“I know they are all crooks. I am not defending them ALL. My beef is with Barbadians who focus on ONE individual; an “employee” : whether you want to admit it or not, without attaching any; or little, blame to the main perpetrator; Lawrence Duprey and CL Financial. However you cut it the Trinidad connection has to be involved in any settlement.QWe Bajans would carry any other Bajan to the gallows, rather than attach blame where it is due. We wantt to crucify Parris, bury him and seal the tomb, rather than involve all the others who are also to blame; Thornhill, Duprey, the whole Board etc. My point being that Parris; not blameless, should not be singled out. ALL are involved.”

    No, no, Alvin!
Far from crucifying Greenverbs we ought to regale him as Le Roi, King over the Bajan Brass Bowls.

I have always argued that Greenverbs Parris is the smartest Bajan that ever lived; far smarter than Granville aka Cephus whom the Mighty Sparrow wrote a calypso about.

How could a man with a simple elementary school education be that good as to have 3 prime ministers in his pockets exchanging them like marbles from one red pocket to the other blue and yellow?

How could the same former pond grass picker from the Lemon Arbour plantation gang co-opt some of the so-called brightest professionally-trained minds to sit on executive/ management boards to swindle Bajans who fancy themselves as some of the most sophisticatedly educated people in the world and certainly in the Caribbean especially when compared to those so-called small-islanders and ingrunt ‘Jamacies’?

The man has to be naturally gifted and blessed with immeasurably estimable ‘wisdom’ from above as stated by Lord Fumble.

What the intellectually sluggish guy from St. John lacks in Freundel-like magniloquence and sesquipedalian Fumbling he certainly makes up for with his skilful schemes of fraud and control of both men and mice.

He even has the God-horse of the fraternity of licensed crooks and liars as his chief legal advisor and gopher.
Look, the man is so well ‘protected’ he is even above the Law and is able with impunity to park his laundry machine right in the main vault at the Central Bank and not a boy or tax girl can touch it.

He is One Smart Johnny who will not die at any DLP door.

Lol….Miller, and Alvin so admires the crook Parris, pretending he does not know that money left in banks and not claimed is eschewed to the state, then goes into the central bank.

Parris’ stolen money was thrown out of the bank…because, it’s stolen Clico’s policyholders money, the bank knows it, that’s why they got rid of it, Alvin knows it, Fruendel knows it, the government knows it, the central bank governor knows it and they still allowed Parris to park the stolen millions, at the central bank no less.

Yet he wants Duprey to get blamed for what Parris and Thompon stole in Barbados from Clico policyholders, no amount of bad french can justify that type of theft and money laundering.

  3. Dem fellas cant be crooked BUT if dem swallow a nail dem excrete a SCREW!

  4. Well Well,
I know my French is bad.My teachers at Combermere I am sure are having a great time laughing, but it has been a long time. Have not practiced it since high school days. No problem
Because I contend that ALL who Sold EFPAs are involved in the CLICo mess, and maintain that Duprey is also culpable, while Bajans are ONLY concerned with the malfeasance of a fellow BAJAN,you are of the opinion that I am condoning said malfeasance? Don’t forget BAICO was also part of the portfolio of CL Financiasl. What about those policy holders. BAICO was not part of the portfolio of CLICO, it was part of the portfolio of CL financial also.CLICo, the parent company, was bigger than CLICO holdings and other sub companies under Parris’ control. CL Financial controlled the entire CLICO portfolio. The Trinidad Board of CL Financial controlled everything. I will keep on pointing this out. And;Ms legal beagle, allegations are without merit in a court of law. Everything MUST be proven, beyond a reasonable doubt. Everything against Parris up to now are mere allegations. (Nothing to do with his personality or manner of running the corporation)Things have to be proven. No court case so far has happened.

