.The Barbados Coat of Arms bears the words ”Pride and Industry” but what exactly can we say about Bajans. They are proud of their country but don’t really show it like others do.

In most developed countries, one can see their citizens bearing their flag with pride on their cars, houses, shirts and other possessions – but not in Barbados. Let us change this by feeling better about ourselves and our Country.  This beautiful  flag is comprised of a deep blue, golden yellow and striking black. Together they blend to make a fantastic hue which as a Bajan emanates into an inward glow which can only be the pride to which the Coat of Arms refers.  This is especially so when one is away from Barbados!

Politics aside for a moment. Let us put BARBADOS first! Let us be Barbadians and then political pundits second or third.

Why not let us do the following:

  • Let every house, dwelling, apartment, office, abode etc. fly the Barbados flag proudly. Up at sunrise and down at sunset
  • Every car should bear a bumper sticker with the flag and a text “Proud to be Bajan”
  • Print tee shirts with a LARGE flag and the word Barbados using the current BTA Logo
  • Every website with the domain .bb and official websites should carry the Barbados flag on the index page. There is none today even on http://www.visitbarbados.org/ or http://www.gisbarbados.gov.bb/  A part of the flag is found on http://www.foreign.gov.bb/
  • Every product produced in Barbados should have the flag and words “Produced in Barbados”
  • Arrivals at Grantley Adams Airport and the port should be greeted by a large Barbados flag (in good repair)
  • The Police and fire service uniforms should carry a small flag
  • The flag is and should be the property of ALL Bajans.  Both externally and in their hearts
  • It should be illegal to burn the flag. It should not be denigrated  or desecrated

Barbados has never had a catastrophe therefore the feeling of rallying around the flag has never been in question but do we really need this to put Barbados first? I think not.

Let the blue, yellow and black fly freely over these 166 sq. miles.

Maybe I not understand this thing, but maybe you include the roundabout like Henry Forde and Ermie Bourne and building like Earskin Sandiford and Tom Adams and Grantley Adams and road like Arthur Seat and the statue like Bentom and Admeral Nelson …no?

  2. A proud people???

I was both astounded and disgusted to see the report on the back page of today’s Nation, that the Cavaliers intend to take the Amateur Basketball Association to Court over the lifetime ban of the player who droppedkicked an opponent in a recent game.

Their attorney is alleged to have said ‘I see nothing in the rules…’

    Rules? Rules?

THIS is why we have a problem, because the club, instead of expelling the player for awful unsportsmanlike and violent behaviour, rushes to his defense.

And then we wonder why the Windies team has discipline problems at time.

    Same reason.

I wonder if that club /player realise that he could be charged for assault and battery, as the drop kick was clearly not part of the game and intended to cause harm?

    Have they thought/ realised that?

Disgraceful behaviour now being encouraged by the club instead of being chastised.

And wunna talk of ‘proud bajan’?

    Joke.

Lawyers and everyone else watching too much corrupt American injustice! Sad to say but values, even in Bim, eroding at light speed.

Never a truer statement have you written, it is not uncommon to see Bajans wearing Jamaican colours.
    ——
So true you see them in trindadian headties the thing is jamicans are adamant all bajan men are battyboys ie homos yet our lazy ignorant youth worship jamaicans thru the haze of ganja smoke in shacks and trees on the so called blocks day and night.
patriotism is sadly lacking in Bdos moreso among the lost generation youth on the blocks puffing on their weed

  5. The Bajan people should not sell themselves short for anyone trying to talk them down, however subtly! The degradation of culture and business is suffering everywhere its not just where you are. Look at America, Britian and other parts of the world right now, there is a terminal malaise about the untruths and lies being perpetrated by jewish media around the world. They have been the hidden hand behind the propoganda that has caused arguements and wars all over the planet.
Flag waving plays a part, but any bajan is proud enough to stand up and be counted. Someone wrote a list of what each island is known for, our leaders flew planes in the war, our artists, Marvin Gay, Diana Ross, Rihana and Beyounce and many others who are a part of bands and groups but lesser known but we are there, we also had a swimmer in the last olympics who got a silver medal. As a bajan i don’t want other cultures to dominate ours in our own land especially if its not good or benefical. Our children should be doing things that benefit them and not hanging around doing nothing and smoking ditch weed that will turn them do lally and stupid.
Everybodies economy is down and getting worse, don’t watch anybodyelse
when its just a lie anyway. I keep telling people to check the facts and look into things properly. We do need to get rid of that slavery colonial look about the island and the atitudes that go with them.
Britian servives by having events such as the grand national, carnival, Glastonbury, sporting events and now the olympics. These are revenue raisers so get on it.
