President Obama in a dog fight to get reelected

And if getting turned away from the polls weren’t enough of an indignity, some of those 180 people ended up getting their cars towed from the parking lot across the street, according to a Miami Herald reporter.

Huffingtonpost

The world will again tune in to the outcome of the US Presidential Election 2012 on Tuesday. Obama intoxicated not only Americans with his message of hope in 2008 but the world.  A few short years later that message has dissipated and the latest polls show that Obama is in a statistical dead heat with Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

President Barack Obama promised the world so much. His historic elevation to the Oval Office captivated the world for those who dared to dream. His message to introduce change to Washington has failed and some suggest he did not even try. He appointed the same Wall Street faces he criticised when he was on the campaign trail in 2007. A look at his foreign policy – led by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton – paints a world still gripped in the turmoil Bush left it.

In the Caribbean many support Obama for re-election because historically Blacks have had a love affair with Democratic Party. This time around the support is stronger because the pigmentation of Obama makes him someone a predominantly Black region can identify. The questions some us who dare to ask is – Why should Americans vote for Obama? What has he done in four years to suggest as leader of the great USA he can change Washington and the world?

The performance of the US economy impacts how the global economy of which we are a part performs. In the case of Barbados there is growing pressure to defend the parity of the Barbados dollar which is hitched to the USD 2:1. BU’s interest in the US Presidential Election this week is about who at this juncture brings a policy approach that is likely to improve the global economy. So far Obama’s approach has been more of the same. Romney as a businessman appears to have achieved some success. Maybe he deserves a chance.

  1. @ Fractured

Is it not clear that if I said public sector jobs that I meant private sector jobs? Everyone knows you guys added a 2000 public sector jobs at a time when the economy was ailing.

  2. @ David

The times are different, but the point is still valid that inappropriate policies have contributed significantly to our current state of affairs. Not to forget that David Thompson laughed at the idea that there was an impending recession. This lack of preparedness put us in an initial tail spin.

No one ever said that conditions are great, but neither can anyone argue that the situation could not have been better managed?

So, David, please spare us your silliness.

    @ Fractured BLP | November 7, 2012 at 1:44 PM |

Now that DavidB has corrected his typing error tell us how many public sector workers were on the payroll at 31 December 2007and how many are on the payroll as at 31 October, 2012.

The dossier on Arthur won’t mount up to a hill of beans in the eyes of the electorate. January 2008 all over again with cheque and hardwood housing scandal to boot.
The only thing that would move the electorate in the direction of the DLP is if the Police charge OSA. And there is no integrity legislation to nail any politician. The existing legislation can only nail accounting officers who are civil servants. If you use the anti-money laundering legislation then Mr. Lashes who planted much stone and wood around Barbados would also be in the same fishnet.

OSA would have to be the ultimate fool to know that Freundel has such damaging and incriminating evidence against him and then turn around to collude with the same Freundel to denigrate the Nation newspaper by dismissing the invitation to the talkback session. This of course is what the man Freundel claimed to have happened unless he is vying to “out-lie” Sinckliar.

It would serve OSA right if he allows himself to be put in any corner since he should have nailed Darcy Boyce to the Pierhead marina mast for the sea gulls to eat at his corrupt flesh.

We would advise you, Fractured BLP, not to get between politicians from both sides of the political divide. You will be used, abused, and refused like an old yardfowl with a broken foot that not even a hungry mangy dog would look at for food.

  4. @DavidB

To use employment numbers of 6% is what is silly when we know this figure to be an outlier fueled by CWC2007 World Cup.

To mention 2.3 billion in reserves without mentioning the debt burden which has to be serviced in a depressed market is silly.

To have to improve physical infrastructure now and not then is silly.

To not execute public service reform in the good times while dishing out Knighthoods to about bosses is silly.

To not develop a waste to energy program in the good times is silly.

To not develop the cultural industry is silly.

Yes the DLP engage in BS but who is perfect.

In a world which continues to battle economic challenges incumbent governments and those in waiting continue to place their heads in the sand.

So far the government in waiting solution is to increase send and privatize. We await what is the vision to grow forex NOT borrow!

Frankly some of us are tired of the political BS.

  5. @Fractured
You are grasping at straws: St.Lucia, Jamaica, Bahamas!!

  6. @ David
The world cup finished in April 2007 and elections were held in January 2008. It was the policies of the government that caused increased unemployment.

