I saw on the Toronto CP 24 News last night, the Barbados Fire Chief accepting a donation from the Toronto Fire Service of used fire-fighter protective clothing and equipment. As a proud Barbadian who has always considered us as a leader among the Caribbean nations; could not help but think. “Is this what we have come to”?Don’t get me wrong, it is good to see the recycling of good equipment that otherwise might have just been dumped, but I could not help but feel that, have we reached the stage that we have to go with hat in hand looking for hand-me-downs to supply our fire service. Most Barbadians do not consider themselves as Third World yet why does our government let one our most important public service branches be treated as such.?

Maybe I am just a little too PROUD of our PROUD little nation.

The information was posted over at Barbados Forum. For some reason the message by the poster, who appears to be a Barbadian living in Canada, conveyed sadness. BU has interpreted the last sentence of the post which the poster highlighted in the colors of Barbados to mean that his pride as a Barbadian was dented after watching the broadcast. To be honest in the BU we feel the same way in the BU household. Barbados Fire Chief Mayers, if you have to accept the old equipment then do it away from the public glare.

 

What is the message which our leaders are sending? We spend millions on a multiplicity of project but we have to accept “hand-me-downs to supply our service.”

    it time that i speck. this is the 21st centry and de fire service in de 18th centry. now for us yes us to go forward we have to do a number of this 1st get-rid of cfo dcfo do’s and some of de S.o like collins, oneale, morris, marshall tortman. we need an admin with balls not yes men. next thing de office staff de accountant , SEO and send a warring to de rest. i carry no passengers , for gaskin that is both of u dismissed same for maynard, nurse and mayers. too the rest of sub/o’s learn the wrk and dont f-up because if u do just go home. a lot of them dont no their jobs in every area even discipline,and to de (ag) LFO like s carrington who dont nothing at all need to ride in de back.
    to 65 u butter start getting dirty this is not an office job. for de fire officers de pirvate no room for sluckers. dont run from de flames outthem and learn your job, your rights and wrongs.
    de problems with de department we have research& planning but wat do the do for the 5or 6 yrs it open the only thing i see come in was de Rescue tender wat r u doing in there researching courses for your self and friend, trainning nothing of substance, I T all maynard do is mushing up de computers, they wrk for 2 weeks and down again. fire prevention time will tell if u working effective.

Firemen,like soldiers, should strive to live as a cohesive group. One never knows when or who he/she has to called upon to get them out of a sticky situation.     @ Ceasar. Yes! We need to first remove ALL gazetted officers including the acting SOs give them an early retirement . Its a waste of time trying to a solve issues and the leaders thinking pre 1970s era. Training needs looking into Sub O Heads and Hands must go, I would put him in charge of vehicular parking at HQ. And put Sub O A riddle A giggle Gasbag in charge of the training ———tower at HQ to scare away the pigeons, All jokes aside these two sub officers are human beings and I hope that they can see that the department does not center around them and change their attitudes. Just remember in every bad there is some good.

    I am sending out a this message for persons who have irrefutable evidence and have the balls or gumption to deliver it to come forward to assist in dismantling the scorge of the diachronic wave of yardfowlism that exist in srvice.. There is clandestine pimping, stealing of monies, diesel, refrigators and other questionable short falls in managing the B.F.S business. There are numerous financial improprieties that seem not to end.We need an investigation by the ministry of Home Affairs inclusive of the Attorney General with the findings being dealt with expeditiously. No one person at any give time should have been able to remove monitors from a room with limited access without the knowledge of the administration; Who worked in this room? Who has keys? When were they reported missing and who made the report? Tranfers were made to effect change.. Was it to silence persons who may have to talk or was it to hide the criminal minded persons that has the monitors..N.B I will inform the Attorney General about my findings…This crap MUST stop…

    @ David , Thanks for the advice , I am drafting a letter of which should point my attorney general in the right direction. We need to be investigated by an auditor and the police fraud squad.

If I AM I NEED TO, WHO IS THE INDIVIDUAL THAT WAS ENTRUSTED WITH SOME MONIES TO TRAVEL OVERSEAS TO BUY EQUIPMENT FOR THE B.F.S BAND? THAT PERSON RETURNED MINUS THE MONEY..MINUS THE EQUIPMENT. Is this merely an allegation? Who has the evidence please come forward. Not forgetting the Social Club, stealing brough it to it’s knees. How long can we go on like this. Stealing seem to be a viral infection with only a few suseptable to catching it. I do not want to vituperate tpo explain why it necessary to catch thee common criminals. Lets hope no books, information of files goes missing at the start of the investigation. We will be watching and listening. Q: How do we go about it? Start by using the offices of the fraud squad as punisher alluded to with those officers having unfettered access to files, receipts , information relating to serial numbers of equipment and MOST importantly access to persons directly involved…I am appealing to the C.F.O please initiate an investigation as soon as possible..

Why on earth should I go to Great Britain and see a man and his wife in a gym with part of the BFS kit [tee shirts] and saying that they bought them from the fire station in Bridgetown. WOW ! I didnt know they were on sale ?,I would like to buy one as a souveniere . Could someone with info kindly advice me where can I get these shirts?

    Cud dear, that too. It seems that all the service is for, is thiefing. Why did these people not face prosecution from police. The one that stole the social club money aint even get questioned but you know what. No one wants to investigate the stealing because their friends are involved but the gun man “POW” gone home and The other one going too, so all that thiefing will continue. It makes you wonder if these officers will ever get held. They even thief that fellow who went to roll call phone but it will only stop when some one thief the wrong person phone. They will get their head burst trust me. The attorney general needs to investigate these things because no one says nothing. Officers feel fussy to thief, i hope they soon get catch. Let them appear in the paper let every one see them.

In the name of capitalism these people go free because of the system. A system which allows the department to be divided, A system that causes a selected few to strive while the masses at the bottom of the food chain suffer. Ladies and gentlemen , that type of behavior caused the French revolution and the Cuban revolution. The BFS is heading for a meltdown because the administration turn a blind eye at the nonsense that going on.
    Only if we had a marxist administration where training promotion and punishment would be distributed evenly. This blog would be 100 comments shorter.
