Donville Inniss – Minister of Commerce, and International Business

“The Freundel Stuart administration says it is sticking to its guns to make Barbadian students at the University of the West Indies start pulling their pockets for tuition fees from next year even though welcoming a new private sector fund to bail out those who cannot afford to pay…The firm position was taken today by Minister of Commerce, and International Business, Donville Inniss, while launching a new charity known as Global Education Scholastic Trust…Inniss said the Government had done the right thing in the circumstances of the economic climate, and would carry through with it…It is not easy for me as a politician that would have taken in recent debates to reduce fees at UWI with effect from 2014, but it is one of those things we felt we had to do, and we stand by that decision.”

What else can one expect from an uncaring Government, whose scions – and probably their scions’ scions – have had a free education at the UWI Cave Hill Campus? The motto of this Government is now “after me the deluge”! Is this the same Government that Minister Blackett called people-centred? I guess he means centred around the 16 DLP Government MPs, but night runs till day catches it!

Minister Inniss can spare us his crocodile tears!

You do not have money for our students at UWI Cave Hill, nor for the QEH, but you have millions of dollars in waivers – including one for food and beverage which no hotel has had before – to throw at a multi-millionaire named “Butch” Stewart, although he took over a hotel here and promised to develop and refurbish it so that Barbadians could get work, but absconded leaving it to moulder and the iron in it to rust! This left those who had hopes of getting a job there up the creek without a paddle! “Is that “the right thing in the circumstances of the economic climate”, Minister Inniss?

Aaron Freedman, a senior analyst for Moody’s, and who monitors Barbados’ economy, cautioned against celebrating Sandals’ presence, because of the cost to Barbados which has not been tallied, and because “it’s too early to say”. It was NOT too early for Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler, and Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, though! They were jumping up and down like children in a candy factory!

What is your reply now, ministers?

I take it that Mr. Freedman is wrong, as you are always right, and you operate on a stand your ground principle! You even cut the funds for the one and only hospital in Barbados by $35million, not caring how the poor, the needy, and the vulnerable will fare under the circumstances! CEO of the QEH, Dr. Dexter James, said: “that even though the institution’s finances had been reduced by $35million, patients could ” most definitely” expect the same high standards of care they had grown accustomed to over time.”

We do not need any platitudes from you, Dr. James! We know that you must toe the line! How can the service be the same as before? Something has got to give, and that will mean longer waiting hours, and running from clinic to clinic in the hope of finding the relative medication! Also, getting a doctor’s appointment will be worse than trying to get blood out of a stone! Is that “the right thing in the circumstances of the economic climate”, Minister Inniss?

Is it “the right thing” to rob the poor, the needy and the vulnerable to give the money to the rich? I guess you think it was “Robbing Hood” who roamed Sherwood Forest stealing from the poor and giving to the rich!

Wrong, Minister Inniss!

It was Robin Hood, and he robbed the rich and gave it to the poor! That’s why he is so famous all over the world! This Government will also go down as being famous, as it is the only Government in Barbados – and possibly anywhere else – that I know that robbed the poor to give their money to a multi-millionaire!

I must say WELL DONE to the Freundel Stuart Administration!

The reason that Germany will remain one of the top countries in the world is the emphasis it places on the education of its people! You had better save some money to pay other Jamaicans who will be filing lawsuits against Barbados as everybody has hailed the verdict of the CCJ  as the best thing since sliced bread, and seem to think that Barbados is a milking cow! This Government often spoke of “our children”, but they did not mean the nation’s children!

They meant their OWN children! Sorry we misinterpreted you! You are way out of touch with the populace of this country! Your “no retreat, no surrender” – as long as it has to do with the poor, the needy, and the vulnerable – is despicable, and a blatant disregard of their human rights to food, clean drinking water, EDUCATION, housing, etc. By the way: Have no Barbadians been held/stopped illegally in Jamaica?

Is Barbados the punching bag of CARICOM?

