Edward Barrow stated to be a dishonest contractor
Edward Barrow stated to be a dishonest contractor

Edward Barrow, a Contractor is also a thief.

If you ask him about some of the extremely high prices he charges both for labour and materials, he then returns to the site while you are away and dismantles installments like cupboards and cabinets which were already built and paid for, and he takes them away. Under our law that is theft!

He overcharges for everything. He claims labour costs when that labour is working at another site so that. Barrows collects double wages and then he charges 25% contractor’s fee on top of that.

He demands money almost every week and does not place anyone on the site so that the work grinds to a halt while he holds your cash.

Home owners BEWARE!

I have personal knowledge of a straight forward and non contentious Will, and Probate filed in 2002.It took 7 years repeat 7 years to resolution. If Columbus came back,he would recognise many aspects of Barbados.

I would bet all the tea in China that this Barrow dude is a supporter of the Barbados Labour Party.

I recall that during the last elections campaign that I saw a lot of former UDC “contractors” canvassing for the Barbados Labour Party.

I was under the impression that the much talk- about legislated Building Code would ,would ,at least , taken care of the shoddy work carried out by these fly by night contractors.

  6. The construction problem is in every country When times are good you have never seen so many flash trucks with names blazened across them everybody is a contractor , there is so much work out there, the dependable good workmen are in such high demand if you are not willing to wait you fall prey to the fly by night people who will do the job right away for an extra cost but usually in a cheap and shoddy manner. When times are bad the dependable people are usually more expensive so you end up with the fly by night people again who will do the job for less , but this time they take your money a never finish the job. Whats the answer no money up front …..,progress payments……. 10% hold back for one year to make sure they come back for any thing that is not correct (and there will be some) cracks, leaks etc this is normal when buildings settle Make your own deal on big ticket items with suppliers, what you think is a bathtub and what the contractor thinks may be different .If someone needs every penny from the job right away he is in trouble, beware Their suppliers give them 60 days he can start the job with no real cost to him.

I checked their web site http://www.t-tlaw.com, and patents are not their thing. I’m pretty sure, though, that they would recommend a firm that specialises in patents. It’s worth a try.

Like the idea of recording (given the proliferation of smart phones/devices) interactions with tradesmen but it begs the question whether such ‘evidence’ would be enforceable in local courts.

David@The court of Law will have to be the People in the street , No courts , no law in Barbados , Just crooks having there own way with the people ,When the crooks are recorded and then lie , and caught red handed then we have proof and justice.

  11. Faith Marshall Harris should be ashamed of herself for making such a defamatory statement against Edward Barrow. First of all from very reliable sources she claims not to be the author of this defamatory statement, however, her email address were revealed in a certain inbox containing the message and her name were tagged to the message:

Furthermore… Mr. Barrow I would get a lawyer and sue for damages because this is clearly a defamatory statement made with the intention to ruin your reputation. And finally because works completed were not on par to what an individual wants does not make them a thief. The cats out of the bag.

  12. @Noname

You should not comment about things you know knowing about.

  13. Once something has been installed it becomes part of the building, the contractor can sue, put a mechanics lien on the property but returning to remove cabinets etc would be considered theft ,and a trespassing charge may be in the cards

  14. Dear David… When you are ready to start your consumer feedback channel, I will help you.

  16. What? Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Blog on this site calling Edward Barrow a thief. What about Owen Arthur, Mia Mottley, Gline Clark, Sir Richard Cheltenham, Charles O. Williams, Mark Cummings and Samantha Cummings and more???

  17. @David

You would be surprised as to how much is known. Especially when it is occurring right under my nose. So therefore I can comment. Even you welcomed the old hag when she posted this message. So therefore, maybe you should take your own advice and not comment on things you know nothing about.

  18. @David June 11, 2013 at 7:54 AM…”The only true way would be to bring in a PM from outside of Barbados”

Dear David: Do you mean a foreign project manager? I have to tell you a little secret. Foreigners are dishonest, lazy and incompetent too.

However if you meant bringing in a Prime Minister from overseas…I like I like that idea yeah!

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. I also had issues with a so call contractor in Barbados, (Evergreen Construction & Architectural Services Inc.) Managed by Roy Kirton even had a contract, first year everything seems to be going well, getting pictures, weekly communications then all of a sudden no pictures. Even had a quantity surveyor checking on the work. This company didn’t even know how to read a blueprint, a lot of mistakes were made, and I eventually fired him, but he had bilked me out of over a hundred thousand dollars BBD, and using materials that were meant for my resident towards other work that he was doing. I have been trying for the past year to hire an attorney, but it seems as thought they aren’t interested.

  20. @Andrew Stoute

How did you go about selecting the contractor?

  21. Piece the Legend Avatar

    @ the Honourable Blogmaster

That is a very good question insofar as the availability of information about the competencies of

    1.a contractor
    2.lawyer
    3.doctor or
    4.any artisan

Remains part of THE BLACK HOLE of information about bajan professionals THAT HAS, AND WILL, CONTINUE TO BESEIGE THE effective rating of so called skilled professionals

The client who AT 2020, is still picking a provider based juzt on word of mouth, HAS TO TEK WHAT DEM GET!

    @ Andrew Stoute

    You said and I quote

“…I have been trying for the past year to hire an attorney, but it seems as thought they aren’t interested…”

A few things are to be considered here.

1.who is Roy Kirton and Evergreen Construction?

    2.what is dem connections?

3.what does such legal matter involve? In a nutshell, how easily can you prove this case with your documentation and expert witnesses?

4.which lawyer has the competencies to adjudicate your matter effectively

5.Will Roy Kirton be able to repay you your $100K and legal fees?

6.how long will the matter take?

THIS IS WHY A NATIONAL REPUTATION SERVICE is critical for these types of transations

  22. In the absence of a credible source to verify, validate the bona fides of a contractor, at minimum the principals would have to point to recent construction, a bank reference and testimonials from two or three customers. The point is accepted a system to assist consumers should be available.

  23. To some this is just one of in the extensive collection of sad stories. To us who are outside of the island and thinking of returning, these stories are dire warnings of how things can go wrong.

To no-one in particular, some will rush and cite chapter and verse of the laws/rules/systems/organizations in place to protect the consumer, but I wish to repeat that we want the bells and whistles to  work.

We need more than lip service and warm bodies/place holders in positions.

The fact that the gentleman had a “quantitity surveyor” suggests to me that he took the usual steps of obtaining references and examples. Sadly, references can be bought or can be part of a scam; construction companies are known to provide examples of other companies work as their own.

Separation of a returning national from his money or his property prefers to be a well polished art on the island. Indeed, it may be one of the strongest urges there is.

Long after the tourist are gone, there will be some ‘foolish Bajan’ who wants to return home. That egg may not be golden, but don’t kill the goose.

  24. Don’t you find it strange that in a small country with almost 1100 lawyers/attorney that the gentleman is unable to hire a legal professional.

Is the legal society like a brotherhood?

I put attorney/lawyer although I wanted to just write lawyer. I could see someone lecturing me on the difference between a lawyer and an attorney. Sometimes we ignore the major issue and focus on very small things.
