Lt. Col Trevor T Browne

My attention has been drawn to your excellent new era medium and in particular to your articles on the upcoming elections at the Barbados Olympic Association. As you correctly indicate, I am a candidate for the position of President, as is Mr. Steve Stoute who has held that post for the past 16 years.

I wanted to take the opportunity to explain that mine is not at all a negative campaign against the incumbent. Indeed I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Mr. Stoute – who has contributed a large part of his adult life to the service of sport.

My interest is in moving local sport to the point where it can realize its true potential as a National Developmental Tool, and where the unquestionable talents of our youth can be harnessed for their own personal benefit, and for the national good. All the basic requirements are in place for sport to be a major success story in Barbados.

  • The talent is outstanding and abundant
  • The climate is near perfect
  • The opportunities are unprecedented
  • The resources are there for the taking

What is lacking is the leadership vision and management skills that are necessary in order to convert these basic assets into a successful high-performance sport industry. A casual glance at any successful sporting jurisdiction will show that the application of high level management skills is the most critical factor for success.

No national organization can seriously expect to be competitive at the international level without a well thought out Strategic Plan; without a Long Term Development program for coaches, athletes and officials; and without a structured program for infrastructural development. Unless the kind of leadership is put into place that can understand, apply and implement such programs, all the best intentions in the world will come to naught.

It has become very clear to me that while the incumbent is well-intentioned and committed, his skills which would have suited the organization back in the 1980s and 1990s, are no longer able to cope with the complexities of modern organizational management. There is an urgent organizational need for change at the leadership level.

I have been fortunate to benefit from the highest possible level of modern Sport Management training through the BOA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This training has prepared me with the kind of management skills needed by modern sport organizations. My candidature in this election therefore gives our membership the option to make choices about the kind of future that they wish to have for the organization.

My own position is that the leadership of a national organization such as the BOA is not a marathon event, but is more of a relay, where fresh legs are employed at stages in the race in order to accelerate the organization forward to greater success.

  1. This guy looks a lot like Vere Brown (BIDC fame …)

Otherwise I am mindful of his comments on leadership and what is required but still he maintains the utmost respect and admiration for the current leader … Hmmm, somet’ing w’ong.

    这听起来像是政治,我…哈哈哈

  2. @BAFBFP

It is not a war you have to expect Browne to extend certain courtesies to the incumbent.

  3. Trevor Browne is a Military man,and not a politician, he has learned never to pull the opposition,(or in war the enemy)down.

  4. What Military Man what ?
Where has he ever fought or strategized ?
    Military Man My Ass !

That Said, however, I support Mr. Browne
I know him and I know he is a good candidate for the job and would do a very good job.

    He has my support 200%

  5. Any reason why Leroy Parris ‘s photo adorns the Banner ?

  6. @Jan Jan

The themes of BU banners usually represent/reflect issues of the day.

  7. Good to see so many candidates vying for positions on the BOA Board. Perhaps there is hope.

  8. @ David
    Long overdue.
Perhaps we will see a similar thing happening in the political sphere too… closed shop arrangements are the root of poor quality and questionable ethics.

  9. Seriously Trevor, you continue to show nothing but contempt for Mr. Stoute with your current behviour. What skills do you propose to bring to the board to effect these “changes” you speak of? This is not a cadet boot camp! Can you do a better job as leader of this board than you did of the small contingent in CYG Pune 2008?

  10. The old guard has been reelected. Same old bull shit.

  11. The federations have spoken!!! New blood had been injected in the person of Sandra Osbourne replacing Craig Archer. Hopefully this time round Lt. Col. Browne will work with instead of against the new Board.

This musical chairs charade is like recycling shite. Shite from shite leaves only shit.
Just a bunch load of incompetent shitty morons who think a seat on the Boards of these organizations funded by taxpayers and the Lottery gambling suckers is the ultimate success for social recognition.
You guys already earn sufficient salary and perks in your unproductive jobs. Why exploit these vulnerable organisations with your first class travel, expensive accommodation, attending every conference and seminar overseas from St. Lucia to Timbuktu, cocktails and partying? Why not spend the money on the athletes, sports persons, coaches and facilities? To whom much is given much is expected (noblesse oblige).
Barbados is in the state it is because of people like those parasites in the BOA. Nothing to show for the subventions and grants from the lottery. Even little Grenada has outdone us without the millions spent over the years on you lazy, obese, parasitic and ‘surplus-to-requirements’ lot of supernumeraries. Go earn some foreign exchange for once instead of only spending it.

  13. Well said David,
    …same old bovine excretement.
Is it not revealing that over 50 sport bodies voted for this result?
See why we get the sport results that we do? Sheeple indeed.

