The unfinished St.John Polyclinic
The unfinished St.John Polyclinic (1991-2015)

It is an open secret the very close – who said incestuous? – relationship the late prime minister David Thompson and Leroy Parris enjoyed. They were pals, travel buddies, the two families had a financial relationship. Rumours abound about the content of Thompson’s will sized by some from 30 million to 70 million dollars. Also, the close relationship extended to the company Parris led, CLICO bankrolled the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) political campaigns in the amount of millions. Not to mention the hand me down motor cars and other items sold or given to DLP members of the political class.

The release of the CLICO FINAL FORENSIC REPORT raises several questions about the integrity and honesty of the late David Thompson.  So far it does not look good for the former prime minister who died at the age of 48 from pancreatic cancer. Given what is at stake Barbadians will be lucky to see justice play out any time soon – members of the political class from both sides supported by corrupt elements in the private sector will be the hindrance.

Construction of the St.John Polyclinic started in 1991 by a DLP government and in 2015 it is still under construction after being ignored by a Barbados Labour Party government from 1994 to 2008. For 24 years the polyclinic has been made a political football because of the ignorance of our political class.  Of concern to BU is the recent announcement by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart the St.John Polyclinic will be named the David Thompson Polyclinic promised again to be completed by mid year. Surely the Prime Minister is the most insensitive brute of a man to make such an announcement with litigation unfolding which may yet place Thompson in an ugly light. Any government committed to promoting fairness should see the commonsense position of not lending the name David Thompson for any reason to any national asset, not even an out toilet.

Another consideration is the fact the wife of David Thompson was recently named in a court filing in her capacity as beneficiary of David Thompson’s estate. The role of the Thompsons in the CLICO saga promises more airplay, so too the rise or fall of the Democratic Labour Party legacy.

  1. I think its very fitting that the polyclinic be named after David Thompson. I support it fully. Now to get the polyclinic 100% complete and functioning.

what’s in a name? Jesus Christ our lord and savior was without sin or blemish, yet he was lied upon and eventually crucified. There is no comparison between Christ and any mortal man, but he admonishes us when he says he without sin let him cast the first stone. There are many buildings in this country and even places named after citizens that were deemed as shining examples but whenever we the people congregate something is often spoken of, that cast dark shadows over that person’s supposedly sterling contributions, so will naming the polyclinic after David Thompson be a strange occurrence? I say no, as kevin said get the facility completed for the use of the people of Barbados.

  3. Why don’t you name your next child or grandson Hitler?

OK then let us agree to name the mausoleum after David Thompson. Let us call it the “David J H Thompson Memorial Complex”. I would be decent enough to omit the ‘Rehabilitation Centre for Liars & Crooks’ part of the naming.

So here is a proposal. Since Owen Arthur is the politically rehabilitated blue-eyed boy of the DLP why not rename the Bridgetown Port the “Owen S. Arthur Maritime Facility”?
Or are you guys waiting until he expires? There is no need to since you have already established a precedent by naming the St. Joseph Tamarind Tree complex after Eric Holder Jr. a living American.

It seems that the only comments on this blog must be those that ridicule the current administration or anyone associated with them, well each and everyone has an opinion and invariably they will differ,i just do not see all the hullabaloo about the naming of the polyclinic, Mr.Blog Master seems like everyone is a JA who shares a different view to the ones you purport, careful Mr. Blog master control is the key, we certainly do not need to be offensive, we are all entitled to our opinions, at least that is what i thought this blog was about, or am i mistaken?

  6. What’s in a name, he asks.
Perhaps if he had seen the place- name sign erected by the Ministry of Transport and Works (or its predecessor) outside of Mount Wilton plantation in St Thomas , up to the early 1970’s ,boldly pointing the way to the adjacent ”Nigger Yard”, he would feel the same way that many of us felt each and every time we went past that sign.