Sorry, I forgot that you do not deal with such things as we are subservient to you! On the other hand, I must thank Global Education Scholastic Trust for stepping up to the plate to help some of those who cannot afford to pay the fees at the UWI Cave Hill Campus! I hope that more of the private sector will show more empathy/sympathy for the poor, the needy, and the vulnerable than this Government!

Ross…….you claim to be a graduate of UWI means you helped suck up taxpayers money for your education, it also means you should be instrumental in finding a solution to the UWI debt problem, time for you to show the taxpayers what they PAID for in educating you…..by the way i don’t know who created the debt problem, and i was definitely not educated in BIM, did not suck up any of the taxpayers hard earned money.

  5. Well Well

I do assure you I was NOT educated at UWI. BTW how is your diet coming on? Can you see between your thighs yet?

Barbadians will sit meekly and allow this incompetent administration to destroy the way of life of which we are accustomed. Most of us want somebody else to stand up for us. But those leaders that are willing to take the fight to the Government are few and far between. Not even the Opposition seems willing to stand up to this galaxy of clowns that we have installed as the Government.

The last time Bajans rose up against tyranny they were led by a Trinidadian, Clement Payne.

BAJANS WILL JUST SUFFER FOR OUR COLLECTIVE COWARDICE. No one wants to be the first to get their heads cracked or shot down.

  8. Ross…….i weigh 114 pounds dripping wet, that should answer your question….a liar MUST have a great memory, you are the one who spoke about the poverty law courses at UWI and a particular student who wrote a poem on Nelson Street and prostitution, you even quoted the poem verbatim and still wondered if the said student was still as perverted as yourself, when you were a student at UWI, a really great lawyer would never have gotten caught in that particular lie….anyway, i suggest when you volunteer to help UWI sort out it’s debt, you do so pro bono.

  9. Well Well

Yes I did. But listen poor thing, that is NOT the same as saying I was a student there and I NEVER said I was a student there. You are making silly assumptions – minimal comprehension – and tripping over the flab.
Sad to say, you are a delusional paranoid who has long lost your peace of mind. I hope you find it again.

PLEASE NEVER speak of your cellulite body dripping wet again…I don’t have enough drink in the house to deal with the thought. It is simply too yucky. Oh and actually I do a lot of pro bono work, for your purposes addressing the poverty of your mind.

    BTW -blackmailed anyone lately?

  10. Ross…………….you are channeling Rob Ford, lying about EVERYTHING…as i told you in previous posts, you have absolutely no credibility on BU AND everything you say is tinged and framed with perversion, yours is a very sad and miserable perverted life Ross, i so never, ever want to be you. How can you live like that? Being the shitty lawyer that you are it is no surprise you HAVE to do pro bono work, no one in their right mind would hire you to ruin their case, even AC can see through your wannabe lawyer act, besides there are those on BU who know exactly who you are hiding behind the RR moniker (let me tell you why that is possible, some people have one writing style and cannot change or escape the style because they are neither creative nor imaginative, that means they are recognized everywhere by people who know them, that means YOU fraud ROss) and they know your lying ass attended UWI as a student so there, HA!!

I would not want to get into any discussions about my body parts with you since you are so perverted you will get off on the subject and i have no intentions of satisfying your perverted curiosity, but suffice it to say…..

Who are the principals of Global Education Scholastic Trust?

  12. So is Donville the government’s spokesman on everything now?

  13. @Barbados Todday “The larger economic costs, however, are still being funded by the Freundel Stuart administration.”

No Barbados Today. No editor Kaymar Jordan (surely YOU know better) The larger economic costs are being funded NOT by the Freundel Stuart administration, but BY THE TAXPAYERS of Barbados.

    Get it right.

The taxpayers pay for everything, including the salaries of Donville and Freundel.

Donville and Freundel and the lotta dem need to be reminded, lest they forget who is paying their salaries and all of Barbados’ bills.

