I saw on the Toronto CP 24 News last night, the Barbados Fire Chief accepting a donation from the Toronto Fire Service of used fire-fighter protective clothing and equipment. As a proud Barbadian who has always considered us as a leader among the Caribbean nations; could not help but think. “Is this what we have come to”?Don’t get me wrong, it is good to see the recycling of good equipment that otherwise might have just been dumped, but I could not help but feel that, have we reached the stage that we have to go with hat in hand looking for hand-me-downs to supply our fire service. Most Barbadians do not consider themselves as Third World yet why does our government let one our most important public service branches be treated as such.?

Maybe I am just a little too PROUD of our PROUD little nation.

The information was posted over at Barbados Forum. For some reason the message by the poster, who appears to be a Barbadian living in Canada, conveyed sadness. BU has interpreted the last sentence of the post which the poster highlighted in the colors of Barbados to mean that his pride as a Barbadian was dented after watching the broadcast. To be honest in the BU we feel the same way in the BU household. Barbados Fire Chief Mayers, if you have to accept the old equipment then do it away from the public glare.

 

What is the message which our leaders are sending? We spend millions on a multiplicity of project but we have to accept “hand-me-downs to supply our service.”

    Pharoah, I admire your spunk but i believe you and the others need to get behind that sleeping giant called the Barbados Fire Service Association and force them to get off theirs asses and get to work. It is really sad that these bastards collect our dues every month and do nothing more than attend meetings and conferences. Mr. Clarence Hinds et al please for the love of God do something. We the fire officers need real representation.

    If the Chief Fire Officer and the rest of yardfowls are getting away with murder it is because we the fire officers allow it. They are too many misdeeds and injustices being carried out in this department. We need to put pressure on the Association to function. Fire officers also have a responsibility to report their concerns so that action can be taken stop gathering in the barracks and talking. Fight for representation don’t give the Association an excuse to say they are not being informed about the injustices. There is strength in numbers, we have the power.

    Remember a few months ago,the gasbag launched a ‘no confidence motion’ against this silenced association an the vote wasnt in his favour ,what if he had launched it again I honestly don’t think that history would repeat itself. The president of the association is trying hard ,but he needs a secretary, this individual is a statue like the fire chief,he does nothing ,I do not trust him, better yet I think he is a yardfowl like the ones that I described earlier.

    I am very saddened to hear that nothing has changed at Probyn Street in recent times.

    Its 6 years since my last connection with the fire house.

    It is very sad. The fire fighters in Bim are a good lot. Most of them are great folk but there are poorly led…. and hardly respected.

    Unfortunately, most of the members at the bottom are more educated and rational than their superiors, who sit at the top because of length of service rather than by brilliance of firefighting.

    We all remember when Velmo was promoted to Chief from his longstanding desk job of pushing paper (because of his party affiliations with the BLP). The man didnt know how to out a fire of a match stick burning.

    What the fire fighters need is a serious set of inhouse studies either by distance education coupled with some relative courses at UWI and the BCC, so that they can progress through the ranks by a series of education along with tenure of service.

    The psychology of sitting around all day waiting for something not to happen, but to be ready for when something untowards happens is not easy. This must be addressed.

    All this was proposed by a certain person who worked very closely with the fire fighters then and who thought that the nations fire equipment and the lives of men should not be entrhusted to men who were under distress and duress because of thier work conditions.

    I personally could not work in the BFS under the likes of the chief officers and the ass licking NCO’s in the BFS.

    One well remember the day when the Arch Hall Station opened, and during the fire drills, a few fire officers had breathing difficulties, and though the Medical Officer assigned to the department was present he had to send the men to hospital, as there was NO equipment or supplies to treat the men. There was not even a first aid station or kit with aspirin.

    There were new fire trucks though.
    This was under Mia’s watch as AG.

    So people dont fell bad if the BFS accepted second hand firefighting equipment. Its easier for them to get a million dollar truck than $3.00 in aspirin tabs, and daily supplies of Gatorade and other rehydration fluids for use in major fires and thereafter.

    I well remember the time when a truck was damaged in Station Hill and Velmo was more worried about the truck than the men.

    One remembers Fire men week and other events held by the fire department that were never attended by the AG (under whose watch the BFS falls) or any one from the ministry.

