millennials1Have a look at this 2:17 minute video where a Millennial goes postal on her generation. Members of the older generation will agree with her view. Some will dismiss her ‘rant’ as the usual tension between generations. The flipside is that there is the danger of dismissing legitimate concerns by the millennial by dumping it all in one bucket.

That’s the legacy left to the current and future generations by the past and present generations…everyone wanted the best for their children devoid of character building, there is more than enough blame to go around.

Americans believe themselves to be the most entitled people on earth, so they are birthing entitlements only…..but these entitlements have access to guns, are loaded for bear and shooting to kill….other humans.

Ya reap what you sow, so they are reaping the whirlwind and it’s spreading like a cancer.

  2. This does not apply to Barbados, it is the 45>65 yes old that holding us back.

  3. We need to understand the disconnect between the young and the old in Barbados. We need to have a national discussion.

David, tangential to the matter of discussions between young and old I wonder why you do not reflect on the passing of Bajans who are ‘prominent stalwarts’ in the society but not in the political limelight.

It dawned on me that we rightly highlighted the death of Mohammad Ali but no mention was made of a local man who in many regards fought many excellent bouts for local medicine and understanding of diabetes and other illnesses, Dr Oscar Jordan..

Not suggesting a blog for every well-known or outstanding person. Of course not. But in the vein of your lawyers in the news.

An ongoing list of persons like a Dr Jordan (with a decent brief write-up) which should actually serve many useful purposes for millennials and others to see that in fact the world of hard work, stress, not being appreciated for your skills and effort as a young adult et al did not start some time in the 1980s.

    Just a quick thought.

The other thing is that you certainly have your net-recipe well brewed as often searchs for certain Bajan info will return your site at the top of list – that in fact was how I first got introduced to BU.

So after you build up your ‘Passing Parade’ section you may have amateur historians directed here first on their research efforts. Then they may return and you boost your audience. More Traffic/business. That’s always a good bottom line reason. LOLLL.

BU is open to posting if you or anyone is a volunteer.

Agree Dr Jordan did good work.

    @Ready Done
You tired of butting your head against the wall?
Bim has literally no VC [Venture Capital] market, but they have people, even older than 65 with pot loads of money, who cannot find an investment.
Possibly you need to learn to think how they think? Learn how to present business ideas as they WANT them presented.
Your idea is not dissimilar to Solar water heating, the difference is it requires work. You don’t plonk something on your land [roof] and let the sun do its job. The “work” component limits your market.
Possibly the future lies in more commercial production? With sugar dying, there are limitless amounts of land available. But somebody has to approach those landowners with a concept which makes financial sense to them?
And you may be possibly unaware that many of these lands have pre-dug wells, they don’t depend on the BWA for water, they pump their own.
Food production is an area with much scope, one needs an approach which makes financial sense to investors.

Northern…for some reason, the politicians do not want the country to be self-suffient with food,…read kickbacks for allowing expensive garbage to be imported for the populstion’s consumption.

They pay lipservice to agriculture, while the food import bill continues to climb. They make sure farmers fail, no different to the crop thieves and monkeys….a drtriment to agriculture.

Do not hold your breath, many people just don’t bother.

    @WWC
We can choose to blame politicans for plenty but this is not one of them.
Now maybe as it has been rumoured over the years, certain holders of contracts which permit duty free entry of goods, import beyond the needs of those programmes and that ends up of grocery shelves.
You can grow and sell to your hearts delight. And there are many vegetables not native to Bim, like many of the various “choys” which are easy to grow.

    Not a problem David.

I am sure there are others on this site who know Dr. Jordan much better than I do (as I do not know him a t-all) but as I offered the thought I will do the research and send you the note under email cover and you can take it from there and incorporate details from others etc etc.

Your site is an interesting one so the more ‘data’ you host the more interesting it becomes I would expect.

    By weekend…

  10. It is a shame the views of this millennial has not tickled the fancy of BU commenters. A useful exercise in a working democracy is to discuss and transfer information from the elders to the yuts to facilitate a wholesome society.

  11. Thank U well said millennials
However the comment on entitlement bodes well for this generation as well as the older generation so much so that John F Kennedy was once propelled to tell his generation”ask not what your country can do for You but what You can do for your country”maybe it was the same sense of entilement which he observed during his presidency a entitlement which has been passed on from generation to generation . An entiltlement which touches a raw nerve if ask to give back. And entilment so prevalent and requested by all rather young or old rich or poor. Does any one ever stop and wonder how and if ever these entitlements would end and who would pay for them. All of what she says is absolutely correct.Hopefully more of us would see the light as it only takes a ripple to form a wave

  12. This girl is right on the money but I am looking at it from an old mans point of view. To her peers she may be a heretic and should be burned at the stake. I believe they do have a sense of entitlement missed out on what we would call achievement but they have lost out in other ways. Every time some guy tries to get a leg over it is hot news for his girlfriends blasted all over the net, . , their lives are an open book through social media and nobody wants to look lame so they seem to compete with the beibers and kardashians to be the most outrages which is what passes for normal today . This girl is a breath of fresh air but unfortunately the flood gates are opened.

Mr Blogmaster the young lady has articulated the issues of her generation well but without putting to broad a point on the matter, did we not essentially talk those generational issues when we discussed boys on the block and guns everywhere and when we explored the music industry of the yuts.

As much as all that she said on the downside is accurate we sometimes forget that the founders of Facebook and Google and Alibaba in China and other interesting new tech companies and innovative developments that are expanding our abilities faster than expected are also millennials.

Every generation will produce it’s youthful laggards and although this generation seems to surpass exponentially the stupidity we and others did in times past they also have several others who reached tremendous heights much faster that their Baby Boomer or Gen X peers.

Flip some of those faults she identified and you have some endearing attributes. Being constantly online becomes a craving for data and information leading to finding solutions for better apps and algorithms for data collation/editing/manipulation.

That rudeness and impenitence becomes a driven, focus to get results quicker and find better solutions. So they start more companies, take more risks and try different things.

I am personally not in the least put out or discombobulated by millennials and their faults because there are too many doing great things.

And re Kim Kardashian, I’ll say this I always found ladies ike Diana Ross and Marilyn Monroe absolutely enthralling as a stupid lil teenager. This millennial has taken what those ladies did and what others like Gabor and Raquel Welch did and exploded it to the moon.

We can diss her as much as we like but those ladies did the same thing then and she is doing it times better now.

Can we really say only bad things about this generation!!!

  14. but can we say that this generation can or will be remembered for anything of real significance, one would find it very hard to pinpoint any greatness or contributions that this generation has in any way shape or form added to making this world a better place . The culture of me and irresponsibly would hoover over this generation like a dark cloud for many years to come
