At around 10pm last night someone set fire (again) to our top meadow and the resulting effect was that it burnt through about 30 feet of our 2 inch high pressure mains water pipe. The Hotel is currently full and we are without any water. We are desperately trying to locate 3 lengths of 2 inch high pressure plastic pipe, 1 bend, 1 ¼ to 2 inch reducer and 2 sockets.

Being Good Friday, everywhere we have tried is closed.

If anyone is reading this blog and can help us, please call us at Hotel Peach and Quiet T 428 5682!

Our thanks to the Inch Marlow villagers, two volunteer firemen and the Fire Service for helping put out the fire last night…..

  1. Our deep regret Adrian. You should call the Barbados Water Authority, surely someone should be able to assist!

  2. Adrian, sorry to hear about your calimity, but I will not pin blame on political motivation which I sensed in your article. This is the fire period where we are seeing an increase in grass fires. I will not use the word meadow in Bajan jargon since a meadow is (a field where grass or alfalfa are grown to be made into hay).

You could simply say that a grass fire occurred and damage your piping.

I hope that you succeed in your efforts. I have 3 two-inch 90 degree bends and 2 two-inch Tees but no 2 ins lengths.

  3. David, after seeing Adrian’s predicament, I called a business friend of mine who was willing to supply the pipes and bends, but when I just check with Adrian, his wife said that he was out of office, able to obtained the items and water is running again.

  4. Not sure I can agree with the headline as there have been quite a few bush fires all around Barbados (this occurs every year during the dry season)…. But I empathize with the situation…I am assuming that you have water tanks etc…given that your hotel is situated in Inch Marlow….very dry area!

  5. I too sympathise with you Adrian, I just hope that it was a grass fire that cause it and not a planned act of sabotage. Seeing the holiday period though I wonder.

  6. From someone who has had a home arsoned twice, the last one burnt to the ground, have an arson specialist look at it.

Like I said on the last fire, it’s the dry season. Grass and cane fires are a dime a dozen. A carelessly tossed cigarette butt doesn’t a political arsonist make.

There are some areas that burn every year, and in southern Christ Church it is particularly dry. Glad to hear he’s got the water back on though.

    Marginal

  8. Most wildfires are caused by people. I have never seen a discarded cigarette start any kind of fire, although I am told that it happens.

In the light of the threats that Mr. Loveridge has received, it is understandable that this would be suspected as arson.

  9. This is the post that was refused by BFP.

Come on people, how on earth can someone jump to conclusion and states it is a BLP supporter. What about the many houses that are being threatened daily in the heights, the lows and the barely haves. Are these fires caused by BLP supporters?

This is the time when people are listening out to the crackling of canes burning or the hissing of grass fires around homes. This is a yearly ritual, just like the Californian bush fires.

By the way, Adrian’s letter did not state that it is a BLP supporter. He was just sensitising the public that he was unable to source replacements since all the hardware stores would have been closed. That’s why he give his telephone number for help.

Let’s try not to create anarchy between the two political parties. Clean debates and solutions will keep our country No: 1 in the Developing countries.

    Peace. TMW 2008

    …………………………………………………………………….
This is the best piece of journalistic spin I have come across. Ha Ha mi amigo. Since you state that you never saw a cigarette start a fire, your logic is I can’t believe it can happen. So what you do….instill blame on an arsonist since threats were issued prior to the fire.

  11. Tell Me Why, the post was not “refused” by BFP. It is up. Amazing how you can put your agenda to everything.

  12. Gary, could you enlighten us on the two arson attempts that you experienced?

  13. Amazing how you can put your agenda to everything.
    ……………………………………………………………………..
This have nothing to do with agendas, I am versatile to deal with many topics since I am not ‘passin’ thru’ and unable to get facts.

Thrust me. I know what I am talking about.

  14. Tell me Why we saw your post on BFP so it looks like you are a little uncharitable. Should you extend an apology?

BU’s position is Adrian Loveridge has been the subject of many many threats and there has been no visible effort on the part of the authorities to address complaints made. Adrian is within his right to feel that a grass fire next to his hotel is a suspicious act.

Thank you ALL for your concern and assistance.
    Almost back to normal.

At 10pm, its reasonable to conclude the fire was started deliberately,

As for the repeated threats against me and my wife.
I never heard another thing from the RBPF.

  16. I sympathize with you at this time. May I suggest a 100ft hose & spray head from our friends in Wildey. They have everything. Just keep it handy in the garage.

  17. Is Adrian Loveridge the only person that has everr been threatened in Barbados. Is he the only person who has been threatened and been the victim of a fire. Is the BLP to blame for every negative thing that happens to Adrian Loveridge?Does he have any OTHER enemies? Is there even a possibility that the fire was started by someone inadvertently? Inch marlow is very dry and there are many people that go up there for lovers trysts. I think it is ridiculous to continue this particular spin with regards to AL.

