Angelina Jolie

Over the past few days the corporate, global, propaganda media have been glorifying the ‘self immolation’ of Angelina Jolie as brave and an answer to breast cancer for the women of the world. We consider that Jolie is being turned into a buffoon by the corporate media. Such a person should be receiving our well wishes and not be projected, for ratings etc, for some kind of perverted virtuousness. The simple truth, to this complex issue, is that merely cutting off body parts is not an answer for cancer. For the biochemistry of a human body does not build a fire wall between breast tissue and the rest of the body. The media promotion of double mastectomy as a viable solution is dangerous and has implication for all the women of the world, especially young girls, and sets a staggeringly new (low) standard in the pervasiveness of a new corporate culture – a culture that will be coming to a clinic near you, real soon.

The medical establishment has failed for decades to find their elusive cure to any cancer. In the interim that medical industrial complex continues to profit from the suffering of mankind. Sometimes their treatment modality is worse than the disease itself. We have a case, not in Barbados, where an 83 years old woman was being encouraged by a doctor to have a $500K operation to remove a clot from her brain. We can present hundreds of cases like this one. Where is this money going? Have conventional doctors everywhere loss their ability to care? Why is the patient not the most important person in the health care system? To what extent do medical practitioners answerable to pharmaceutical and other corporate interests? To what extent are we prepared to commodify medicine? Are we prepared to see old people die in the service of corporates? It is this same medical industrial complex that seeks to profit by inventing new diseases like AIDS, SARS, etc. The media supports conventional medicine as a Holy Grail. To them this is beyond question. Doctors are used to giving patients drugs without even a good understanding about their testing, trial and general efficacy. No wonder 120K people die every year in the USA from the effects of pharmaceutical drugs alone. Hundreds of thousands more die as a result of other medical errors. When the food industry is working hand and glove with the medical industry to manufacture an endless line of sick people by feeding them what Professor Pollen has called ‘edible substances’, like Purity Bakeries bread, which can stay ‘fresh’ for years without organic growths.

Our central argument is that all life systems have been so transformed by industrialization, scientific enquiry and capitalism more generally, that we are killing ourselves by things we do every day. Breast cancer is a symptom of this generalized sickness we have wrought on Pachamama. Establishment media, the medical industrial complex and the powers that be, have little interest in the promotion of or mass integration of alternative treatment modalities. In Barbados and the Caribbean, we will find only a few studies of local plants, herbs and shrubs like bush tea in the pharmacopeia offered to Caribbean patients. Even when we know that the current medical system is not sustainable we refuse to seriously consider a non-Eurocentric, a non-commercial, a non-industrial, a non-corporate health care system that is naturally based, scientific and affordable for the country. We are yet to learn how to prevent people from suffering in the hospitals in the Caribbean in circumstances where ordinary working people largely pay to educate ‘health care workers’. The media’s determination to promote Jolie’s double mastectomy as a solution is destructive of women, womanhood and the men who love them. This destruction happens on a corporate alter of greed and is a testimony to the wider disintegration of ‘Western Civilization’. A disintegration not unlike what happened at the fall of the Roman Empire.

Yes, integrative medicine draws on all models. Lifestyles could be transformed in ways to prevent and reverse illness and promote wellness. And yes, there are some quacks out there but in the main the alternative wellness movement has come a long way over decades. And yes, the outcomes for terminal patients are not always better than conventional practices but prevention is the key concept. Holistic living considers all the forces in our environment that make us well or unwell – whether these are political, social, technological, economic, legal, the physical environment. Preventive and integrative medicine deals with the state of the mind, the conformity of mind and body, the emotional self, respect for ALL living things, and so on. Conventional treatment methods have a lot to learn from these old aged and newer modalities. The media will be better placed, if it is to serve the people for a change, in breaking this unhealthy status quo.

That the mainstream corporate media, the medical industrial complex and their agents should seek, with the well worn attitude that all media is good, to promote double mastectomy as an answer to a real and pernicious ailment that has afflicted, mainly women but also a few men, suggests to this writer that we have reached a new low as a society, a human society. This ‘solution’ ignores the failures of the medical industry over decades; it ignores decades of pain and suffering of our mothers, sisters and daughters; it absolves the industry from the billions they have squandered looking for an elusive ‘cure’; it rationalizes an unacceptable normalcy; it refuses to go to the underlying causation/s of cancer. We contend that those answers are likely to be better found in a generalized holistic approach to life and living that sees no distinction between food and medicine and integrative medical care for the ill.

“There have been reports of alternative medicines, natural herbal remedies aiding in the death of cancer cells, it is not in the best interest of the same greedy corporations that this become widespread knowledge, most people, particularly in the Caribbean love to thumb their noses at natural remedies and prefer see the doctor, get some pills for diabetes, blood pressure etc and 20 years later their kidneys have been destroyed by the side effects of the daily usage of their chemically contained pills..”

Couldn’t agree with you more! One can understand why politicians in the Caribbean will not allow their own people to freely grow and use plants such as cannabis and coca in their natural state for medicinal and healing purposes. Pachamama would agree that chewing the coca leaves at ‘high’ altitudes does the world of good for those who live in such challenging climatic conditions.

