After the phone hacking scandal which occurred in July 2011, the UK government commissioned a 2-part Inquiry to be headed by Lord Justice Leveson. The Inquiry was given a remit to “make recommendations on the future of press regulation and governance consistent with maintaining freedom of the press and ensuring the highest ethical and professional standards.” After nearly 1-year of investigating Lord Leveson’s report was published today.

The recommendations of the Leveson report will have implications for how the global media manages its affairs. BU notes that the role of blogs was covered in the report. BU also notes that the report which was made public today is widely accessible on the Internet.   The same CANNOT be stated about the government of Barbados which has laid the Alexandra Report in the House of Assembly BUT still the document remains elusive to taxpayers.

    When are you going to be convinced that our democracy is only a parody of what takes place in the United Kingdom. We have all of the institutions that would make the governance of this country look like a democracy. Unfortunately, they do not work. In Britain, Hansard is available by 8:00 a.m. following the days sitting. Presently, Hansard in this country is five years behind tIme. Also, when was the last time that you heard of a report from a select committee or any committee of Parliament. If you compare what takes place in other matured Westminster type parliamentary, Barbados should hold its head in shame.

    The working Committees of our parliament don’t work!

    Can you imagine the man held a press conference today and the same day the damn 1000 page report was made available to the public?

    If it were disbanded, we would not miss it: nothing happens to his report other than a few news stories. No one suffers any adverse the consequences for their wrongful actions.

    Caswell since you are a member of the press in association with the nation newspaper via your commentaries i am suggesting that the above statement be posted on every computer and desk at the nations newspaper ,it would do well to enhance their quality as recommended.

    wait am i wrong or don’t you have an association with the nation.or is what the recommendations suggest . well set the record straight.! in any case the recommendations also apply to you since your commentaries are well read in the nation and ethical practices should also be applied in your articles .think about it!

    I am not a member of the press. That should be reserved for journalist: I merely write a fortnightly column. On the matter of ethics, I write what I honestly believe is the truth and I do so without fear or favour.

    The Prime Minister has stated on more than one occasion that he made the St. Joseph Hospital Report public, is this so? A ministerial statement does not cut it!

    The Brits could teach us a thing or two about conducting public inquiries, every manjack with any association to the Press had to testify starting with the PM David Cameron. The Bobbies have laid charges against some of the biggest names in the Press including Rebecca Brooks who was part of the “horsey set” and on first name acquaintance with Cameron and Rupert Murdoch has slinked back to the US with his tail between his legs forever stymied in his quest to expand his media empire in Britain.

    My Independence wish would be to see an inquiry into the actions of everyone associated with CLICO both pre and post collapse starting with Gov’t officials ( including Ministers of Finance) as well as Executives of the Company.

    Will my wish be granted? Yes, when pigs fly.
