The more I hear of this argument for reparations , the more suspicious I become.Just non-specifics.Somebody trying to line their pockets to create a wealthy class of black individuals under the guise of a trickle down theory.Maybe I am just a reparations dummy.
We need black people to understand that Homo Sapiens is an animal. Animals live in ecological systems, where groups compete against each other for scarce resources. There is a pecking order, with predators and victims.
Blacks have failed to devise effective strategies that can protect their territories from external predators. Our technological capabilities are weak, and technology is the principal tool for effective competition with other groups. Complaining, begging, protesting about injustice won’t help. Stop asking for charity and favours. In the animal kingdom, altruism is the exception not the rule.
In the sense of predators and victims, black men in (just as an example) have done OK recently. They account for 6% of the population and 51% of the violent crime.

Reparations seems to be the latest “guy thing”. Harping on a past that is totally irrelevant to the future unless you want to make it so. I predict reparations will never happen . . . . no public administration will ever get it approved by its constitiuents. Get real !! The new generation of women has no need for reparations. See them moving ahead out of the plantation mentality and taking advantage of opportunities on their own steam. They should be demanding reparations from the years of oppression they suffered under their “menfolk” !!!

How can women move ahead from men and the society be a cohesive one? Do women exist in a vacuum?
You assume society has to be cohesive; maybe it doesn’t. If women are thinking more “progressively” than men these days, that is just what is happening. Society will change in response.
It is regrettable that so many Barbadians parrot whatever ideas are in fashion in the UK and North America.
The notion that women were or are oppressed by their “menfolk” is one eggregious example of this atrocious habit. Women as a group have never been oppressed by men. On the contrary, middle and upper class women have traditionally enjoyed privileges and protections males could only wish for. Lower class women have been abused in the past by other classes in society, but have not suffered as much as lower class men.
In North America, we now have the ridiculous spectacle of privileged white women claiming that women have historically suffered more than blacks under slavery. Men should put a stop to this foolishness right now.
Historical experience in other countries reveals that unjust distribution of land property after emancipation (slaves, serfdom) slowes down economic progress for centuries. Emancipation did not mean free access to real property. But real property is vital. Example: If in one part of a countrie property after death was only transferred to one child, this part is significantly poorer than the other part where property was split amongst children. One needs property as a starting point for mortgages, credits, investments to build new houses and to begin a business.
A second point concerns the moral of offshore banking. The OECD has no right to blame the Caribbean islands for “piracy” there. The people on these islands do not want alms but have developed financial products to produce foreign currency and to attract foreign investments. I would like to call that not piracy, but “cold” restitution. It is a just cause that the West Indians master their own fate.
What happened after slavery? The apprentice period? What has to happen today for Black people to get equal rights within the system?

Reparations is back pay owed to our great great great great grandparents.
The reason Jews and Japanese command attention to their suffering during World War II is that these groups are prosperous and influential today. People want to make money doing business with them today, and so it is useful today to show respect for and interest in their history.
If the Caribbean were a truly wealthy and technologically advanced region with a large population, our past suffering would be respected too.