Fires have been blazing all over barbados to people of all political affiliations. Perhaps AL needs to hire more security, get some water tanks , build a higher fence, or better yet get his NEW PARLIMENTARY representative to help him…

    This is getting quite ridiculous!

  19. Tell me Why we saw your post on BFP so it looks like you are a little uncharitable. Should you extend an apology?
    …………………………………………………………………….
David, I have been posting on both sites for months almost daily on nearly every blog. But, I must say, it seems that I become moderated base on the subject I am posting on, this showed its ugly face prior to the election when ten to fifteen of my posts were placed on moderation and delete. I was never offered an apology. After the elections, some of my posts were moderated and deleted.

I don’t have problems with apologising , but I feel that my line of arguments always create friction with some people. But again, Is that not what blogging is about?

  21. We find it incredible that Adrian L has had no response from the authorities.

    Personal attention of Donald Austin

President – Cable and Wireless (Barbados) Ltd

    re: Continued death threats

Once again, death threats against me are appearing on Barbados Free Press and today the blog has clearly identified the IP sender details. As you aware, I have made an official report to the Royal Barbados Police Force and I understand Superintendent Jedder is handling the case. I am somewhat surprised that after the senders details have been supplied previously, and the fact that Cable and Wireless are able to trace the sender, that no action has been taken.

    Could you please explain why?

    Best Regards

    Adrian Loveridge

  22. Quote from “me” above:
“Is Adrian Loveridge the only person that has everr been threatened in Barbados.”

The answer is no, Mr. Loveridge is not the only one. Others have been threatened. There are similarities with the other cases.

  23. We had two houses arsoned over the years…in one two fires were lit in two seperate beds and the stop cock knocked of off the outside pipe where a hose would be attached…my mother could have been killed because she entered the house and saw the two beds ablaze and the house then exploded into flames shortly after….that was my mother’s house that she built, the first time was the arsoning of a house she rented from Billie Miller in Fitts village…a fire was lit outside the bedroom and both bedrooms of the house burnt out, both cases were arsons reported by the BPF…

Years later Leo Leacock thinking he was being helpful told my mother he heard my mother said something she should not have said…in 1976 in the Fitts village arson, in the arms to south africa scandal and the arson in 1983 was just when my mother started calling call-in raqdio shows telling her story and getting involved in politics, and eventually starting her cuban business.

When we did our research into masonry in Bdos, it was often a repeated threat and a common Barbadian saying that i got a board house so i cant say anything.

I believe this is arson to sabotage the hotel, they can argue that the blog is a threat and do things like this.

  24. Adrian needs to be more proactive…contact the media ( not just the blogs)….

  25. The latest news today is the burning to death of a lady. The house/apartment where she is living suffered fired damage already. Should we jump to the conclusion of arson? Or should we say it was caused by the BLP? I say that to say this, fires are rampant during this period. It is something like a yearly ritual. Let’s stop the finger pointing my friends.

  26. To – Tell me why

Just do the math. Work out the probability…

What is the probability that a random fire would start in a random field, randomly at the junction of a mains pipe, to burn randomly hottest at that point to cause the disruption, and affect randomly the hotel of the only person tartgeted with death threats, in the area. These are 4 or 5 factors all randomly occuring together? The odds are in the millions i would presume…How many hotels in Barbados lost their water supply to fire this year etc..

I laugh when people pretend to be scientific, or objective, and proceed in all kind of presumptions…Tell me Why and the others are getting very close to being ridiculous about a simple grass fire, and i have heard these inane arguments over the years from the people who benefit from injustice, so it makes me suspicious that you are bringing in all this DLP and BLP non-sense…it doesnt take an army to light a grass fire, nor a genius to see the truth.

Last night I had a call from a senior Cable and Wireless Manager who stated that Cable and Wireless HAD provided the IP traced records to the former Attorney General and the Police.

I am at a loss to know why action has not been taken!

  28. Why are you at a loss AL?

They are all of the same cleat, clan…whatever.

Do you really think there will be an ‘investigation’ on this?

    ….doubt it!!

  29. i note that you did not publish my previous comment on this issue

was it because it was written in bajan –or
was it because it questioned the veracity of the staements you made

  30. Thanks, Gary, for the information on the arson.

Note that Canadian businessman, Nitin Ammersey of Cariscot, reported that he had caught someone trying to burn down his house in Barbados. This would have been around 1990.

Some people refuse to accept the fact that threats are being made. Why?

  33. How many hotels in Barbados lost their water supply to fire this year etc..
    ……………………………………………………………………..
Gary, I am no scientist, but a damn intelligent realist. First of all, the majority of hotels ensure that such services are underground to reduce sabotage. The electricity supply comes from the pole and runs underground to a locked power room.

By the way, since the piping which was damaged is a 2 inches, the pressure of water shooting out from the damages would have out the fire.

