The Late Lindsay Holder, Economist

The BU household is saddened at the news of the passing of Economist Lindsay Holder. He will be most remembered for his strident but well-researched expositions on immigration matters. His willingness to use BU has a vehicle to transport his message to the public domain placed him ahead of fellow academics bar a few.

Lindsay, may your soul rest in peace.

  6. My sincere condolences to Lindsay’s family and and his friends. I first met Lindsay at Kensington when he was pontificating on the beauty and artistry of Lawrence Rowe and I was impressed about his scholarship on the batsmanship of Yagga Rowe who was one of my favourites. I then met him many times again when we spoke on a number ot matters mainly on the social and economic side. I have always found him different and willing to state his point even if it has to be canvassed against those giving a different view point. His work on the price mechanism with respect to gas prices should be required reading for the present government, He was luciid and thorough in his analysis and brought an earthiness and a deep connection to his own upbringing in his explanations. He was a man who let his word be his bond and in what ever he did he allowed to let the chips fall where they may. You have lived a productive lifeLindsay and i will mourn at your passing. My you rise in glory and may light perpetual shine upon you RIP Think on tthese things

  7. Missed him off the scene for awhile didnt know he was ill. A good man. RIP Lindsay.

  8. RIP. Condolences to all concerned

Can’t wait for you David, you are taking too long so I am going to make the comment here and when you finally get around to the article I will cut and paste.

Tony Marshall DID very publicly say that the NIS would NOT be investing in 4Seasons. The fund was eventually committed to the same project. Mr. Marshall went dark for a number of weeks and now we are told that his contract would NOT be renewed. Personally I feel that Mr. Marshall should have done like the selectors of the Barbados team and tendered his resignation, but he chose to go dark thereby giving the political party that appointed him in the first place a chance to get to the public first with the comment that his contract as NIS chair was NOT renewed and that Cabinet had nothing to do with the change in the NIS board stance. I do not know whether to restore any respect for Tony or not. Did he fall on his sword in order to protect his party’s image? Now that would be plain old dumb …!

  9. @ David

Tony Marshall deserves some special mention on your blog … Did he chose to fall on his sword…? Is he really that committed to the Party or just plain old dumb …?! Bring an article man …

  13. It is always sad to see someone who is at the height of his career cut down prematurely by the Grim reaper. I met him a few times in the work environment and he struck me as one of the bright economists who was contributing significantly to economic thought in Barbados. He will be missed.

    Rest in peace.

To all those who sent condolences to the family of the late Lindsay Holder, we wish to thank you. We appreciate those kind words spoken of him as a person and as a professional. He took his work seriously and did what ever he could through economics and finance to make Barbados a better place.
    Thank you

You are most welcome. He was a very active contributor on BU during the great debate on the Immigration matter. His dispassionate and researched expositions are now a matter of record.