Well within the BFS we have a training unit which looks after the well being and educational needs of the fire officers,this unit is so well structured, that despite your academic possessions and you are not in fire chief Mayers or any of his lackies good books you are doomed. Can you believe that a department with 240 plus members, seven selected members of them keep reaccuring at every course that this training unit advertise, can you believe that a junior fire officer is selected to teach senior fire officers ‘the tying of knots’ this junior fire officer is an instructor and another instructor untied this persons marital knot. This training unit suppresses individuals who are not yardfowls. The Sub. Officer in charge of the training unit who has the same last name as the chief by the way, I watched him from the time he was young in service and I said to myself that he has potential but now
    I realize that he is a fucking pimp and should not be trusted at all.the training unit is the fraud squad (contains all frauds)

    I trust that everyone had a good x’mas and I just want to wish you’ll a Happy 2008. I heard that the BFS is again show cased in the Heat Magazine, so please everybody go out and get a copy because it real hot. I have some opinions about some things that were said, so I will address them now. First about the firewoman getting lieus, yes it is wrong but we do not know the circumstances in which they were given and two, it was said that she has potential and principles, this I can not see. Where were you a couple of years back when she showed her true colors or are you one of the men that still want to screw?But what I would say is that she is trying very hard to change her image and I am proud of her for that, keep up the work , you should successed.There are very few women in the service that want to do something with themselves and if I was not married and looking for a girlfriend in there, my picks can be counted on one hand. From the beginning with me coming on this blog, I said that the Association is a waste of time, you’ll now seeing it? wanna late!. The whole Association want changing and putting new blood in there, people that want to see the service go forward, if this don’t happen soon, I am going to stop my money! so watch out.You know what the BFS need,we need to bring in a new person as CFO, somebody who has not come up in the ranks, who has a heart and cares about the FO’s.This is what the Association should be fighting for because if they don’t, hell is going to break loose soon.About medical, nobody don’t teach you nothing, when I say nothing, nothing medical.some people did a little basic thing when they recruit or so but they haven’t thought us anything after leaving recruiting.They gone and got orange first aid bags to put on trucks and they ain’t teach you how to use them or who they are for.I for one ain’t touching them cause I don’t know what to do with half the things in there.They got highly trained people in medical areas within BFS and they treat them like shit and disrespect them every chance they get! for those reading on the outside we have up to a qualified nurse, she is not my friend but she is a serious woman and don’t mix matters from what I see, so maybe this is why she not functioning because she needs to learn to kiss ass.The place is really sad!.About the seven stars, my question to the CFO is why when there is a course, the people that going on them can’t be mixed, a old guy in the service, not so old and a young?this is a common sense things.Don’t talk about the trainning unit, all I would say is that Mayers is the CFO cousin and when your party in power, you parade, so his friends will get out licking.Well I gone for now until.

    I Hope everyone had a wonderful xmas I sure did….since we are talking the truth how about the new red “eckebecky girl” who recently joined the BFS who is a home wrecker why did wifey find her way at HQ to put some licks in her ass. All the while she and the “long douse of salts for a man” she has, keep denying each other saying she used to run the canteen when they were recruiting and he discussing canteen matters with her ( a pack of nasty bitches). He feels he squeaky clean. ( He would never have my respect). And what about another female fire officer who is very short and looks like she does suck toes with her mouth imagine she does not know how to do her job properly but yet she gone working in a specialized are when the Chief Fire Officer said “no person working under two years should be working in a specialized area imagined that, anyway the female is very pushy and always claims to know everything.

    A certain loud mouth senior fire officer at AHFS. got into a squabble with a well liked junior fire officer and ever since he gone from the roaring lion to a timid church mouse. These days you can hardly hear a peep out of his mouth ( no more huffing and puffing). He does know nuff about everybody that is why his children’s mother left him after many years. She realised what a waste of time it was with the short, big guts blow hard. !!!!!

    Oh my ! I am so shocked and I really thought that all these people affiliated with training were squeaky clean . I wonder if anymore of these instructors are dirty as well? Readers, explain to me why the number three man in command pick up a new habit washing cars for the junior female fire officers to suprize them c’mom man buy them some rims or a CD player if you want sauce .I think he wait too late in life to be horny OR he may not want to feel left out , dont let the CFO barber get all the pussy for himself.