  7. @enuff

You are more intelligent than your last comment. Was it not Arthur who warned the DLP of the economic challenge? Let us discuss the issues if we can without the obfuscation. Yes the DLP made mistakes but the question must be in the global context what was the best performance that could have been achieved. When the dust settles it is speculative there is no fact here. Both parties need to show rationale for decisions taken and those to come, the people will decide.

  8. don’t discount Occupy Wall Street influence in this election people were listening to them while the Republicans were laughing at them and taking their ques from the TEA BAGGERS

  9. @ac

The people voted for a Republican Congress and over 30 Republican governors, it was not a slam dunk.

  10. it was a Slam dunk for who ! a balance of power is good for democracy. however the overwhelming power goes to the presidency who enacts legislation note that with a republican presidency the same would not be true he would enact the legislation that favours those who supports him/her.the balance of power has been put in place and the people would be watching who is on their said not good for a republican congress times are a changing they can sit their and pretend until next elections come around then the people decides however i believe that the republicans have gotten the message and not about to take a chance. take a hint from the the gov of New Jersey he saw the writing on the wall and others going to follow suit OBAMA going to get the support he needs from this Congress, the people have spoken ande congress will listen.BTW the democratics made significant gains in nthe senate not the same old politics with republican rule again

  11. David look at the message ! in this election just look! the President was givingt a mandate and the congress have no choice but to follow most major legislation to help like jobs that the repiblican snub would be passed.

  12. The President enacts legislation? That is a joke.

Obama has to build his legacy in this term and the pressure is on HIM to reach out to the Republicans or he will become a footnote in American political history.

  13. @ac

How so the President was given a mandate when the popular vote was split 50:50?

  14. @David
How so the President was given a mandate when the popular vote was split 50:50?
    ************

Stop echoing Republican talking points, its the Arithmetic of the Electoral College, Bush was elected in 2000 with fewer votes that Gore.

  15. Romney and the Republicans got tricked at their own game. They went into the sea and still wanted a bath
With all the antics of suppression, fraud, negative advertising, misleading comments and lies by he and his party, it backfired on them – they outsmart themselves.
With the billions of dollars they spent, they wouldn’t have much of value to show for it all, unless they sell pictures and videos to certain media houses.

  16. David stop looking at the numbers and look at the the etnicity of the populace the numbers for the republican show a decline of ethic groups who support them congress cannot rely on only one group for the support as in this case there is wher the power tilts in favour of the president congress power has been Diffused since the populace vote isonly a refection of the white poulace and a small group of minorities so all in all thev results give more power to OBAMA than congress

  17. small contractors CANNOT afford to pay Lashley the $8,000+ per house that he is asking for that’s why the big contractors are getting the contracts….we will never change. even when that thief is kicked out of office, some other crook will take his place

  18. SORRY WRONG BLOG

  19. @Sargeant
so would you say that Bush was given a mandate in 2000???

    @ac
“the congress have no choice but to follow most major legislation ”

I think followers of American politics know differently. Intrinsically and extrinsically.

    @David
Obama will have to shift more center than left to get legislation passed. Though the combined minority vote (blacks, latinos, etc.) gave him their mandate, overall the “white” class still controls what happens when and how fast.

    Just Observing

  20. the powers that be can not let a black man only have one term.
it would cause a ruckus in USA .it would be called racism.and much talk and
conflict would transpire.so before the people even voted Obama was a sure winner as we have to be careful not to be racist to monkey faced ,Muslims..
this will be his last term if not assassinated..
the outcome was known for years of this election as racism can not be ignited
as we whites cower to the mighty ,minority, protected,oh so bad done by
    Negroids.big whoop to freaking do.idiots!

  21. The comment above is so much foolishness , it is a shame

  22. @AC
Is it really necessary for you to make a FOOL of YOURSELF by suggesting that Whites did not vote for BO?
I live in Toronto and I can assure you that if Canadian Whites voted in the US election, BO would have received north of 65% of the White vote!

Please stop trying hard to singlehandedly suggest that Whites are against BO because he is nor lily white. Many whites that did NOT vote for BO seriously thought he was not moving in the correct direction. Is it too difficult for some peeps to get over casting themselves as Victims of Racism?

  23. O.K. let me set the record straight 79% of whites voted for Obama Lie that and further more one cannot dismiss the attitude of congesss as being just that and the disrepect that Romney showed towards the President in the debates a

  24. @AC
Congress is moribund with plenty blame on both sides of the spectrum. Has BO played his role perfectly? NO!

The Republicans in Congress have to be racists from your perspective. Has it NOT occurred to you that BO has a Socialist Agenda which Republicans obviously cannot support because it goes against the essence of that Party and indeed the basic principles of what made the USA wealthy?

