Dear BU,

Thank you for publishing my blog on the Library Service on April 5. If you would permit me, I would like to submit my second blog.

It is with deep regret that I have to post my second blog and I pray to God that I do not have to publish my third.  I had hoped that after my first blog, the authorities would have taken the opportunity to investigate the situation and take appropriate corrective measures. Sadly, that has not happened.

  1. The officer mentioned in the first blog paid an individual $10,000 to build a cupboard, that by all reasonable estimates should have cost no more than $2000.00
  2. 5 gallon containers of paint mysteriously disappeared after this officer removed them from a branch library without the knowledge or consent of the Executive Officer
  3. This officer paid to a furniture repair man over $3000,00 to repair chairs. In less than 3 months, some of the same chairs broke apart, and would you believe they were sent back to the same repair man, for another $3000,00. This happens about 3 times a year
  4. All these people awarded these contracts,  the furniture repair man, the cupboard builder, the cleaning service  all live within 800 yards of this officer
  5. Would you believe that the Director took the official library vehicle away from the Driver Messenger and gave to this officer to drive.  The officer could be seen doing grocery shopping and collecting her grand children. The Official Driver was then given an old vehicle used to carry around the tools of the general worker, i.e Weedwhacker, lawn mower as well as old grass and bush cut from various  branches. To add insult to injury the Official Driver was then asked to clean both vehicles.
  6. The vehicle was taken from the Official Driver so that this officer could drive the Director around at the time of the late  Prime Minister’s passing among other things.  The library was given the responsibility of coordinating the condolence books, instead of using one of her senior officers and the Official Driver, the Director chose this same junior officer to assist her and to drive the Library’s Official vehicle. Would you believe this person is an accounting officer.
This is where it gets really weird, the Driver Messenger went on sick leave, during this time.  A driver was sent to replace him, when the driver saw the vehicle, he indicated to the Executive Officer that he could not drive it. He said that he had not seen a vehicle with the gears in the handle for a long time, he was a young man. Would you believe that instead of giving the driver the official library vehicle and allowing him to do his job, the Director instructed the Executive Officer to ask Service Commission to send a driver that could drive the old van. The real funny thing is that Service Commission granted the request.

When it comes to the library CPO, the head of the Civil Service and the Ministry are all fast asleep. Well allow me to wake them up, all along we were dealing with thousands of dollars, now lets get serious. In my next blog I will reveal  details of how hundreds of thousands of dollars were  mis-appropriated. This scandal crosses borders , we don’t only get oil from Trinidad.

  2. Knowing what happens at Transport board, I can believe it – after all our accountant has nooooooooo qualifications at all and getting over 7 thousand monthly plus perks. No wonder we were in the red by 48 million last year.

  3. I want to read your next blog, post it soon.

    6. “the Director instructed the Executive Officer to ask Service Commission to send a driver that could drive the old van. The real funny thing is that Service Commission granted the request. ”

This was not an unreasonable request. After all if we need brain surgery, we expect the guy who shows up to be able to do brain surgery; and we expect our pilots to be able to actually fly the plane provided by the airline.

6 “the Driver Messenger went on sick leave, during this time.”

Are you sure that the driver messenger did not go on sick leave because he was vex because he could not control t’ings? The director would be a fool to permit the driver messenger to run the library service.

    5. “To add insult to injury the Official Driver was then asked to clean both vehicles. ”

It is not unreasonable to expect dirver messengers to keep a an organizations vehicles clean and tidy. If this is not written into the job description of every driver messenger then it should be.

Do we expect the GG, the PM, judges, Cabinet Ministers Library Directors etc. to waste tax payers time (time is money) cleaning their own official vehicles?

    Stupseee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What next.

Should we expect MP’s to vaccum and dust the Parliament building too?

You are speaking like a real BLP person. Corruption is second nature to you people.

I bet that this person is related to you.

    Carson, Carson, Carson:

Believe it or not I don’t even know who the person is; and so far as I know I have no relatives working with the National Library Service or receiving contracts from that organization. And no Carson I am NOT a member of the BLP, nor of the DLP either. I’ve NEVER been a member of any political party. NEVER. Why are you always trying to marry me to the BLP. What if I don’t want to be married to the BLP or to any political party?

This officer must be adhering to the prophetic words of the dead “great” king………………….only those who stay the course with me will be able to share in the fatted calf. So the person is only doing what was told of them….share the fatted calf.

  12. I have been posting as Charlie for a while.
This is a disclaimer. I am not the writer of the article about the corruption in the library service therefore the writer should post under another name or as Charlie the second.

I won’t let you down. I’d never let down a truebajanman.

If Charlie is right and these things are happening of course they are wrong. And no I don’t like wrong things, and yes I understand that such wrong doing is funded by my tax money, and no I don’t like paying extra taxes so that corrupt people can enrich their family and friends. And yes I would like to keep a bit more of my earnings in my hands instead of putting it into the government’s hands; or the hands of some government official’s friend or family. And yes I would like to see contracts awarded via a competitive process and yes I would like to see contracts go to the lowest competent bidder.

And yes I understand that some of Barbados business class are rapacious.

And yes I have run into some of them myself (damn scary people)

And yes I understand that some of the business class have no shame.

But my earlier comments of today still stand.

Because I understand that some employees have no shame either.

I have been in the work force for decades and yes I know that some employees (way, way too many) abuse the sick leave with benefits system.

And yes I don’t regard it as an insult if a driver/messenger is expected to keep the vehicle which he drives for his job clean and neat. The maid has to keep the office (or home) clean and neat; the cook has to cook; the librarian has to order books, catalog them, charge them out, help patrons with reference questions etc. all legitimate parts of people’s jobs.

  14. I was off island for a couple weeks and I decided to check the postings to see what is new; to my amazement my former workplace is highlighted; when I read what is posted; my brain went into gear. This is pertinent and confidental information that only the persons involved in the procedures and the heirarchy should be privy to; so who is divulging info that they shouldn’t be. Doesn’t the secrecy act exist anymore. After reading the postings I did some investigating and came up with some very interested info; which is the same unprofessional; disruptive behaviour I left at the Library still exists; I remember when I was working there a senior officer had her whole platoon not speaking to one of the officers and if any one was seen in conversation with that particular officer they too would be alienated. Then I said to myself the ugly monster has risen its ugly head once again.I thought that by now that individual would be more professional in her behaviour; but as the old adage goes: a leopard cannot change its spots; and the higher the monkey climbs the more it shows its tail. It’s time to step up to the plate and stop all the wrangling . This has been going on for decades.

Quoting Charlie “the Director took the official library vehicle away from the Driver Messenger and gave to this officer to drive”

A little birdie tells me that the vehicle referred to is not an “official library vehicle” but a vehicle provided for the director’s use in her capacity as head of department. And that the driver messenger was permitted to drive it but was not always available when required (what on sick leave again!!!!!).

Quoting Charlie “The library was given the responsibility of coordinating the condolence books, instead of using one of her senior officers and the Official Driver, the Director chose this same junior officer to assist her and to drive the Library’s Official vehicle. ”

Perhaps cordinating condolence books in not the job for a director and a senior officer, perhaps is is rightfully a job for a junior officer.

I get the feeling that this blogging Charlie is the driver and that Charlie the driver is in a snit because he did not get to get to drive the big ride and has to do his real, real job driving around the old banger and tools to various branches and that when Charlie was denied the use of the big air conditioned ride he got in a snit and went on sick leave (again Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u are a mature person, surely u should know it is not the Driver/messenger who cleans the vehicles, it is the job of the General worker. well if the Library does not have a general worker, i guess then …
