There is diminutive water and energy shortages, not even to speak about basic commodities and medical supplies and needed medications! Yet they blame America for all their tribulations, it is never their fault! Want to guess who the richest person in Venezuela is! None other than Hugo Chavez’s daughter.

clip_image008

Any country on earth is capable of creating the like, watch the trend or patterns evolving you only need to follow the path to Venezuela. Attack property rights and Trade, Pillage the Rich, abolish the Price System, Jail Dissenters, crush the opposition, and dismantle the System of National Liberty. This is Socialism; it is a path to Hell on Earth. How many steps are we in Barbados away from this Peril? We sure are on a downward slope.

What is the Solution?

Free Enterprise (Capitalism) leads to Prosperity and Freedom while Socialism leads to Poverty and Bondage! Capitalism doesn’t come with a warranty or “money back” guarantee. Yet, it encourages individuality, creativity, opportunity, risk taking, ambition, pride, dignity, and a sense of accomplishment, promotion, and provision. As much as Socialist professes their disdain for capitalism, they’ve yet to offer a better system. The reason is simple; it doesn’t exist.

Capitalism is a made up word by Communist to describe “Free Enterprise and the use of Capital”. Free Enterprise, for it to be Free, must be Free of all encumbrances that will control it. Crony Capitalism, uses the word Capitalism in an effort to change the language from the word Free-remembering Capitalism = Free Enterprise. What we have pre-existing in the world is not Free Enterprise; Crony Capitalism is an attempt to label the System of Free Enterprise by regulating it until it is no longer Free. Free Enterprise (Capitalism) = Free Markets

Cronyism is where big business and governments collude to give special favours to those entities to the exclusion of the ordinary person. Crony Capitalism is an attempt to label the System of Free Enterprise by regulating it until it is no longer Free.

Four Reasons the Left Should Love Capitalism But…

blackcommunitynews.com/four-reasons-the-left-should-love… Click on link to open

Capitalism has a new competitor, and its name is “shame.” The left is determined to make capitalism morally reprehensible. Cloaked in provocative terms like “income inequality,” wealth redistribution has become the popular economic philosophy in the world today, but it doesn’t hold a candle to capital…

clip_image010

There is Free Marker Enterprise (Capitalism) and Crony- Capitalism.

Free Enterprise is not regulated by Endless Burdensome Regulations, brought about by Socialist Communism resulting in Crony- Capitalism! The law in a free society is only used for the protection of person and property—you cannot use the law as a tool for force and theft of property and labour, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE INTENTION—this economic ideology of a “fair share” of another’s labour is the foundation for Fascism, Nazism, Socialism, and Communism. Using government to “help” individuals is NOT liberalism, it is at one level or another—only and ALWAYS Collectivism.

Are you tired of being Robbed?

clip_image012

A Capitalist Society is a just society because all individuals are considered equal under the law. Capitalism recognizes that it is just for a man to keep what he has earned and that it is unjust for a man, or group of men, to have the right to what other people have earned. Since all people must live independently under Capitalism, all of the material values that a person acquires must be earned. Thus, the expression of social justice under Capitalism is that what a man earns is directly proportional to what he produces, no progressive income taxes stifling his achievement for the sole fact the he did achieve. All other forms of government, such as the welfare state, institutionalize injustice by legally expropriating the property of some men and giving it to others.

clip_image014

Many people have trouble accepting that Capitalism is a just system because of the existence of economic inequality. It is observed that famous celebrities and sports stars have very large incomes for work that is perceived as trivial, and that many hard working people make incomes which pale in comparison for jobs that are perceived to be a greater benefit to society. What people must realize is that it is perfectly just for a superstar (like Rihanna), even if they have little or no education, to make a hundred times the income of a scientist who has a Ph.D. and works much longer and strenuous hours. Why? Because they create enormous profits through ticket sales and product endorsements, whereas the scientist generates very little revenue through his research. That is, each of them deserves what they earn, and what they earn is the result of how much wealth each of them creates (Incidentally, this is not to say that the Celebs and Artiste are morally superior to the scientist because they are wealthier). Since each man has the right to the product of his labor, it is completely just for the disparity in incomes to exist, and the only injustice to occur would be or the government to take money from the athlete and give it to those who supposedly deserve it on the basis of their “need.”

What is a Capitalist?

From a purely economic point of view, a capitalist is a person who buys in order to sell for profit. However, the productive role that capitalists and businessman serve cannot be overstated.

