BU understands from a reliable source that former Associate Editor Roy Morris will be returning to the Nation newspaper in mid-September to take up the BIG job. The murky circumstances which led to his departure from Barbados’ leading newspaper appear to have dissipated with time.

Our source has confirmed that the coming of Morris was announced at a staff meeting yesterday by the Editor Emeritus. If the management and staff are welcoming of the man who developed a reputation of an expositor of the minibus sector, then BU joins them to welcome the return of Roy.

    I too heard this similar idea from a fellow Bajan while overseas, and that was late July – yet having viewed the Related Links, this idea still begs a number of issues? Is Morris now seeking counsel for his urges? What will become of Barbados Today? Wade Gibbons is Persona Non Grata at the Nation since Owen had him removed during his 2010 reign of terror in Fontabelle… What could make him leave such a potentially profitable exercise which challenges the current status quo of Bajan Media? What becomes of the staff at BT? Has he not then betrayed them?

    It’s time VivianneY-G, on a point of moral principle sever ties with the Nation and move on to more altruistic important goals in life like making the future trust a reality.
    You don’t have to feel indebted to King Harold or kill yourself meeting the profit targets set by T&T corporate slave drivers.

    But before you go VG let me say how a bit disappointed we are in you for not having the local knowledge to deal with small manageable matter s like cleaning up the Nation’s birthplace but could find the PR time and resources to deal with national issues in the capacity of chief honcho at the Future Trust.

    First lead by example and your credibility and integrity will shine lie a lighthouse of hope and trust.

    Innocent until proven guilty. Hearsay and innuendo doesn’t count.
    Don’t think BU will change the outcome so I guess he gets to be top Nation dog.

    However all should be aware that cell phones have video cameras as a Toronto cop found out when he fired 9 shots and killed a youngster on a bus.

    The proliferation of cell phones may prove to be deterrent for those who make bad choices.

    BU posted submissions on his matter which were received. If the Nation wants to give Roy the job despite past ‘issues’ that is between the management and staff to deal with. BU is not surprised, we are a passive people.

    I am sick of DLP sympathisers saying that Owen Arthur used his influence to force out Kaymar. Nothing is further from the truth.

    The problem was that there are too many qualified women at the top of the Nation and egos were the problem. Jealousy and back biting behind her back was what she had to endure. Kaymar is a very warm, caring and friendly person. The sour pusses did not like that nor that she was better qualified than some of them. In the end, she said either them or me should go. As she was not a favourite of the head lady, in the end, Kaymar was the one to go. Check all the top mangement at the Nation and you see it is truly staffed by all women.

    No offense but women can be the worse brutes to work with. If one woman wears a suit or a pair of shoes that the other one does not have, jealousy takes root.

    Leave Owen Arthur out of this!

    There is a huge problem we have overlooked. The nation newspaper and virtually all of the media fraternity in Barbados is in a shabby and dire state. Poor journalism everywhere. Poor ethics. Payola rampant. And to think we have would be rapists as editors. Poor stories. Stories that are begging to be done. I mean. Just look at the Stabroek news or any of the Trinidadian newspapers and draw a quick comparison. Our media stinks. Wrap up the newspapers in fish indeed. Except for some columnists, God knows you can hardly read them. And don’t tell me that Bajans need to be dumbed down or that tabloids need to be written a particular way. It depends on the tabloid doesn’t it? Just look at what Bajans read on Facebook. They read very important, intelligently written, analytical stories that they post everyday. Isn’t that saying something about the quality of news they are asking for.. our media needs to get with it. As for some of those announcers on CBC – heaven forbid. They sound as if they swallow frogs for dinner. Horrible.

    Okay okay … Barbados Shipping and Trading retires Allan Fields and brings in the tall fella Tony King from Neal & Massey Eastern Div to run things (yah would have to be deaf not to smell a dead rat lurking somewhere). When you hear the shout Tony sever people left, right and centre, and before yah could shout “Good C’rist”, Neal and Massey and BS&T became one and the same.

    Wunna don’ un’stand this beast called the Bajan business hear … ’causen there is one t’ing ’bout a dead rat that cannot be denied:- a dead rat always smells like a dead rat.

    Maybe Roy will take up where Kaymar left off regarding coverage of the CLICO matter in the region. There has been an obvious decrease in coverage.

    THE CABINET’s Finance and General Purpose Committee (FNGP) yesterday approved the proposed plan to replace the current shareholders agreement which gives the State authority to manage the assets of CL Financial (CLF).
    As such the matter is expected to return to Cabinet this week for decision, sources said yesterday. The FNGP met at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair, ahead of this week’s expiration of the current agreement. It is understood that the FNGP considered three options yesterday: 1) giving the company back to shareholders for them to sell; 2) making the company a State enterprise and 3) establishing an agreement with shareholders giving them managerial functions but for the purposes of repaying the State. It is understood the FNGP agreed with the third option. The State would hold a veto power over the disposal of assets and prices.

    Here is another story which the Nation can give wider coverage. Against the background that Barbados is the largest shareholder in LIAT. Then again the Nation is T&T owned.

    THE fuel subsidy now being enjoyed by State-owned Caribbean Airlines (CAL) is causing some uneasiness among different groups with connections to the airline. Since its formation in 2007, the airline has been benefitting from the subsidy which costs the Government millions of dollars. With the takeover of Air Jamaica two years ago those millions have almost been doubled to close to $400 million and are causing endless headaches to the company’s executives as well as senior government officials.

    “BEST” is a funny word. Hitler was also the “BEST” man to run Germany in 1934…..if by best you mean the person best able to transform a poor hopeless broken country into a conceited world power….

    “BEST” is represented by the complex resultant of a number of different performance characteristics and can be seriously compromised by major defects in any one of those characteristics.

    …a word to the wise is sufficient

    If indeed, after 60 years and billions of dollars investment in free education and human resources development in Barbados, this is our BEST resource for such a job, then we are indeed but a collection of brass bowls, – collectively incapable of benefiting from any real development beyond a temporary shine as is had from brasso…..

    It is not difficult to project a future for such a people in this challenging world…..

    Don’t be so hard on Roy. The facts are that like most men he was/is weak when it comes to young girls with their agendas pushing themselves up to married men. Most men would resist the approaches of these young things, some succumb with disastrous results as in Roy’s case.

    The girl was pushed to do cry rape by her mother after the mother told her to demand money and if she is to foolish to do what she did for nothing. The mother is just a bad woman. We need woman to be real parents and raise their daughters to respect their bodies and not sell them for money to buy frivolous things that do not matter.

    Proper parenting as well as men who should be role models and put these young girls in their place when they make advances. Responsibility is what is required!

    That is one preposterous claim that you have made which gives the pass to Roy and by extension other men who take advantage of young females that they have some kind of control over. How would you feel if your daughter e.g. was seduced/raped by her teacher would a defence of “she pushed she self at me” suffice?

    There have been other accusations against the individual and you are close to the scene perhaps you should open your eyes and ears and not try to provide moral protection to your associates.

    My daughter is properly raised, has strength of character, she does not have to look for others for material things, she knows who she is and what she wants. If you raise your children not to be materialistic, their sole aim to get money to buy “stuff” will not be a priority. In Roy’s case, this was the underlying factor.

    I think you missed the point of what I was saying. Adults need to be adults and put young girls in their place! Had Roy put this girl in her place, (she was dogging him from day one) he would not end up in the mess he put himself in.

    As usual, you know more than anyone else on everything!

    Perhaps it would make more sense if our UWI students, especially the females, would protest how young women are abused by adults, especially those who hold responsible positions.