I have seen a video of a poor black woman who said that the Govt is giving
away cell phones and produced 5-6 from her handbag. She stated that she has 32 in total, all from Govt. Do you think that any country can survive financially if this is the mentality of Govt without basic controls of expenditure? Dont tell me that you are one of those really dumb types that believes that all Govt has to do is CREATE $$$$$ from thin air. I will give you a hint, if the US continues just giving money away without a plan to create a better educated, technically prepared workforce the result WILL BE massive INFLATION as in $25 for a cup of coffee that you can buy for $2 or less right now!

The reason that any rational white or anyone else might not have voted for BO is that the US political system is flawed because the Pres is elected seperately from Congress which places the Pres in the awkward position of the other Party in control. So this could be solved in the short term by voting for a Republican Pres or Democratic Congress. The existing problem will now continue given the results of the election. You see this has nothing to do with racism just logic.

  25. SORRY WRONG BLOG

  26. In my comment posted previously i said that 79% of whites voted for OBAMA that should be 79% of whites voted for ROMNEY in any case the focus on the race is relevant and no sense in pretending as if it is not part of the equation and should be dismmissed my main focus was to point out that the Republicans cannot survive with only one part of a sector support they need a crosss section like that of democratics .

  27. No disagre iobserving the ball is in+;ama ciourt unlike the first electionwhere he had to be lord and master to the majorty in control in this election the wheat have been separated from the chaffe and now obama can clearly see who is for him and against him and the congress has no option than to follow suit

  28. No disagree “observing” the ball is in obama court unlike the first election where he had to be lord and master to the majorty “in control” in this election the wheat have been separated from the chaffe and now obama can clearly see whose interest he must serve and the congress has no option than to follow suit

  29. @ac
“now obama can clearly see whose interest he must serve and the congress has no option than to follow suit”

If you genuinely believe this then I accept your naivete.

Next elections, 2014. Planning has already started. Agendas have already been set.

    Just observing

  30. @AC
Obviously we cant dismiss race as a factor, since we know that over 93% of black peeps voted for BO. Are you suggesting that black peeps did untold hours of detailed cogent analysis to arrive at their decision????? Hint, any idiot knows the truth it was based on race from a supposedly positive angle as in, ” I have to vote for my BRO”. So even if 79% of Whites (dont know where you arrived at that number seems very high) voted race based for MR then black racism is worse since 93% voted racially.

The bottomline is that you, AC, want to focus on race when there probably is much less racism involved from a White perspective than you are trying to claim. We can agree that we all need to move to a point where RACE IS TOTALLY IRRELEVANT!

  31. mr money brain you sound very bitter ! are you upset that minorities defeated the wheel oiled powerhouse machine of the REpublicans which cost them over 1billion dollars shame on you for bringing race to the table. .

  32. RFLMAO ……..LOLLLLL

  33. @AC
What is a real pity is that you continue to focus on the racial angle instead of considering that there are many reasons why white people might not vote for BO besides race. I have done a good job educating you but you obviously WENT TO SCHOOL on SATURDAY NIGHT in JULY—AUGUST!

  34. Going by the comments from those tea party and those wanting to take America back from what I don’t know will make/scare any sensible person vote for Obama! LOLL

  35. ireally don’t think i have an appetite for engaging you with your torrid desire for hate .go talk to bill oreilly and that ilke ! PEACE! OBAMA IS PRESIDENT AND THATS THAT> for four more years and minorities blacks and gave him that right .so mr money brain get off your high horse and ride out into the sunset for four years cause the face of the presidency is a black man and not a damn thing you can do about it. acceptance is good for the soul.do yourself a favour bitter soul and leave me out of the racist loop at which you so try to get me involved, better yet go find something to do with your time like watch foxnews or some them videos posted here them right up your alley, OBAMA RULES whites could as well get used to it . BTW when last you heard any black person asking any past presidents who were white for proof of BIRTH or birth certificate

  36. Romney lost because about 6 -8 million white voters did not vote for him (nor for Obama)! While there were about 2.5 million more Black, Hispanic and “other” voters in 2012 than in 2008, there were 6.6 million less white voters in 2012 than in 2008. Romney lost because he did not appeal to these white voters. Romney’s religion, his less than clear prescriptions for revitalizing the economy, the demonization of Romney by the Democrats and the Republicans unwillingness to acknowledge that there are millions of working poor white people (many of whom are unmarried mothers) who favour Government established social safety nets all contributed to his failure to get the support of these white voters.