  7. Yes Eompey.

  8. Why? to keep Mara ‘thief money” Thompson well able to continue stealing taxpayer’s money of course. Do you really think these demons plan to stop fooling the people who are not mentally capable of fighting back?

AC…you mean they have not sterilized you yet, or at least put your ass to sleep? setupss.

“..i just do not see all the hullabaloo about the naming of the polyclinic..”

Well if you can’t see what is ‘morally wrong’ with naming the complex after a proven crook who purposely engaged in fraudulent activities while sitting in the HoA as the Prime Minister of Barbados then your moral compass has to be broken into fine pieces.

Why name a public institution (built and to be operated out of taxpayers’ financial contributions) after a man who said he will never lie, cheat or steal and then turned around and do the exact same opposite?

Do you think the defrauded CLICO policyholders living in St. John would feel proud of the naming of that complex after a man who was purposely and intricately involved in swindling them and depriving them of their life savings and pension entitlements?

Why name that complex after a lying thieving sanctimonious hypocrite? Why not Errol W. Barrow, a true statesman and a ‘loved’ representative of the residents of that parish? Why not after Dr. Henry Fraser, a true ‘citizen’ of St. John and an unquestionable patriot?

  10. bi..tch who supposed to put ac a.ss to sleep i see that as a threat, u better watch the way you formed your words before they come back to haunt you ,,b,.,itch.

  11. miller what de f.. k . wasn’t MIa accused of fraudulent activities yet she is seeking the highest post of the land and have many of you BLp yardfowls singing her praises and giving their full support her, wuh so wrong with putting DT name on a wall, after all the man is dead and can’t say yea or nay, unlike mia who has no qualms to pursue relentlessly higher political office knowing full well of these fraudulent accusations but as never address them.

“wasn’t MIa accused of fraudulent activities yet she is seeking the highest post of the land and have many of you BLp yardfowls singing her praises and giving their full support her”

Operative word is “accused”. Whereas it has been forensically proven, with no shadow of doubt, that David Thompson was a big lying bold-faced fraudster.
The financially based DNA evidence confirms that the David Thompson crooked spermatozoa shares a significant amount of genetic commonality and abnormality with the CLICO fraud baby.

We can only wish that your new found pal OSA forms his own party and is joined by some disgruntled BLP members to form the next government. Then and only then we can influence you into reverting to your old ‘anti Owen Seethru Arthur of the fraudulent $75,000 cheque’ mode.

  13. The funny thing the government cannot afford toilet paper to supply the QEH.

  14. miller forensically proven my big butt hole.. where and in which court of law just like mia has been accused yet to this day it is obvious she seems comfortable despite what accusations are leveled…comfortable enough to pursue higher office while expecting the electorate to exonerate her,
however in the CLICO debate the yardfowls crow loud and long from sunrise to sunset irrespective of a report which as yet to be fully aired out by (defendant) who is not seeking higher political office and claimant in the law courts and as at present time no court of law has rendered final judgement for or against either parties …..what most are witnessing is a hog wash of political interceptions of the highest order

  15. “However what is most striking are those who have been his ardent supporters have choosen to disregard and engaged in the art of buffoning the relevancy of his contributions in the Estimate.”

Read the above post by ac, then the media reports of OSA’s contribution and you’ll see further evidence of her lunacy.

Why don’t you just sit this whole CLICO/Parris/Thompson/Stuart comic-thriller out?
Is it true to say the only thing you are loyal to is the big lie of yard-fowlism?

There is something called ‘Fact’ and there is the god of facts called the Truth.
And listen to this fact, dear ac, no one other than yourselves of course, will accept anything you say on this blog in regard to this whole CLICO fiasco while you insist on maintaining you position that the Judicial Manager has responsibility for events prior to 2008.
Why do you keep arguing that the forensic report is a tissue of lies concocted by the BLP-sympathetic forensic auditors and prepared mainly to discredit and besmirch the hallowed name and esteemed reputation of Lord King David and his phallic bosom buddy and consort in fraud Queen Leroy Parris?