” while Bajans are ONLY concerned with the malfeasance of a fellow BAJAN,you are of the opinion that I am condoning said malfeasance? ”

Yes Alvin, it’s called condoning because you fail to acknowledge that the “malfeasance” committed by Thompson and Parris re stealing policyholders money affected policyholders in Barbados and is still doing so, had those two not stolen money from Clico, Duprey would have been the only named thief, along with some TT executives and Trinidad gov would have to pay bajan policyholders their money.

The elderly invested their money with Clico to fund the education of their children and grandchildren as well as their retirement, Thompson and Parris stole that away from them and the likes of you and Dumbville Inniss would act like it’s no big thing and the fault of the Clico victims. Many will die and dont receive their money because of their ages, but that is exactly what you Fruendel, Parris and Inniss want happen..cannot describe that behavior as nothing less than beastly.

BTW… you have no excuse for bad french seeing that Quebec is yeah close to Toronto….et vous pourriez très bien entretenu pratiquer simplement en passant quelques mois à Montréal . Québécois est le plus proche , vous arriverez à parlant français parfait .

    No excuse at all.

  6. Alvin
I don’t normally respond to your repeatedly biased contributions on BU,however I would point you to a speech made by your late and revered political leader, the one who said he would not lie, cheat or steal and by the record he has been found guilty on all three measures, the late DT.He made the point in the Honourable House that Clico Barbados was not connected to Clico Trinidad and further he made a taxpayers contribution of 10 million dollars to the Clico kitty.By the way,the leper Parris has been quartered and drawn in the court of public opinion and is an outcast of the worst kind.He has for company the likes of Carrington the scamp of a speaker who had to be ordered to hand over what amounted to stolen funds, the property of a wheelchair bound senior citizen. In some jurisdictions, they would both be in an orange jump suits along with Denis Lowe.
I ask you Alvin to point the Bajan taxpayer to one new project of a developmental nature that has been brought on board by this 8 year old administration.

  7. I trust that Alvin makes $$$$$$ or something from backing these STINKING corrupt Pols, who regularly mash up the people of Bim without any conscience whatsoever. The Dippa and cammie mussee spinning like torpedoes in their graves and probably will brek out onto Brandons beach soon!!!!

And what sickens people to their stomachs is that Alvin and the yardfowls, Fruendel, Parris, Inniss etc all watch with delight while policyholders suffer for lack of their money, for who can work, lack of jobs or very low paying jobs available presently…..while they all wait, like Michael Carrington did with the senior citizen in the wheelchair he stole from, for all the policyholders to die, so that they are never repaid.

Did I mention that all the rifraff leaders on the island and their yardfowls need psychological intervention, normal people do not act like that toward each other, particularly toward the population, who pay their salaries.

  10. Meanwhile the Trinidad Guardian published today the following article on the status of Clico there. It makes for interesting reading and may give an inkling why Duprey wants to regain control.

Bajans now have to beware that Fruendel d8nt get it in his headvto post Leroy Parris at the helm of the newly renamed Clico, when it happens, these demons only care for each other and what they can achieve for self, policyholders obviously never factor in to these plans.

BTW…Trinidad made an effort to pay CL/Clico policyholders. …what is taking Barbados government so long to do the right thing and do the same for Barbados pokicyholders.,