The pharmaceutical industry whose businesses are based on synthetic processes is massively generating billions in profits for capitalist investors. There is nowhere that corporate greed would allow easily bribed politicians to challenge the dominance of these patented drug barons.
The profits of this industry are so massive that many Mafia-type charlatans are flooding the markets especially in the Third World with serious dangerous counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Nigeria is a well-known player and peddler of these fake medicines.

Don’t be surprised if similar scams involving fake drugs are not operating in Barbados. Bajans are known to be born hypochondriacs who see the local quacks posing as doctors to be godlike and magical once they can get a prescription from them. It would come as no surprise if many of the pharmaceuticals imported into Bim are from unregulated manufacturing locations and whose pharmacological credentials can be most suspect if not downright dangerous to human health.

Cheap things are not always good. It is indeed questionable why a “reputable” pharmaceutical company would continue to produce and market a brand name drug at a much higher price when we the Bajan suckers are told the generic equivalent is just as good as the brand-name version.
If the generic drugs imported into Barbados to manage diabetes and hypertension are indeed just as effective but cheaper why import the brand name version that only the well-off can afford. Why waste foreign exchange?

Of course, we’ve had coca leaf several times when visiting our friends in Bolivia, traveling in the mountains. We don’t recognize anybody’s right to ban ANY ‘natural’ plant, although we accept the argument that the misuse of any substance could be harmful. We also accept that there is a difference between cocaine and coca leaf.

It is amazing that the lady made a decision on her body and we are hearing about conspiracy theory. As an adult, she can make any decision she wants. When a decision of that nature is to be made, your loved ones are normallyinvolved.

All the men on this blog should be encouraging their male buddies to get their annual checkup.

  6. David having read a lot of remarks not only on this thread lately may I suggest that some of your contributers if they are encourage to go for a colonoscopy remember to bring a big black majic marker…so they can write on their chest this end up.

It is normal for people to pontificate from arms distance about occurrences such as this until it strikes close to home.

Miller, it has happened already that is what generic drugs are, inferior quality and pure garbage, designed to kill.

Barbadian………….people did not realize that the conspiracy is an ongoing thing, it never stopped, we are the ones who have to change the rhythm, no one is stopping us from doing it…………….the conspiracy is so old, the players must now be tired and exhausted from it’s success…………..we need to look past the conspiracy and see what is best for us as a people to move forward.

  9. Tommy Chong Beats Prostate Cancer with Hemp Oil and Proper Diet

Last June, the famous comedian, actor and pro-marijuana legalization advocate, Tommy Chong, reported to the world that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer and that he was seeking unconventional treatment using Cannabis Oil. Almost one year later, Tommy is feeling better than ever and is cancer free.

Tommy’s recent announcement, in a blog post, about his successful battle with cancer is a huge boon to those battling this illness and many others, and also for those fighting for the common-sensical liberation of this promising natural medicine:

“After I came out with the news last June that a cancer doctor told me I had prostrate cancer and suggested a high frequency treatment that is not approved in America and could only be done in Mexico at the cost of $25,000, I immediately looked at alternatives. I contacted my nephew in Vancouver, who was about to become a doctor, and he suggested I meet with a Dr. McKinnon in Victoria, BC. That doctor changed my diet and put me on supplements, and within a year I brought my PSA numbers down drastically and eliminated the cancer threat. I also treated the condition with hemp oil (hash oil). With the diet, the supplements and the hash oil, plus a session with a world-renowned healer, Adam Dreamhealer, I’m cancer-free. That’s right, I kicked cancer’s ass! So the magic plant does cure cancer with the right diet and supplements. I’m due for another blood test, MRI, etc., but I feel the best I’ve felt in years. And now for a celebration joint of the finest Kush…”

This case, and Tommy’s choice to seek this alternative, but, viable and natural treatment, highlight how important the battle for legalization is for many people sick with ailments that can be treated effectively without damaging invasive procedures or expensive and debilitating regiments of chemotherapy, radiation and pharmaceuticals. There is much more to legalization than people just wanting to get ‘high’. As Tommy stated in 2012:

    NOT TRUE ABOUT GENERIC DRUGS
BRAND NAME PRODUCERS MARKET OFTEN THIER DRUGS AS GENERICS AFTER THE PATENT PERIOD IS OVER

E,G SQUIBB USED TO SELL A VERY CHEAP AND EFFECTIVE TETRACYCLINE CALLED SUMYCIN

NOTE THAT ALL DRUGS HAVE A GENERIC OR CHEMICAL NAME E.G PARACETAMOL, LORAZEPAM

  11. This presentation by Doc GP should help to keep the view about generic drugs on track.

  12. GP……………the side effects from these generic drugs cannot be equaled, maybe doctors have different opinions on the quality, but some doctors would much prefer not prescribed generic drugs for their patients.

  13. One of the most certain facts of life is that each one of us will die.

Knowing this, …what is this obsession of ours with extending our short sojourn here by a few months or years at all cost? ….while at the same time almost deliberately avoiding any serious discourse on what constitutes a SUCCESSFUL period of existence?