Far from being exploiters, the true function of capitalists and businessmen “… is to raise the productivity, and thus the real wages, of manual labor by means of creating, coordinating, and improving the efficiency of the division of labor.” By continuously improving the efficiency of labor, Capitalists and businessmen are responsible for raising wages and creating employment which serve to raise the standard of living of everyone. Furthermore, by funding research and capital investments, corporations and capitalists make possible all of the modern day conveniences, from laser surgery to orchestra halls that most people take for granted every day. In fact, since capitalists make available so much life-saving and labor-saving technology to so many people, they should be regarded as some of mankind’s greatest benefactors. A few capitalists and businessmen have done more to help mankind live a more enjoyable life in a more fundamental sense, a capitalist is anyone (from a janitor to a millionaire) who lives solely by his own effort and who respects the rights of others. The best symbol of a capitalist is the trader. That is, the man or woman who only deals with other people on a voluntary basis. A capitalist is neither an “exploiter” nor necessarily a “greedy” individual.

What is the Role of Government in a Capitalist Society?

The only purpose of Government would be to protect its citizens from force or fraud.

Any other function of government than those listed above, no matter what its intentions, would necessitate the violation of rights by initiating the use of force against the people it is supposed to protect. Taxation is not Voluntary it is taken by Force.

“There are two and only two ways that any economy can be organized. One is by freedom and voluntary choice—the way of the market. The other is by force and dictation—the way of the State…
The State obtains its revenue by coercion, by threatening dire penalties should the income not be forthcoming. That coercion is known as “taxation,” although in less regularized epochs it was often known as “tribute…
Taxation is theft, purely and simply even though it is theft on a grand and colossal scale which no acknowledged criminals could hope to match. It is a compulsory seizure of the property of the State’s inhabitants, or subjects.”

What Percentage of Your Income Equates To Serfdom

90%? 80%? 50%?

We must be able to have a System of Governance that allows Free Market Enterprise without all the burdensome regulations and heavy Taxations.

“Free-market Capitalism is a network of free and voluntary exchanges in which producers work, produce, and exchange their products for the products of others through prices voluntarily arrived at….
Man has rights because they are natural rights. They are grounded in the nature of man: the individual’s capacity for conscious choice, the necessity for him to use his mind and energy to adopt goals and values, to find out about the world, to pursue his ends in order to survive and prosper, his capacity and need to communicate and interact with other human beings and to participate in the division of labor”…

“With these fundamentals now on the table, we may now keenly understand what American Spectator’s author J.T. Young succinctly points out:

“The left’s inherent challenge is justifying their claim to what others own.” Hence they launch divisive disinformation campaigns pitting one against another, calling whatever they can’t control ‘unfair and undemocratic.’

(See: Understanding the Left’s Demands on What Others Own, T.J. Young, The American Spectator, March 2013).

“And they do this by hypocritically indicting Free Enterprise (Capitalism) or laissez faire economics as criminal. They claim that such a system is entirely unfair, wherein Government interference is kept at a minimum and free trade is generally allowed to be unregulated between individuals. They accuse such unrestrained Liberty as being the means by which the wholesale “theft” from society takes place. This gives them reason to limit personal freedom and aggressively denigrate the Liberties of personal initiative and creativity.

Under the rubric of “You didn’t build that!” they feverishly claim that Society creates wealth, not individuals. Persisting in their lie, they insist that entrepreneurs are just those that steal or pirate the wealth rightfully belonging to others. According to their entrenched purview, everything that individuals may create or produce only occurs because of the governing that has made the means of wealth possible. They erroneously claim that every activity yielding a prosperous outcome belongs rightfully to everybody else.

And thus their redistribution of wealth becomes the final arbitrator of fairness. In their view, no matter the individual endeavour, means or investment applied no one has the right to ownership of anything that somebody else does not have. Thus according to this half-baked paradigm, Marxist-Utopists hate Free-Enterprise Capitalism because it violates their sense of entitlement (‘fairness’ to them), accusing Capitalists of the three infamies they find most unforgiving. Namely, (1) the inequality of personal outcome which is derived from the interaction between (2) Free-Market economics and (3) personal independence, all of which they claim invariably leads to the greed and self-centeredness of materialism.