Gary I rest my case, your assumption do not reflect arson, it is just a Crop Season tradition.

  34. Adrain, I am so sorry to read about the recent arson at that lovely hotel of yours. Move to Guyana. I don’t blog her anymore as I am afaid of them, with the exception of Adrain Hinds and You> I blog at my Guyana blogs. I am not afraid there, but I don’t know these people, and they are not like Guyanse and they hate Guyanese, that is why I don’t blog here. But you be careful there, this sounds terrible to me. To me this would be a sign to move away. So Goodbye Barbodos, Hello Guyana

Wow Fiyah, Fiyah, Fiyah in Barbados. I lnow you will send an E-Mail to David stating I that I should not be allowed here. Well it look to me like the bad Guyana killer is now over there doing mischiveous things. Oh gosh I have to run Guyana Today show is coming on. Happy Easter.

  35. “The Terrorists Within”

    Adrian Loveridge,

This is a despicable act of cowardice, and I hope the perpetrators will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Hopefully, the inconvenience to your guests and disruption to your business is minimal.

First of all, Peach and Quiet was operating before all these new requirements were ever conceived by the BWA or the BL&P.
As I have said over and over, has anyone ever took the time to visit the place?
See for yourselves and then make more informed statement.
TMW…I have to disagree with you on this one…..’By the way, since the piping which was damaged is a 2 inches, the pressure of water shooting out from the damages would have out the fire.

When plastic is exposed to heat, it melts. Melting would not create a ‘shooting out of water’ it would collapse the pipe and the water would continue to just run. Secondly, unless you know how to make water run uphill, I really dont see how this would ‘out any fire’ because the property slopes down towards the beach, which meant the water ran away from the fire. The most water would have done would be to find the easiest and quickest way to the sea.

Like I have said …..see for yourselves before assuming. We know full well what we do when we assume…..we make an ass of u and me. 😉

  37. To Gary Cole,

was I correct then in pointing out that someone was sending a veiled threat by asking about your grandmother after you posted your piece on What Is Mottleyism.

There was never a piece on this blog that was a insightful as that one.

  38. Tell me Why // March 23, 2008 at 12:41 pm

The latest news today is the burning to death of a lady. The house/apartment where she is living suffered fired damage already. Should we jump to the conclusion of arson? Or should we say it was caused by the BLP?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We should come to the conclusion that they are some slum-lords in operation in this country and these death traps need to be investigated before more deaths like these occur.

Many of these rooms for rent situations are below unhealthy and really unfit for human existance, in addition to a lot of social unrest, and don’t fool yourself they don’t only exist in the city and ghettos and villages but they exist in the Heights and Terraces too. Check it out.

  39. The rental of rooms instead of houses is a new phenomenom created by an increasing demand for low price rentals for the working class.

This situation was created when this country was allowed to be flooded out by these unskilled, social misfits guyanese who couldnot afford to rent an entire house or apartment.

Instead they started renting a house and then subletting the house to their fellow guyanese without the landlord’s knowledge.

When this was discovered the landlord started doing the rental of rooms themselves.

Now we have a practice which seem hard to break, where good decent hardworking bajan families are now forced to compete for housing in their own country with the illegal dregs of the guyanese society.

Our country is being changed by these people and not for the better.

The crime, the prostitution, their dishonest behaviour and now the charge that barbados has been accused by the U.S senate investigatory committee of trafficking in human beings for prostitution – persons coming mainly from guyana.

What is next and where are we going ?

  40. Note the woman interviewed in the CBC piece (holding a baby) had a guyanese accent.

The other renters stayed away from being interviewd on camera.

  41. I agree with annonymous, this is ridiculous government must put things in place to avoid these mishaps. And Mr. Loveridge I am very sorry to hear about your plight. However, I dont think that anything will come out of it. I’m sorry to say that; but I believe it to be true

  42. Thanks for the concern warrior – a true name you have – but no – the guy was honestly enquiring about my grandmother, and i havent recieved any threats. It was kind and good of you to ask and i will be writing more.

Once again keep strong and good warrior.

  43. I am tired of hearing that everything that bhappens to Adrian is politically motivated. If someone run in the back of his car is that politically motivated. We are having hundred of grass fires around the island as well as a suspected arsonist in Brandons and St.James links these to a politician. I HEAR PARANOIA SETTING IN. YOU ALL PROBABLY BELIEVING IN OBEAH ALSO. I am not saying things cant happen but stop inflamming and encouraging this belief.

  44. How comes this kind of pittle is allowed to be on this blog. That wasn’ nice at all

  45. […] I explained that the police had received IP numbers from bloggers and witnesses who were willing to testify and that they had a victim in Mr. Loveridge who had already filed reports with the police. In fact, Cable and Wireless informed Adrian Loveridge that they had already provided the information about who was doing the threats to both the police and the former Attorney General.