  12. Gabriel:
Most interesting..”Clico posts performance after pressure: Healthy $5b 2014 profit.”
The article also mentioned that the T&T government had purchased 49% of CL Financial. Since there is no mention of the liquidation of CLICO and its separation from CL financial, that effectively means that the Trinidad government owns CLICo as part of its portfolio. In other words. CLICO is still a viable company. Well Well, does this not present a dilemma for the government of Barbados? CLICO is a private company. The government of Barbados cannot legitimately take over a company without the necessary court authorization. And now that the trinidad government is involved as a shareholder what is the position?Has the matter of CLICO Holdings and other CLICO subsidiaries gone to court? And you talk about me being blinded? Or don’t you think there should be processes to give order and direction to these matters?
And you people still refuse to hold other companies; insurance and otherwise who have collapsed with loss of investors’ money, accountable for the loss of these funds.
    Money B,
How much do YOU make having backed the BLP foe so long? As one of the moneyed class in Bim, you feel quite safe, and have been fortunate in your privilege. I don’t have to obtain, or expect money for my expression of opinions from anyone. I have said it constantly, and will continue to say it; I think independently, and write what I believe.Despite youth obvious biases. Did you write this same drivel when Trade Confirmers collapsed? Did you express these same opinions when Narsham and other Insurance companies collapsed and people lost money? What about the Central Foundry? What about the sellout, and sell off of BS&T? What about the wanton wastage of valuable plantation lands that are allowed to revert to bush and Shak Shak trees? What is so special about CLICO; so different from the others? Because Parris is involved? I have a friend whose mother paid money for years to BAICO toward her funeral expenses. She died and her daughter has not been able to get one cent from that company.
So don’t try castigating me about CLICO.

  13. Alvin,
I dont back B or D, Democrips or Repubbloods–they are far too many CORRUPT BASTARDS in Politics and Business too! Indeed Humans are far too often of the same ilk! I am very SKEPTICAL of those that support and run around with the Party fellas.

I dont live in Bim and have not in 35 yrs. When I returned to Bdos from Uni I never asked Daddy for help, while he was successful he had never been a Bridgetown Club etc type but one who worked his ass off to progress. He detested the Yacht Club set! I got off my behind and walked out my resume to many companies and actually got my first job with a NON Bajan owned company.

What privilege? Doing well and obtaining entrance to HC? Working hard for the 2.3 years I worked in Bim?

Where did I castigate U about CLICO?

Alvin, U like to support a party that has performed very poorly, WHY?

I have very directly castigated and lambasted Wall St, Big Banks and Washington DC criminals.

I dont write drivel BUT have always warned anyone who will listen to be very careful dealing with any organisations that offers interest rates very much higher than the Big Banks in their country. I guarantee every one that this is the GREATEST RISK in investing and MORE $$$$$ have been lost permanently as a result of this mistake than any other.

Why are Plantation lands sitting idle? Why dont agriculturalist want to produce in Bim? Seen black agriculturalists cry about 2 major problems:

1 larceny by black people mainly

    2 monkeys destroying crops.

  14. MoneyBrain,

Don’t let Alvin bother you! He lost his credibility a long time ago. Nobody listens to what he says.

  15. Donna, are U suggesting that Alvin is a plant in here for the Democrips?

  16. I don’t know about that but he just defends everything this government does. EVERYTHING. It’s as though he is sitting in the House of Parliament. Seems to me they MUST be wrong at some point in time being human and all. That for me makes everything he says questionable.

  17. Well Well & Consequences Avatar
    Well Well & Consequences

Alvin…you do realize that all these failures and collapses from Trade Confirmers to Narsham to Clico ALL happened under the watch of both DBLP government ministers, who not only rubbed shoulders with the thieves, granted them concessions but absolutely refuses, up to this day, to regulate rigidly any of the companies or lock up any of the thieves, including the present day thieves….and companies who are well known, by the same ministers and MPs to be fraudulent insurance companies, etc.

What does that say about the leadership qualities of all the ministers and MPs in both political parties.

Real leaders do not allow this to happen to the electorate, real leaders put an end to it…not collude with it.

  18. 19. @Donna and MoneyBrain.
Money brain, you left the island 35 years ago; you worked here a period of less than three years ago. How many times in the interim between then and now have you returned to the island? how much have you contributed to the growth of the country? What have you done to impact the country in a positive way? Are you still s Bajan? I know you can’t have your citizenship taken away, but how much do you love Barbados? Do you plan to do anything; apart from criticize, yto help the country. At least I visit and stay many months of each year, drawing on my pensions from my other home to support the local economy. What have yo done or are doing for your country.
Plantation lands lying idle…You make the specious argument; common to plantation owners that “local blacks” and monkeys (didn’t a plantation owner once shoot a little black boy, and his lawyer (Grantley Adams) argued successfully, that the plantation owner thought it was a monkey, I don’t buy that excuse. When a plantation has hundreds of acres planted in a crop, how much can be stolen? How much can be stolen from a plantation with forty or fifty acres planted in potatoes, or even sugar? The returns even with theft would be much more than what it is getting presently by having it overgrown in Bush!

