Shanique Myrie
Shanique Myrie

The Shanique Myrie matter is currently being heard before the Caribbean Court of Appeal (CCJ) and is being followed closely by BU. Frankly it appears both sides have been …  By showing itself to be an itinerant court it shows how the CCJ is configured to deliver justice in a region which may require such flexibility given our geographic and economic diversity.

Something however has bothered the BU household since the Shanique Myrie vs Barbados matter with  Jamaica subsequently given permission to intervene. While the CCJ has the jurisdiction to hear an original application dealing with the Treaty of Chaguramas, it does not have the jurisdiction to hear an original application dealing with the civil and criminal cases of assault. BU’s view of the matter is that the alleged assault took place in Barbados and therefore must be heard before the Barbados courts.

Unfortunately we do not get enough debate in the media about matters related to law and how it relates to the day to day life of Barbadians. BU has blogged several times on the subject of adding basic law to the curriculum in our primary and secondary schools. Seized with understanding basic legal concepts will instil our people with more confidence to understand and challenge simple agreements which have become a routine part of living our lifes.

The BU family is comprised of legal minds and the BU household is willing to learn and be guided on this matter from the likes of Jeff Cumberbatch and the gang.

  11. Lemmie ….please address me properly Baroness Islandgal!

  12. Jamaica has been able to weave this story together connecting many missing gaps which would suggest a ” coverup” and for refusal of entry of Myrie to Barbados i do believe that the CCJ after much review wil side with Jamaica.

  13. This story have the makings of a “blockbuster movie” with a host of interesting and sinister events and two key stone cops .

  14. Oh no, ac, why would the CCJ side with Jamaica? Roger Forde QC on behalf of the Barbados government delivered some theatrical, knock-out performances during the trials here in Bim and Jamaica. He was so good that Sir Dennis Byron had to warn him at the sitting in Jamaica that he, Forde would not be allowed to “ambush” his, Byron court. That says a lot about the arrogance of Forde. I don’t Sir Dennis was amused. To add insult to injury, at the sitting in Barbados, Nancy Anderson of Jamaica raised the point about apparent similarity between the 2 police witness statements. Roger Forde got up and allowed the court to know that it is because Bajans are bright people. Don’t think the panel of non-Bajan judges were amused.

ac, why didn’t participate so that Barbados would get the highest level of expertise in this area, or you were too busy “supping up” to get a QC pick?

  20. Defending the indefensible.

Irregardless of the (questionable) competencies and legal prowess of Roger Forde and Pat Cheltenham a blind man could see that the ignoramuses that the are representing are not DaVincis

Which irrespective of the outcome of the case should inform the ingrunt Bajan Authorities that if they don’t change up the complement of staffing at Immigration and Customs any other whore, undesirable or woman coming to Barbados can claim that they get feel up at the airport and have a similar thing happen.

Imagine me a drug baron in Jamaica investing in some drug mules right now and sending my bevy of Shanique Myrie lookalikes to BIM confident that the Chief Immigration Officer still has our ports manned by Dufus and Elmer Fudd.

Dr The Honorable is right when he makes outlandish statements like you only have to be in the top niche or idiocy and cretinism to get leading managerial position in Barbados case in point Patrick Todd former Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister.

I almost mentioned Chris Sinkliar name but I am reserving that submission for the when David[BU] puts up his blog on “Betrayals – How to Destroy Civil Society Organisations like Pinelands – a la Sinkliar style”

  21. Now a stry of this kind can “make good” for a local writer/producer in the cultural industry wanting to make it big in the flim industry in barbados. it is very salacious and reeks of sinisterism .also very captivating with mind boggling events bodering on the line from sublime to the ridiculous………Truly a million dollar story indeed.

  22. Cussing the woman isn, t going to change the fact that a “keystone cop on a “hunch” most likely might have tarnished the image of barbados custom officials and a million dollar fine

  24. The comments here are disgusting and distasteful .How is it that when black woman complain of being treated with disrepect verbaly or physical the are those among the male gender who resorts to name calling and female bashing of the lowest denominator. i submit that if this was a white female the comments would have been more supportive and sensitive to their cause.

  25. AC….I thought I was the only one trying to defend the woman. Many who are calling this woman a whore show how little respect they have for women. It is why many women who have been assaulted refuse to bring charges because of the type of behaviour exhibited here. In the Middle East a female who is sexually assaulted is always accused of being a whore and blamed. Sexual assault is very difficult to prove and with the mentality I see emerging from this blog tells me that they mirror some of those Middle Eastern people.

  26. Islan gal it is more than about this one woman this kind of thinking premeates the black man and its relation to woman of color. Catergoritally speaking these men should be cast as “wild boars

  27. hide yr selves and bash other people.talk is very cheap.there is a saying, court house and street talk, two different thing

  28. Could anyone please explain this to me since I am slow of mind.

Ms. Shanique Myrie, citizen of Jamaica, and CARICOM denizen, while travelling to Barbados, purports to have been inappropriately searched by Barbadian Immigration (and thereafter denied the right to move/reside in Barbados as allowed for under the RTOC.

Within mere weeks of her claim, her government equips her with its premiere lawyers and she brings her case to the CCJ where the Government of Barbados brings it legal luminaries to fight on behalf of its Immigration Officials.

David Weekes, citizen of Barbados, CARICOM citizen, brings a case of breach of contract against CARICOM in 2007 and here in 2013, still cannot get a date for his case.

Furthermore, said file 191/2007 goes missing from the spanking new facility at Country Road and cannot be found even up to today.

Weekes, after seeking audience with the Attorney 2 General of Barbados, for what was easily two years, to get the support of his government, as Myrie may have done in her purported indecent search, is unceremoniously thrown from the Office of the Attorney General in Wildey.

In fact I recall how I was told that “security will escort me from the AG’s office” if i don’t leave.

All i was asking for then was for the Office of the AG to provide me with Notarized Copies of the Instruments of Ratification referenced in Article 233 of the Agreement to Enable the Entry into Force of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

Look at the irony of this case.

You have someone who is purported to be a lady of the night, seeking to visit Barbados for trade in the oldest profession in the world, stating that she was fondled by two Immigration Offices, reporting the incident to her government and securing the support of her GOJ.

I have a patented product, am plying a legal trade, cross borders in physical and cyberspace, to provide a border crossing solution which, barring knowing what is in the hearts of a man or woman, provides premiere pre-vetting capacity to Immigration officials re “undesirables” and or illicit activities.

In review, it is not really important if Myrie wins the case or not, what does stare us in the face is how, after placing all the elements on the table, do we arrive at an equation where one purported illegal activity gets the full support of a government while my issue makes me persona non grata??

Yet we wonder why Barbados is experiencing all of this social upheaval and previously unheard of crime?

You, the powers that be,are sowing the wind, so you have to reap the whirlwind

  29. @islandgirl246 and all other female readers of this blog.

Please note that i used the word purported re the alleged activities of Ms. Myrie.

  36. Some are happy to suggest that it is Barbados who is the biggest culprit. Let us sit back and wait for the hue and cry from the usual suspects. Perhaps not!