The long suffering taxpayer pays everybody and pays for everything.

  14. We should really cut Cabinet Ministers salaries in half.

That would teach them which God (the tax payer) they serving

  15. And where did Global Education Scholastic Trust get this initial $100,000

  16. And what do they want in return for the $100,000?

  17. I hope that thy are not seeking permission from the Barbados government to sell expensive education insurance policies to the long suffering tax paying parents of Barbados

  18. Does Global Education have a business arm?

  19. And wait!!!but who is the Minister of International business?

Well said S S! That is the kind of piss-poor writing passing off as journalism today. Such writing can only come from an idiot of a lackey with a mendicant parasitic mind and shaped by political ‘yardfowlism’.
Godfather Politician has really done a hatchet job on the dignity of these so-called media people who still carry the indelible mark of park food beggars.
When are these jokers going to get it through their thick skulls to an imaginary brain that the public purse managed by elected officials contains tax payers’ money only and must be used in the interest of Barbados Inc with politicians being mere temporary members of the Board of Management.

  24. Old Onions

You speak of collective cowardice. Yes, we do a lot of squaring up – but it’s all fizz and no POP. In two posts at least I raised the question of whether the time had come to ‘march’ and in respect of what. There were no takers. Since then a couple of people – I have a feeling that Simple Simon was one but can’t be sure and so apologies to him if I’m wrong – have insinuated that we should crawl from the cacoon and do something. To those remarks there was, again, a pervasive silence. Where do you stand? As it is we jaw and jaw and jaw, some from the gutter side of things others from the lofty heights of the cerebrative prophet, but that’s it.

How many actually write to the Press? If someone has a column, say Caswell, and so sticks his neck out, we say he is a lackey – so we diminish every attempt to assert what we SAY we regard as ‘right’. My view is that it’s not good enough to wallow in vapid self-satisfaction and crow about the effect we make, from here, upon the world…..and not least because in all our arguments, all our silliness, we ARE the world.

  25. Sorry – those last remarks are directed to Caswell as IF he were Onions.

  27. Miller…….>I keep saying that 5 years is way too long to be paying a single political to manage the affairs of the taxpayers, they get way too comfortable and have more than ample time to sell out the taxpayers for their own self-serving gains…..rotating them every 2 years is a much better plan and would definitely get rid of the yardfowls…..just look at how both government(s) DLP/BLP sold their own people to Chefette, not a bajan can sell food at Grantley Adams, an international airport, except Chefette, where else in the world would you hear of that happening? Chefette will make millions if they try to renege on that agreement and taxpayers will once again be footing the bill…..what a bunch of asses for politicians, sell out their guts and now don’t even have ribs to shit through……..

Another DOWNGRADE…Alvin explain, i expect you to say it means nothing, the credit rating agencies are idiots, just like Sinckler would say to cover up his own inadequacies. LOL!!

  28. ”The University of Nicosia (UNic), one of the major English language universities in the Mediterranean, will become the world’s first to accept bitcoins for tuition. The university will also begin a new Master of Science course in Digital Currency”.

Some time ago we suggested that a Bitcoin type currency could be used to satisfy all parties in this national dispute about education costs. The ‘ignorant’ polymaths and the polygoths here brought our honesty into question. Now we see two things. First that the Uni of Nicosia has beaten us to the punch as above. We will dutifully follow at some point, as usual. Secondly, with the mutterings in the US Congress this week Bitcoin value viz a viz the US dollars has soared. This is the type of backward thinking that keeps us underdeveloped. Wasting time talking nonsense about old economy matters with the absence of a vision, at any level, for a different future. If this writer had anything to do with the the public finances of Barbados or those of any other developing country there would have been national reserves made up of various amounts of physical gold, bitcoin, silver, high art and the smallest amounts of US dollars possible. This barley field is where developing countries will take the next hit, watch out!