Donna, when I observe the shenanigans going on between the teachers’ unions and their behaviour, do you expect me to be on their side? Never. I went to school here, so I know what the society produces and expects. With the Alexandra saga, everybody was ready to crucify the government and Mr. Broomes. The government; acting like Solomon, solved that problem, Mr. Broomes has now retired, but the unions have only escalated their intransigence. If I feel the government is right I will defend them. If you feel they are wrong You will say so.
Do I condemn you for having a different opinion? I respect you for your opinions, but your ilk feel that because I differ I should be castigated? Why? In the last election 78 thousand people voted for the DLP. 74 thousand voted for the BLP. That means there were over 4 thousand people who differed with the opinions of the BLP supporters. Are you condemning those 4 thousand differing opinions? They just see things differently, that is all. That is the meaning of Democracy.

    Well, Donna and Moneybrain.

I refer you all to the English, Daily Express of Thursday April 28. On page thirteen there is a story of the collapse of a company in the U.K. called BHS. As the report says:
“The failure of BHS is a shocking tale of Modern business practice and how some grow rich while their companies are driven into the ground, taking in this case, the jobs of 11,000 employees with it, along with the financial prospects of 20,000pensioners.” That is a story that should be read by all; especially those who think that this thing (the CLICO affair) is a rare occurrence, limited to our shores. This story should be read and digested by everyone on BU, especially since it points out that the “taxpayers would be liable for BHS’s 571 million pounds pension fund deficit.”
As I said, constantly, I am not condoning any malfeasance, but if the action is not illegal, the perpetrators can only be subject to moral condemnation. Until charges are successfully brought words are all that can be used; legally.

  20. Well Well,
Are you saying that David Cameron is not a real leader? he allowed BHS to collapse? And he is not the only leader in whose constituency (country) this happens. Look at Brazil, look at Argentina who a few years ago defaulted many times, look at Venezuela, whose people have to line u and buy food from Black marketers. The whole world is a mess. Why lose sleep over it. As long as man exists these things will continue.
Stop castigating our Black politicians for things over which they have no control.

  21. I join David in calling for whistleblowers legislation. That might mitigate these unfortunate occurrences.Lowly accounts staff know about these suspect transactions and the higher echelons of staff should know such transactions are a threat to their job security and all those who depend upon them for support.

  22. Speaking of Whistleblowers legislation this article in today’s UK Guardian suggests the role of the legal profession and the media is not to be relied upon to do the right thing in these shady matters. Both entities have their skeletons to protect and hide from publicity.

Alvin….someone at BHS will more likely than not go to prison for the collapse can you say the same for Clico’s Leroy Parris inBarbados.

No one from BHS, since it’s now under public scrutiny, will be allowed by the Exchequer to launder money in the UKs central bank, can you say the same for Clico’s stolen policyholder’s money.

  25. Well Well,
We are all passing through. And you should give a shit about Cameron. He is Prime Minister of the U>K not Barbados, and you were talking about leadership and denigrating OUR leaders. How come you don’t give a shit about Cameron. As the article pointed out, Philip Green (who sold the company for one pound to his son who then sold it a short time after for ten million pounds,) they have done nothing illegal. The most that will happen is that he will be required to repay ome of the pension money. I read all about the Panama Papers while I was still inToronto. The Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail all ran pull page spreads. CLICO is small potatoes on the world stage. Note the people implicated; the President of Russia, The Prime Minister of the UK, the Prime Minister of Iceland, many many Billionaires. Where does Barbados fit in?
The whistle blower said: “My viewpoint is entirely my own.”. So are mine. And I owe no apologies to anyone for them.

