Middle East continues to be the flash point – Israel Hamas Conflict

And so it begins anew. After months of provocation, Israel strikes back against Hamas, only to be almost universally condemned as the aggressor. As I pen this letter (Nov. 17) how this latest drama will evolve is unknown, though I am certain it will not take long for the wilfully naive to again claim all Israel needs to do is return occupied land in order for peace to reign supreme. Unfortunately, those calling the shots in the Middle East and North Africa are groups I would refer to as Islamofascists who view Israel as a whole as occupied land.

Any student of history must see that there is something horribly familiar about today’s Islamist movement. Like the fascism of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco, Islamism is based on a cult of murderous violence that exalts death and destruction and despises the life of the mind. Both are bitterly nostalgic for past empires and lost glories and bent on avenging various historical humiliations at the hands of inherently inferior outsiders. The Islamists, like the Nazis, have a particular loathing of Jews, homosexuals and women. And for Islamists, as for fascists, the ultimate goal is to establish a vast, unconquerable territory—a “caliphate” the Jihadists call it—where their power and ideology will reign unchallenged.

Land for peace is a fiction promulgated by Islamists and credulously swallowed by most of the world. Three times in the last few decades Israel has withdrawn from territories it occupied. Anyone contemplating another withdrawal will inevitably look to what has happened in those places when considering a fourth withdrawal.

In 2005, Israel withdrew every Jewish settler and Israeli soldier from Gaza. There are exactly zero Jewish settlers or settlements in Gaza. But any hope that the end of the settlements signified the beginning of peace disappeared long ago. The border between Israel and Gaza remains a war zone with rockets being fired into Israel by Hamas and the Iran-backed Islamic Jihad organization almost from the time of the Israeli withdrawal.

Another territory from which Israel withdrew is southern Lebanon, where the radical Hezbollah Militia, Iran’s principal ally, holds about 50,000 missiles. Hezbollah fired thousands of missiles at northern Israel in 2006, and has sporadically fired missiles into Israel since. Today, the group stands shoulder to shoulder with the murderous regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as he slaughters Syrians calling for an end to his dictatorship.

Islamic apologists insist those two withdrawals did not produce peace because Israel withdrew without negotiating peace agreements. Ahem.
But consider Egypt, the country with which Israel did negotiate and sign a peace treaty. To those who insist that Israel would never exchange land for peace, it’s worth remembering that 30 years ago Israelis gave back to Egypt the Sinai Peninsula, three times the size of Israel’s entire territory, removing thousands of Israelis, and leaving behind natural gas fields, military installations and other facilities. All in exchange for a lasting peace.

In March, the newly elected Egyptian parliament, dominated by the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, made a symbolic—unanimous—vote to expel the Israeli ambassador and stop natural gas sales to Israel. The vote came in response to a parliamentary committee report that described Israel as Egypt’s “number one enemy” proclaiming that Egypt “will never be a friend” of Israel. It also pledged support to “all forms” of Palestinian “resistance” against Israel, a thinly-veiled endorsement of violence against Israeli civilians. Days ago Egyptian President Morsi dispatched his prime minister to Gaza in support of Hamas Islamofascists.

In just sixty years Israel has transformed the inhospitable land granted by the United Nations into a country rich in education, technology, culture and democratic principles, producing ten Nobel Laureates along the way. The barbarian sacking of Rome, during which I picture bands of uncultured and uneducated individuals wandering about the Roman Forum while picking lice off one another, presaged the coming of the Dark Age in Europe. If the world does not wake up to the existential threat posed by Islamofascism we may well witness similarly benighted bands picking their noses in the ruins of the Israeli Knesset, while the Middle East and North Africa continue their inexorable slide toward their own Dark Age.

  1. Further David et al, there is NO SUCH HOPE for any LASTING, so-called Peace in the Middle East. It is WAY too late for that, can’t you David, see, hear, and FEEL in your heart, mind, soul, every day in world news, that its panning out, exactly as God’s Word, the Bible says it would.

For God sake, man, wake up and smell the coffee, its brewing FAST, towards the BOILING OVER point, in world affairs, there IS NO TURING BACK, time is very short, and we AIN’T SEE nothing yet, talk about economic HELL, the worst is yet to come, just around the corner. And this is NOT being negative, this IS the REALITY of what’s coming down.

REPENT, and be Saved in Jesus Name, or suffer the eternal consequences in Hell!

  2. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed..

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.. The sand is everything else—the small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn.

Take care of the golf balls first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’ The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

  7. The problem with Zoe and GP seems to me that no one else can say anything they dont agree on and be seen as educated or important.
If you dont agree….you are branded as a mocker and a scoffer. By this same argument they are also mocking those that disagree but nooooo…they are the ‘educated’ ones on BU.
I have never seen so called Christians with so huge an ego as those on BU. Dictionary was the worst and he departed because he couldnt stand the fact that people have differing views.
Just because you may have a different opinion doesnt mean you are mocking or scoffing.
Just because Christians go through life by faith while others would rather see conclusive evidence, doesn’t make them scoffers….it shows that some people do think and ask questions as opposed to blindly following like sheep.
GP seems to think that unless you are at his level of education that you can’t have anything to contribute on BU, that everything else is nonsense. I have learnt a lot on BU as it pertains to this journey we call life. Every comment has its own merits.
If the content on BU is so poor, why read it or even comment….just move on the the highly educated blogs like Kairosfocus..where the 3 of you can have great intellectual convos until the rapture.

  8. @David

“Some are dumb for expressing an opinion about the conflict in the ME which has confounded the most intelligent through the ages? Carry on smartly Zoe.”

Yes David, everyone has an OPINION* and Opinions are like Anus’s everyone has ONE, and most people’s opinions are just like what comes out of an Anus, HOT-AIR, and excreta! Including “…the most intelligent through the ages?” Why is this so?

Because, opinions, and those coming from “…the most intelligent through the ages…” mean NOTHING, HOT-AIR, when they utterly dismiss, FACTS, evidence, and warranted TRUTH, in their opinionated CONFOUNDED, intellectual ignorance and arrogance.

You see David, “In today’s romance with Islamism, as in the twentieth century romances with communism and fascism, the believer must conceal his own malicious agenda from others – and from himself. Beliervers achieve the needed camouflage with a pattern of behaviour that we have seen before and can accurately label:

    THE DENIAL-EXCUSE-JUSTIFICATION SYNDROME.

  9. Zoe DEFINATELY needs some help.

    @ David,
Perhaps you can track Zoe down through his IP, or perhaps if he can email you his location, ….and we can arrange for some counseling…..? …after all he IS BU family…..

Bushie thinks that he has reached the tablet stage….. 🙁

  11. Informed rational freedom loving people have all the reasons in the world to fear islam. The twin fogs of political correctness & ignorance must be dispersed before western society better understands this menace. Even a brief review of islamic theology & history quickly exposes the deadly roots of this evil ideology.

Mohamhead was a 7th century murdering warlord who rose to power on a river of blood surrounded by thugs and gangsters using intimidation, violence, deception and trickery to expand their criminal empire while mercilessly suppressing and killing their opponents and enriching themselves on stolen booty.

The evil koran is a collection of sayings and speeches by this diabolical madman claiming divine guidance from some mythical sky-god which has inspired generations of crazed fanatics to abhorrent behavior resulting in historys worst ever crimes against humanity starting 1400 years ago and still continuing even today.

Islam is just another fascist totalitarian ideology used by power hungry fanatics on yet another quest for worldwide domination and includes all the usual human rights abuses & suppression of freedoms.

and some snappy infographics, great for emailing…