Thus they invalidate the most fundamental rights of man, the rights of ownership and personal property.” Correctly countering this selective perception, Russian born novelist Ayn Rand argued that, “Just as man can’t exist without his body, so no rights can exist without the right to translate one’s rights into reality — to think, to work and to keep the results — which means: the right of property…. Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights [and the Bill of Rights particularly] is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities…and the smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights, cannot claim to be defenders of minorities.” (See: The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand, 1943)

Don’t be fooled by the words “Socialism” and “Communism”. Once you come to understand what they mean in terms of economic freedom you will understand that they are anything but social, and have nothing to do with community. They simply mean the “centralization of power in the hands of the people that make up the government in the hands of the master class”. They are nothing but euphemisms for “Slavery”.

What is the Opposite of Capitalism?

Statism, in any form!

Statism is the concentration of power in the state at the expense of individual freedom. Capitalism is the only system which protects individual rights and freedom, but the variety of political systems which violate individual freedom are numerous: Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Nazism, absolute Monarchies, Military Dictatorships, Theocracies, or the Welfare State are all systems which infringe upon individual rights, which means they institutionalize the initiation of force against their citizens.

It must be realized that there are only two fundamental political philosophies: those who are for freedom and individual rights and those who are against them. The types of political systems who are against freedom and individual rights are numerous, for there are many ways to violate the rights of man, but there is only one political-economic philosophy which upholds that the rights of man are absolute and immutable—Capitalism.

Perhaps you are being unnecessarily prolix and evasive to respond to BU’s concern. We will have vulnerable people in our society, man is not perfect. The challenge is to maintain a relevant balance between unfettered free market and a social program. Do not become steeped in theory read man made constructs.

  2. I try to avoid a discussion of socialism and capitalism, for I am aware that my knowledge on these matters is limited. But having lived in the heart of a capitalist nation has given me some knowledge of what capitalism is.

It is amazing to see how the discussion of capitalism and socialism is often framed in the battle of good versus evil; and the worst current manifestation of each ideology is used as the example; thus Venezuela is used as a model of a socialist state. I believe the author destroys his own argument by pointing out that Hugo Chavez’s daughter is the richest person in Venezuela; since the adhesion/attraction of money and our political leaders and money is due to more to corruption than to nature laws (magnetism) or any kind of political ideology.

I may be wading in waters that may be too deep for me; but how can I allow someone to come here and rattle off about free market capitalism and not describe the ills that come with it. This rattling may be due to a failure of our educational system; we read, memorize and regurgitate. Allow me to steal and mangle a phrase I saw this morning – sometimes when we think we are giving chocolate we may be sharing be nothing more than a pile of shiite…

I could write on the ills of capitalism (not what I read in a library, but what I observed and lived), but let me hit you with a few buzz words as reading this foolishness has sapped my energy and I no longer enjoy it… crony capitalism, trickle down economy, concentration of wealth in the hands of the few, the shrinking middle class, the increase in poverty, etc. In fact some would argue that “free market capitalism” is not practiced anywhere on planet earth.

    Yawn

  3. *the adhesion/attraction of money and our political leaders is more due to corruption than to nature laws (magnetism) or any kind of political ideology.

  4. @ David

What I have been saying and to answer your question directly…you seem concerned and rightfully so for the welfare of other people and we all should exercise our caring nature, which is being Charitable. A group of people getting together to assist others that is also charity, as above all, the true meaning of Charity is Pure Love that translates to benevolence.

However abdicating our responsibility as an individual means that we prefer and want someone else to do that for us i.e., like the Government. That way instead of us donating our time, efforts and material possessions of which a 100% of which we donate will go to benefit those in need, when Government intervenes less than a 1/3 of what is designated reaches the unfortunate. The rest is tied up in paying Big Government.

That is why I said at the start of this Article that I would like to see more Barbadians working for themselves rather than working for Government which puts a great burden on the Society and that way they should be able to reap the rewards of their own industry and help others where needed out of their own pockets like Rihanna with a hand up not a hand out. That is the Spirit of Entrepreneurship that is True Freedom of Economics and of the Individual.

You may ask ‘What is Economic Justice’?
    You Work,
    You Earn,
    You Get Paid,
You get to keep what is yours. That is Economic justice.

Taking from someone else, that is Robbery…
Freedom is not a man-made construct, all other Creeds are!

  5. @Freedom Crier

The important point you need to consider is that the government is not some amorphous entity, it is the people, we pay taxes to support the kind of society we want to promote.

  6. “EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE STATE. THEY FORGET THAT THE STATE LIVE AT THE EXPENSE OF EVERYONE”

  7. ‘WHEN PLUNDER BECOMES A WAY OF LIFE FOR MEN IN A SOCIETY, OVER THE COURSE OF TIME, THEY CREATE FOR THEMSELVES A LEGAL SYSTEM WHICH AUTHORIZES IT AND A MORAL CODE THAT GLORIFIES IT.”