    My issue is when the police fraud squad gonna come and investigate Patricky ,he was getting away with murder for too long, I would ask him where the social club eight thousand dollars gone .I remembered when ‘shit hit de fan’ a few years ago when a fireman with an unusual surname was accused of stealing the social club money,during an ‘in house’ investigation ,too many anomilies and inconsistencies appeared . It was suspected that other individuals had to be part of this diabolical scheme , shortly afterwards the youngest fire service instructor was sent on an overseas training course, not for his natural ability but to be silenced . I know that the youngest instructor would have turned a blind eye an watch the fire service vipers destroy that youngsters job an reputation.I could never do that because it would bother me for the rest of my life ,having such info and watch an innocent man pay , that young instructor has great potential in the fire service but lost out big time on morals and ethics .

    The youngest instructor that you are talking about in my opinion is still a man of principle and morals from what I have seen. Just ease off him, what about people that were incharge of the social club, does keep bare noise and honey got a new vehicle. It is a known fact for years that patricky hand light but people still entrust him with money, now tell me why is that?this person got a new car too, so talk about that.The Association and social club want new staff bad!, that is the problem. So what are the fire officers plans for the new year, are we going with the fact that they are strength in our numbers and that we are going to make things happen or are we going to continue to sit back and be lambs. Hear recruiting planning but silent, are we going have more family coming like usual, friends and their family or are we really going to give the public a chance to get in, especially all of those people who were trying for over 10 years or more to get in the service. Think about what was said and let me hear wanna, I gone.

The youngest instructor disappointed me the same way as the mighty pharoah … He talks against the same association of which he was part of some odd months ago,being entangled with the same snakes and the same policies some odd months ago. But he joined the anti-christ regime and now singing a different tone ,how can you talk against clyde mascoll and Mr. small done the same very thing. I must give jack his jacket , he got good potential, he will get far in the department. Only if he had morals an ethics he would be the perfect fire fighter,I still maintained some form of respect for him though,he has not fully transformed into the vipers like the others as YET .I think the other two instructors that recruited with him is no good,they cannot be trusted ,they have multiple tongues. I really hope that Mr. Small come to his senses and realize that he himself doesn’t have to be a yardfowl to excel in the department,cause he is a naturalist

    Happy 2008 everybody !! ‘Looking in from the outside’ reason with me for once,dont you think that the bulk of the anger and frustration is due to this CORRUPT STYLE OF MANAGEMENT. First of all,let me note the changes that would make BFS a better workplace (1) Get a new fire chief that has academic ,ethical and moral qualities not like this poppet we got in office rite now (2) Rely on a computer program to randomly select officers for training courses,this would eliminate the wicked yardfowl nasty acts by the current training unit.Every BFS member would now have a fair chance. (3) Employ an auditor to monitor all business transactions which occur between the social club /association and outside entities,this would save the BFS embarrassment in the future by re-enlisting some of these sticky fingered fuckers as inmates in Her Majesty Prison.. Or in other words saving them from themselves (4) Give the gasbag full co-operation by promoting him in charge of training of the fire officers(not the recruits) in the training unit I think his knowledge and ability is wasted when working on the shift (he is not an apple of my eye but I giving jack his jacket,his knowledge of the job and motivational skills are at a high standard).(5) The BFS needs a PROPER criteria for promotion and standard operating procedures not just a list of rules and objectives rigged up by the ‘fraud squad’ to benefit only yardfowls ..     Not me and u Pharoah…but wait, the stupidity of your head of department must be shown up i was made to understand that he called one of the fire officers A GARBAGE BIM……(2)on the day of the tremor i was told that the head of department ran out of the fire station at probyn street note …he was the first outside then he send a fire officers back into the building to answer the telephones( note this although the telephones systems were out) then he send another officer to bring the trucks out of the bay…please tell me …..Mr A G or who is incharge of this ass as a chief fire officer does this sound like some one who has common sence.(1) he should be the last to come out of that building as chief(2)he should NEVER send no fire officer back into the building until he gets an all clear…..please send him home before a firemans family seu the govt. for his stupid ass bad leadership send him home a.s.a.p….