Obama received about 8.6 million less votes in 2012 than in 2008 and Romney received about 2 million less votes in 2012 than McCain did in 2008.

  37. @AC
Your head harder than ROCKSTONE, HOPELESS! There is no way any intelligent person could arrive at your conclusion with regards to me or what I have written.

I dont have to care a RODENTS RECTUM as regardless of what BO or anyone does the US is headed for DEEP FINANCIAL PAIN and the US$ will crumble while I make profit OWNING GOLD! What is your plan for buying very expensive necessities???? Oh yes BO is going to send you $$$$$$$ right!! You are in deep shit and sinking fast my friend regardless of who
occupies the White House. I will adapt and out think the markets regardless!

  38. It is to be noted that, 40% of white voters voted for Obama. This is about 36 million voters (out of 60.9 million who voted for Obama which means that about 24.9 million non-whites voted for the President). The total number of Black, Hispanic and “other” voters was about 35.8 million.

  39. Observing
so would you say that Bush was given a mandate in 2000???
    *******************

What do you consider a mandate? Of course he was given a mandate, even if Katherine Harris (remember her?) aided and abetted by the Supreme Court helped. Everybody focuses on Florida but people forgot that Gore couldn’t win his home State (Tennessee) if he wins there Florida is moot.
If Gore wins chances are that Barack Obama would be a household word only within his own home. Gore’s loss propels Kerry’s nomination who then choses State Senator Obama to deliver the keynote speech at the 2004 Democrat Convention and the rest is serendipity. (State Senator is pretty low on the political totem pole)

Obama would have to “shift to the Centre”? Where do you think he has been all along? I think the Republicans will be much more accommodating in his second term since he will not be running again and remember Senator Mitch McConnell the Republican Leader of the Senate said “The Republican goal is to make Barack Obama a one term President”

Could you explain the following “Though the combined minority vote (blacks, latinos, etc.) gave him their mandate”? I thought it was one man one vote no matter the colour, Obama still had to get a lot of White votes to become President, he is the President of the USA not the President of Black America or Latino America.

BTW the majority of Asian Americans also voted for Obama

  40. According to the Republican talking heads Obama won because of Sandy ( I suppose that explanation is as good as any).

Citizen Romney did get something right, he didn’t release the 10 years of tax returns that the media was clamoring so he gets to keep the peons in the dark about his wealth.

  41. @Sarge
Why should Romney release his Tax Returns while BO has not released the details of his education??? For all we know BO applied for scholarships as a Foreign Student in order to get a good deal?? Maybe BO had certain legal issues while on the Campus??? He must have had a good reason for not releasing. What is good for the goose is good for the gander! Although we did not get “a gander” at their details.

  42. @Moneybrain

The difference is that it is customary for candidates for the Office of President to release their Tax Returns. Romney’s father released 20 years of returns, I can’t remember any one calling for details of educational records before except recently Donald Trump and the Birthers, say Donald has a Tower in TO you aren’t Donald are you……?

This is the reason that Donald is mad at Obama, every time he took a dig at Trump, Donald sank lower in his seat probably wishing he could disappear

  43. Without reading other posts only subject: I do not think that Romney deserves a chance and I thought within myself that Obama would have won resoundingly. 7 out of 9 sealed it for him and the other states were icing on the cake. Still awaiting the College …

My thoughts on US elections are that people of other ethnic groups have outnumbered the white bureaucracy having no limitations to number of children they can adequately raise and care for. The US model of family was two children minimum and the white supremacy toed the line. However with the migration throughout the ages the policies and admiration for whites was suppressed with great indignation.

Education was top priority even Condeleeza Rice accorded her success to a fight and struggle as a Republican to reach high office in the US wherein once upon a time you would never see a black person in congress.

Mitt Romney does not see black, Asian, Haitian as of value or worth and he clearly showed it throughout his campaign. We are but nothing in his eyes. AND, his supporters and advertising campaign did not even recognize the plight and struggle of a growing ethnic group of citizens that are building America – his campaign was poised for ‘tea party’ supporters. Yet, he was stunned that the growing population of non-whites did not support him.

Their philosophy ‘believe it, achieve it’ should be a message to all seeking election. Faith without works is dead. Romney’s work was only in believing without working by extending a hand to the student, middle and low income, immigrant.

In addition, the international leaders thought if Romney won there would be war until next elections. Romney spoke of Obama being soft when dealing with international leaders with dictatorial philosophies as Obama’s approach is ‘come let us reason together’ and US’s approach (republican) is shoot to kill – talk later.