  17. enuff why don,t you sit your little self in a corner and play with your balls rather than waste your time engaging in verbal orgasmic pleasure with ac comments.jac a.ss

  18. I said on another post yesterday that one of the angry policyholders should spray paint the damned name when it goes up! Liar, thief and cheater. He will know no peace ever!

  19. Some of the hardest working and most dedicated people to work in the health system in the history Barbados, were those nurses, matrons and staff, who manned what was then called the Almhouses. And what a pity that no one over the years has seen it fit to erect a memorial to these dedicated Nurses, but can name a polyclinic after a scoundrel, who for all intents and purposes, has placed many a CLICO pensioner on the door steps of the modern day almshouse.

  20. When David Thompson died he went to hell, and met up with Burnham and Pappa Doc down there. One day Burnham made a call to Guyana to see how things were going. When finished, the devil told him , That would be $5 Million US for the call. Next Pappa Doc made a call back to Haiti ,and when finished he was charged by the devil $6 Million US for his call. Lastly David Thompson got on the line and called up Stuart, and they chatted for hours. At the end , Thompson asked the devil, how much that call would cost me in Clico Dollars. Not a cent, said the devil, All calls made from one Hell to another are free.

  21. @Togetherness March 21, 2015 at 8:42 AM “It is proper that the polyclinic be named after David Thompson of that there should be no debate. Were not Thompson’s life cut tragically short he would have become as outstanding a Prime Minister.”

And if my grandmother had balls she would be my grandfather.

  22. Cabinet has already agreed that the Polyclinic shall be called the “David Thompson ………………….Complex.” That was about one year ago!!! What you heard in the House is no proposal; it is what had already been done!!! Stuart believes he can ride this storm with an in your face attitude and he demonstrated it during the estimates debate!!!

  23. @Togetherness March 21, 2015 at 8:42 AM “Were not Thompson’s life cut tragically short he would have become as outstanding a Prime Minister.”

Nobody and nothing cut David Thompson’s life short.

Except perhaps his own bad habits

  24. The name sign for the Polyclinic is already finished and only waiting to be erected!!!

  25. @balance that might be true all things being equal and given the enviroment of the politics of the day. However what PM has set out to do is pursue a path where not only one version of events spirraling out of control are not held to scrunity’

I do not understand what you are trying to say. please e-la-bo-rate

  26. ” We are now being told that this building will cost twice the original estimate which means that a lot of steal went into the construction – yes,

Not necessarily so- construction costs rise daily and given the length of time this structure has been stopping and starting; it is not unusual that costs would escalate; bad planning and unforeseen circumstances not necessarily related to this particular project could also result in over-runs.

    Onions

Stuart’s in-your-face attitude demonstrates that he has mastered the House and can now do what he likes in the face of an ineffectual Opposition. They were outfoxed and made to look like a bunch of neophytes.

The Opposition should have gone home immediately after Mia’s reply. It is at that point that they showed that they have not mastered their craft as members of parliament. The Estimates is a debate where the Government is required to explain what it is going to do with the people’s money. The real purpose of the debate for the Opposition is to get into the heads of expenditure and force the Govern to explain why it need the proposed amount of money. They had a golden opportunity to go directly into the heads but they let the Government off the hook by wasting time making second reading speeches, the content of which had nothing nothing to do with the Government’s expenditure.

The alternative is that they were killing time because they were ill prepared to debate the heads and therefore had to kill time in order to debate as few heads as possible.

Mr Stuart was the first to besmirch Mr Thompson’s name and sow the seeds of doubt and confusion against Mr Thompson in his 13 point indictment against Mr Thompson at the 2005 DLP conference.

Indeed, by praying for them, we will be really praying for ourselves …since when they fall apart there will be much collateral damage….

