Rosevelt King - Intervenor
Roosevelt King (ROK)

Roosevelt King (ROK) participated in robust discussion for many years on BU until he retreated to his Facebook […]page where he spent long hours promoting the agenda of NGOs. On behalf of the BU household we salute you ROK, a man of the PEOPLE. May you Rest in Peace.

  2. Gone too Soon RIP

  3. He will be missed as he tried to improve the lot of many.

  4. Agree Vincent, he was one of the view who committed in a tangible way to help those around him.

The sad part is that successive govts/bureacracy have always been a stumbling block for individuals like him,Vincent Layne and Keith Laurie to mention a few,who had a vision for this country in their respective areas.

  6. Yes, we ask citizens to step up and then we emasculate them with a system built on greed and political poppycock.

  7. Oh shite ROK dead … How did that happen …?

  8. Rok and bonny Peppa together again. A dynamic duo that gave great laughter to the Bu household

  9. Oh dear I will miss him. We have had some good conversations on FB and on messenger. It was a pleasure knowing you my FB friend.

  13. My condolences to Roosevelt’s family. and his many friends. His Dad Seymour was a self made business man, shrewd and forthright and was a family friend.May he rest in peace.

  14. Rest in peace ROK. We had a meeting of minds on so many issues.

  15. AC, Bonny Peppa died?

  16. According to what his daughter said on the news today, “Ty King” was not feeling well for the past few days and she took him to the doctor. Apparently he was suffering from respiratory problems, after leaving the doctor he went to his office where he was found dead sitting at his desk.

I also join the BU household in offering my condolences to his relatives and friends.

    May he rest in peace.

  17. i offer Manasseh his brother and family my condolences. i saw him about a month ago and realized he was not looking his usual self so i decided that i would not approach him then. i am sorry now, i loved conversations with him as he was a very insightful individual. may he rest in peace

  18. I saw Roosevelt King’s photo displayed on a friend of mine Facebook page earlier this morning, but hadn’t the slightest idea that he had shed his earthly tabernacle and made his way to that great climb to the stairway to heaven.

I remember engaging Roosevelt on Facebook several years ago regarding the late CID detective Lion Man, and he had had a far wider knowledge about Lion Man, who I knew from about the age of five.

Rest in peace my brother because I am quite sure you have left those who knew you best, your legacy, the memory of your great name, and the inspiration of your great examples.

  19. Saw him riding his bicycle a few Sundays ago. Another good man gone. R.I.P. Rok

  20. Condolences to his family.

Clearly he had the best interest of Barbados and its people at heart. I did not know him personally, but that factor alone says a lot about the person he was.

    Onward.

  21. @DaVID AND BU,

It was a shock to learn that this stalwart had succumbed to “collateral” damage.
THROUGH TY, MANY NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WERE GUIDED ALONG THE CORRECT PATH TO REACH REQUIRED OBJECTIVES. WE FOUGHT THE BATTLE AGAINST CABLE AND WIRELESS, SUCCESSFULLY AS SOLDIERS TOGETHER IN THAT NOBLE CAUSE, AT THE LAST RATE HEARING. As a representative of BARNUFO, we had many discussions, an many topics.. He toiled long and hard on behalf of Non Governmental organizations, and he stuck to his guns bringing Black consciousness to the fore.
Gone, but not forgotten. Another Royal Palm has died.
    May he rest in Peace.

  22. An incredibly insightful and independent mind is now at rest. People like ROK are richly celebrated elsewhere but a prophet is not without honor save in his own country, May you rest in peace, Roosevelt.

  23. Time is fleeting who would have thought that Rok last post on BU would have been his final post here
Indeed a man full of vibrancy leaving a model composed of good stewarship truly a dedicated steward and a voice for the voiceless
Many on Bu can attest to his firm beliefs whether be religious or political
But what mostly shine was his commitment to activism with a strident approach for the better.

  24. I liked that guy! It is indeed a loss to us regular folk.

  25. As usual the is a flood of praise when people of his ilk have traversed to the great beyond.

  26. David show some respect try not to stage a superficial political wrangling based on people respect for the dead
For many here might never have met the man but that does not mean that the respect for him died at the moment of his death.
Please let the dead rest in peace this is not the time to be critical with finger pointing exposing yourself to be a Jas

  27. I just heard that Lionel “Mark” Thompson died…….. don’t know if it’s true.

Yep, apparently he had surgery and did not make it.

  29. Wow, WW&C, that’s sad…. Mark was an exceptional individual and policeman.

    May he rest in peace.

  30. Newspaper said he died in Colombia after heart surgery?Didn’t know of their expertise in that procedure..

  31. @ Gabriel
Don’t know of this case, but our Trickidadian Insurance Massa directs patients to the CHEAPEST available options….

  32. Not always, Bushie. My experience hasn’t been such.

  33. Bushie, high wind know where old house live.

  34. windies win last game of sl tour

    West Indies 162/6 (20/20 ov)
    Sri Lanka 139/10 (20/20 ov)
West Indies won by 23 runs

So, WI have something to take home after a horror tour. They have won this last game and levelled the T20 series. They have defended a competitive score very well and efficiently with some persistent accuracy.

  35. GP wuh de windies them done dead too ! need teking off life support.what a blasted waste of time and energy.Doc why don’t you do yourself and them a favour and pull the plug.

Perhaps the longest thread on BU ever
ROK & BONNY PEPPA featured. It even had AC and Dompy aka Mark Fenty
    BU was more civil then.
This is perhaps because one particular disruptive person said very little

I think there is another such thread somewhere with my beloved and lost JC

  39. As a matter of fact that was and still my favourite and way of stumbling upon Bu. Yes Gp could not agreed with you more.

  40. Gp i was trying to find the thread where there was a marathon religious debate betwen you rok and zoe .another illuminating moment back then

  41. George Porgie

Yes, BU was quite civil back in 2009, even with the likes of Bush Tea, myself and some who appear to have forgotten what the true essence of the word civility conveys in its modern context.

  42. Dompey
    Civility is a two-way street…..
Besides, Bushie is not here to bring peace, but a whacker.

Perhaps that previous thread was indeed more ‘civil’ because ‘a particularly disruptive person’ did not say much….
…another possibility may have been that a particularly childish looser did not attempt to promote them self as a ‘bible expert’ and then find himself unable to answer BASIC questions – and instead abusing those raising the questions…

There is no need for a whacker when the mundane subject is “growing up stupid under the Union Jack….”

The Celebration of Ty King’s Life yesterday was truly a testament to a great man.

It was coordinated by his family and another great soldier Rodney Grant of Pinelands Creative Workshop.

Each age brings good soldiers it is said but it would appear that in our almost 50th year of so called independence, After these soldiers go, all that we will be left with are shadows of men and women embodied in the form of Community Independence Kings and Queens,

    Such a crying shame!!