  8. “A GOVERNMENT WHICH LAYS TAXES ON THE PEOPLE NOT REQUIRED BY URGENT PUBLIC NECESSITY AND SOUND POLICY IS NOT A PROTECTOR OF LIBERTY, BUT AN INSTRUMENT OF TYRANNY. IT CONDEMNS THE CITIZEN TO SERVITUDE”..

  9. “No person has a “right” to the fruits of labor created by another.

There is no such thing as a “fair share” of someone else’s labor. You do not have a “right” to use the power of numbers to impose upon others, YOUR personal consequences, YOUR personal needs, YOUR personal pursuits, YOUR personal beliefs, and YOUR personal responsibilities.

ANYTHING that government provides to society, which administers to personal needs, equals slave labor. ANY government benefit, government program, and government entitlement represents coerced labor. Using government as a way to force others to collectively labor for the personal needs of society will always be slavery.

Being inclusive by stealing everyone’s labor and then supposedly sharing it with everyone does not “change” collectivism and slavery into liberalism and “democracy”.

  10. “If you wish to control your own body, your own choices and your own responsibilities so that you may own yourself…YOU CANNOT agree to impose POLITICALLY upon yourself and upon others ANY taxation which services personal need through Government—whether it is Health Care, Religious Obligations, Charity, Jobs, Child Care, Housing, Social Security, or ANY personal responsibility, personal belief, and or personal consequence created by PERSONAL ACTIONS and PERSONAL CHOICES.

YOU CANNOT “Live and Let Live” if you impose obligations of monies upon the shoulders of other individuals who may have different beliefs, actions, pursuits and abilities than you.

Collective Responsibilities through government for personal needs will ONLY ensure a people who make personal actions and personal beliefs public property—and then, all these personal actions, beliefs, and consequences from choices will be OWNED by the whole of society, socially “dividing” citizens…. while politically corrupting voters and politicians who will use political power to impose their personal beliefs upon others…

Politicians will continue to battle for power OVER each other citizen because millions have willingly transferred power over themselves to government.

ONLY Individualism secures Liberty, because it is backed up by being individually responsible for oneself”.

  11. Collectivism is a system that values the group more than the individual. Under this system, a ruling authority arbitrarily sets common Moral, Social, and Economic aims and, to achieve those aims, dictates the standards and rules by which individuals live and work.

Collectivist Creed is often promoted in terms of idolized outcomes: Social justice, Security, and Economic Equality. Achieving these outcomes, however, requires the destruction of Western Civilization’s tradition of human and Economic Freedom. For a Collectivist system to ‘succeed’, individuals must forfeit the inalienable right to Life and Liberty, including the freedom to pursue their economic interest.

Progressivism, Socialism, Statism, Social- Welfare, Fascism, Communism, Totalitarianism, Nazism, and Marxism are various forms of Collectivism, and are all Tyrannies Against The Individual.

  12. When a people centralize their health care, their child care, their education, their personal consequences, their charitable causes, their wages, their unions, their wealth, their choices, their beliefs, their food, their water, their transportation, and their pursuits within the sphere of governmental management—-those people are no longer free—they are slaves—owned by the whole—a uniformly bound herd of thoughtless, emotional, and degraded people who have willingly given up the responsibilities that freedom demands for the peaceful solitude of a worry-free safety zone within the mindless world of servitude…living “equally” as slaves–“sacrificed”–“progressively”– one group after the other until ALL have been coerced, bribed, and lured onto the government plantation where everyone must “sacrifice” conscience, labor, actions, pursuits, property, their self-respect, and their personal independence…”Fair Shared” into being owned and controlled by Master’s in government…”

  13. Angela June 30, 2016 at 9:01 AM #

“One of the best articles I have read on the BU in a long time”.

Thanks Angela I am happy that you are one of the few that get it, right down to the feelings in your gut. Have you noticed most of the regular contributors on BU are SILENT when it comes to debating the content of this Article? Hmmmm! If it was not for the injection of fresh blood on BU, this Article would have been Dumb Down into file 13 as a lost cause instead of a “Beacon on a Hill”.

You would be surprised how quickly the ideologists of collectivism retreat when they encounter a confident adversary. Their case rests on appealing to human confusion, envy, racism, ignorance, dishonesty, cowardice, despair, and divisiveness.