    I agree with you on a lot of matters. Firstly, putting gasbag in charge of trainning unit might be a good idea but also putting somebody who can help control him because we would not want to embrace victimization. Like I rightly said we need to have a system where canidates are chosen for recruiting fairly, I have been saying this for years, too much family is in here and it is not fair to the public. About the CFO, sometimes we see things happening and just say to ourselves, oh the chief wicked. When we really sit down and think about it, to me this is not true, our cfo relies on other officers for imput and their thoughts but the people who he turns to for guidance are the ones who are interested in themselves that is why the service is like this. We need a CFO from outside, maybe the government can give this person a two to three year contract just to clean up stuff within the department. This person should be a good example in terms of especially dealing with administrative and welfare matters. Auditing within the department, I totally agree with you on that. In turns of courses, you can choose fire officers, male and female in the category of young, not so young and old in terms of years in the service, not age as this should not really be a major factor. Promotions should be based on ability, qualifications and personal standards regardless of male or female. There must be a balance and consistency where promotions are concern, don’t give people rank because he is my friend etc. but because he deserves it, so that when he is promoted, people will say he is a good man, good NCO and a good person in general. Being promoted is not about you being better than somebody else but about being a good supervisor, someone you can talk to if you are having problems that can affect your work and a person who cares about his junior officers. This is a new year and we need to take action because the fire service is not a bad place to work but it is the people that are in change that is making it hard for all others and I am not only talking about firemen but about everybody who works in the department from maids up. I really hope that this year would be much better then the years gone by, that we can try to start living as one big family, care about each other and look out for each other. It breaks my heart to see what the service has come to in the past 15 years since I have been in here. Let us stop bashing one another and work together to make this service the best in government. I pray that we would be more professional and not let 2008 be like 2007. God bless.

I was planning to take it easy today but after reading ‘Anonymous and looking in from the outside’ uplifting motivating articles ,I came out to share some licks tonight. That STATUE THE FIRE CHIEF is a poor leader, wanna could believe he allowed a sub.officer to take up the funds donated by sponsors (of corporate Barbados) to aid the fire service cadet program. This Sub. Officer spent the peoples donated money on the fire prevention unit, he literally took candy away from children! ….. is this man some kleptomaniac or what? Why this man name always calling with peoples money,does money give him multiple orgasms? Was his childhood dream to grow up as an accountant or a bank robber? He starting to scare me ! Wanna gun get embarrass ,take my foolish advice .Keep him from near the peoples money . Now it i

Wanna din know that wanna dirty laundry would get expose right? Now that elections are in the air ,now is the right time to make our move and protest the nonsense that going on ,we would get the public and politicians attention . Why is it that the fire chief promise to have dialogue with our dormant association about the promotions which caused the sickout last year? I want the president of the association explain to the people about what deals he had with the chief and the permanent secretary of the ministry of home affairs unknown to us? I must say that we need to put pressure on the association because I BELIEVE THAT THE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT WAS BOUGHT AND WE WERE SOLD. The time we need to make our move is now by what ever method nessesary .

    Somebody is using my title writing in this blog so from now on I will be going by the name above. Pharoah, you need to behave yourself and tone down things a bit. This blog is not for gossip but to address geniune concerns, we are thankful for all the knowledge that we shared in here but it is time for us to make some decisions. We need to put some pressure on our association or stop our fees, we need to come together as one and plan our actions carefully. For us to be heard this must happen before the middle of the month, we can talk until the cows come home about the problems that we are having but if we do not do something about this situation, we are back at square one. Think about what I have said and let us make our move, would like to hear from the chairman of the Association on this.

    Welcome to our Fire officer friends.

    We are glad that BU is contributing to an effort by management at the Fire Service to improve relations/conditions for all. If we can make a suggestion. If they have begun to show good faith because of the situation where you have had to ‘air the dirty’linen’, maybe you guys need to respond and start to offer constructive feedback at this point. The service which you provide is tagged an essential one and it is important for national security that both sides start to move to a win-win position.

    Hope you take the feedback in the positive way in which it is meant.