Perhaps as few as 30 years of life can be enough to FULLY exploit the TRUE potential of this clearly temporary existence we call life.
Surely if after 60 years we are at a complete loss as to a meaningful purpose for our lives, another 10 years of doing the same things will not produce any different results….

We were designed to last about 70 years. Nothing yet discovered by man comes close to the bodies INBUILT defence systems in protecting the body for this period.
Between the bodies ingenious defences and the natural products of nature, everything needed for a healthy 90 years is provided.

The medical industry has some excellent aspects, but it has become a commercial-industrial behemoth that now thrives on the poor health and bad habits of its victims.
Bad food, leading to bad health, leading to bad medicine is a perfect recepie for a massive financial empire….

A Sick country means rich doctors, rich pharmacists and thriving medical industries.
A healthy country means rich farmers, poor doctors…..

In the final analysis however….it is of much more importance that the short time of our lives be used to realize our TRUE long term potential, than that our time be long, or smooth, or perfect or healthy. This is why it is REALLY a blessing to be poor and not so distracted by the shadows and the smoke of living, that we miss the REAL opportunity for LIVING….

Angelina is too rich and too pretty for her own good….

    LOL
She could distract Bushie from Islandgal any day… 🙂

  14. While evaluating conventional and non-conventional options for treating diseases, the non-conventional medical practitioners of alternative medicine are often written off by the more orthodox, mainstream medical authorities as useless quacks often putting their patients’ health in increased danger rather than making them better. The frequently heard objection is that these alternative practitioners do not have the necessary scientific studies backing their work, unlike the thorough, scientific approach taken to evaluating drugs and treatment modalities in mainstream medicine. Patients are therefore advised that the sensible approach is to stick with the tried and true, “scientifically backed” medicine as practiced by the orthodox medical establishment. However, it looks like the distinction might not be as clear cut in all cases as they would like you to believe. See below;

Marcia Angell, a former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, in 2009 stated: “It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.”

Former FDA Reviewer Speaks Out About Intimidation, Retaliation and Marginalizing of Safety

    Truthout 29 July 2012

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is often accused of serving industry at the expense of consumers. But even FDA defenders are shocked by reports this week of an institutionalized FDA spying program on its own scientists, lawmakers, reporters and academics that included an enemies list of “actors” and collaborators.

The paranoid and retaliatory email monitoring program, which sought to suppress the safety opinions of those hired to give their safety opinions, has provoked swift action from Capitol Hill. “I am writing to express my disappointment and disbelief with the way the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has retaliated against whistleblowers who expressed concern to Members of Congress and the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) regarding safety concerns about medical products,” wrote Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, to FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg, the day after the breadth of the surveillance was reported in The New York Times.

    snip

During the same time period, Ronald Kavanagh B.S.Pharm., Pharm.D, Ph.D., an FDA drug reviewer in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, encountered similar intimidation and suppression of safety research. Truthout met with Dr. Kavanagh on several occasions to learn about his FDA whistleblowing experiences.

Martha Rosenberg for Truthout: You were an FDA drug reviewer from 1998 to 2008, working on well-known drugs like Cymbalta, Zyprexa, Concerta, Invega, Provigil and Saphris, and encountered the same kind of coercive working environment as the device reviewers.

Ronald Kavanagh: That’s correct. In the Center for Drugs [Center for Drug Evaluation and Research or CDER], as in the Center for Devices, the honest employee fears the dishonest employee. There is also irrefutable evidence that managers at CDER have placed the nation at risk by corrupting the evaluation of drugs and by interfering with our ability to ensure the safety and efficacy of drugs. While I was at FDA, drug reviewers were clearly told not to question drug companies and that our job was to approve drugs. We were prevented, except in rare instances, from presenting findings at advisory committees. In 2007, formal policies were instituted so that speaking in any way that could reflect poorly on the agency could result in termination. If we asked questions that could delay or prevent a drug’s approval – which of course was our job as drug reviewers – management would reprimand us, reassign us, hold secret meetings about us, and worse. Obviously in such an environment, people will self-censor.

  16. There is now a $800,000,000 class action law suit regarding an approved birth control pill that because of utter carelessness has now caused tons of women to get pregnant, babies they cannot afford because people are now realizing that it takes millions of dollars to raise one child in todays world. There is pressure to approve this new fangled drugs, but later you hear about all the death and destruction, recalls and class action lawsuits.

Angeline’s doctor said she made a wise decision and every case should be dealt with on its merit. Saw him on tv today speaking live.

  18. Yes Greenie, except possibly for emergency medicine, we should be skeptical about this conventional medical industry. We are near the alternative/integrative movement and we can tell you that the serious players are publishing thousands of peer reviewed scientific studies on natural substances as the basis of their practices. These include double-blind studies and so on. A high level of maturity has been achieved.

  30. I agree but some people feel if certain parts of their anatomy is lost they become less of a person that may be a stumbling block to getting needed treatment, what they forget is beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is commendable her husband seems even more in awe of her because of her discision. Strange how changes in one person cannot destroy the love of another. An article I read 3 weeks ago ,a man kept his wife in the home six months after she had passed away, by his accounts the sex was the same but the laundry kept piling up.
