In Barbados many think of the healthcare sector has those services delivered by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and to a lesser degree, the polyclinics. This is wrong. The video provided (16 min) is worth watching to dispel such thinking. As an educated nation in 2013 we need to keep pace with how progressive countries are managing healthcare to deliver a QUALITY result.

    “Jack
GP is for real do not be put off by his style; he knows his stuff. But in your ignorance you do not even know that biochemists and micorbiologists know more about the human system than trained doctors.”

Possibly true, but at least in my ignorance I know how to not misspell, twice, “microbiologists”.

  2. Jack
Don’t you know that I am a twit. Why would you expect me to spell correctly or know any thing about the rudiments of grammar. When I used the word ignorance I meant medically Jack. That is something that few people know about the true ability of micorbiologists. Thanks for the lesson in spelling Jack. Maybe in googling I got my stuff all messed up.

    Relax

  4. Jack
I missed that since last week you have gotten your medical degree. Congratulations.

I honestly believe that the healthcare system in Barbados can be overhaul overnight; I’ve seen it done in numerous facilities. And I am quite confident that it can as well be accomplished here in Barbados. The question is; however, does the government of Barbados have financial resources to undertake a task of this magnitude?

  6. @Jack Bowman
Jusst had a thought for a slogan on a T Shirt: “Microbiologists see things that others do not/”
Mr. TED talked foolishness/ How often would the ordinary layman be required to conduct ultrasound testing on himj/her self to justify the purchase of this type of equipment?

  7. Mr. Clyde Mascoll, in his column in today’s Thursday Nation Newspaper, writes about a prized set of cutlery that is kept by a family unit until a special occasion arises when its uses becomes available by the said family. While Mr. Mascoll compares this with the foreign reserves of the government of Barbados – and which is said to be so many hundreds of millions in Barbados dollars by the Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados – they are yet still – according to him – accumulating but not being utilized (what soporific nonsense!!!) While Mascoll’s attempt to write in this metaphorical allegoric manner falls short of the standard expected by the PDC as a supposed intellectual leader it is clear that Mascoll has accepted this false notion that there is about BDS $ 1.4 billion in foreign reserves ( 2013 Central Bank Report on the Barbados political economy’s performance for the first quarter), and that he has therefore conveyed to the readers of his missive the unspoken impression that there are about BDS $ 1.4 billion in foreign reserves. .Mascoll and the Central Bank’s are indeed publishing totally false, erroneous and misleading impressions. The fact of the matter is that the Barbados Government does not even have as many as BDS $200 million in foreign reserves in its possession. Hence, the reason why – as Mascoll relates in his said column – the Minister of Finance and the Governor has jetted off to New York to borrow $ 350 million (US or BDS?), because there are not that many foreign reserves in Barbados’ possession as Mascoll, this DLP Government and the Governor of the Central Bank want many Barbadians believe. It is therefore a bare-faced lie for the Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados or any body else to suggest that the government of Barbados has so many foreign reserves!!

  8. If we did not sell Emera plus Republic shares what would our forex position be like? Selling assets to boost forex and not through growth, where are we?

  9. “Selling assets to boost forex and not through growth where are we?”

Living on borrowed time David and it will catch up with us when we do not have any more family silver to pawn.

  10. We suggest how forward and educated a Nation we are and then one reads the quality of our thoughts in the contributions to this blog. I read the 81 year old persons contribution to the video and I agree fully with his comments; there is nothing I can add to support or contradict his comments, well said. What always amazes me is that some of these bloggers cannot stand up and be counted in the face of scrutiny and contradiction, they hide behind aliases and castigate the reputation of persons e.g Dr Hillary Beckles, who are stepping up and seeking to make a difference in our land. I’m certain that Dr. Beckles or anyone else who is above board will be more than willing to engage in an open discussion relative to their performance and accountability on any issue but not when the commentators are hiding and making spurious accusations which have no substance and is not supported by evidence; you should not be afraid to call out these persons and have them support/justify their positions. Some of us Barbadians need a world view rather than the myopic vision which some of us have and share among our friends, associates and colleagues.

  11. David, it is pleasure being back on this blogsite. It is only recently that we have been back on here. Since last september and up to this week were not on here. During our stint away we have deepened and broadened our ideologies and philosophies in greater ways along certain lines. For instance, we can tell you that the COST OF USE OF US DOLLARS IN BARBADOS AT THIS JUNCTURE HAS REACHED OVER 79 per cent. As such this means that it is costing over 79 per cent of our incomes, payments and transfers to use every US Dollar here in Barbados. The more the government and private sector interests in Barbados get transferred to them US dollars from foreign sources and that they have to give to them at later points in time in equivalent and other amounts, the higher the HIGHER THE COST OF USE OF US DOLLARS IN BARBADOS AT THIS JUNCTURE. The higher the cost of use of US dollars go in Barbados, the greater the implications are for the significant increasing in domestic costs to our incomes, payments and transfers esp at those points in time when Barbadians are going to be importing more goods and services. The greatest advantage that was derived to the people of Barbados from the use of the foreign exchange that was got through the transfer of use of such dollars by Emera and Republic Bank to the Barbados government has been its contributing to our paying for the Barbadian people’s use of US dollars here in Barbados and elsewhere.

  12. Good to see you out and about PDC.

  13. The wonders of modern science:

A kidney “grown” in the laboratory has been transplanted into animals where it started to produce urine, US scientists say.
Similar techniques to make simple body parts have already been used in patients, but the kidney is one of the most complicated organs made so far.