    David, thank you for your comment, I think that the blog has brought a great media throughout the fire service for the fire men or women to ‘blow off some steam’. But as smoke cat said in his last contribution the positives of this same blog was evident where we had the evil forces within the department silenced . I send my apologies to those bystanders who were exposed to prove a point of the corruption within the department (not that statue the chief,I meant every word I said about him). Despite all the bashing and all the gossip that we have done in the past , I must say that The Barbados Fire Service has in its possession about 99% highly skilled workers in many fields , the missing link is the unity of all levels. The real issues within this department is the extremely high level of corruption such as the visible favoritism and victimization of the officers . The administration picked out a selected few to reward all the goodies to such as training courses, at the end of the day when the fire officers speak out the stinking fire chief , the DO that always look as though he chewing his cudd, the antichrist , that dog that has the same name as the union guy etc, make the fire officers believe that its all fair and the selected few is a cut above the rest . I think if mock anonymous was comfortable during this unrest ,then he is one of the selected few. Therefore I want you to carry this news back to your nest. We know that at the fire service training center a sub officer sent a divisional officer off the fire service premises . We know that there is a praised up kleptomaniac within service and you say that I destructive ? I am just putting you all on guard to avoid someone going to jail in the future . We know that there is also a praised up nymphomaniac in service who is a home wrecker ,I want wanna to warn him that sexual harassment is a crime . We know that wanna got a private on a pedestal who is so confident that he threatened a fellow officer stating that when he is promoted some time in the near future that fellow officer WILL be victimized,and you got the gall to call me destructive ? You gotta be sick

    Hello readers, missed me? ok save the emotions till later but elections are in the air. After elections , it is evident that a good few people are gonna catch heart attacks not only because the Owen Arthur administration may or may not lose this elections but a good few fire officers gonna get the shock of their lives when they realize that they done all their yard fowling in vein. These fire officers would do any thing for a promotion, I would really like to see the faces of these bastards when these promotions are read out, “oh my! what a sight for soar eyes” My only regrets are the two fire officers who will not be successful in this cross fire ,these are the youngest instructor and the red short one. I believe that these guys will make very good NCOs if given a chance they execute a good knowledge of the job and practice human resourses management unlike the others who threatened to victimize individuals if they are promoted. That tall dark individual is a true judas and only thinks of himself. He want to use the LF promotion as a steping stone to acheive power in his corrupt mind

    Hello people. I have noticed that this blog is like a battle field but my main purpose writting here is to educate and open the eyes of the fire officers to the light. My columns will be short and sweet, not too wordy
    I am not going to speak about the barbados fire service in my columns but of the lies we were told by the media from the time we were children. We were fooled into the thinking that the American system is squeeky clean but we were wrong. I even helped blasted a great caribbean leader in the past.
    Fidel Castro, Ralph Gonzales and Errol Walton Barrow will go down in history as the three greatest leaders the Caribbean have ever seen, they fought against the odds of the capitalist victimization and oppression . Fidel castro was branded as a terrorist but I see him as a humanitarian who fight for freedom of the poor people he stoped the South African appartied regime from invading Angola and guess what? The squeeky clean American constitution aided the racist appartied regime against the Cuban forces but they were defeated. The afro-Americans and many Caribbean people are blind and dont know their history.

    A word of advice to the anti-Christ and the fire chiefs advisors . “Why you all wont try to keep the fire chief and the number three man from going in front the media houses CAMERAS and embarrassing the fire officers . Last night ,the number three man went and destroyed ‘the queens english’. Members of the public are going to believe that all fire service members are stupid and uneducated like these mascots we put on display( CFO and #3 man) at emergency situations. The fire department has a lot of highly intelligent members like BCC and UWI graduates, but they are hiden in the shadows.

    Take my foolish advice and keep these men off my TV

    Have you read todays newspaper ? I think we should take the advice of a great leader and one of my mentors Hugo Chavez. We dont really understand him because of the garbage we were fed by the media in the past.

    America is the self proclaim ‘world policeman’ but I think they should be branded as the ‘world bully’. They say that they invaded Iraq to help the people but we all know that they wanted to steal Iraqs oil reserves. The so called ‘world policeman’ stood up and watched the tribal war within Rowanda which lead to the genocide of almost one million people. America and the UN did not intervene to HELP the people because they had nothing of which they can exploit