Take the side they dare not approach; appeal to human intelligence.

Barbadians can either continue to ignore the fact that collectivism is utterly corrupt from the ground up, and thus continue down the road to statism and tyranny—or we can look at reality, use our minds, acknowledge the absurdities of collectivism and the atrocities that follow from it, and shout the truth from the rooftops and across the Internet.

  14. I am silent because your article is like others which have been published lately. Unworthy of comment.

  15. Freedom for whom, I wonder.

  16. “There is no such thing as a fair share of somebody else’s labour. ” Quite true. Unfortunately we in Barbados have a legacy bequeathed to us by those who seized ALL of somebody else labour. And they never returned it. This has created a society where the descendants of these thieves are welding power over those whose ancestors had their labour stolen. Before we talk about unfettered capitalism we would first have to level the playing field to ensure that equal opportunity is afforded to all. How about that?

  17. @ Donna

Much appreciated Donna, as pertaining to the playing field, we all look through lenses that are not always clear, however when we know History we should not be dammed to repeat it. You are a believer as I understand and should be more discerning. I am sure if you read the Article and some of the comments with a “Open Mind to Learn”, you would have grasped more.

When you refer to the ancestor’s labor being stolen and never returned, I hope you are including the first slaves who were in Barbados 200 years before the Africans arrived. We who were born on this gemstone have all been chiseled from the same rock of oppression. Many in Barbados have risen above the tides of opposition using their God given gifts and abilities to make away for themselves including Rhianna whose descendants are from the first stock to which I referred.

Barbadians have been given the opportunity to be well educated. Some have used their creative skills in the field of the Arts and other areas to excel, which I am very happy to see. The Spirit of Entrepreneurship that is True Freedom of the Individual, it resides within us all.

Basically anyone trying to use the talents God has given will be given more, remember the story of the Talents in the Scriptures? Remember also what happened to the one who did not use theirs. It was given to those who multiplied theirs through the sweat of their brow not the other way around. What we do with what we have been given is up to the individual, not someone else!

You see the thing about it is that slavery in no form weather Black, White, Pink or Blue is not justified as it takes away the Free Agency of an individual bequeathed to them by their Creator, therefore it is Anti Christ. Truly as it is written, “The kingdom of heaven is within”. The light of Christ dwells within us and influences us all to reach our highest potential as we heed its direction when it inspires our conscience. That is the Spirit of Liberty and Freedom bequeathed to us at birth to guide us through this world, “For where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty. 2 Corinthians 3: 17.

We need to be aware of the Spirit of Divisiveness and realize there is only “One Race, The Human Race”. And if we think to rationalize that, remember the first line in the Lord’s Prayer, “Our” Father Who Art In Heaven”. We are all brothers and sisters. Racism is the Adversary’s tool that divides us. Rise above the tide and recognize the Culprit!

  20. Here is an article Freedom Crier asked to share.

Rendering Unto Caesar: Was Jesus A Socialist?

Was Jesus of Nazareth a socialist? Lawrence W. Reed says no.

For more information on Reed’s article below: …

“Regardless of your religious beliefs, Larry Reed proves it takes a wild leap of imagination to view Jesus as a Progressive Socialist. This is a critically important issue because secular Progressives would like to control the moral high ground by capturing religion to support their elitist, statist ideology, which would allow them to do even more damage to genuine human flourishing.” — John A. Allison, Former President and CEO, Cato Institute, Former Chairman and CEO, BB&T Corporation

Rendering Unto Caesar: Was Jesus a Socialist?

On June 16, 1992, London’s Daily Telegraph reported this astonishingly bold remark by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev: "Jesus was the first socialist, the first to seek a better life for mankind."

Perhaps we should cut Gorbachev some slack here. A man who climbed his way to the top of a stridently atheist empire with a sorry track record on human rights was probably not a Bible scholar. But surely he knew that if socialism is nothing more than the seeking of "a better life for mankind," then Jesus could hardly have been its first advocate; he would, in fact, be just one of several billion of them.

You don’t have to be a Christian to appreciate the errors in the Gorbachev canard. You can be a person of any faith or no faith at all. You just have to appreciate facts, history, and logic. You can even be a socialist — but one with open eyes — and realize that Jesus wasn’t in your camp.

