Emancipation Statue (Bussa)

Writing on behalf of the group BLACK ENPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION we are inviting the media to attend “Bussa Outrage clean up –project”.  As a group that has at its core socio-political and spiritual empowerment of African people it is one of the first community projects we will be embarking.

As a symbol of us breaking the chains of slavery at Emancipation it is shameful how little it has been taken care of. A mere 5 weeks ago it was Emancipation day in Barbados and the area is overgrown with weeds, overrun with snails and debris. The words on the sign are completely illegible in some places and  missing  all together in other places.  What is also an issue is the access to the statue, which is an obstacle course of dodging vehicles just to end up in knee high grass and illegible signage.

It was an embarrassment to us and should be for all of Barbados that our guest, Toyin Agbetu, who is not only a tourist (on his honeymoon), but a British African social rights activist and founder of the Pan-African group Ligali had to see our Emancipation statue is such condition Barbados ought to be ashamed after  recently becoming a world heritage site that this is how we present one of our “National heroes”.

Therefore on Sunday, September 2nd, 2012, at 7am, we the BLACK EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION will be cleaning the roundabout that houses the BUSSA statue.

  1. This is another example of how things are managed and maintained on this island. We have our PRIDE in the wrong places. Don’t you all notice whenever a government minister open their mouth it starts with how great Barbados is? How better Barbados is than other countries? Yet they can’t even clean up their backyard? It is a sign that many people have become comfortable in their own filth. Pride and Industry indeed!

  2. The Black Race is a cursed race
    Nobody likes black
    Whites dont like blacks
    Blacks dont like Blacks
A cursed Race of Blacks living in a white man’s world and cursed by white people. Look how OBAMA getting treat in Amuricah ??

  3. @Just Asking

Barbados is a Black dominant country so what is your poiny?

  4. @ David
I have never met you…if I may ask ..are you Black or are you white?
…..the thought just came..by the way I am black.

  5. @Onions

Whether Black or White should it matter?

  6. Touche’….ah boy..lol…why going by Just Ask ask…YES at present to me… it is , that’s why I ask…..I can better access both your and his ASK…

  7. assess…sorry

  8. BLACK EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION .who are these people?
because there is nothing but black empowerment in barbados.!
the statue is always dirty with bird shit.
it think it should be relocated to a better place.like where the tourist get off the cruse ships so they can see it and take pictures.not placed in the middle of a nasty roundabout in one of the most congested traffic roundabouts in barbados.shame !

  9. hey may be we could pay the vendors that surround the statue selling and dropping on the ground what ever they steal [depends on season]and slowing down traffic to keep it clean with some tools.
but they might steel those also.just kidding..lol

“The Black Race is a cursed race”

You might just have a point there. If you accept that most black people in Barbados believe the Bible to be the only book of Truth and the words of the white man’s god.
In the book of black people’s instructions aka myths the white man god allowed a drunkard Noah to curse Ham for covering up his willy from public ridicule. The white man god allowed Ham to become the servant and slave to his other brothers. Ham is the alleged mythical progenitor of the black race; the Zoe-like descendants of Cain the murderer.
So there is the answer to your concern.
Blacks will always be slaves both physically and mentally to the other races until they renounce the white god and come to the Light.

And this is verified by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, aka the Mormons, who are now entrenched in Barbados. The Book of the Mormons states :-
    2 Nephi Chapter 5 Verse 21 -25.
And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity . For behold they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like a flint ; Wherefore, as they were white ,and exceeding fair and delightsome , that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.
And thus saith the Lord God ; I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.
And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it and it was done.
And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beast of prey.

  12. The indigenous beliefs of West Africa are so full of wisdom but everybody is scared of them because of witchcraft and voodoo etc. People who are interested in accessing West African spirituality should take the trouble to go to the library or go on the internet to find out how amazing and beautiful it is, with its respect of Nature itself and deep understanding of the natural world. For example ancestor worship so called, where there is little difference between past, present and future, all flows along in one seamless pattern and how you behave in life, with dignity and fairness, becomes not only a legacy to your descendants but lets them live again in your footsteps, so that all the good things you do in your own life are revived again in theirs, and their children’s lives.
We hear scare stories about witchcraft etc. but if you examine it, it usually happens when Christianity and Voudoun get mixed up together.
There is such a huge difference between a belief system which says you have to be “saved”, that there are only two alternatives, heaven or hell and one which greets every little baby as if it is the bringer of wisdom from for example, a grandparent who has died.
Yes, like any other belief system there are mad bits, such as if you get eaten by a wild animal, fall out of a tree and die and more like that, you can’t be an ancestor – in other words, you might cause somebody to inherit bad luck because of an antipathy to animals or plants but there is always a priest who can talk you through this and show ways of managing the situation. It’s an amazing form of psychiatry on a grass roots level.
I’ve walked away from the guilt-stricken world and thought carefully about this and I suggest anybody who is not happy with inheriting a “white” set of beliefs has a look at West African stuff.
Christianity is basically not “white” anyway. To get “white” you would have to believe in Odin, Thor, Freya and the other gods of Scandinavia! They are cool too. Christianity is in essence a Middle Eastern set of beliefs. It was in what is now Iran that that the first idea of a good and a bad god developed, Zoroaster and Ahura Mazda, good and evil fighting each other.

It’s about more than that. Who wants a belief system where there are only two guys fighting each other anyway? In our case, God and Satan. Where are the goddesses?

  13. @Victor. Right here. Island Gal and I are goddesses….*big smile on face*

    ………………………………………………………………………….
You may want to support those who promise 72 Virgins in Heaven.
But did you hear the one about the two Rastas. They promise each other that the first to die should come back and tell the other what its like in Heaven.
One died and came back. He told the other that on mornings he gets up eats some itals, and then have a romp with all the females that he can managed. After a rest , he goes back in the afternoon, eats some more itals, and romps with even more females.
“Wait!”, exclaimed the other Rasta, :”Is that what’s it like in heaven?”
“Heaven ,my eye,” answered the “dead’ Rasta, ” I came back as a buck rabbit on Walkers Savannah!”