Talking about money laundering, Philip Green’s; (actually Sir Philip ) last mega yacht; one of three, a 300ft,four-storey is thought to be worth in excess of one hundred million Pounds. They don’t have to worry about laundering their money. buy luxury items. There are suggestions that he might be stripped of his knighthood if he “refuses to repay 400 million pounds worth of dividends that were paid out of BHS. Hardly seems like a possible prison sentence. These people don’t pay attention to the unctuous mouthing of so called do- gooders like you and other hypocrites-

Hope springs eternal. How long has Parris been an Insurance salesman, executive, agent, and agency controller? Don’t you think he ever worked for a salary? Do you think that the only money he ever earned was always from crooked dealings? Did he ever earn commissions legitimately? Did he ever get inheritance from his parents? What is wrong with him having a big house? How did the Dowdings, The Piles, The Haynes’s, and all the other rich people in Barbados…going way back, get their money? Show all those other photos. We have a blogger here named Balance. Are you being “balanced” in your condemnation? or is it the usual biased contribution? You did (do) like David Thompson, you did(do not) like Parris, you didn’t like the DLP, so we do not expect different sentiments from you, but if you are going to comment be fair, and try not to let your dislike get in the way of fairness and “balance”. Just as you can say that I “never” condemn the DLP, I can also say that you NEVER, stay anything favourable of the party or its adherents. Not true?
The BHS crash affects Barbados because it shows that the CLICO debacle scheme is no outstanding affair. It has happened before aND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. 34. Here is a definition of money laundering for Alvin Cummins, we do this to ensure he does not mislead the BU forum because he appears to be ignorant in these matters.

  36. David,
there are a couple of important aspects to the definition of mogaylaundering; the definition differs according to jurisdiction; as shown, but the post pertinent one applies to the obtaining of funds “illegally” and then “cleaning them”
However the following extract, from the web site proffered is most interesting. “…Money laundering has been criminalized in the United States since the Money Laundering Control Act of 1986. The law, contained at section 1956 of Title 18 of the United States Code, prohibits individuals from engaging in a financial transaction with proceeds that were generated from certain specific crimes, known as “specified unlawful activities” (SUAs). The law requires that an individual specifically intend in making the transaction to conceal the source, ownership or control of the funds. There is no minimum threshold of money, and no requirement that the transaction succeeded in actually disguising the money. A “financial transaction” has been broadly defined, and need not involve a financial institution, or even a business. Merely passing money from one person to another, with the intent to disguise the source, ownership, location or control of the money, has been deemed a financial transaction under the law. The possession of money without either a financial transaction or an intent to conceal is not a crime in the United States.[81] Besides money laundering, the law “. Based on this portion of the definition all of us indulge in money laundering, every time we obtain u.S. funds from whatever source. however little ( remember there is no” minimum threshold…” “merely asking money from one individual to the other constitutes a financial transaction, and the fact that the individual intend to disguise the source, ownership etc can be deemed a financial transaction.
What Chris McHale reported on took place in Barbados, not somewhere else.
See how ridiculous it can get.
How can I mislead BU. Remember I am an idiot, and all those others have much more sense, so how can I mislead them?
Well Well I do not try to mislead BU folk, I just like to let them know that I will not let them get away with trying to mislead others, or myself.

  38. Alvin,
I have returned to Bim more than once per year.
I returned from Uni and Tom’s RIDICULOUSLY HIGH TAX told me I was NOT wanted, a bonus of $3,000 and I in my 20s received $900 or 30% and the Govt stole 70%. You see I know HOW TO ESCAPE Economic Slavery. Bim needed my wife and I more than we needed Bim BUT we were willing to be patriotic but NOT stupid. U lived for many years in Canada too, WHY?

Were whiteys wanted in Bim? Are the successful ones appreciated? I correctly concluded that eventually some Govt would really screw the Nation and we have ALL the evidence now. Why would any intelligent person stick around to be kicked around? I have and still love my country of birth and The People who are innocent victims of the Pols and their criminal associates. I will always be a TRUE Bajan that will never support any person or Govt that seeks to destroy Bajan lives for their own Net Worth Enhancement and Power!