…also, we have them because we DESERVE them…

How cunningly observant you are. The state of a man’s mind (and his ‘moral’ soul) is always expressed in his face. One cannot believe this is the same face of the P M that came to power in October 2010. A face riddled with guilt and scarred with the lines of ugly sin from the many lies and broken promises.

Giving a new twist to Mark Antony’s famous speech:
‘The evil that a man does remains etched in his ugly physiognomy; any good is oft interred with his lying bones in some desecrated graveyard.’

  37. What a waste of education when issues relating to PM physical attributes becomes food for fodder by blp misfits LOL

  38. @ MOF
What a waste , when we have a DLP government PM and ministers who was educated and is now paid by the people, have this Country suffering due to BAD management , because the DLP government PM, Ministers, Yard Ducks and misfits like you minds are so sick, you all are showing your physical attributes that are full of UGLINESS, David Thompson the master mind of the curse dry up and gone, but we shall see some of the remaining fatted calf eaters like you, walking around with big guts and wearing your sick minds on the face, may your GOD (blood money ) help you and yours

When you and your ilk stop your wanton personal attacks of Mia Mottley and Owen Arthur we shall follow suit and stop our moral stone throwing at the proven liar of a ‘screw -face’ P M who sees nothing wrong in his official capacity to intimately associate with known crooks and fraudsters and do his level best to protect these perpetrators of crimes from the law and Justice.

Ugly people should always carry a pleasant disposition and be free from arrogance, vindictiveness and hypocrisy. A wise word to the dumb is sufficient, right ac the MOF?

Talking about the PM’s ugliness is not going to get rid of him and all the ugly things he has done so far. We need to find a connection between him and Parris. We need to find out why a thief like Parris can be given permission to put his millions in the Central Bank of Barbados. We need to determine if the PM is in receipt of the Parris millions or if some land or house was given to the PM in a family member’s name. All this shite about his nose and ugliness will not change what is. We need to dig at these connections and start a propanganda campaign base on these facts. Otherwise we are just talking and the PM barely laughing.

  42. Who read Peter Laurie’s column? He predicts Mara Thompson will be Opposition Leader by default….lol.

  43. now look at that ,,barrack getting paid ,the polyclinic (free)opening in three months, by the time election come around the BLP one two issues would be gone BE GONE BEES BUZZ your way through life,,, on to the next six years in the wilderness,,,,

  44. And a $1.7b deficit!!

  45. @ enuff with a deficit that size i figure that if the BLP wins the next election. (which i doubt)however! they would surely have there work cut for them which begs the question ,how would they go about reducing such a heavy load?

  47. The Rev Vincent Wood of the Emanuel Baptist Church on President Kennedy Drive, must be commended for the stance he took in his sermon this morning on CBC Radio and repeated at 9.30 pm. His theme -The Poor you have with you always.
What a pity that more of his fellow clerics, have very little interests in rocking the boat, as far as speaking out against some of the government’s policies, and uncaring politicians themselves.
Recently we have seen a hitherto unknown , young Anglican priest who spoke on the side of the Government ,at some church service, or party function, given much coverage since then by the media, and has now been elevated to Rector at a Parish Church. Maybe a coincidence.

  48. And the BWA is seeking more money to continue its mains renewal programme. Shelving the construction of the White House HQ in the Pine could have gone a long way in financing a great part of the mains renewal.

I suppose that when the SSA completes its new multi -storey state -of-the-art Headquarters, they too, will be looking for a loan to finance the purchase of trucks and equipment.

When did this habit started where Government Departments went into the area of constructing buildings, while neglecting its mandated core business.

  49. By the impromptu naming of the policlinic after Thompson, the [government] came prepared in Parliament in one sense to the word. “campaigning” against a backdrop to satisfy the DLP yardfowls”, and in a last minute attempt to launch a process of trying to exonerate Thompson, making him out to be some sort of Barbadian hero. “How despicable.”
