Allegations continue to swirl that Syria used chemical weapons against its own people

It would appear that the United States of America will lead a coalition, which will attack Syria because of allegations that Syria used chemical weapons against its own people.  US Secretary of State John Kerry in an emotional speech has said it is undeniable that there was large scale indiscriminate use of chemical weapons in Syria by the Assad regime and for this there must be accountability.

As I write a definite decision has not been taken or if it has the public has not been told – we can no doubt expect President Obama to have his say in a matter of days.  However, if I have read the mood music correctly, the record is now playing to a logical conclusion.

How will Russia, China and most importantly Iran, allies of Syria in this “situation” up to now, respond?

This action if taken has the potential to launch a fire-ball in the Middle East and we should also note that this action is not dependent on a UN sanction.

How will this action play out and where will it lead?  On BU (Barbados Underground) we are often ahead of the game.  On this one at least when it blows,  it will be in our sights.

    American foreign policy has Failed…….Do you understand the goals and objectives of American Foreign Policy. ..it is not only limited to fighting wars against dictatorsips but it multifacted and goes beyond one such area .     We try to avoid this popular notion about a policy failure or success. Indeed, when we look at the Libyan policy of recent time we must conclude that a ‘failure’ is indeed a success for the Great Satan. Conditions in Libya are worse now than at anytime in decades but we do not see this issue featured in western news. Therefore, there maybe no difference between failure and success. More precisely, we are guided that the resulting confusion, supporting terrorist and the likes represent success for America and its lackeys.

    The problems in the ME are rooted in two simple facts:

    1. None of these countries existed until the Turks lost control of the desert after WW1 to the British and the ‘Lion of the Desert’ T.E. Lawrence. The lines in the sand that created these countries bound villages, tribes and religions together that have been fighting for thousands of years and continue to do so.
    2. The West has made these unstable caliphates wealthy beyond imagination by buying their oil and thereby financing their warmongering.

    The Syrians are the most Aryan of the ME nations with the possible exception of what is left of Persia (Iran). The US and UK have satellite pictures of the artillery used to shell civilians with chemical weapons, the evidence is irrefutable. There will be a military strike to destroy artillery, ammunition stores and aircraft followed by a no-fly zone like in Libya. The Syrian businessmen in London and New York will rejoice.

    Yours is a simpleminded orientalist view. Nowhere in the world can be distilled in such terms. Syria of all places has a long and illustrious history and culture. We hope that you are aware of the literature on orientalism. We hope! There are a lot of question to be asked but we guess a mere businessman cannot be expected so to do.

    Are you saying that the House of Saud is a puppet regime propped up by the West?

    Would it be wise for us to analyze the ME potential cataclysm through the prism of Islam versus the West that could lead to Armageddon or should it be assessed through the filter of the filthy rich keeping the poor in their places whether in the West or in Saudi and the other Oil producing Gulf States?

    One wonders what the religious fundamentalists on opposite sides of bigoted spectrum of the Abrahamic faith have to say about the contradictions displayed by both the Saudi guardians of Islam and that of the Western leaders who preach ad nauseam about free speech, democracy, majority rule and rights of women and other “minority groups even those with morally suspect behaviours.

They see their arch enemy as the Shias in Iran, Lebanon and Iraq not the Zionists. Why do you think the Americans can send billions of dollars worth of arms to SA every year with the assurance that not one bullet will be aimed at the Zionists? What about Bahrain, occupied by the Saudis and not a word from the West, as they brutalize a largely Shia population. And the repression of the Shias in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia itself.     Are you implying here is that Russia, China and Iran are just ‘larking off’ with their diplomatic comics behaving like “blue arsed flies”?
    You don’t think we should be taking the rumblings of these superpowers-in-waiting nation states seriously?
    Would Russia with its current sour relationship with the West join an old communist comrade in arms and fight against the West over Syria a broken country with serious internal problems that have set it back over 100 years?

    Do you Frustrated businessman have a view on the role Israel is most likely playing in this potential conflagration? After all nothing can be done in the ME without Israel’s say so or acquiescence.

    You are certainly aware as a realist and businessman that an all-out war in the ME would have serious ramifications for SIDS especially Barbados which could see astronomical increases in the price of oil and petroleum-based products, significant drop in visitor arrivals and scarcities in basic items such as imported food.

    PS: You should take note that Syria was once part of a mighty collection of states that had their genesis in the cradle of human civilization called Sumeria formed in the fertile plains of Mesopotamia which gave mankind the first form of writing (cuneiform) and initiated the development of agriculture as we know it today, genetic modifications and all.

    Because we agree with certain aspects of so-called Western civilization, on balance, no pun intended, we disagree with most of what it has done to the world. Because we support certain aspects of other world cultures including the Chinese, the African and Persians and others, that should not be interpreted that we slavishly adhere to all aspects of those either.     if you put aside your anti-American bias and delve deeper into the world of geo-politics, you would be apprised of the true faces behind globalization, the new world order and world domination. despite the charade my friend, USA, china and Russia are very good friends who are focussed on the same objective. countries like Syria, Cuba , Panama, Grenada and Libya are just pawns in the game of turf protection. do you know that during the Cuban missile crisis that the Russian defence minister explicitly told comrade Fidel Castro not to expect any help if the USA invaded.     I did not realize the the rule was that long … I presume you are speaking about rule over Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. BTW I consider the Ottomans and Turks and Moors to be White, but that is just me treating to the fact that their skins are colored a hell of a lot differently to mine.

    Barbados at moment should not be concerned about the United States invading Syria or on-going conflicts standing between the United States, China and Russia.