Let’s first define the term socialism, which the Gorbachev comment only obfuscates. Socialism isn’t happy thoughts, nebulous fantasies, mere good intentions, or children sharing their Halloween candy with one another. In a modern political, economic, and social context, socialism isn’t voluntary like the Girl Scouts. Its central characteristic is the concentration of power to forcibly achieve one or more (or usually all) of these purposes: central planning of the economy, government ownership of property, and the redistribution of wealth. No amount of "we do it all for you" or "it’s for your own good" or "we’re helping people" rhetoric can erase that. What makes socialism socialism is the fact that you can’t opt out, a point eloquently made here by David Boaz of the Cato Institute:

One difference between libertarianism [a personal choice and liberty-based system] and socialism is that a socialist society can’t tolerate groups of people practicing freedom, but a libertarian society can comfortably allow people to choose voluntary socialism. If a group of people — even a very large group — wanted to purchase land and own it in common, they would be free to do so. The libertarian legal order would require only that no one be coerced into joining or giving up his property.

The capitalists need numbers. The capitalist are the same persons who manipulate economies and currencies to wage economic warfare against competiton (be it socialists, communists or other capitalist or all others). They also use military might to pillage others’ resources in order to prop up their capitalist markets to quench their insatiable appetites. Capitalism is the mother of exploitation. In order for them to keep this capitalists bs up they must continue to exploit others as well as the resources of this planet.

Libya was socialist (Ghadaffi shared that nation’s wealth with the people) but the capitalists didn’t like that so they invaded and pillaged.

The decision to change Libya was made by Obama and Hilary C! These “leaders” are NOT Capitalists, they are Socialists, bureaucratic, back dominant Govt etc, neither would be voted into membership in any Capitalist Club! Taking out the Reformed Gadafi was a DUMB concept probably pushed by Hilary, the WORST Sec of State in History! Proof that Hil should NEVER be Pres!!!!!

Capitalism is NOT the problem, BUT some so called Capitalists are exceedingly GREEDY and will stop at nothing to achieve great wealth, especially by BUYING the Politicians like Hilary is paid for by Wall St. Some Capitalists like Stronach in Canada migrated with nothing formed a carparts company, Magna, and in 40 yrs has created 120,000+ well paying JOBS! What is wrong with that???????? Governments will never create anything like Magna, Govt/ Pols WILL end up mashing up any country with “looosey goosey” giveaways, relentlessly to LazyAsses that have absolutely no intention of doing their part in growing the Nation.

  22. Freedom for whom Crier

You flatter yourself if you think your submissions bear “knowledge” which I have never heard and dismissed before. Delusions of grandeur I would suggest. Now where did that assumption come from, I wonder! You may indeed have something to teach me (though not on this subject) but I would also suggest that I have something to teach you. Accept that and I’ll listen some more. Learning is always a two-way street.

Why hello, Moneybrain! Fancy meeting YOU here!

  23. Never type at three in the morning. That should be “wielding power” not welding.

  24. Donna wrote,
This has created a society where the descendants of these thieves are welding power over those whose ancestors had their labour stolen. Before we talk about unfettered capitalism we would first have to level the playing field to ensure that equal opportunity is afforded to all. How about that?

Sounds great but it does not survive intelligent, realistic scrutiny. The people voted in the, since 2008, have received OPPRESSION from their very own!!! Very SAD but TRUE! However, this is what happens because HUMANS breed a sub specie that dont give a RODENTS RECTUM for anyone but themselves, it has nothing to do with RACE!

  25. The Gospel according to Moneybrain. But intelligent scrutiny shows that the puppet masters are the ones to attack. Do you want to hear the story of a previously honest minister who got corrupted by the puppet masters.

After a meeting which involved the businessman and the minister, the minister realized that the businessman had left his briefcase. The minister called him back for the briefcase.

” No, that isn’t mine. That is yours!” said the businessman.

After the businessman left the minister opened the briefcase. Inside was more money than the minister had ever seen in his life. Though he had not asked for a bribe, seeing all that money, he was just too weak to return it. Hearing about money is one thing but seeing it is another. The minister has been hooked since then. Perfect move by the puppet master.

True, all races have their greedy ones but I am dealing with our situation here where because of the distinction of colour their are clear advantages and disadvantages. This is the overarching problem. That is the problem we must deal with first. Taking down the big whitey should be the priority. Then we could fight with the other nuisances of all races.

  26. @ Money Brain July 3, 2016 at 11:06 AM #

In regard to your comment…Please understand the Difference between Free-Market Enterprise (Capitalism) and Cronyism… what you describe as “Capitalism is the mother of exploitation”, is “Cronyism” in action.