What about well-cured marijuana and other herbal pharmacological substances not yet synthesized by the capitalist white man?
What about a seed bank of disappearing tropical plants for fruit and food production that would be needed in the “reforming” of the real Pachamama in less than century to come?

What we have today is an uncaring cadre of people in Barbados with strange logic and justification for their selfishness and greed and uncaring attitude.

The government is uncaring and sets the benchmark in this regard. Listen to Donville, Sinckler, Stuart Jones and the rest.

Teachers are uncaring: Not teaching nation’s children properly, do not care if they learn or not.

Policemen are uncaring: Linda Tull’s relatives experienced this recently but anyone who has had to interact with the police know that the police do not care and are very unpleasant. Being uncouth is the mode of operation.

Doctors are uncaring: Diana Wilson’s (principal/Lester Vaughn) family and relatives know this very well.

Members of the public are dumping their old at the hospital ; How uncaring !

(WHATEVER BECAME OF ESTWICK ? He does not support the Tuition fee imposition. I know that for sure.)

    These examples are enuff

“On the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food….Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing” (Ez 47:12).”

But GP be careful when you read the book of Ezekiel. You might just become enchanted with the narration of a contact (meeting) between Earthlings and extra terrestrial beings you Christians call God(s). Abraham and others had a similar experience although not vividly narrated. Maybe your friend Jesus was one of them.

Peace and live long in our galaxy of 400 billion stars!

  33. @Pacha

David Ellis from VOB92.9 carried an interview today about the emergence of Bitcoin. It will take time, it is Barbados after all.

  34. @ David
Therein lies the problem, when a country waits on the likes of David Ellis, a man who makes a living talking nonsense. The real problem is that if the country is not on the cutting edge of these innovations, at least a few, when we get in, taking the time that you think is needed, others would already be in control. We have spoken about being able to predict the future and anybody who got any sense has to be trying to do that. When we fail to innovate there is no value left for us. Bitcoin started maybe 10 years ago selling for less than 50 dollars now they are worth nearly 5000 dollars. Gold is the same 10 years ago it worth 264 dollars an once and recently was as high as 2200 dollars. We are forecasting gold will be 5000 dollars an once within five years. Could you imagine what our reserves could have been if we had an enlightened strategy. We even told BU how to build an economy amongst the readership but you lacked the courage. And you got ignorant people in a so-called Central Bank talking about Forex. This is the problem with Barbados, Bajans and the so-called intelligent people that dwell therein. Always too conservative in their thinking, waiting for others always to start a bandwagon, then to jump on. A nation of jokers!

  35. @Pacha

It has nothing to do with courage, we are a hosted blog with a TOS which governs how we operate. To add, we are an anonymous blog which is a constraint also. On the other hand there is no reason why you can’t fire it up and we link to your website.

  36. This thing about a hosted blog is bare self censorship. This blog can be hosted anywhere in the world. Sometimes we come to this blog from 5 or 6 different places on this planet within an hour. You are the man who got the confidence of the people here, not us. We have much larger global issues dealing with.

  37. @Pachamama,
Taken from your link: “I for one, don’t see it as a viable solution in it’s current form.”
You keep forgetting that it is unrealistic to expect the entire world to accept this “new currency” willy nilly.
    @Well Well,
The “long term” downgrade(from BBplus to BBminus, is minor. The short term has not been downgraded. What has happened in not unexpected nor unreasonable, based on previous projections. However of note is the fact that despite all the projections by the doom and gloom cohort, we have not entered an IMF programme, the dollar is still the same; with minor fluctuations, and the projection for growth, based on present winter tourist forecasts is positive. 2914 is just around the corner, many projects are due to come on stream during that year, which is why the BLP is so anxious to try to get power before that happens (note Henderson Bovell is calling for elections in January at the latest ).
Glad to hear you are such a petite lady. Pay no attention to Robert Ross. Won’t be here in the spring, hopefully later in the year. Planning to have the book launch in January or very early February. Will tell you about that later.