God bless Obama and God bless America,

Hopefully Michelle Obama would pursue presidency after this term with Obama and wins.

God bless America with Michelle Obama as President of the USA first black woman President of America – “Yes we can.’

  44. the perception thrown out by the republicans that the minority voters who voted for Obama are looking for hand outs and lackeys looking to live off the govt is a”myth”AND AN INSULT TO THE MILLIONS OF HARDWORKING AMERICANS WHO WERE ABANDONED BY THE Big business who pack up their millions and left the USA for new found wealth in China leaving the millions unemployed with no alternative but to go to govt for help this myth has been around for years and became popular and well believed by many never worrying to look around at the millions of minorities who have worked and struggle for most of their lives for nothing even the social security which these hard workers need to live on at the end of their hard struggle and tireless years came under attack by the republicans for major cuts but giving the rich more seem to be no problem for them to the republicans the working stiff should remain just that and should not be allowed to achieve any real financial, status and rises above the ashes that the american dream said is possible but should remain stuck at the bottom of the tatum pole pulling the load while those at the top takes the advantage.where was the heart for the unemployed when big business abandon the workers and the country for their own selfinterest . Where was the heart! that is the question the republicans need to ask instead of demonizing millions of americans through no fault of their own needs jobs and until then depends on govt for help.

“All the Kings (president”s) horses and all the king’s men, could not put Humptey Dumptey together again”

Irrespective of all the pundits, racists, agnostics, haters, seditionists weighing in on the election of the President of the United States of one thing you can be sure President Obama will be in the White House for another four years.

You all know where i stand on his election to the white house again and while all the spin doctors fudge up the reasons various that he won or Romney lost and all of that, (including the “alter ego” of BU, Harry Halligan, who i believe is a certified lunatic, an individual who periodically when the antipsychotic drugs have worn off, and the patient care specialist at his home are not watching, turns on the computer to his book-marked sites and pens out the most inane statements to incite 95% of the Bajan populace to do something. I clearly see the face of neo-nazitism creeping into the landscape of Bajan culture when the veiled threat of assassination can be so blatantly inserted in one’s writings. But i leave David BU to take care of that and the US Secret Service to insert their bots to keep tabs on Harry Halligan and his ilk. Once you become really prolific with your assassination rant you can be assured that wherever you are “a positive” is raised on your IP address.

Mr. Halligan i encourage you and other assassination espousing bloggers to to continue along this road and watch how quietly the Head of the Political & Economic Affairs unit at the US Embassy (CIA) will sit and do nothing

Moving “Forward” Ever, Backward Never….i would wish to give a little “prophecy” here.

There are a few things that will show their head in the coming months and years.

Watch how the face of the Senate is going to change over the coming years for Class II Senators and, while a little further down the street, Class III in 2017.

Unlike the docile Bajan public upon whom (incompetent) representation is foisted, and enforced, through out-of-touch political parties, the US exercises the power of recall very vigilantly for mayors, council members, governors, state legislators, attorneys general.

When people get tired and are under threat of life, limb, shelter, food, liberty (and in the US that is held very dearly) they react in the ways that are available to them.

I put this to you that we are going to see a different animal roaming in the political hallways that comes from the hands of the electorate (aided by specific interest) that will shape the existing gridlock and will fashion what the people want.

Well done US of A unfortunately we in BIM saddled with the likes of Patrick Todd, A. Brathwaite, Tannis, Husbands, Gill (in measurement, unit of volume in the British Imperial Measurement System as in a gill of rum for the constantly drunk) do not have equal options available or, February 2013 withstanding, do we?

The things is that we are “damned if we do or damned if we don’t”, both sides fielding 75% incompetents.

It took this batch of incompetents 5 years to get started and to understand the working of government (and for some to line their pockets in the process)

Now, in the heyday of economic recession, we are going to replace one group of donkeys with another group of jackasses and expect them to get a grip (sorry almost said “implement a trick”) and implement a recovery plan from day one after election!!

We cant wait for BLP incompetents to take 2-3 years to get up to speed to run our country’s affairs.

Barrow come back!! At least you had a plan, albeit one for 1966, which served to advance us for 20 years!! We going wid Owen and Fumble the Sleeping Giant and their band of merry men, barring changing the ministries and one tekking responsibility for Town and Country Planning, doan seem to have none

  46. blacks and minorities again step up to to plate giving Obama a win in Fla defeating the influence of the jewish lobby and their millions and the jewish anti obama forces who wanted to have him defeated because of his “peace” through diplomacy policies .