  27. @silence is connset
Thanks. But I am still as confused about socialism and captitalism after your contribution.

Money Brain (when notfocused on Hilary) makes the best aregument for capitalism that I see posted here; and thatr is because he has the guts to admit that there are some illls in capitalism.

Free market capitalism is not practiced anywhere on planet earth.

  28. *consent (apologies)

Just remembered my vow…. no exchanges on BU

  29. @Donna

Donna “Taking down the big whitey should be the priority”.

Who are you referring to as the big whitey? They are many ideologies and groups of people that that shouldn’t exert the power and control that they have, so who are you referring to?

  30. I’m guessing people like you.

  31. Exactly, Gazer! It isn’t and will never be practised anywhere. In the bastion of capitalism big business lobbyists and campaign contributors make sure that things stay just the way they like them. Free market capitalism and all the others are just ideals which will never be achieved because of man’s nature. Unfair advantage will always be sought and achieved. Some regulation will always be necessary and provision made for the vulnerable or else it will simply be survival of the fittest. And for children that would mean the fittest parents. We just have to try continuously to strike a balance between freedom and regulation. That balance will never be attained but we must strive to keep the scale from dipping too far either side.

  32. @ Donna

SOCIALISM IS THE PROBLEM; IT IS ABOUT ECONOMIC CANNIBALISM AND EVERY OTHER FACET IT INFLUENCES. IT IS A SYSTEM IMPLODING ON ITSELF; IT IS A SLOW PROCESS OF ROT, IT IS A GODLESS CONSPIRACY THAT SEEKS THE DESTRUCTION OF US ALL.

By refusing to come to terms with Rational Thinking, along certain lines, example, Racism and Socialism and by only Rehashing the Same Old, Same Old including your Relentless efforts at Perpetuating Racism while in addition dismissing the Root Cause of Socialism as the Problem! Do you not understand Whose Hand it is that you are Upholding?? Either You Disbelieve or You Have A Mission!!

  33. Donna,
the big Whitey was created in Bim by the EXTORTIONIST Blackey! My family were in business in Bim from the 1930s and never paid bribes to Pols. Until the 1970/80s came along with the Customs Officers permitted to extort the Business men at the Port (Extort business people NOT based on Race but CASH) Then the Trinis came here and demanded that BRIBES be paid!
Then the Pols who were/ are elected by the people to SERVE the People decided to SERVE themselves in a major way. Businessmen were the victims who had no choice but to PAY UP or your goods ROT in the Port AND those in Construction HAD/ HAVE to PAY at least a 10% “Commission” for Project approval. I was told that first by a Trini who had family in that Govt.

This problem has everything to do with large quantities of CASH!!!! Remember the Pols have a DUTY to the Populace, Businessmen DONT, they are NOT elected to SERVE! I agree that Businessmen should attempt to conduct themselves professionally, ethically, etc however if you have 500 employees, U have a duty to try to keep them employed and therefore paying a Bribe to keep your employees off the breadline becomes an easy decision.

Too many pun here love to play the race card BUT which Whiteys were behind CLICO in TT or Bim????????????????????

Racists may argue that most of the known crooks were Brown so it was the White blood that Corrupted them? Somewhat ridiculous is it not?

  34. Freedom Crier,
Check yourself, I did not bring this up.

  35. Gazer,
Like I frequently state, INCENTIVE based is what works BUT I am not against properly run Socialist efforts that are Effective and Efficiently Managed to help the populace in terms of Education, Hlth Care etc. Socialism as practiced in the US, Canada and Western Europe is not managed correctly as it encourages LazyAsses who deserve help but NOT relentless cash payouts without having to develop themselves and become somewhat self sufficient.

  36. Donna, I agree that some Businessmen are Corrupt, certainly the Senior Wall St crowd who OWN those in Washington, especially Hilary who must never be Pres of the USA, even crazyass Trump is worth a try before her!

    “Freedom Crier,

    @ Monet Brain

My Apologies Money Brain, I realize now you were quoting Hopi.

  38. What Is Wrong With A “Little” Socialism? Tell me where in the world is any country practicing Socialism doing well?

Socialism in any form is not good, is tempting to say that, in like fashion, just a little bit of theft or a little bit of cancer is all right, too!

    Socialism Is Socialism.

There are different Degrees of Socialism, but it is All Socialism with guaranteed results of failure. People Voting-in this System of Governance is willful suicide. Socialism is when you are forced to take money from yourself and give it to a Bureaucracy who promises to give you back a little if ya lucky! However I do not believe in Luck, I believe in making Correct Choices and allowing the consequences to follow!