Many on here believe that you are such a supporter!

My Constructive criticism and concepts will help

1 Enact STRICT INTEGRITY Legislation a la places like Singapore

2 Pay MPs 3X what they get now to attract the very clever and experienced. Imprison those that commit crimes, sell access, ask for and accept BRIBES.

3 years ago I called for an open non partisan Economic/ Business Planning Group to SOLVE the growth problems, create solutions to JOBS growth, training/ education etc

4 I have pointed to Singapore as a very well managed country we could learn from and adapt some ideas from.

I am not so stupid as to involve myself in Politics on the ground as I dont believe that even IF I had all the solutions that I would be accepted in my own country because of racism. YES many black people would be stirred by my adversaries to hate me because I am White. Black people that actually know me would not be so influenced.

Alvin the fact that you retire/ winter in Bim is in no way unique! I know of NOT one Bajan that prefers the COLD!

I repeated what a Black crop grower said were his 2 major problems
    1 people teeefffing his crops

    2 monkeys destroying his crops.

Patrick Bethel is a trained Agricultural professional who for many years has tried to grow produce PROFITABLY and has encountered serious problems at every turn. He has never been stupid, lazy or dont carish.

What have Politicians in Bim accomplished regarding self sufficiency in food????????????

Where is the Comprehensive Policy developed in consultation with the Professionals????

The evidence proves that the 78k voters for the DLP were misled!

There are badly managed/ crooked Corps just like really DAMAGED/ managed Nations like Bim.

Govt Policies and Over Regulation also causes malignancy.

No doubt you would support the Obama Democrips Admin for “investing” $500mn in Solyndra months before their Bankruptcy. It happened in other instances and corps were then “sold” to the Chinese!

Politicians buy Votes with other people’s money, support LazyAsses who have no intention of contributing to society ad nauseum. Most of what Pols involve themselves in leads to more problems.

  39. Alvin,
McHale is hardly a solid source of info. He is much more likely to be involved up to his back teeeets and when his “ideas” dont work blame his business partner. Check out how many of his “partners” he has fought with. How can one fella fight with many disparate business partners and yet be correct and innocent??????????????

U seem to have a penchant for associating and defending the indefensible.

Both Parris and the Piles are guilty of GBH, Grevious Bodily Harm to the poor people of this country.
The Piles ,Dowdings, Williams, Maloneys, et al worked the people arses to the bone, while Parris, and his associates in politics, have jucked out the eyes of the same very people.

  43. We can cuss Bjerkham, Maloney et al it means nothing, these are the people bank rolling the DLP’s election campaign.

    How about Alvin Boss…?
Can we cuss him…? …he keeps asking for it…!!!

  45. The leper’s house is of very poor design. It gives one an impression of a haphazard design. Its awful to look at.

  46. @ Gabriel
When you hear that man speak, see him in person, or read anything about him, …. would you have expected anything different?
It was bad enough to have been duped by someone like David Thompson ..who at least looked and sounded intelligent… but shiite man…. how could so many Bajans be robbed by such an obvious clown?

Bushie suspects that if you google the word ‘gullible’ …you will see Bajans featuring disproportionately…..
…no wonder Alvin feels empowered to come here on BU talking shiite nonstop….
Next thing we will hear is that AC is appointed as CEO of the NewlifeCo shiite company that Stinkliar is proposing….

  47. So what is the latest with NewlifeCo?

Perhaps Mrs Ram was his building contractor.

  50. @ Bush Tea who wrote “how could so many Bajans be robbed “.

Some of the Bajans who LOST their money were driven by greed. Plain and simple.

A lot of the educated and qualified professionals used to make fun of Paris and still invested in Clucko.

Some of them held the belief that Paris was a puppet and Dupree pulled the strings.