  14. @ millertheanunnaki
Spoken like someone who has not the slightest clue what happens with regards to sport in Barbados.
Clearly failure to achieve rests solely with our sport administrators who work tirelessly to ensure that no stone is left unturned in finding funding for numerous local, regional and international opportunities for our athletes. Of course lack of commitment on the athletes’ part (in some cases) is not a contributing factor.
Instead of spewing regurgitated propaganda you should get accurate information.
And imagine this “bunch load of incompetent shitty morons” has worked over the years to establish an operating system which the IOC highlights worldwide as the model which all small NOC’s such as ours should emulate. Hmmmm, I wonder why that is?
I hope you will bombard this government in a similar fashion to get the LONG talked about ‘National Strategic Plan on Sport”.

  15. Isn’t Sandra Osbourne from the same Mutual/Sagicor club? Same old guard. Like every thing in Barbados it is the same old guard. Nothing will change.

  16. Bajan athletes captured a whopping 81 medals – 56 gold, 17 silver and eight bronze.

And most are the same age as Stoute.lol

  17. But sport has to be seen in totality. Has Barbados made any significant strides in sports compared to T&T, Jamaica, Bahamas etc. The answer is no.

here’s a few ;archery, athletics, basketball, badminton, boxing, cycling, fencing, football, hockey, judo, karate, gymnastics, netball, orienteering, squash, swimming, surfing, equestrian, taekwondo, tennis, table-tennis, rugby, wrestling, sailing, bridge, chess, golf, handball, shooting, triathlon, volleyball and weightlifting .
Most of the over 50 sports are minor with a sprinkling of members run by whites, uncle toms and hand to mout blacks hoping for little picks and perks.
No doubt the whites vote for Stoute, the uncle tom black administrators are easily manipulated.
Check out badmington, fencing, gymnastics, sailing, handball, equestrian to mention a few. Stoute like he want to die at the BOA he’s accomplished nothing whatsoever he and his cronies legacy is a bunch of useless parasites who brought shame and disgrace to sports in Barbados.
His reelection is a sick joke at best.

millertheanunnaki you said it all. Bravo!

  20. Earlier when BU raised this matter some said race is not a factor. Well is it?

At least kudos should be extended to sports journalist Andi Thornhill for his article today. Appealing to the masses would not have mattered, sad.

The way you have responded only reinforces the exceedingly negative view the general public has of that organisation. Just check out the subsequent contributions and see if they are in support of your position.

What kind of operating system model is that? One for the receiving and distributing of perks to the socially incestuous hangers-on?
Where are the results or successful output to show for the effectiveness model? Racking up millions of air miles and burning millions in foreign exchange?

Your arrogant attempt to justify mediocrity resulting from social interbreeding and the selection of misfits to manage the business of athletes and the other real shareholders is a true revelation of what this country is up against to save it from further deterioration.

It seems that the model you so proudly promote as a shining beacon of success has found fertile ground in other regional NOC’s in Jamaica, Bahamas, T&T and Grenada.
Now that is true CSME at work but where there is no dividend or royalties to show for original investment and patent. By the fruits we shall know the tree. And your is one tree that is not bearing any.

The BOC is the representative arm of Olympic sports in Barbados and therefore the largest lobby group to advance those interests in shaping and influencing government’s policy and its National Strategic Plan on Sport. Instead of gorging your obese selves with all the food and drinks at the frequent cocktails and social gatherings paid for by subventions and lottery money why not haul the Minister(s) in attendance and the other bureaucratic minions over the coals and publicly exposed them for inertia and incompetence. But it takes two to tango and both of you (BOA & Ministry responsible for Sport) are locked in a lifelong dance until one party is forcibly removed.

  22. @ Sportsman
    You are right
BAFBFP explained long ago that the BOA is a private club owned by Stoute & Co Ltd. “Sport” is just an excuse used to get the lottery money deposited every week.
….must admit it is a good scheme if you can get it….and keep it.

    LOL
That makes it an advanced Ponzi scheme where the fellows at the top give handouts to the middlemen who keep them in place, while the whole thing is paid for by the lottery……as onions would say “frig the sportsmen”

  23. David race is a factor the three highest BOA posts held by whites is not coincidence. The mob a ton of minor sports Barbadians dont even know exist vote and are run by whites and uncle toms example clay pigeon shooting. Esther Maynard lining up to replace Stoute when he dead. What sport Sandra Osbourne plays? The BOA is an arrogant body justifying mediocrity resulting from social interbreeding and the selection of misfits to manage the business of athletes. Reprehensible freeloaders they are.

  24. This is one issue BU will continue to champion. Are we not sick and tired to hear the predictable cry every four years when the Olympics comes around?

  25. Great web site you have here.. It’s hard to find good quality writing like yours nowadays. I truly appreciate people like you! Take care!!