We must be able to have a System of Governance that allows Free Market Enterprise without all the burdensome regulations and heavy taxation’s.

History proves that the growth of the welfare state is difficult to check before it comes to its full flower of dictatorship. But let us hope that this time around, the trend can be reversed. If not then we will see the inevitability of complete socialism, probably within our lifetime…If we live and work so as to enjoy the approbation of Divine Providence, we cannot fail. Without that help we cannot long endure. Ezra Taft Benson, The Proper Role Of Government. (1968)

May God help us All, look how far we have fallen since his admonition in 1968… my only intention is to share my understanding of the reality of what is ensuing under Socialist Governments that is in opposition to Freedom!

  39. People do not understand the Root System of Socialism. Socialism has many disguises, i.e. Communism, Nazism, Fascism, Marxism Leftism, Crony Capitalism and Progressive ism, et al, only different varieties of the same thing. Leftist Socialism is a very Slow Process of Rot and yes it has been around for generations, its all part of the same Tree and root system and its Ideology is a Godless Conspiracy. It has the same outcome, IE, creating Elitist where certain people are favored and benefited. Names only change to suit the times, all Ism’s under the influence of the Adversary, who was a Liar from the beginning of time…

“The Foundation For ALL Tyrannies Is The Removal Of Free Agency”. The means to accomplish this has always been Big Government that takes from everyone to create a system that the Elitist controls. This is in direct opposition to Free Enterprise that is not shackled by burdensome regulation. Socialism is against the natural of order of how we live and trade as a free people as was envisioned in the American Constitution, Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness and the protection of Property! That is the natural order of God anything else is an Abrogation. Both Communism and Socialism is Stateism that seeks Power and Control to take away Freedom and benefits only the Elitist!

  40. “Since all persons seek well-being and perfection, would not a condition of justice be sufficient to cause the greatest efforts toward progress, and the greatest possible equality that is compatible with individual responsibility? Would not this be in accord with the concept of individual responsibility which God has willed in order that mankind may have the choice between vice and virtue, and the resulting punishment and reward?

But the politician never gives this a thought. His mind turns to organizations, combinations, and arrangements — legal or apparently legal. He attempts to remedy the evil by increasing and perpetuating the very thing that caused the evil in the first place: legal plunder.”

    The Law 1850
    Claude Frédéric Bastiat

  41. “….we may explain Success mainly by one word and that word is WORK! WORK!! WORK!!! WORK!!!! Not transient and fitful effort, but patient, enduring, honest, unremitting and indefatigable work into which the whole heart is put, and which, in both temporal and spiritual affairs, is the true miracle worker. Everyone may avail himself of this marvelous power, if he will. There is no royal road to perfection.”

  43. “Government programs didn’t arise because the people demanded them or because the Free Market was unable to provide needed services. They arose because Politicians found them to be a Convenient way to Buy Votes with other people’s money, a Convenient way to Enlarge their own Power, a Convenient way to Reward their own Political Cronies and a Convenient way Keep People dependent on Government”.

“How to Create a Communist State by Saul Alinsky …

Saul Alinsky … There are 8 levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a communist state.

Does any of this sound Familiar as to what we are presently witnessing in The United States under this present Administration?

The first is the most important.

    1) Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people

    2) Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

    3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

    4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.

    5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income)

    6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – takecontrol of what children learn in school.

    7) Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools

    8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

  46. “I have talked face-to-face with the godless Communist leaders. It may surprise you to learn that I was host to Mr. Khrushchev for a half day, when he visited the United States. Not that I’m proud of it – I opposed his coming then and I still feel it was a mistake to welcome this atheistic murderer as a state visitor. But according to President Eisenhower, Khrushchev had expressed a desire to learn something of American agriculture and after seeing Russian agriculture I can understand why.

As we talked face-to-face, he indicated that my grandchildren would live under Communism. After assuring him that I expected to do all in my power to assure that his, and all other grandchildren, would live under freedom, he arrogantly declared, in substance: You Americans are so gullible. No you won’t accept Communism outright, but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you’ll finally wake up and you find you already have Communism. We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you fall like over-ripe fruit into our hands.

And they are ahead of schedule in their devilish scheme.”
“Our Immediate Responsibility” Ezra Taft Benson

  47. “[Wickedness] is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world.” (Ezra Taft Benson, I Testify, Conference, October 1988).
